The New Yankee Workshop featured the construction of woodworking projects, including workshop accessories, architectural details and furniture projects ranging from simple pieces to complex, high-quality reproductions of antique classic furniture. In the course of 21 seasons, approximately 235 projects were produced. In addition to furniture and cabinets, the show also focused on outdoor projects such as the building of a gazebo, shed, greenhouse, sailing boat, flag pole, mail box, cupola, and fences.

Hi everyone, I wanted to show an update to the video I made for planting desert trees from seed. These mesquite tree seedlings are doing wonderful, and were easy to sprout. And of course they were free. Be careful cutting the seeds from the pods with scissors, some people instead put several pods in a bag and lightly strike them with a hammer. I usually cut a tiny piece off the tip of the seed so water can get in. Soak in a cup of water 4-8 hours. I place about 5-8 seeds per one gallon container, one inch deep, well dampened soil, and cover it with a piece of plastic wrap and a rubber band, then place in the shade. They will come up within a week. Keep moist, and out of direct light for a month or so, especially in the Summer. Today it's 114F so far the hottest day of the year. Poke some hole in the plastic after they sprout, remove it when they are 2-3 inches tall. Don't let the seedlings dry out, they may die. The seed pods are often made into flour, and the mature wood is prized for firewood. Native to the SW, and drought tolerant once established. They can grow very fast with regular watering. Mesquite
Mesquite is the common name for several species of small trees. They are native to the southwestern United States and Mexico (except for creeping mesquite, which is invasive in southern California). Mesquite is one of the most expensive types of lumber in the U.S. A mature tree can be milled and sold for thousands of dollars. It was a very popular type of wood used by early Spaniards to build ships; but is now used most commonly for high end rustic furniture and cabinets. Scraps and small pieces are used commonly as wood for cooking in southern states; and also brings a premium on the market.
The Tamaulipan mezquital ecoregion, in the deserts and xeric shrublands biome, is located in the southern United States and northeastern Mexico. It covers an area of 141,500 km2 (54,600 sq mi), encompassing a portion of the Gulf Coastal Plain in southern Texas, northern Tamaulipas, northeastern Coahuila, and part of Nuevo León
This tree blooms from spring to summer.
Etymology
The English word mesquite is borrowed from the Spanish word mezquite, which in turn was borrowed from the Nāhuatl term mizquitl.
