http://democracynow.org - A Palestinian village has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Israel is throwing open its doors to refugees. Those were some of the headlines that appeared in a fake version of The New York Times distributed across New York City on Tuesday. The paper carried the slogan "All the news we didn’t print." The prank copy of the revered "Gray Lady" also announced Democratic presidential candidate "Hilarity Clifton" planned to quit the presidential race to head up a women’s nonprofit based in Ramallah. The edition even has fake ads. Volunteers distributed 10,000 copies of the fake paper, but no group took responsibility—until now. Jane Hirschmann of Jews Say No! tells Democracy Now! her group and Jewish Voices for Peace produced the paper. We speak to Hirschmann and Ben Norton, journalist at Salon.

Photographer Hillary Swift, one of two recent graduates currently interning at The New York Times, shares photos and talks about her experience covering a wide range of assignments for the newspaper this summer. She also shares an intense personal project documenting her cousin's struggle with heroin addiction as well as her documentary on an anarchist commune called Slab City in Southern California.
Bio: Hilary Swift is currently based in New York where she is one of the photography interns with The New York Times. She recently received her bachelors degree in Visual Journalism from Brooks Institute. Originally from a small town in Vermont, Swift studied liberal arts for two years at Cornell College in Iowa. In the summer of 2014, she interned with the Reno Gazette Journal and in the spring of 2015 she interned with the Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg, Va. Swift was a grateful attendee of the Eddie Adams Workshop in Jeffersonville, New York in October, 2014 and of the New York Portfolio Review in April, 2015. Although her focus for the last year and a half has primarily been on improving her daily photojournalism, Swift is avidly looking for and pursuing long term projects. In addition to the ongoing photo story on her cousin, Althea, Swift spent as much time as she could in the Fall of 2014 in Slab City, California. It is there she worked alongside fellow Brooks students, Sarah Bourscheid and Chris Martinez, on a documentary film about a woman waiting for her children to be return to her–the trailer can be found in the "Multimedia" section of this website. Swift also enjoys photographing live music, traveling and reading as much as possible.
