HaHa I'm just kidding with y'all, but seriously you're going to really want to watch this because I'm going to show you how I make my ultimate protein shake. This will be real short today, so pay attention for the next couple minutes and maybe grab a pen paper to write this all down. It's little tips like this one that will make it easier for you to not get bored with your everyday routine and stay on track so you can be THAT much closer to having the body of your dreams!

- What I'm making for you today is my "Chocolate, Protein, Coffee, Honey, Ice Shake!" Ya, we may have to work on that name, haha.
0:19 Mike's Muscle Building Shake - That's better!
- I used to make this every single morning.
You want to try this out for yourself? It's a good one, I promise! The whole reason I like this shake is because it tastes like chocolate-peanut butter ice cream.
- It feels like I'm cheating when I'm not. (As long as you drink it at the right time)
So grab a blender and let's get started!
Ingredients:
- Ice: 2 full red solo cups (Lots of ice!)
- Mike Chang's Muscle Protein, Chocolate: 4 full scoops (and maybe an extra half scoop)
- Peanut Butter, Creamy: 2 big globs
haha, check out what a "glob" looks like here - 2:19
- Honey: 2 swirls
Ok, and check out my "swirl" here - 2:42
- Instant Coffee: 1 Tablespoon or so (depending how much of a kick you want)
You can use regular coffee grounds, but it won't dissolve and it'll be all in your teeth, it's whatever you have on hand or prefer.
- Water: a splash
This is what gives it that ice cream texture, check out how little water I use here - 3:37
Close it all up and give it a go! As you can tell I just eyeball all the measurements here, it's really all about the taste you prefer. Just don't go overboard with any unnecessary sugar (from the honey) or fats (from the peanut butter).
4:33 And when it's done, you just pour it into your cup!
- You may need to add more water as you blend if it looks to dry to blend properly.
- This way it is so thick like an awesome frozen yogurt or some type of dessert.
The recipe I've given here is good for two servings, so share with your workout partner or save the other half for later. A protein shake made this way is best as either a post-workout or a meal replacement.

You want to try this out for yourself? It's a good one, I promise! The whole reason I like this shake is because it tastes like chocolate-peanut butter ice cream.
- It feels like I'm cheating when I'm not. (As long as you drink it at the right time)
So grab a blender and let's get started!
Ingredients:
- Ice: 2 full red solo cups (Lots of ice!)
- Mike Chang's Muscle Protein, Chocolate: 4 full scoops (and maybe an extra half scoop)
- Peanut Butter, Creamy: 2 big globs

- Honey: 2 swirls
Ok, and check out my "swirl" here - 2:42
- Instant Coffee: 1 Tablespoon or so (depending how much of a kick you want)
You can use regular coffee grounds, but it won't dissolve and it'll be all in your teeth, it's whatever you have on hand or prefer.
- Water: a splash
This is what gives it that ice cream texture, check out how little water I use here - 3:37
Close it all up and give it a go! As you can tell I just eyeball all the measurements here, it's really all about the taste you prefer. Just don't go overboard with any unnecessary sugar (from the honey) or fats (from the peanut butter).
4:33 And when it's done, you just pour it into your cup!
- You may need to add more water as you blend if it looks to dry to blend properly.
- This way it is so thick like an awesome frozen yogurt or some type of dessert.
The recipe I've given here is good for two servings, so share with your workout partner or save the other half for later. A protein shake made this way is best as either a post-workout or a meal replacement.

In today’s video, I’m going to go over how much protein you should consume in a day. Protein is essential for building muscle, burning fat, supporting organs, supporting thyroid and adrenal glands, and helping your overall health.
If you’re trying to heal and regenerate your body, then I would recommend consuming 50% of your body weight in grams of protein a day. If you weigh 160 pounds then I would recommend 80 grams of protein a day in your diet.
If you’re trying to burn fat, then I would recommend 75% of your body weight in protein in grams a day because you’re going to replace extra carbohydrates in your diet and consume more protein to burn more fat. If you weigh 160 pounds, then you would consume 100-120 grams of protein a day.
If you’re trying to build muscle, then I would recommend consuming 100% of your body weight in protein in grams a day. If you weigh 160 pounds, then you should be consuming 160 grams of protein a day.
Depending on what your goal is for your body, you will want to modify your protein intake in your diet.

One of the longest standing protein myths you'll hear in gyms across the world every day is, your body can only digest 30 grams of protein in a single meal. People that say this will tell you that eating anything more than 30 grams will cause your body to either waste it, or worse, the excess protein will damage your kidneys. Not true.
In this video, I cover the biggest myth about protein and tell you how much more protein you can absorb at a single sitting. Too many bodybuilders limit their intake of protein for fear of something bad happening to them by going over the dreaded 30 gram limit. Hopefully, this will help to put nutrition science back in control and get you thinking differently if you were one of them.
Protein is needed to build muscle. It's role in protein synthesis and the creation of new muscle is not argued. That said, the correct amount of protein needed to build muscle is debated. What is the daily grams of protein needed? How much protein is needed to be anabolic? Does protein absorption change the type of proteins that you should be ingesting?
These are all common questions, most often sparked by the confusion surrounding the way that our bodies handle the amount of protein that they are delivered through our diets.
The biggest differentiation that must be made is the difference between absorption and utilization. Almost every single gram of protein you take in will be absorbed by the body. Whether you utilize that to build new muscle is a much different story. I discuss the differences between the two and what you should be focusing on most.

High protein Chicken and Beetroot Risotto
Fabulous risottos are so easy to make in your Thermomix ® and this one is very tasty. Sports nutrition expert Nigel Mitchell’s combination of lots of protein (chicken, cream cheese, parmesan) and three grains ups the nutritional impact as well as adding different textures – the rice is al dente, the quinoa soft, and the pearl barley is delightfully a little chewy. Serves 6.
100 g parmesan, cut in 2 cm pieces
40 g coconut oil or olive oil
135 g red onions, halved and sliced in half rings
135 g beetroot, cut in bite-size pieces
135 g leeks, cut in bite-size pieces
400 g chicken breast fillets, cut in 4 cm pieces
25 g garlic, cut in slivers
100 g pearl barley
100 g risotto rice
100 g quinoa
20 g homemade vegetable stock paste or 1 vegetable stock cube (for 1 litre)
1000 g freshly boiled water
½ tsp fine sea salt or pink Himalayan salt
180 g cream cheese
50 g fresh rocket leaves (arugula)
1. Using the built-in Thermomix ® weighing scales, place parmesan in mixing bowl then grate 10 sec/speed 10. Transfer to a small bowl and set aside.
2. Weigh coconut oil, onion half rings, beetroot, leeks, chicken and garlic into mixing bowl and cook 10 min/100°C/reverse/speed spoon.
3. Add barley, risotto rice, quinoa, stock paste and freshly boiled water. Stir with spatula then cook 15 min/100°C/reverse/speed spoon.
4. Add salt, cream cheese and half the reserved grated parmesan. Stir in with spatula then cook 5 min/100°C/reverse/speed spoon. Transfer to a large serving dish, sprinkle with rocket and remaining grated parmesan and serve.
Tips
Recipes for homemade stock paste can be found in The Basic Cookbook.
Chicken stock paste can be used if preferred.
For a delicious vegetarian risotto, replace the chicken with an extra 400 g vegetables, cut in bite-size pieces, e.g. carrots, turnips, butternut squash, leeks and beetroot.

Ce produit est une whey concentrée spécialement conçu pour les filles. En effet, au niveau de la composition, Fitness Boutique a fait attention à bien doser les macro nutriments, à savoir :
- 70% de Protéines : dans la moyenne basse
-10,3% de Glucides : dans la moyenne
- 3,2% de Lipides : beaucoup mieux que la moyenne car très peu de lipides pour une whey protéine
Ensuite, au niveau des protéines, on retrouve de la whey concentrée, de la caséine et de la whey isolat. C'est intéressant de mélanger ces types de protéines mais ici, on trouve dommage de ne pas connaître le détail de chaque ingrédient. L'avantage est qu'on pourra utiliser ce produit en post training ou en collation.
Enfin, 2 derniers points positifs avec un produit qui est sans OGM ni Gluten.

En terme de certification et de qualité des produits, ce produit Delicious Protein est vraiment au-dessus de la moyenne.
En effet, on note que pour le process de fabrication, il est certifié ISO 22 000, FSSC 22 000, HACCP et cGMP. Difficile de faire mieux !
Ensuite, au niveau de la qualité des produits, 2 tests sont réalisés
- conformité à l'étiquette (ce qui est dans le pot correspond bien à ce qui est écrit sur l'étiquette)
- micro-biologie (absence de contamination bactérienne)
De plus, les lots sont régulièrement testés ce qui est un gage de qualité supplémentaire.
Pas de test anti-dopage réalisé mais le test de conformité permet de s'en passer.

Au niveau du mélange, il est parfait : pas de mousse ni de grumeaux.
Pour le goût, nos 2 testeurs ont vraiment adoré, même après plusieurs jours d'utilisation, Mélanie ne s'en n'est pas lassé.

C'est toujours difficile de sentir les effets directs d'une whey protéine mais ici, Mélanie n'avait pas l'habitude de prendre de la whey protéine. Elle a pu voir qu'avec ce produit, elle a eu l'impression de mieux récupérer de ses séances de sport et d'avoir moins de courbature.
Point positif également, pas de problème de digestion.

Ce produit est une whey concentrée spécialement conçu pour les filles. En effet, au niveau de la composition, Fitness Boutique a fait attention à bien doser les macro nutriments, à savoir :
- 70% de Protéines : dans la moyenne basse
-10,3% de Glucides : dans la moyenne
- 3,2% de Lipides : beaucoup mieux que la moyenne car très peu de lipides pour une whey protéine
Ensuite, au niveau des protéines, on retrouve de la whey concentrée, de la caséine et de la whey isolat. C'est intéressant de mélanger ces types de protéines mais ici, on trouve dommage de ne pas connaître le détail de chaque ingrédient. L'avantage est qu'on pourra utiliser ce produit en post training ou en collation.
Enfin, 2 derniers points positifs avec un produit qui est sans OGM ni Gluten.

=== QUALITE / NORMES FABRICATION ========================
En terme de certification et de qualité des produits, ce produit Delicious Protein est vraiment au-dessus de la moyenne.
En effet, on note que pour le process de fabrication, il est certifié ISO 22 000, FSSC 22 000, HACCP et cGMP. Difficile de faire mieux !
Ensuite, au niveau de la qualité des produits, 2 tests sont réalisés
- conformité à l'étiquette (ce qui est dans le pot correspond bien à ce qui est écrit sur l'étiquette)
- micro-biologie (absence de contamination bactérienne)
De plus, les lots sont régulièrement testés ce qui est un gage de qualité supplémentaire.
Pas de test anti-dopage réalisé mais le test de conformité permet de s'en passer.

Au niveau du mélange, il est parfait : pas de mousse ni de grumeaux.
Pour le goût, nos 2 testeurs ont vraiment adoré, même après plusieurs jours d'utilisation, Mélanie ne s'en n'est pas lassé.

=== EFFETS ==============================================
C'est toujours difficile de sentir les effets directs d'une whey protéine mais ici, Mélanie n'avait pas l'habitude de prendre de la whey protéine. Elle a pu voir qu'avec ce produit, elle a eu l'impression de mieux récupérer de ses séances de sport et d'avoir moins de courbature.
Point positif également, pas de problème de digestion.

Protein Structure II
1.The sequence of amino acids in a protein is ultimately responsible for all of the properties a protein has. The sequence of amino acids of a protein is referred to as its primary structure.
2. Peptide bonds form resonance structures such that the bond itself behaves like a double bond. Double bonds cannot rotate (unlike single bonds) and thus they define a plane. Alpha carbons on either side of a peptide bond are generally arranged in a trans configuration (about 10,000 trans to one cis), except when proline is involved. Peptide bonds involving proline favor the trans by about a 100 to 1 ratio.
3. The bonds around the alpha carbon (the carbon bonded to both an amino group and a carboxy group) can both rotate, however, because they are single bonds. One can thus describe a polypeptide as a series of planes separated by an alpha carbon, with the planes each being rotated a certain number of degrees relative to the alpha carbon. If we think of the alpha carbon as being in between two planes, then the plane on the left can rotate (theoretically) 360 degrees and the plane on the right can also theoretically rotate 360 degrees. These angles of rotation of planes are referred to as phi and psi angles. Phi refers to the rotational angle around the single bond between the alpha amino group and the alpha carbon. Psi refers to the rotational angle around the single bond between the alpha carbon and the alpha carboxyl group.
4. Ramachandran, recognized that not all rotations of phi and psi would be theoretically feasible because steric hindrance would preclude some rotational positions. He plotted theoretical rotations of psi versus phi and calculated which of these angles would provide stable structures. The regions of stability turn out to be regions of known stability from protein structures that have been determined.
5. The secondary structure of a polypeptide refers to regular/repeating structure(s) arising from interactions between amino acids that are relatively close together in primary sequence. This means less than 10 amino acids away.
6. One protein secondary structure that is stable in both real proteins and theoretical ones (Ramachandran plots) is the alpha helix. Alpha helices are one type of secondary structure and form coils.
7. Hydrogen bonds are primary forces stabilizing secondary structures. In alpha helices, carbonyl oxygen from a peptide bond forms a hydrogen bond with an amine nitrogen of another peptide bond four amino acids distant.
8. Certain amino acids with simple side chains, such as alanine, are very favorable for formation of alpha helices, whereas bulky (tryptophan) or cyclic (proline) amino acids tend to disrupt alpha helices. .
9. Another type of common secondary structure commonly found in protein is the beta strand (note that the term beta sheet refers to layering together of beta strands together), which consists of amino acid backbones in a V shape (like the pleats of a drape). A beta strand can be thought of as a helix in two dimensions.
10. Beta sheets arise from arrangement of beta strands. These arise from interactions (hydrogen bonds) between beta strands (parallel or antiparallel), such that the carbonyl oxygen of one side interacts with the amine hydrogen with the other.
11. Essential features of proteins that are essential for their overall structure are turns. Turns interrupt secondary structure (alpha helices and beta strands) and often involve proline and glycine residues.
12. Another type of fibrous protein is collagen, the most abundant protein in your body. It contains three intertwined helices comprised of abundant repeating units of glycine, proline, and hydroxylproline
13. Hydroxylation of proline is a post-translational modification (occurs after the protein is made) and the hydroxyls are placed there in a reaction that uses vitamin C.
14. The hydroxyls of hydroxyproline can react with other, forming covalent cross-links that make the collagen fibers more sturdy.

Protein folding is the process by which a protein structure assumes its functional shape or conformation. It is the physical process by which a polypeptide folds into its characteristic and functional three-dimensional structure from random coil.[1] Each protein exists as an unfolded polypeptide or random coil when translated from a sequence of mRNA to a linear chain of amino acids. This polypeptide lacks any developed three-dimensional structure (the left hand side of the neighboring figure). Amino acids interact with each other to produce a well-defined three-dimensional structure, the folded protein (the right hand side of the figure), known as the native state. The resulting three-dimensional structure is determined by the amino acid sequence (Anfinsen's dogma).[2]
The correct three-dimensional structure is essential to function, although some parts of functional proteins may remain unfolded.[3] Failure to fold into native structure produces inactive proteins that are usually toxic. Several neurodegenerative and other diseases are believed to result from the accumulation of amyloid fibrils formed by misfolded proteins.[4] Many allergies are caused by the folding of the proteins, for the immune system does not produce antibodies for certain protein structures.[5] Source of the article published in description is Wikipedia. Baker begins his talk by describing two reciprocal research problems. The first is how to predict the 3 dimensional structure of a protein from a specific amino acid sequence, while the second is how to determine the amino acid sequence that will generate a new protein designed to have a specific structure. Baker’s lab is addressing the second of these challenges by developing computer programs (such as Rosetta@Home) that calculate the lowest energy, or most likely, structures for differently folded amino acid sequences. Baker explains how his lab can design a new protein structure, not found in nature, and using the computer programs they have developed, determine the amino acid structure. It is then possible to back translate to the DNA sequence and synthesize the gene that can then by used to make the protein. When the structures of these synthesized proteins are determined by crystallography and compared to the predicted structures of the designed proteins, they are found to overlap very closely demonstrating that the protein design algorithms work well.
In the second of his talks, Baker tells us how his lab has moved beyond designing new protein structures to designing new protein functions. The first example he describes is the development of an inhibitor of the influenza virus. Baker’s lab designed a protein structure that fits into a highly conserved region of the hemagglutinin protein found on the surface of influenza. Preliminary lab data suggests that this designed protein protects mice from infection with the flu virus. Baker also describes experiments in which proteins were designed to fit together and build multicomponent materials such as nanocages, nanolayers and nanowires.
Speaker Bio:
David Baker received a BA in Biology from Harvard University and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. Currently, Baker is the Head of the Institute for Protein Design and a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Washington, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator. His research utilizes both experimental and computational methods to study the design of protein structures, and the mechanisms of protein folding, protein-protein and protein-small molecule interactions.
Baker’s lab developed the crowd-sourced protein folding design programs Rosetta@home and Foldit. Learn more about these programs in Baker’s iBioMagazine talk and at his lab webpage http://www.bakerlab.org/static/ .
Baker has won numerous awards for his work including the Raymond and Beverly Sackler International Prize in Biophysics in 2008. Baker is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Sciences.
