A demonstration and explanation of the scout mission generation module I've been developing for a multi-agent robotic system as part of my senior design course. It's a work in progress but I'm about to give a presentation on it so in preparation I created this video. I think this is a simple and cost effective solution for the problem at hand as we didn't need to purchase any additional sensors or equipment and it seems quite capable of performing the required task of autonomously searching an area.

The video shows the autonomous localization of objects on agricultural areas using our autonomous team of cooperating ground and air robots. The aerial robot equipped with high-resolution camera and simple GPS receiver is used for visual mapping and geo-referencing of the agricultural area. A ground robot uses the generated visual map to efficiently approach detected objects to perform arbitrary actions (e.g. application of pesticides/herbicides) at the object's locations. The video shows the results of a successful field test experiment.

In this video, we demonstrate our flying 3D scanner. Our quadrotor flies autonomously over an area of interest using only its onboard sensors: namely, a single, down-looking camera and an inertial measurement unit. All flight-relevant computation is performed onboard, on a smartphone processor. No pilot, GPS, or motion-capture system is required. We stream a subset of the images down to a laptop computer, where we compute a dense 3D model of the environment. Our algorithms are so efficient that we can create these models in real-time. Therefore, our system has high potential for applications in which detailed information about an unknown environment is time critical, such as during search-and-rescue missions.

An autonomous area or autonomous entity is an area of a country that has a degree of autonomy, or freedom from an external authority. Typically it is either geographically distinct from the rest of the country or populated by a national minority. Countries that include autonomous areas are often federacies. Autonomous areas can be divided into territorial autonomies, subregional territorial autonomies and local autonomies.
Many autonomous areas lie within two of the world's largest countries, People's Republic of China and Russia.
China (PRC) has five types of autonomous areas.
Found only as divisions of Inner Mongolia. In effect, these are autonomous counties (see below).
The most numerous type of autonomous area in China, found both within and outside the larger autonomous prefectures and regions.
China has 30 prefectures that are autonomous, mostly in the periphery of the country.
A first-level administrative subdivision of China. There are five ARs in China. They are Inner Mongolia AR, Tibet AR, Ningxia Hui AR, Xinjiang Uyghur AR, and Guangxi Zhuang AR. Regardless of the names, these regions are in fact less autonomous than the special administrative regions of China.

A demonstration and explanation of the scout mission generation module I've been developing for a multi-agent robotic system as part of my senior design course. It's a work in progress but I'm about to give a presentation on it so in preparation I created this video. I think this is a simple and cost effective solution for the problem at hand as we didn't need to purchase any additional sensors or equipment and it seems quite capable of performing the required task of autonomously searching an area.

Researchers at the University of Michigan are developing an autonomous unmanned vehicle attached with temperature sensors to define hypoxic or dissolved oxygen areas in Michigan's smaller lakes.
Outputs of a coupled hydrodynamic and limnological model will be used to derive a preliminary and optimal sampling path for the boat. The path of the vehicle is then changed in real time to maximize the value of collected data.
The project is being run by Civil and Environmental Engineering Assistant Professor Branko Kerkez with expectations of scaling up the size of the vessel to eventually take readings inside Lake Erie, an area with a history of hypoxic problems.
About the Professor:
Branko Kerkez wants to build the Internet of water, an intelligent cyber-physical system that connects natural water bodies with physical infrastructure. One main area of interest is the control and optimization of large-scale water systems, spanning everything from water supply (lakes, snowpack, reservoirs) to demand (agricultural and urban uses, hydropower production, decentralized operations of municipal water grids).
