Ida Lupino, Hurd Hatfield and Patricia Cutts star in the 1959 TV drama, "Various Temptations," about a Jack The Ripper-style killer in London.
Painting by HENRIQUE MEDINA was featured in the 1945 film "THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY" starring HURD HATFIELD as the title role. The painting was once sold for $25,000 at the MGM Auction in 1970 (that means about $151,000 with inflation considered for 2015), and at one point was given to Hurd Hatfield himself. After Hatfield's death in 1998, his inheritance went to his longtime friend, playwright Maggie Williams. Though according to Williams' sons, Anthony and Peter McKay, she did not keep the painting shortly after the actor's death. In other words, it was never held at the “Hurd Hatfield Collection” auction in Ireland on March 2007...so that means nobody knew where the painting went for almost 2 decades. Fast forward to August 2014, Art Collector and Hurd Hatfield's relative, Robert Hatfield Ellsworth died at the age of 85. In 2015 it was revealed that Ellsworth owned the painting until his death. The painting was held for auction on March 21, 2015 at Christie’s in the Rockefeller Center, NYC. But before the day of the auction, there was a small window of opportunity to see it live and publicly on display from March 11 to March 20.
How much was this painting sold for? The HURD HATFIELD “PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY” 1945 painting by HENRIQUE MEDINA sold for $149,000!!!! If you think about it, this is quite extraordinary. I mean the painting was only worth $5000 to $8000 because it has some damages here and there, it came from a very old movie that the amount of public awareness for it has significantly dwindled over time, and people nowadays (at least on social media websites) only know Ben Barnes or Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray (both did a wonderful job btw), which leaves Hurd Hatfield "almost" forgotten. In other words, it seemed that the painting would be sold for more or less of said estimate price ($5000-$8000). But that was not the case.
It sold for $149,000!!!!
The painting and movie still have relevance! Hurd Hatfield is still remembered! But to be fair, Hatfield was essentially the face of Dorian Gray for more than 60 years ;)
Since it has been sold to a wealthy collector, the whereabouts of the painting is now again a mystery. I am just very glad that I took the opportunity to see the painting live and up close :) :) :)

Hurd Hatfield
William Rukard Hurd Hatfield (December 7, 1917 – December 26, 1998) was an American actor.
Biography
Hatfield was born in New York City to William Henry Hatfield (died 1954), an attorney who served as deputy attorney general for New York, and his wife, Adele (née McGuire). He was educated at Columbia University before traveling to London, England where he studied drama and began acting in theater.
Career
He returned to America for his film debut in Dragon Seed (1944), in which he and his co-stars (Katharine Hepburn, Akim Tamiroff, Aline MacMahon, Turhan Bey) portrayed Chinese peasants, some more convincingly than others. It was Hatfield's second film, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945), that made him a star. As Oscar Wilde's ageless anti-hero, Hatfield received widespread acclaim for his good looks as much as for his acting ability. However, the actor was ambivalent about the role and his performance. "The film didn't make me popular in Hollywood," he commented later. "It was too odd, too avant-garde, too ahead of its time. The decadence, the hints of bisexuality and so on, made me a leper! Nobody knew I had a sense of humour, and people wouldn't even have lunch with me."

The Picture of Dorian Gray
The Picture of Dorian Gray is a philosophical novel by the writer Oscar Wilde, first published complete in the July 1890 issue of Lippincott's Monthly Magazine. The magazine's editor feared the story was indecent, and without Wilde's knowledge, deleted roughly five hundred words before publication. Despite that censorship, The Picture of Dorian Gray offended the moral sensibilities of British book reviewers, some of whom said that Oscar Wilde merited prosecution for violating the laws guarding the public morality. In response, Wilde aggressively defended his novel and art in correspondence with the British press, although he personally made excisions of some of the most controversial material when revising and lengthening the story for book publication the following year.
The longer and revised version of The Picture of Dorian Gray published in book form in 1891 featured an aphoristic preface—a defence of the artist's rights and of art for art's sake—based in part on his press defences of the novel the previous year. The content, style, and presentation of the preface made it famous in its own right, as a literary and artistic manifesto. In April 1891, the publishing firm of Ward, Lock and Company, who had distributed the shorter, more inflammatory, magazine version in England the previous year, published the revised version of The Picture of Dorian Gray.

GNU Hurd
GNU Hurd (usually referred to as the Hurd or just Hurd) is the multiserver microkernel written as part of GNU. It has been under development since 1990 by the GNU Project of the Free Software Foundation, designed as a replacement for the Unix kernel, and released as free software under the GNU General Public License.
GNU Hurd consists of a set of protocols and server processes (or daemons, in Unix terminology) that run on the GNU Mach microkernel. The Hurd aims to surpass the Unix kernel in functionality, security, and stability, while remaining largely compatible with it. The GNU Project chose the multiserver microkernel for the operating system, due to perceived advantages over the traditional Unix monolithic kernel architecture.
Name and logo
In December 1991 the primary architect of the Hurd described the name as a mutually recursive acronym:
As both hurd and hird are homophones of the English word herd, the full name GNU Hurd is also a play on the words herd of gnus, reflecting how the kernel works. The logo is called the Hurd boxes and it also reflects on architecture. The logo is a graph where nodes represent the Hurd kernel's servers and directed edges are IPC messages.

The Picture of Dorian Gray 1945 -- Painting of Hurd Hatfield by Henrique Medina
Painting by HENRIQUE MEDINA was featured in the 1945 film "THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY" starring HURD HATFIELD as the title role. The painting was once sold for $25,000 at the MGM Auction in 1970 (that means about $151,000 with inflation considered for 2015), and at one point was given to Hurd Hatfield himself. After Hatfield's death in 1998, his inheritance went to his longtime friend, playwright Maggie Williams. Though according to Williams' sons, Anthony and Peter McKay, she did not keep the painting shortly after the actor's death. In other words, it was never held at the “Hurd Hatfield Collection” auction in Ireland on March 2007...so that means nobody knew where the painting went for almost 2 decades. But before the day of the auction, there was a small window of opportunity to see it live and publicly on display from March 11 to March 20.
How much was this painting sold for? The HURD HATFIELD “PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY” 1945 painting by HENRIQUE MEDINA sold for $149,000!!!! If you think about it, this is quite extraordinary. I mean the painting was only worth $5000 to $8000 because it has some damages here and there, it came from a very old movie that the amount of public awareness for it has significantly dwindled over time, and people nowadays (at least on social media websites) only know Ben Barnes or Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray (both did a wonderful job btw), which leaves Hurd Hatfield "almost" forgotten. In other words, it seemed that the painting would be sold for more or less of said estimate price ($5000-$8000). But that was not the case.
It sold for $149,000!!!!
The painting and movie still have relevance! Hurd Hatfield is still remembered! But to be fair, Hatfield was essentially the face of Dorian Gray for more than 60 years ;)
Since it has been sold to a wealthy collector, the whereabouts of the painting is now again a mystery. I am just very glad that I took the opportunity to see the painting live and up close :) :) :)

Painting by HENRIQUE MEDINA was featured in the 1945 film "THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY" starring HURD HATFIELD as the title role. The painting was once sold for $25,000 at the MGM Auction in 1970 (that means about $151,000 with inflation considered for 2015), and at one point was given to Hurd Hatfield himself. After Hatfield's death in 1998, his inheritance went to his longtime friend, playwright Maggie Williams. Though according to Williams' sons, Anthony and Peter McKay, she did not keep the painting shortly after the actor's death. In other words, it was never held at the “Hurd Hatfield Collection” auction in Ireland on March 2007...so that means nobody knew where the painting went for almost 2 decades. Fast forward to August 2014, Art Collector and Hurd Hatfield's relative, Robert Hatfield Ellsworth died at the age of 85. In 2015 it was revealed that Ellsworth owned the painting until his death. The painting was held for auction on March 21, 2015 at Christie’s in the Rockefeller Center, NYC. But before the day of the auction, there was a small window of opportunity to see it live and publicly on display from March 11 to March 20.
How much was this painting sold for? The HURD HATFIELD “PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY” 1945 painting by HENRIQUE MEDINA sold for $149,000!!!! If you think about it, this is quite extraordinary. I mean the painting was only worth $5000 to $8000 because it has some damages here and there, it came from a very old movie that the amount of public awareness for it has significantly dwindled over time, and people nowadays (at least on social media websites) only know Ben Barnes or Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray (both did a wonderful job btw), which leaves Hurd Hatfield "almost" forgotten. In other words, it seemed that the painting would be sold for more or less of said estimate price ($5000-$8000). But that was not the case.
It sold for $149,000!!!!
The painting and movie still have relevance! Hurd Hatfield is still remembered! But to be fair, Hatfield was essentially the face of Dorian Gray for more than 60 years ;)
Since it has been sold to a wealthy collector, the whereabouts of the painting is now again a mystery. I am just very glad that I took the opportunity to see the painting live and up close :) :) :)

Series Premise:
Studio One, presented by Westinghouse, was one of the first of the anthology TV programs. A total of 466 episodes aired on CBS between 1948 and 1958. The program appeared in various time slots before finally settling in on Monday night. Like a number of other 1950s and '60s television shows, Studio One was moved over from radio, where it had started in the mid-1940s. By 1957, live TV was giving way to filmed shows, and the industry was migrating from New York to Los Angeles. The show was renamed Studio One in Hollywood and started airing filmed shows. The Picture of Dorian Gray 1945 -- Painting of Hurd Hatfield by Henrique Medina
Painting by HENRIQUE MEDINA was featured in the 1945 film "THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY" starring HURD HATFIELD as the title role. The painting was once sold for $25,000 at the MGM Auction in 1970 (that means about $151,000 with inflation considered for 2015), and at one point was given to Hurd Hatfield himself. After Hatfield's death in 1998, his inheritance went to his longtime friend, playwright Maggie Williams. Though according to Williams' sons, Anthony and Peter McKay, she did not keep the painting shortly after the actor's death. In other words, it was never held at the “Hurd Hatfield Collection” auction in Ireland on March 2007...so that means nobody knew where the painting went for almost 2 decades. Painting by HENRIQUE MEDINA was featured in the 1945 film "THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY" starring HURD HATFIELD as the title role. The painting was once sold for $25,000 at the MGM Auction in 1970 (that means about $151,000 with inflation considered for 2015), and at one point was given to Hurd Hatfield himself. After Hatfield's death in 1998, his inheritance went to his longtime friend, playwright Maggie Williams. Though according to Williams' sons, Anthony and Peter McKay, she did not keep the painting shortly after the actor's death. In other words, it was never held at the “Hurd Hatfield Collection” auction in Ireland on March 2007...so that means nobody knew where the painting went for almost 2 decades. Fast forward to August 2014, Art Collector and Hurd Hatfield's relative, Robert Hatfield Ellsworth died at the age of 85. In 2015 it was revealed that Ellsworth owned the painting until his death. The painting was held for auction on March 21, 2015 at Christie’s in the Rockefeller Center, NYC. But before the day of the auction, there was a small window of opportunity to see it live and publicly on display from March 11 to March 20.
How much was this painting sold for? The HURD HATFIELD “PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY” 1945 painting by HENRIQUE MEDINA sold for $149,000!!!! If you think about it, this is quite extraordinary. I mean the painting was only worth $5000 to $8000 because it has some damages here and there, it came from a very old movie that the amount of public awareness for it has significantly dwindled over time, and people nowadays (at least on social media websites) only know Ben Barnes or Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray (both did a wonderful job btw), which leaves Hurd Hatfield "almost" forgotten. In other words, it seemed that the painting would be sold for more or less of said estimate price ($5000-$8000). But that was not the case.
It sold for $149,000!!!!
The painting and movie still have relevance! Hurd Hatfield is still remembered! But to be fair, Hatfield was essentially the face of Dorian Gray for more than 60 years ;)
Since it has been sold to a wealthy collector, the whereabouts of the painting is now again a mystery. I am just very glad that I took the opportunity to see the painting live and up close :) :) :)
