A Hindu Finds Spiritual Tranquility in Islam

Brother `Abdullah Shatti (or Ashish Ahatti) comes from a Hindu family. He belongs to the 'temple city' Udupi, Karnataka in south India. The city where you will find temples everywhere like the mosque in Dubai. He was curious to explore and find out the reality of human life on the face of this earth. What is the purpose of life? What will happen after death?Is it only births and deaths, and nothing else? This type of philosophical questions always occupied his mind. He tried to find objective answers for these rational questions. For this purpose, he visited many temples in different parts of India in order to see what lies inside those Hindu temples where he came to notice that the photos of so-called gods had dust on their frames,however, they were unable to remove it from themselves, if it is sothen how can they help others? After seeing such scenes,he concluded that the foundation and essence of Hindu religion were fragile and weak. He could not find his goal in Hindu faith and worship system; consequently, he abandoned his ancestor's Hindu religion and joined another Hindu sect that assured him of his belief in one God that is Shiva. He was attracted to their claim of believing in monotheism thinking that it was the way that should be followed by sound mind.He joined some religious courses with them and came to a strange experience as he participated in a gathering where a young lady sat on a chair and devotees were sitting around her. He was told that some positive vibrations are passing through her eyes towards her devotees. However, he never was satisfied with these allusions and unbelievable interpretation of his religious mentors. Therefore, he left this group and went to some Christian people who welcomed him and treated him with honor and respect. He was influenced by their noble manner and good conduct believing that those people were so nice and their religion was the right path. He received a copy of the Bible from one of his Christian friends, when he opened it he found on the cover page of the Bible the phrase "Revised Edition". The phrase caught his eyes and raised a serious question in his mind; if this is a revealed scripture who has revised it? Also he was doubtful about the Christian theory of "One is three and three are one".Brother `Abdullah Ashish thought that if something is from God it must be plain and logical not complicated that could not be understood by a simple person. Here he points outan important issue;faith in unseen must be understandable and rational not contradictory or defying the plain mind of human-being. Brother `Abdullah Shatti found the Christian faith a complicated and contradictory one, according to him, if the foundation is clear everything within it would be clear but if the foundation itself is unclear everything within it would be unclear and fragile. Brother `Abdullah Ashish describes his spiritual journey acknowledging that he became skeptical of Christian faith system and believed that this world is everything, everyone has to enjoy his life. In other words, he became an atheist; he jumped from 33 Million Gods to three gods and then dived into zero gods.He accompanied his atheist friends and indulged in music and songs until his family members and guardian became anxious about his habit and way of life and hated him. Though, he was not satisfied with his new method of life. He asked himself: what is after all these enjoyments and pleasures? What is next? Do all these physical delights really quench human thirsts and aspirations? In fact, he remained thirsty for something more meaningful and consequential. After that he came to meet a Muslim friend who started discussions with him on many hot issues, like, hijab, concept of worship in Islam, four marriages for a Muslim man, terrorism etc. He put in front of his Muslim friend many misconceptions about Islam trying to attract him to his belief. The Muslim friend gave him answers of his all questions in a satisfactory style and appealing method. However, brother `Abullah Shatti doubted his answers and began his own serious spiritual study. His curiosity about these issues began to turn into a serious quest for everything about Islam. He began immersing himself in everything he thought related to Islam until he got a copy of the translation of the Glorious Qur'an and began reading it in front of his Muslim friend.He admits that the meaning of the Glorious Qur'an influenced his mind in a fascinating way but he tried to conceal his impression lest he will lose the debate with his Muslim friend.He tried to hunt every mistake in the Glorious Qur'an to silence his Muslim friend,but he got satisfactory answers for his all serious and philosophical questions that he did not find anywhere. It is noteworthy that many reverts to Islam were people who tried to read the Qur'an to find mistakes and to debate with Muslims but finally the divine charm of Qur'an won their hearts and minds.
