Another corruption scandal was brewing in Kenya.... so this is how the County Government of Nairobi may have lost control of its wallet to lawyers in payment of legal fees amounting to billions of shillings.
A report by a Taskforce commissioned in 2013 by Governor Evans Kidero shows inflated legal fee notes, that did not correspond with the work done, payments for services not given at all…. and in some cases no records of how billions of shillings were paid out, to whom, and what for.
According to the findings, the damage to the County’s pocket in payments to lawyers was more than 5 billion shillings and as Sheila Sendeyo reported, the county could have lost close to 5 billion shillings.

A former director with the Cooper Motors Corporation, businessman Joel Kibe was on Monday night arrested after a Land Rover he was driving rammed onto a security barrier and killed a guard on duty in Runda, Nairobi. According to NTSA officials Kibe was drunk at the wheel when he lost control of the car leading to the accident.
Nairobi Traffic Commandant, Edward Mwamburi told NTV on phone that Joel Kibe will be taken to court to tomorrow to answer charges leveled against him.
However, the case has its fair share of intrigues, with the vehicle involved in the accident having been towed away in suspect circumstances reminiscent of the Pastor Ng'ang'a debacle.

Travel video about destination Nairobi in Kenya.
Nairobi is Kenya's busy, expensive yet dangerous capital city. It is also both fascinating and modern. Nairobi is the country's most important and beautiful city and with the finest temperate climate between Johannesburg and Cairo, is located at an altitude of almost 1,700 metres above sea level.
The government district of City Square contains the Conference Centre and the Kanu Tower, the headquarters of government and the city's tallest building.
Canons guard the main entrance to the National Museum that is situated on Museum Hill, a fascinating building that covers much of Kenya's culture and history. The museum provides an interesting insight into Pre-history as well as to various cultures and the country's flora and fauna.
Directly in front of the city gates is the Nairobi National Park, the oldest of all Kenya's nature parks. Groups of ostriches can be seen bathing in the hot sand. A number of springboks stroll around elegantly between scattered rocks and trees that have been uprooted by elephants close to the city's skyline.
Nairobi is a metropolis in the 'Realm of The Golden Sun' and is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

Travel video about destination Amboseli in Kenya.
A four hour drive from Nairobi leads to Kenya’s most popular national park, Amboseli. The name of this three hundred and ninety two square kilometre nature reserve is derived from an old dried up lake formerly, Lake Amboseli. The Amboseli National Park contains a large variety of Africa’s wildlife which is due to the many habitats offered by the region’s terrain. The vegetation is also as diverse as the landscape that mainly comprises shrubs and savannah-like natural cover with the occasional acacia tree. Up to a thousand elephants have been counted within the boundaries of this wildlife reserve. They are very tender and caring creatures despite the fact that the adult bull can only enter the herd of the female-led herd during the breeding season. Thanks to exceptional reservations such as the Amboseli National Park the majestic African elephant is still able to flourish and enjoy its freedom in a completely natural environment.

In this film Wild Frontiers, Jonny Bealby, explains about tourism in Kenya. Here is the text...
Jonny here, right now I am at Borana Ranch, high on the Laikipia Plateau, in the lee of Mount Kenya. And in this short film I am going to talk about tourism in Kenya.
If I asked what's the first thing you think about when turning your mind to travel in this colourful East African country, you'd almost certainly say wildlife. And of course you'd be right as over 80 percent of holidays here will have a wildlife element.
From the Marsabit National Park in the north, to the Masai Mara and Amboseli National Parks in the south, the planes of Kenya are teeming with wildlife or all shapes and sizes offering, along with its neighbour Tanzania, the best place in the world to view game. And if you throw in Mount Kenya and the Aberdares, the Laikipia Plateau and the Matthews Range, the Lamu Archipelago and the rest of the Kenyan coast, and some of the most spectacular and evocative accommodation anywhere on earth, then here in Kenya you have a true world class travel experience.
The Masai Mara is probably the most famous national park. Covering more than 500sqm, the Mara is universally renowned for its exceptional populations of lion, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo and giraffe and for the famous migration of wildebeest that takes place every year from July to October.
But the Masai Mara is by no means the only show in town. Further to the east you have Amboseli National Park with its epic views of Kilimanjaro, to the north you have Samburu, Marsabit and Meru National Parks, and here on Laikipia, in the Lewa conservancy, where the savannah is awash with elephants, giraffe, the quirky Grevy zebra and a new and burgeoning population of black rhino.
And as for the accommodation, well that is quite simply out of this world. Yes, to get the best you're going to pay, but in our opinion the experience you'll enjoy and quality of service you'll receive -- plus of course the game you'll see -- does make this value for money. There is simply nothing else like it on earth. Among many amazing places to stay, my personal favourites are Else's Kopje in Meru, Saruni in Samburu, Richard's Camp or Serian in the Mara, and either Sabuk or Borana here on the Laikipia Plateau.
But tourism in Kenya is not only about wild animals. The Kenyan Coast, stretching all the way from Diani Beach in the south the Lamu archipelago in the north, with its white sand beaches and gentle turquoise seas -- particularly when the trade winds are blowing in the right direction from November through to March -- again coupled with some fabulous accommodation, combine to make this a truly world class beach experience.
And if you like to meet the people -- an important factor in most Wild Frontiers adventures -- there are plenty of opportunities, particularly at Sarara, in the Matthews Range, at Il Ngwesi north or Mount Kenya and here at Borana.
To get around there is are great quality land cruisers, a brilliant air service, either in scheduled flights or on private charters, a classic bi-plane, or if you really want to push the boat out and get to places few others can reach, a truly amazing helicopter service, run by our friends at Tropic Air.
A classic African safari is a travel experience like no other, and one that all travellers should do at least once in their lives. And for that, in my opinion, there's nowhere better than Kenya.

Travel video about destination East Africa.
East Africa is one of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes in the world and its magnificent wilderness and fascinating wildlife is one of the few remaining unspoiled regions on earth. Lake Naivasha is the ideal habitat for both the rare Fish Eagle and African Eagle, thus it is a perfect location from which to observe these fascinating birds. Due to its rich variety of wildlife and the spectacular beauty of its landscape Kenya is one of Africa’s most popular safari destinations. The Massai Mara National Park is located around six hours from Nairobi and is one of the country’s most extraordinary game reserves. Its name indicates the presence of one of Africa’s most colourful tribes, the Massai. The Amboseli National Park also contains many of East Africa’s most important landscapes and represents the magnificence of the African flora and fauna that grows in this relatively small, protected area. The local wildlife stays at a safe distance from the geysers of Lake Bogoria as the steaming hot springs can prove fatal for the flamingos and other water birds that live there. Nevertheless, quite often the bones of dead animals can be seen close to the geysers as some venture too close and are killed by the hot steam. At an altitude of nearly six thousand metres, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent. For most of the time its summit is covered by a dense ring of cloud that gives the mountain an air of mystique. There are few other places on earth that offer the huge variety of nature as does the legendary east of the African continent. A magical destination and a wild natural paradise that is second to none!

Two explosions rocked Nairobi's open-air Gikomba market, about 2km east of the city's central business district on Friday, the National Disaster Operation Centre said. At least 10 people are reported to have died.
One improvised explosive device, or possibly, a grenade, detonated inside a 14-seater public minivan. A second explosion occurred within the crowded market itself.
The Kenyan Red Cross said five of its ambulances were dispatched to ferry injured people to hospitals. A spokesman for Kenyatta National Hospital, the city's main hospital, said more than 70 people had been admitted for treatment.
Reuters reports: "There was no immediate claim of responsibility. In the past such attacks have been widely blamed on the Somali Islamist militant group al Shabaab, which wants Kenyan troops out of Somalia and in September killed 67 people in an attack on a Nairobi shopping mall."
"The blasts came shortly after Kenya rebuked Britain, the United States, France and Australia for issuing travel warnings about the country and hundreds of tourists began leaving resorts along the Indian Ocean coast," the report continued.

Travel video about destination Bahamas.
Nassau is the capital of the island of New Providence which is one of the many islands of the Bahaman archipelago that extends for almost a thousand kilometres between Cuba and Florida in the Atlantic Ocean. New Providence is the commercial and political centre and is more commonly known as the Bahamas.Built between 1805 and 1813 in typical American southern style, the pink-coloured buildings of Parliament Square are the headquarters of the Bahamian government. In front of the white columned Neo-Classical parliament building is a noble statue of the English queen, Victoria, as a young girl. The colourful Caribbean Straw Market is a lively place. There are lots of fascinating things to see including skilful craftsmen who carve traditional objects from mahogany. Bags, baskets and hats made of straw are offered as souvenirs. Along the coast there are several caves in which pirates once hid their ill-gotten gains or argued over buried treasure. Cable Beach boasts a multitude of exquisite modern hotel complexes that cater for every need and several of them possess a casino. Naturally, each has its own lavish bathing areas and a vast choice of exciting entertainment. On a small hill on the western outskirts of Nassau is Fort Charlotte, today a popular tourist destination on the periphery of the city The Bahamas: the very name conjures up remote sandy beaches and turquoise blue water, romantic sunsets and tropical nights. A place where fantastic dreams become wonderful reality.

Travel video about destination Honolulu in the Unites States of America.
Honolulu Airport is world famous for the novel way in which it welcomes its visitors. A sweetly scented floral chain is placed around the neck of all those who arrive and the friendly smiles of the local people are irresistible. Normal routine is cast aside and dreams become reality.
The Hawaiian Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean and make up the 50th state of the United States of America. The island of Oahu is situated in the centre of the archipelago. The modern city of Honolulu is the capital of both Oahu and all the other islands. It is also the starting point of numerous excursions.
King David Kalakaua had the Iolani Palace built, a magnificent Victorian structure situated in the centre of Honolulu and the only royal palace in the USA.
The Nu'uanu Pali Valley is of great importance in Hawaiian history. It was there that a decisive battle took place when King Kamehameh arrived from Maui and triumphantly drove the troops of the O´ahu chief into the mountains, a battle that gave rise to the political union of the Hawaiian Islands.
Close to Honolulu, Pearl Harbor was the scene of a major military tragedy. During an unexpected attack, practically the whole of the American Pacific fleet was bombed by the Japanese and destroyed. The attack on the U.S. naval base was the ultimate reason that the United States eventually took part in the Second World War.
In winter, the most dedicated surfers collect on Sunset Beach to experience the world's most sought-after waves, some of which are as high as the tallest church steeples. Between Kawela Bay and Haleiwa, each winter the best surfers in the world meet for the Surfing World Championships.
'Aloha!' is Hawaii's magical word. It means 'Welcome', 'Good-Bye' and also 'Love'. Life is so simple in paradise!

Travel video about destination Vancouver in Canada.
Vancouver is the third largest city in Canada and one of the most beautiful on the American continent, a dynamic metropolis set in a beautiful location with a temperate climate throughout the year.
Close to the harbor area, the city's skyscrapers have proliferated in recent years. The capital of the southwestern province of British Columbia has developed into an economic centre of renown.
The city's oldest buildings were built less than 100 years ago because the former wooden houses of old Vancouver were destroyed by fire. Several buildings reflect the origin of their inhabitants and are similar to those in the United States and Europe.
Inspired by the Colosseum in Rome, an elegant structure of pink stone and glass, Canada Place, is located in the busy centre of the new harbor district and is also the city's most recent landmark. Close by is Harbor Centre, a modern skyscraper complex with a shopping centre and a Skylift to the top floor. A glass elevator transports visitors to a 167-metre high observation platform where the view across the city, harbor and bay is overwhelming.
The exciting Skytrain is the city's most popular means of transport, an ultra-modern train built on posts that zig zags its way through the city. Each of the city's most important destinations are easily accessible and it has reduced the city's traffic problems considerably.
For the World Exhibition of 1986, on the edge of Chinatown, gardeners and craftsmen from Suzhou, China established Canada's first classical Chinese garden, the Doctor Sun Yat Sen Garden. Its ponds, bridges and small pavilions are similar to those in China, masterpieces of Far Eastern garden design.
Everything in Vancouver is youthful, attractive and dynamic, a place in which Canadian politeness unites with the Pacific way of life!

Travel video about destination Budapest in Hungary.
Budapest, capital of Hungary, is the pearl of the Danube and a constantly changing metropolis. Hungary was once a kingdom but then came the Turks, who were followed by the Habsburgs and Maria Theresia who became 'Queen of Hungary'.
The historic centre of Budapest is dominated by its noble castle that towers above the banks of the Danube. A 100 metre long cable railway that dates back to 1870 is both a practical and fascinating way to ascend the hill to the castle. Each day, the area around the castle, the Fischerbastel, that has never played a military role, attracts large numbers of tourists.
Margareten Island is set amid the Danube and is Budapest's vast entertainment area. It was at its most colorful during the Romantic period of the 18th and 19th centuries when it was a meeting place for poets, philosophers and artists. A small hotel was built for its creative community and it became an island of artists and dreamers.
In the area of the city called Pest, there is a splendid building with a mighty cupola, The Parliament, the city's main landmark and an important part of Hungary's historic past. In 1867, Buda and Pest were acknowledged by the Emperor as the seat of the Hungarian government with its own parliament. The building resembles London's Houses of Parliament.
Hungary is a fusion of two different cultural regions as indicated by its architecture and lifestyle and it is very much where the order of the Occident unites with the calmness of the Orient.

Kenya, with its numerous natural wonders gives a tourist the joy of a seaside holiday and the thrills of a safari. One can sit in the shade of a palm tree and swim in the emerald green water of the Indian Ocean, which runs out to the white, sandy beaches. We can take a look at Mombasa, most important port of Eastern Africa, the city of the Tusk Gate and the Jesus Fort. How about a typical African safari to Tsavo? Naturally, in the meantime we can meet elephants, lions, giraffes and dolphins. We can marvel at the 13th century city of Gedi. We can take a boat trip among the coral reefs of the sea national parks, or be amazed by the war dance of the Masai people, and can have a dinner at a coral cave.

Travel video about destination Mumbai in India.
Formerly known as Bombay, Mumbai is one of the largest cities in the world with a population of around 17 million. It was constructed on a headland that extends for 22 kilometres into the Arabian Sea.
In 1853, Mumbai had its first railroad and the Indian rail network was soon extended. The Victoria Terminus was built and is one of the most impressive train stations in the world. The lavishly decorated brown sandstone building dates back to1888 and is the most beautiful Victorian Gothic building in India, built during the high season of British colonial rule.
The Dhobi Ghats or 'Banks of the Washers', is the name of the 'Biggest laundrette in the world'. In the open air, hundreds of dhobis do much of the city's 'laundry'. In small allotments surrounded by low walls, launderers wash from dusk to dawn.
On Malabar Hill, between the villas of numerous film stars and luxury apartments, is the fascinating Adishwarji Jain Temple, a good place in which to gain an insight into the harsh rituals of the wealthy faithful who worshipped the first Jain saints. The legendary Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, with its striking façade and red cupolas, had a spectacular origin.
When industrial mogul, Tata, was refused entry to a British hotel restaurant by a sign that stated, FOR EUROPEANS ONLY, he decided to build the city's finest hotel.
Nowhere else are India's many remarkable contrasts so obvious and nowhere else can India be experienced so intensely as in Mumbai, mega metropolis and unique Gateway to India!

With a population of around 3 million, Nairobi is one of the largest cities in Africa. However the metropolis is surrounded by wilderness which extends into the city itself. Just a few metres from the airport lies the Nairobi national park, with its vast savannah and mysterious inhabitants. Beside the motorway, lions, hyenas, giraffes and rhinoceros wander through grassland, separated only by a wire fence, while in the city centre hundreds of marabous breed in the tree lined streets. Hordes of apes terrorise people walking in the city's parks and crocodiles and hippos swim in the reservoirs of the city's sewerage treatment plant. This is a journey of discovery through a city full of contradictions and teeming with nature, technology and wildness, in which humans and animals live together as neighbours.

The Nairobi Conference of the World Trade Organization was recently concluded. Though the Nairobi Package was lauded as a “historic agreement”, there has been mixed reactions about the final outcome, especially from the developing nations.
WTO and the negotiations on agriculture has become a very important topic that is highly relevant to the UPSC exams. The questions surrounding these topics can be asked in GS-II and in Essay. Factual details and names of various agreements can easily make an appearance in the Prelims as well.
In this lecture we will outline the history of WTO and understand what led to the present scenario in the WTO negotiations. We will detail out why the developed and developing nations are finding it increasingly difficult to utilize the opportunity afforded by an organization like WTO to advance our collective interests. Finally, we will critically examine the outcomes of the negotiations and see what is the future for the WTO, and especially what should be India’s role going forward.
All that you need to know about the WTO, the recent developments, the justifications, the criticisms, and the conceptual approach to analyzing such details are explained lucidly in the lecture.
