Since the sad passing of Mick Karn earlier this year, I've rediscovered Japan and have spent a lot of time listening to their very varied output. From Glam Rock to Art Rock via Disco, Jazz and Avantgarde, I doubt any other act has encompassed so many genres and managed to build a fan base and then hold it together. The two Moroder'esque disco singles are featured in this post, and no matter how many times Hansa or Virgin released them, they were never hugely successful. It's strange that it took one of their most inaccessible of tracks,
Ghosts to get them a top five hit. Anyway, these are two fantastic singles and deserve to be listened to again and enjoyed with fresh ears. Those wonderful chaps at
Burning Shed have been reissuing some of the Japan back catelogue on heavy vinyl.
