Francis Pym, Baron Pym
Francis Leslie Pym, Baron Pym, MC, PC (13 February 1922 – 7 March 2008) was a British politician. A member of the Conservative Party, he served in various positions in the Cabinet in the 1970s and 1980s, including Foreign Secretary, Defence Secretary, Northern Ireland Secretary and Leader of the House of Commons. He was Member of Parliament (MP) representing the constituencies of Cambridgeshire (1961–83) and South East Cambridgeshire (1983–87), and was made a life peer in 1987.
Early life
Pym was born at Penpergwm Lodge, near Abergavenny in Monmouthshire. His father, Leslie Pym, was also a Member of Parliament, while his grandfather, the Right Reverend Walter Ruthven Pym, was Bishop of Bombay. He was not a descendant of the 17th century Parliamentarian John Pym as has been commonly held (see Pym's own published family history). He was educated at Eton, before going on to Magdalene College, Cambridge. For much of the Second World War, Pym served in North Africa and Italy as a captain and regimental adjutant in the 9th Lancers. He was awarded the Military Cross, and he ended his military service as a major. Pym was a managing director and landowner before he went into politics.

Crossbones (Brock Rumlow) is a fictional character, a supervillain in the Marvel Comics universe. He was created by writer Mark Gruenwald and artist Kieron Dwyer in Captain America #359–360 (1989). Avengers: Age of Ultron continues to dominate the box office, but it’s never too early to look to the future as the cast of next year’s Captain America: Civil War has officially been announced with new members and old favorites. Before we get started, just a quick warning there will be some Avengers: Age of Ultron spoilers so if you haven’t seen it yet, best to go check out another of our videos. Okay, with Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr. leading the cast, next year’s Captain America: Civil War was already looking more like an Avengers sequel than a standalone Captain America movie and the official cast announcement confirms it. In a recent interview with MTV, Evans says the sequel will be a way to quote, “…jump off into the next Avengers, Infinity War, so Cap 3 is going to be the set-up of the real battle, so there are a lot of people.” And a lot of people there are! In addition to Evans and RDJ, Cap 3 will mark the return of several The Winter Soldier stars including Scarlett Johansson as “Black Widow”, Sebastian Stan as “Bucky Barnes” aka “The Winter Soldier”, Frank Grillo as “Crossbones”, Anthony Mackie as “Falcon” and Emily VanCamp as “Agent 13” aka “Sharon Carter”, niece of former Steve Rogers love interest Peggy Carter in the comics. It was announcement earlier this week that The Hobbit star Martin Freeman has joined the cast in an as yet unnamed role. Though there has since been a lot of speculation on which role Freeman will play, it’s assumed he will play “Everett Ross” a government agent who is assigned to “Wakanda”. Wakanda is the fictional African nation featured in Age of Ultron that is the source of the indestructible metal vibranium that Cap’s shield is made out of and Ultron used for his sinister plot. Speaking of Wakanda, Cap 3 will also mark the debut of Chadwick Boseman as Wakanda leader “Black Panther” before he gets his own solo film in 2018. Other returning characters in Civil War include Jeremy Renner, who recently confirmed he’ll reprise his role as “Hawkeye” in the film as will New Avengers Elizabeth Olsen as “Scarlet Witch”, Don Cheadle as “War Machine” and Paul Bettany as “Vision”. Captain America: Civil War will also mark the first appearance of Paul Rudd as “Ant-Man” following his debut in the standalone film that is set to arrive July 17th. It was previously rumor, but now confirmed that William Hurt will also be back to play “General ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross”, last seen in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. And finally, it has also been confirmed that Daniel Bruhl, who most recently appeared in Woman in Gold, will play the villainous “Baron Zemo” in the film. No word yet on who will play “Spider-Man” in the film though Hugo star Asa Butterfield is rumored to be the frontrunner. In addition to the official cast announcement, we’re also getting some details on the plot which is described as quote, “Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The Superhuman Registration Act had been a long time in the making. The extension of the often-proposed, never-passed Mutant Registration Act, the Superhuman Registration Act arose following the devastating attack on Manhattan in reprisal for Nick Fury's "Secret War" and the Hulk's destructive rampage in Las Vegas, which killed 26 adults and 2 children (unbeknownst to the general public, The Illuminati subsequently deceived the Hulk and jettisoned him into space following this incident. Following M-Day, 90% of the Earth's mutant population found itself spontaneously depowered. With the mutant population suddenly far less visible and extremist groups claiming the event marked a turn in the tide of growing mutantdom (if not divine punishment against all mutants), sympathy for the group was near an all-time low. The majority of the remaining mutants — estimated at 198—were gathered up and forced to relocate to the Xavier Institute for their own protection. These events put public support for the registration bill at around 50%.
Tony Stark (Iron Man) was among those working to prevent passage of the act. He even hired a new Titanium Man to attack him immediately after his testimony before the Commission on Superhuman Activities, hoping it would hammer home that the act would make the nation less capable of dealing with rogue or foreign superhuman threats. The anti-registration camp seemed to be making headway, and might have even defeated the bill by the narrowest of margins, if not for the events that took place in Stamford, Connecticut.

Pham Duy Khiem (1908-1974) was a graduate of the prestigious École Normale Supérieure, Paris, and Ambassador of the Republic of (South) Vietnam to France in the mid-fifties. He wrote two collections of Vietnamese folktales in French, republished as Légendes des terres sereines (Paris 1951). These stories have been used by other writers, often without acknowledging Pham’s authorship. Erik Panzer: Multiple zeta values in deformation quantization
The lecture was held within the framework of the Hausdorff Trimester Program: Periods in Number Theory, Algebraic Geometry and Physics. Abstract: Maxim Kontsevich gave a universal formula for the quantization of Poisson brackets (the star product), as a formal power series in differential operators. The terms in this series are indexed by directed graphs, each of which is associated to a certain integral over the moduli space of punctured disks. In a forthcoming paper with Peter Banks and Brent Pym, we use Francis Brown's approach to the periods of the moduli space of genus zero curves, together with the single-valued integration method of Oliver Schnetz, to give a general algorithm for the computation of any of these integrals in terms of multiple zeta values. Pham Duy Khiem (1908-1974) was a graduate of the prestigious École Normale Supérieure, Paris, and Ambassador of the Republic of (South) Vietnam to France in the mid-fifties. He wrote two collections of Vietnamese folktales in French, republished as Légendes des terres sereines (Paris 1951). These stories have been used by other writers, often without acknowledging Pham’s authorship. In the presentation, emphasis will be placed on translation and the exercise of power: (i) first with regard to control over texts -- what is chosen to be translated, who chooses it, how the target text is produced, how it is integrated into the target culture, and (ii) with regard to plagiarism, the ownership of the texts.
Professor Harry Aveling PhD DCA holds adjunct appointments in the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, Monash University, and Asian Studies, La Trobe University. He specializes in Southeast Asian Literature and Translation Studies. He has translated extensively from Indonesian and Malay and is the author, with Teri Yamada, of the entry on “Southeast Asian Translation Traditions” in the Routledge Encyclopedia of Translation Studies, 2009. His most recent translation is Why the Sea is Full of Salt and Other Vietnamese Folktales by Ming Tran Huy (2017).
