Idaho (i/ˈaɪdəhoʊ/) is a state in the northwestern region of the United States. Idaho is the 14th largest, the 39th most populous, and the 7th least densely populated of the 50 United States. The state's largest city and capital is Boise. Residents are called "Idahoans". Idaho was admitted to the Union on July 3, 1890, as the 43rd state.
Idaho is a mountainous state with an area larger than that of all of New England. It borders the US states of Montana to the northeast, Wyoming to the east, Nevada and Utah to the south, and Washington and Oregon to the west. To the north, it shares a 45 mi (72 km) international border with the Canadian province of British Columbia, the shortest such land border of any state. The network of dams and locks on the Columbia River and Snake River make the city of Lewiston the farthest inland seaport on the Pacific coast of the contiguous United States.
Idaho's nickname is the "Gem State", because nearly every known type of gemstone has been found there. In addition, Idaho is one of only two places in the world where star garnets can be found in any significant quantities, the other being India. Idaho is sometimes called the "Potato State" owing to its popular and widely distributed crop. The state motto is Esto Perpetua (Latin for "Let it be forever" or "Let it endure forever").

The primary cities in this region are Lewiston and Moscow, home of the University of Idaho.
North Central Idaho consists of the following counties:
With the exception of the southern portion of Idaho County, this region observes Pacific Time.
South of the western-flowing Salmon River, Idaho observes Mountain Time, beginning at Riggins.

My buddy and I took a trip to Central Idaho to throw streamers for Cutthroat and Bull Trout in early September, 2014. We had a lot of success and even though he lost some fish according to the footage, he got the last laugh with a 25" Idaho Bull Trout. We were a little short on footage for the biggest fish we caught last because we lost both of our cameras to the river during the process.

For most people, their first views of Idaho are dry, brown, desert grasslands. Given its geographical position in the Pacific Northwest, this is a harsh contrast to their perceptions, which usually contain lush forests and green meadows. Still, "picturesque Idaho" may be closer than you think. Jaye Legate wraps up his 3-week adventure in the local area by exploring the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.

This documentary film is an oral history compilation of Ernest Hemingway's time in central Idaho. It foregrounds ten voices of his close Idaho friends and neighbors, which together recount not only a perspective of him in his later life, but a feeling of the western place to which he was drawn. Produced by Mary Tyson for The Community Library in Ketchum, Idaho, and made possible by a generous grant from the Idaho Humanities Council. Special thanks to videographer John Plummer. Produced in 2015.
March 30th 2015 -- Yellowstone Geyser Basin -- Old Faithful NPS Webcam Worthy of making note of, not worthy of panicking over. Earthquake threat = yes...... Eruption threat = no. Each time we see increased geyser activity at Yellowstone national park (supervolcano), it is normally followed shortly thereafter with seismic activity - usually swarms of earthquakes develop in Central Idaho reaching Eastward into the actual caldera of the national park following large geothermal events. As my viewers and readers know, I personally feel we're not looking at any eruption threat, rather an increased threat of a larger seismic event to occur. Either a swarm or a single larger event should occur. No one should forget the approximate 7.5M earthquake which struck near the supervolcano in 1959.. S...

Hemingway visited central Idaho regularly starting in 1939. He moved here with his wife, Mary, in 1959. This is a talk given as part of the 2016 Ernest Hemingway Festival: Hemingway in Nature.
