This short film is a re-enactment of the critical year in Dr. Frederick Banting's life when he discovered insulin for the treatment of diabetes at the University of Toronto. It depicts the odds against which he and his assistant, Charles Best, worked; the scepticism of other doctors and the final victory that gave thousands of diabetics hope for a healthier life.
Directed by Stanley Jackson - 1958
Frederick Grant Banting completed his medical studies at the University of Toronto and established a surgical practice in London, Ontario. He supplemented his income by working as a medical demonstrator at the University of Western Ontario. It was there he conceived a technique which might permit isolation of the anti-diabetic component of the pancreas. He returned to the University of Toronto in 1922 to conduct experiments on the pancreas at the labs of Dr. J.R.R. MacLeod. By the time the summer had ended, he and Charles Best had isolated insulin.

Sir Frederick Banting, Canada's first Nobel prize winner,and the first Canadian on the cover of Time magazine, was one of the twentieth century's most celebrated medical heroes. His discovery of insulin, made with his assistant Charles Best and other colleagues, was among the most important medical breakthroughs of the century.
Since its discovery, insulin has saved or transformed the lives of millions of people worldwide who are suffering with diabetes. It's no wonder that the Banting House has welcomed visitors from over 56 countries.
In this video we visit the Banting House in London, Ontario, and learn more about this man whose contributions to Canada were many. In late September 1918, just weeks before Armistice, he was wounded in the right arm by an exploding German shell. Nonetheless, he continued treating other wounded patients. For his bravery and determination under fire, he was awarded the Military Cross.
Banting was also a watercolor painter of some note and the video includes some shots of his work and the work of A.Y.Jackson, a noted Canadian painter.
Frederick Banting is no doubt one of Canada's greatest citizens. .

Dramatic, vibrant and striking, yet deceptively simple, the piece uses bold graphics emphasized by a vivid color palette and direct messaging to create a good, strong effective piece to succinctly tell the compelling story of surgeon, Frederick Banting and his determination to find a treatment for diabetes.
In 1920, working on a hunch, Banting made one of the greatest discoveries to benefit mankind ever - the correlation between diabetes and insulin.
Banting struggled to get his theory recognized and funded so that he could make, refine and demonstrate it's effectiveness. He refused to take no for an answer lobbying for a laboratory and some simple supplies.
Working day and night with associate, Charles Best and research student, James Collip, he finally persevered in distilling a treatment for a disease that is incurable to this very day. Insulin is still the only treatment for diabetes, making the difference between life and death for millions of people worldwide.
In 1923 he was jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for physiology and medicine, sharing his prize winnings with Best. In a great humanitarian gesture, Banting sold the rights for the patent to the University of Toronto for just one dollar, ensuring that insulin could forever more be available to anyone in need.

Banting is a principal town in the district of Kuala Langat, Selangor in Malaysia. Banting has a population of 48,240. It is situated on the banks of Langat River (Sungai Langat in Malay). It is a Rest Town or Bandar Persinggahan of Federal route 
. The historical Bandar Jugra, a former royal town of Selangor is situated near Banting.
Banting is a very beautiful place. It consist beaches, hills, forest and farms. We can safely say Banting is an agricultural hub. Its main agricultural resources include oil palm plantation, poultry farms, battle leaves and it has a number of industrial areas.

Frederick Banting was born on 14 November 1891, in a farm house near Alliston, Ontario. The youngest of five children of William Thompson Banting and Margaret Grant, he attended public and high schools in Alliston. He attempted to enter the army but was refused due to poor eyesight. He then attended the University of Toronto in the faculty of divinity but soon transferred to medicine. He received his M.B degree in 1916 and enlisted in the Canadian Army Medical Corps, which had a need for medics in World War I. He was wounded at the battle of Cambrai in 1918. Despite his injuries, he helped other wounded men for sixteen hours, until another doctor told him to stop. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1919, for heroism.

The Hakka Teenagers Kuala Langat group trying to get the tour buses for the trip 2 Day 1 Night in Malacca and we decide to start the journey at 7am which depart from MacDonald Banting, Selangor to Ayer Keroh, Malacca. The whole journey from Banting to Ayer Keroh is taking about 3 hours (including one stop for lunch time at Seremban Rest & Service Area).
All luxury and economy buses are clean and comfortable, and were all highly recommended by travelers. It's also a good journey for traveler especially for backpacker.
