Owen Guinn Smith (May 2, 1920 – January 20, 2004) was an American athlete, the 1948 Olympic champion in the pole vault.

Born in McKinney, Texas, Smith moved to California when he was a kid. He was originally a high jumper, but UC Berkeley, the university he wanted to attend, already had a strong high jumping team, so he took up pole vaulting. He won the NCAA championships in 1941, the year before he graduated as a history major. During the remainder of World War II, Guinn Smith served as an air force pilot in Asia.

Smith, the 1947 national pole vault champion, was sent to the 1948 Olympics in London. During a rainy competition, Smith took the gold in his last attempt for 4.30 m (14 ft 1 1/4 in).

He died at age 83 in San Francisco of emphysema.

Dr. Eldon R. Smith OC, MD, FRCPC is currently the Chair of the Strategic Advisory Board of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta (LCIA). A cardiologist by training, he has also held numerous positions over his career including Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary and the role of President for both the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and the Association of Canadian Medical Colleges. Most recently Dr. Smith was appointed to the Board of Alberta Health Services.

In addition to Dr. Smith's current role with the LCIA, he is also Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology. As of October 2006, Dr. Smith has been the Chair of the Canadian Heart Health Strategy and Action Plan, an initiative of the Government of Canada. Dr. Smith is also the current President and Director of the Peter Lougheed Medical Research Foundation, a national initiative to support excellence in health research in Canada.

Richard Arlen (September 1, 1899 – March 28, 1976) was an American actor.

Born Sylvanus Richard Van Mattimore in St. Paul, Minnesota, he attended the University of Pennsylvania. He served as a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps during World War I. His first job after the war was with St. Paul's Athletic Club. Then he went to the oilfields of Texas and Oklahoma and then found work as a tool boy, a messenger and sporting editor of a newspaper before going to Los Angeles to star in films but no producer wanted him. He was a delivery boy for a film laboratory when the motor cycle he was riding landed him a broken leg outside the Paramount Pictures lot. A sympathetic film director gave him his start as an extra. He appeared at first in silent films before making the transition to talkies. His first important film role was in Vengeance of the Deep (1923).

He took time out from his Hollywood career to teach as a United States Army Air Forces flight instructor in World War II.

Arlen is best known for his role as a pilot in the Academy Award-winning Wings (1927) with Clara Bow, Charles 'Buddy' Rogers, Gary Cooper, El Brendel, and his first wife, Jobyna Ralston, whom he married in 1927. He is one of the more famous residents of the celebrity enclave, Toluca Lake, California.

Jean Parker (August 11, 1915 – November 30, 2005) was an American movie actress. She landed her first screen test while still in high school. She made pictures with well-known actors including Robert Donet, Edward G. Robinson, and Lionel Barrymore. She was married five times and had one son.

Born as Lois Mae Green in Deer Lodge, Montana, she appeared in 70 movies from 1932 through 1966. In 1932 Parker posed as a flower girl and living poster in a float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, where she was seen by by Ida Koverman, secretary to MGM mogul Louis B. Mayer. The following day the studio calls her on the phone and invites her for a screen test. She attended Pasadena schools and graduated from John Muir High School. Her original aspirations were in the fine arts and illustration.

She had a successful career at MGM, RKO and Columbia including important roles such as the tragic Beth in the original Little Women, among many other film appearances including Frank Capra's Lady for a Day and Gabriel Over the White House; Sequoia; Limehouse Blues with George Raft and Anna May Wong; The Ghost Goes West, opposite Robert Donat; and Rasputin and the Empress, with the Barrymore siblings (John, Ethel, and Lionel) in the only movie they all made together. In 1939, she starred opposite Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in RKO's The Flying Deuces.

Emma Dunn (26 February 1875 – 14 December 1966) was an English-born actress and writer. She appeared in 108 films between 1914 and 1948. She appeared onstage in her early teens, graduating to the London stage for several years and later became a noted Broadway actress. She appeared in the first American production of Ibsen's Peer Gynt (1906) with Richard Mansfield as Peer. She played Peer's mother, Ase, even though she was, in real life, 20 years younger than Mansfield. She appeared in three productions for theatre impresario David Belasco: The Warrens of Virginia (1907), The Easiest Way (1909) and The Governor's Lady (1912). In The Easiest Way, Dunn portrayed Annie, who was black, in blackface. Dunn wrote two books regarding voice quality and speech: Thought Quality in the Voice (published in 1933) and You Can Do It (published in 1947).

Dunn made her first film in 1914, a silent film of her 1910 stage success Mother, directed by Maurice Tourneur. This was Tourneur's first American film. Dunn's second film was 1920's Old Lady 31, reprising the role she played in the 1916 Broadway play of the same name. One more silent film followed in 1924, Pied Piper Malone, before she made her talkie debut in Side Street co-starring the Moore brothers, Matt, Owen and Tom as her sons. Dunn was born in Cheshire, England, and died in Los Angeles, California.
