One of the most common ways most people fight is with the one arm lapel grab, which basically just means someone coming, grabbing you by the shirt, and punching you nonstop. Another unorthodox way is an attacker coming at you throwing wild punches randomly, with a lot of force behind them. Both manners are unexpected and happen quickly, you don't know what your attacker could be thinking or how he will react. You should be aware of everything and anything, in this case.
You should expect the unexpected in this type of situation. Question whether your attacker has backup, or if he is carrying a weapon. You have to assume the worst.
For the one arm lapel, seeing as your attacker is much larger than you, he has the upper hand in strength. When he grabs you by your shirt, you need to be aware that the arm that is there might strike you when you least expect it. So, it is best to trap it there, just to be safe.
Having blocked the arm that has grabbed you, you need to see if you can find an opportunity to block his strikes that are coming from his other hand.
Strength plays a big role here. If you try to outmuscle such a larger and bigger opponent, you might end up on the ground, with him towering over you. You want to avoid this.
Instead, your goal should be to trap his arms and hands before your attacker starts to strike you. Bringing his arm down and using all your force to keep him there could help you survive the situation.
In self-defense, size does matter, along with speed and range. However, just because you are smaller than your attacker does not mean you should let him have the upper hand and injure you to the point of death! Being smart, and applying intelligent techniques and movement can help you survive the outcome.

Alley Oop is a syndicated comic strip, created in 1932 by American cartoonist V. T. Hamlin, who wrote and drew the popular and influential strip through four decades. Hamlin introduced an engaging cast of characters, and his storylines entertained with a combination of adventure, fantasy and humor.
Alley Oop, the strip's title character, was a sturdy citizen in the prehistoric kingdom of Moo. He rode his pet dinosaur, Dinny, carried a stone war hammer and wore nothing but a fur loincloth. He would rather fight dinosaurs in the jungle than deal with his fellow countrymen in Moo's capital (and only) cave-town. In spite of these exotic settings, the stories were often satires of American suburban life.

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is a collegiate athletic conference in the United States in which its fifteen member universities compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA's) Division I, with its football teams competing in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the highest levels for athletic competition in US-based collegiate sports. The ACC sponsors competition in twenty-five sports with many of its member institutions' athletic programs held in high regard nationally. ACC teams and athletes have claimed dozens of national championships in multiple sports throughout the conference's history. Generally, the ACC's top athletes and teams in any particular sport in a given year are considered to be among the top collegiate competitors in the nation. The ACC is considered to be one of the six collegiate power conferences, all of which enjoy extensive media coverage and automatic qualifying for their football champion into the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). With the advent of the College Football Playoff in 2014, the ACC will be one of five conferences with a contractual tie-in to an "access bowl", the successors to the BCS.
Founded in 1953 in Greensboro, North Carolina, by seven universities located in the South Atlantic States, the conference added additional members in late 1953, 1979, 1991, 2004, and 2013. The 2004 and 2013 additions extended the conference's footprint into the Northeast and Midwest. The most recent expansion in 2013 saw the additions of the University of Notre Dame, the University of Pittsburgh, and Syracuse University. In 2012, the University of Maryland's Board of Regents voted to withdraw from the ACC to join the Big Ten Conference. On November 28, 2012, the ACC's Council of Presidents voted unanimously to invite the University of Louisville as a full member, replacing Maryland.

In the mid-late 1980's, China relented a little and it didn't take long for the government to realize the advantages of having the tourist dollar.
At that point, China went on a lets-get-some-of-that-tourist-dollar-over-here spree. In the bigger cities, doz

The protests were forcibly suppressed by hardline leaders who ordered the military to enforce martial law in the country's capital.[2][3] The crackdown that initiated on June 3–4 became known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre or the June 4 Massacre as troops with assault rifles and tanks inflicted casualties on unarmed civilians trying to block the military's advance towards Tiananmen Square in the heart of Beijing, which students and other demonstrators had occupied for seven weeks. The number of civilian deaths has been estimated at anywhere between hundreds and thousands.[4] The Chinese government condemned the protests as a counter-revolutionary riot, and has largely prohibited discussion and remembrance of the events.

The protests were forcibly suppressed by hardline leaders who ordered the military to enforce martial law in the country's capital. The crackdown that initiated on June 3--4 became known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre or the June 4 Massacre as troops with assault rifles and tanks inflicted thousands of casualties on unarmed civilians trying to block the military's advance on Tiananmen Square in the heart of Beijing, which student demonstrators had occupied for seven weeks. The scale of military mobilization and the resulting bloodshed were unprecedented in the history of Beijing, a city with a rich tradition of popular protests in the 20th century.
The Chinese government condemned the protests as a "counterrevolutionary riot", and has prohibited all forms of discussion or remembrance of the events since. Due to the lack of information from China, many aspects of the events remain unknown or unconfirmed. Estimates of the death toll range from several hundred to the thousands.

This segment in the Assignment:China series focuses on the coverage by American news organizations of the dramatic events in Beijing in 1989. Students marched in cities all over China, but it was the demonstrations in China's symbolic center, Tiananmen Square, that captured the attention and imagination of people worldwide and especially in the United States.
When Hu Yaobang died on April 15, students seized on the opportunity to remember him and to criticize his successors. Chinese leaders were divided on how to handle the protests that ensued. What followed was an extraordinary seven weeks where large numbers of Chinese in dozens of cities marched and demonstrated to express their grievances and to call for change. As the political center of China, most of the world's attention was focused on the protests there.
The American press corps in China had grown since the first journalists arrived with the establishment of diplomatic relations, but it was still relatively small compared to today. Covering China remained (and remains) complicated and difficult. In December 1986, for example, two television crews were detained and had their videotape confiscated as they attempted to cover student demonstrations. This segment of Assignment:China focuses on the stories of journalists who struggled to understand what was happening in Beijing that spring and to help Americans get a sense of the issues and forces at play. We hear from them about the political, cultural, physical, and technological challenges of covering the demonstrations, how they were being seen by the larger society, and the response of the party-state.
The press corps grew as the protests continued, especially as the mid-May Soviet Union-China summit meeting drew near. The upcoming meeting between Mikhail Gorbachev and his Chinese counterparts would be the first meeting between the leaders of the Communist giants in three decades. Gorbachev, of course, had made headlines worldwide with his perestroika (restructuring) and glasnost (openness) reforms.
Assignment:China "Tiananmen Square" shows how Gorbachev's arrival and his departure affected the ability of television networks to broadcast news via satellite directly from the square and how reporters used early mobile phones to report from China. But we also learn how essential less-cutting edge technology, such as bicycles, was as well.
For the participants, for the correspondents, and for audiences, an overriding question from April to June 3 was "how will this end?" For many outside China, the ending is most of what is remembered.
The documentary shows how journalists sought to make sense of the party-state's restraint and why the April 26 People's Daily labelling the unrest as "a grave political struggle facing the whole Party and the people of all nationalities" nor the declaration of martial law on May 20 did not end the protests. When the armored personnel carriers and tanks did roll and armed soldiers were sent in, several of the journalists interviewed in Assignment:China were there. We hear how they sought to document the extent of the violence and we learn the story behind the "tank man" image that has come to symbolize the demonstrations and their violent end.
We learn how journalists knew what they reported, but also how their values, expectations, or sources caused them to overemphasize some things and to miss others. And we hear from U.S. Secretary of State James Baker how the immediacy of the coverage meant that the administration needed to react in real time.
Twenty-five years have passed since students and others waved banners calling for greater freedom and official accountability in Tiananmen Square. The patriotism and optimism of the demonstrators and the violence that ended the demonstrations deeply moved people worldwide. Those seven weeks have had a profound influence on what Americans and others think about China. Assignment:China -- Tiananmen Square tells how those stories were brought to American audiences.

My Beijing guide Sam gave me a tour of Tiananmen Square, the third largest square in the world, which can hold 600,000 people. It was the site of Chairman Mao's famous speech in 1949 announcing the creation of the People's Republic of China. It was also the site of the 1989 pro-democracy protests where many civilians were killed. The Square features the Tiananmen Gate (entrance to Forbidden City), National Museum of China, Chairman Mao's Mausoleum, Great Hall of the People, and the Monument to the People's Heroes.

After 3 days of torrential downpour in Beijing, our last full day was a beautiful one and the perfect time to hit up Tiananmen Square and the Badaling section of The Great Wall! As you'll see, walking into one of the world's largest open square isn't just a quick walk and you're there. We were pushed and shoved for a good 30 minutes before we made it there. Luckily for us, we got good at the China way of lining up which is every person for themselves (throw dem bows!) At first, this was total culture shock but surprisingly by the end of our time in China we got used to it and just went with the flow. It's amazing what you can get used to. As soon as we crossed the street, the reality of where we were started to sink in. Tiananmen square is known by many for the role it played as the focal point of the 1989 student led pro democracy movement. The protests were sparked by the sudden death of the former Communist party general secretary and liberal reformer Hu Yaobang, after university students began to gather in the square en masse. The protesting lasted for 7 weeks throughout Beijing until a military crackdown on the protests was ordered by the top level leadership of the Chinese Communist Party. Shockingly, things came to a bloody conclusion when the military began firing on unarmed civilians on the night on June 3. The violence continued for another day as the PLA continued clearing protesters from in, and around the Square. The following day on June 5th, the iconography of the Tiananmen square massacre was solidified when a picture of of a lone man blocking a column of tanks leaving the sqaure was taken.
While we were in the square, cameras and armed guards watched our every move... this was made all the more chilling considering that the Chinese government continues to go to great lengths to censor this historical event from public memory. To this day Google, Youtube, twitter, facebook, etc. are all still BLOCKED... so if you would like to know more about this atrocity, we encourage you to exercise your freedom to information and get to Googling. We weren't able to give this subject it's due justice with this video, and the memory of the Tiananman square massacre needs to live on.
The wall was the perfect way to end the day and it was made all the better knowing we did it independently and saved ourselves a small fortune. There are dozens of tours, but do your homework and you can easily tackle this wonder all by yourself and take your time. At the end of the day, we spent only $22 - that's admission, transportation, and really expensive water and ice cream bought at the wall.

Three people were killed and many injured on Monday, police said, when a car ploughed into pedestrians and caught fire in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, the site of 1989 pro-democracy protests bloodily suppressed by the government.
Police said on their official microblog that the car veered off the road at the north of the square, crossed the barriers and caught fire, injuring "many" tourists and police. Three people in the car died, they said.
A Reuters witness said he saw fire engines, an ambulance and numerous police cars heading in the direction of the fire, which sent a plume of black smoke into the sky.
The main road through the square was briefly closed. Police also evacuated the square, a popular tourist attraction. The car crashed close to the main entrance of the Forbidden City, where a huge portrait of the founder of Communist China, Mao Zedong, overlooks the square.
A foreign tourist who was on the square and asked not to be identified said she heard an explosion followed by a fire. Tiananmen Square is always under heavy security due to its proximity to the Zhongnanhai compound of the central leadership and the Great Hall of the People, where the country's largely rubber stamp parliament meets.

Beijing beefs up security around Tiananmen Square ahead of the sensitive 25th anniversary of the June 4th, 1989, crackdown on student-lead protests.
Full story:
Beijing tightened security around Tiananmen Square on Tuesday (June 3), one day ahead of the 25th anniversary of the June 4th, 1989, crackdown on student-lead protests.
Dozens of riot police and police vehicles were seen parked around the square.
Activists and commentators said China's determination to snuff out any mention of the event is especially strong this year.
For the first time in recent memory, authorities have charged people for commemorating the Tiananmen crackdown privately in a home.
Early last month, 15 people went to a Beijing apartment to mark the 25th anniversary. Among them were scholars, a prominent Chinese human rights lawyer, writers and the mother of a student who was killed by soldiers.
A few days later, five were in police detention after a photograph of the gathering circulated on the Internet. They were charged with "causing a disturbance", a crime that carries a jail term of up to five years.
Beijing-based independent historian and political commentator Zhang Lifan, who did not attend the meeting, said the government's crackdown this year has been unusually harsh.
"In the past, the government handled these kinds of commemorative activities in a rather low-key way. But this year it's different. Their crackdown on these events is rather high profile. We have not seen this before," Zhang said.
Zhang said the authorities have felt threatened.
"I think this may be because the discontent within the country is intensifying, so they (officials) are worried this will create a domino effect and threaten the authorities' survival," Zhang said.
Rights group Amnesty International said 48 people had been detained, placed under house arrest, questioned by police or had gone missing ahead of the anniversary.
Police have also warned foreign reporters from visiting "sensitive places" and prevented them from interviewing people on the topic.
The anniversary comes as China grapples with challenges such as slowing economic growth, dire pollution, endemic corruption and violence in the troubled western region of Xinjiang.

"Tiananmen Square is a large city square in the center of Beijing, China, named after the Tiananmen Gate (Gate of Heavenly Peace) located to its North, separating it from the Forbidden City. Tiananmen Square is the second largest city square in the world (440,000 m² - 880m by 500m). It has great cultural significance as it was the site of several important events in Chinese history. Outside China, the square is best known in recent memory as the focal point of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, a pro-democracy movement which ended on 4 June 1989 with the declaration of martial law in Beijing by the government and the death of at least hundreds of protesters." For many years, China was 'closed' to tourists and visitors for political reasons. Very few people could get in, even fewer could get out.
In the mid-late 1980's, China relented a little and it didn't take long for the government to realize the advantages of having the tourist dollar.
At that point, China went on a lets-get-some-of-that-tourist-dollar-over-here spree. In the bigger cities, dozens of fancy hotels, restaurants, and other tourist oriented buildings began to be designed and built.
Then, something happened: The Tiananmen Square Student Protests of 1989. The government reacted harshly toward the protesters, the world heard about it and potential tourists became afraid for their safety in China so they quit going.
With the anticipated tourist trade absolutely evaporated, construction on partially finished buildings stopped and those that were completed, having no consumers, simply closed up. Furnishings, etc were put in storage where they sat.
I was fortunate to be in one of the very first groups of tourists to visit China after Tiananmen Square. This was in 1991 and because the Government was very interested in our returning home with good news about our safety and the beauty of China, we got the Royal Treatment.
Everywhere we went was first class. The big hotels we stayed in were musty from being closed but were spectacular with incredible decorations, fountains, amenities, and comfort. We enjoyed very knowledgeable, gracious guides. We traveled on special railroad cars, planes, and buses.
One of the places we visited was the Guilin (pronounced Gway-leen) area. For years, the West saw paintings of tall mountains with strange shapes and cranes flying about. Because very few had ever seen those mountains in person, most Westerners thought the paintings were figments of the artist's imagination.
Guilin was pretty much isolated then with poor roads and no railway so we rode the bus for what seemed like hours to get there. When we did get there, the town was amazingly developed, but there was no trace of tourist anticipation so amenities were somewhat lacking but there were curious locals who rushed to set up a little stand here and there to sell wonderful hand made crafts (such as exquisite lace tablecloths).
But the mountains were gorgeous! Unlike anything I'd ever seen before! We took a trip on a boat that reminded me of the African Queen. Down the Li River we chugged, passing spectacular terraced rice fields (The Longji Terraced Fields) where farmers plowed with water buffalo, past the curious fishermen who were using cormorants to catch their prey and on into the middle of the mountains. The weather was very light rain and heavy mist so, surprisingly, most of the folks traveling with me (17 in number) stayed inside to avoid getting wet.
Not I! I knew the beauty of those fantastic Karst formations had no equal in the U.S.A. and knew I'd never have the opportunity to see them again so I stayed on the deck in a state of enchanted awe.
Like everywhere else in the world, Guilin has been caught up in the tourist fever and so has grown considerably. There are dozens of hotels and restaurants now. Dozens of tour boats. When I was there, there was one boat and the ride lasted over 3 hours during which time we were fed a meal of fish so fresh that they were brought onboard by fishermen while we were underway. They were cleaned and boiled with their heads on.
I'd go back if I had someone to go with me. China is enchanting. Should you visit China, don't, whatever you do, miss Guilin. It is unlike anything you've ever seen before. The sheer beauty and wonder of it simply can not be described!

Eight triad gangsters have been arrested after allegedly attacking pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong. Police announced today that they had arrested 19 people after bloody clashes between groups of supporters yesterday, of whom a number belonged to the notorious organised crime gang.

Meanwhile, reports surfaced Friday that pro-Beijing activists were also confronting protesters at another demonstration hotspot in Causeway Bay.

Twenty-five years ago today, Chinese troops violently retook the square in Beijing where pro-democracy protesters had set up camp for weeks. The Tiananmen Square massacre left an unknown number dead, with some estimates in the thousands, and smothered a democratic movement. But after a quarter-century—and a thorough attempt by the Chinese government to conceal the events that unfolded that June—our collective memory is sometimes limited to not much more than an image of a man defiantly standing in front of a tank. We take a look back and compare the BLM standoff and how Tiananmen square influenced Americans to stand up for their rights against a tyrannical Government.

Shui-Bo Wang's feature documentary is a visual autobiography of an artist who grew up in China during the historic upheavals of the '60s, '70s and '80s. A rich collage of original artwork and family and archival photographs presents a personal perspective on the turbulent Cultural Revolution and the years that followed. For Shui-Bo Wang and others of his generation, Tiananmen Square was the central symbol of the new China -- a society to be based on equality and cooperation. This animated documentary artfully traces Shui-Bo's roots and his own life journey as he struggles to sort through ideology and arrive at truth.
