NBA Recap Miami Heat vs Dallas Mavericks | February 3, 2016 | Highlights

DALLAS (AP) After matching the worst shooting half of his career in the first 24 minutes against Dallas, Dwyane Wade missed his first shot of the third quarter.
When Amare Stoudemire grabbed the rebound and got the ball right back to Wade, the Miami star shot it again. And it went in.
Wade bounced back with 16 of his 18 points in the second half and Chris Bosh led the Heat with 20 in a 93-90 victory against the Mavericks on Wednesday night.
"I think I missed nine layups early on in the game," said Wade, who was 1 of 11 at halftime and scored his only points with just 48 seconds left in the second quarter. "Obviously, I understood in the second half I needed to put the ball in the basket a little bit more for us to win versus a team that can score the basketball."
Luol Deng finished with 15 points, including his only 3-pointer for a 92-87 lead with 1:04 remaining for Miami. The Heat improved to 9-1 against the Mavericks with their fourth sweep in five seasons since losing to Dallas in the 2011 NBA Finals.
Dirk Nowitzki also had a rough first half, but bounced back with 20 of his 28 points after halftime to lead Dallas. The Mavericks played without Deron Williams after he injured his right hip in a collision two nights earlier in Atlanta.
Wade gave Dallas a chance to tie in the closing seconds when he missed the second of two free throws with 15 seconds left, but Raymond Felton missed a long 3-pointer just before the buzzer when Bosh wouldn't let him get the ball to Nowitzki.
"I should have taken a timeout and set something up," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "I thought we had time to get a quick 3, or two, and still have time to get a steal or a foul."
Hassan Whiteside had 10 points, nine rebounds and five blocks in seven minutes after missing six games with a left hip injury as the Heat won a night after a season-best four-game winning streak ended in Houston.
Nowitzki and Wade combined for 21 points in the third quarter after the offensive stars from Miami's NBA Finals victory a decade earlier were just 3 of 18 from the field in the first half.
But the pair of veterans made seven of their first nine attempts in the third quarter, and Nowitzki scored all 11 of his points in the first 4:15 of the quarter.
Wade scored six straight points and eight overall when the Heat took the lead for good on a 12-0 run that put them up 67-59. He finished 6 of 19 from the field and had eight rebounds and four assists.
Whiteside came in with 8 minutes left in the second quarter and went into halftime with eight points, three rebounds and two blocks, both easy rejections on driving attempts by the smaller J.J. Barea. His first basket was an authoritative dunk that gave Miami its first lead at 33-32.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the plan was to wait until Friday for Whiteside's return, but that the 7-footer woke up feeling good.
"It was more than I was expecting," Spoelstra said. "We talked about it and said why not. We will see what he looks like in the second quarter and we will go from there."

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) With the ball in Kevin Durant's hands in the final seconds, Oklahoma City coach Billy Donovan didn't call a timeout. Instead, he let one of his superstars do his thing.
Durant made that decision pay off. He hit a 3-pointer with just a half-second on the clock to give the Thunder a wild 117-114 win over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.
Durant's buzzer-beater capped his 37-point outing for Oklahoma City, which has won five straight and 12 of its last 13. Durant extended his streak of games with 20 or more points to 36, the longest run in the NBA.
Oklahoma City's other superstar, Russell Westbrook, posted his third straight triple-double with 24 points, a career-high 19 rebounds and 14 assists. He has eight triple-doubles this season, five coming in the last 11 games. It was the 27th triple-double of his career, moving him into a tie with Rajon Rondo for second place among active players, behind only LeBron James with 39.
"When you have the two players (Donovan) has, you don't need a timeout," Orlando coach Scott Skiles said. "Just give them the ball and get out of the way."
Victor Oladipo scored 37 points - just one off his career high - to lead Orlando, which has lost 14 of its last 16 games. The Magic have dropped nine of their last 10against Oklahoma City, including a double-overtime thriller in Orlando on Oct. 30, in which they blew an 18-point fourth-quarter lead.
Orlando led into the final minute on Wednesday before Westbrook tied the game at 114 with a driving layup with 29.4 seconds left. Oklahoma City's Serge Ibaka then blocked a layup attempt by Oladipo and Dion Waiters grabbed the rebound for the Thunder.
"There it is," Skiles said. "We drove to the basket and they blocked it. Westbrook drove to the basket and laid the ball in."
Waiters quickly passed the basketball to Durant, who stopped about 28 feet from the basket and knocked down the 3-pointer to put Oklahoma City ahead, saying he "just felt comfortable with the shot when I let it go."
After a timeout, Oladipo missed a well-guarded 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
Durant deflected attention to Ibaka and Westbrook, saying they also made winning plays.
Ibaka "set (Oladipo) up for that block," Durant said. "That was a huge play. Russell made a huge play right before that, grabbing that rebound and calling timeout, and then also making a layup. That set me up for the shot at the end. There's much more than just me making that shot."
Ibaka finished with six blocks to go with nine points and seven rebounds for Oklahoma City, while Enes Kanter had 13 points. Hezonja and Nikola Vucevic each scored 16 points for Orlando, while Tobias Harris added 15 and Smith, 13.

Curry was all systems go Wednesday night as he made 11 3-pointers and scored 51 points to lead the Golden State Warriors past the Washington Wizards 134-121 for their eighth straight victory, which came in spite of a monster performance from John Wall.
Wall scored a season-best 41 points in the shadows as Curry shot 13 of 14 for 36 points in the best first half of his career. After scoring just 13 points Sunday at New York, Curry was in a zone, tying Gilbert Arenas and Michael Jordan for the Verizon Center record and reaching 50 for the second time this season.
"The shots that you know feel good go in, and some of the shots that you're like, `Oh that's off,' they end up going in," Curry said. "It's a fun feeling, and you want to ride that until you can't anymore."
Curry looked human when he missed seven of 10 shots during the third quarter but was dominant most of the night as the Warriors (45-4) matched the 1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers for the best 49-game start in NBA history.
"It's like Kobe (Bryant) when he had 81," Wall said. "He couldn't miss. You keep defending the best way you can. We challenged some shots. He didn't have too many open looks. He just made them."
Curry's 5 of 17 shooting performance against the Knicks was all forgotten by the end of this game. Not like coach Steve Kerr was worried.
"I didn't know Steph was in a slump," Kerr said. "Steph's never in a slump."
Curry made his first six shots from the floor and was feeling it, especially from 3-point territory. He came one 3 short of tying the single-game record, and though it was on his mind, he didn't start popping shots just to reach it as the game got out of hand.
"I was kind of searching but not trying to force with where the game was," Curry said. "You can't mess around with the basketball gods trying to chase a record if the game doesn't call for it."
The game called for plenty of baskets because of 18 Golden State turnovers, including seven from Curry. Kerr said that needs to change if the Warriors want to defend their NBA title.
Many of those turnovers turned into points for Wall, who shot 17 of 25 and added 10 assists to set the tone for the Wizards (21-26), who led early but never got closer than two after the first quarter.
"I was just being aggressive and doing whatever shots I had," Wall said. "It was just a fast-paced game. (I was) also attacking the basket and getting to the rim a little bit."
Wall was doing all those things, but Curry was doing it all. He finished 19 of 28 and 11 of 16 from 3 but was still kicking himself for the turnovers more than reveling in the points.
"It's one of those games I think I had probably three of them that I shouldn't have had - just a couple lazy passes, telegraphed passes," Curry said. "It happens, but it's frustrating because when they happen, that's when they got back in the game and you don't want to give them any life with transition or easy fast-break opportunities where we can't get our defense set and I was the culprit plenty of times."

SAN ANTONIO (AP) LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard have sought a balance between respecting San Antonio's Big Three and completely taking over the Spurs.
The All-Star duo found their footing against the New Orleans Pelicans, helping San Antonio establish the best start at home in Western Conference history.
Aldridge had 36 points, setting his season high for the second consecutive game, and the Spurs beat the Pelicans 110-97 on Wednesday night to remain unbeaten at home.
"LaMarcus is feeling more and more comfortable all the time as the season progresses," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "I thought he was magnificent on both ends. Anthony (Davis) got three points in the fourth quarter, and LaMarcus did a great job on him. So, I thought he was special."
Davis finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds, but no other New Orleans starter scored in the final quarter.
San Antonio (41-8) won its 27th straight home game to open the season, snapping a tie with the 1977-78 Portland Trail Blazers for the best home start among Western Conference teams. The Spurs are tied for the third-best home start in NBA history.
Aldridge was critical to another double-digit victory, shooting 12 for 20 from the field two days after scoring 28 points in a win over Orlando.
"The ball has been going in," he said. "I'm taking the shots and making them. Playing more confident and more like myself and I think that the team has fed off that energy."
The Spurs' major offseason acquisition had plenty of help, especially from Leonard. The fellow West All-Star had 26 points and five rebounds.
Aldridge and Leonard combined to score 20 points in the final quarter, shooting 6 for 10. Aldridge made all eight of his free throws in the fourth.
"The last 5 minutes we had trouble coming up with any stops, and then we had trouble scoring," New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry said. "That usually spells doom."
On consecutive possessions in the fourth quarter, Aldridge scored on a putback and Leonard backed down Jrue Holiday for a short hook shot to give San Antonio a 100-89 lead with 4 1/2 minutes remaining.
Holiday added 20 points for New Orleans.
The Spurs went inside after having great success from long range.
Danny Green hit three consecutive 3-pointers as San Antonio closed the first quarter on a 13-4 run to turn a rare early deficit at home into a three-point lead. Green's second 3 came after Toney Douglas missed a fast-break layup after turning back to see how close Boris Diaw was.
"We just lost track of some guys," Davis said. "Danny Green hit a couple of 3s. Kawhi hit some tough shots."
Green finished with 16 points while going 4 for 8 on 3s.
Tim Duncan missed his fifth straight game with a sore right knee and Davis took advantage of his absence early.
Davis scored 12 points in the opening quarter on 5-for-7 shooting as Aldridge and David West struggled to contain New Orleans' All-Star forward.

NEW YORK (AP) Once the Indiana Pacers starting pushing the tempo in the second quarter, the Brooklyn Nets ended up in a hole that was just too deep.
C.J. Miles had 27 points, Paul George scored 17, and the Indiana Pacers sent the Nets to their fifth straight loss, 114-100 on Wednesday night.
"I got some open 3s, I got to the basket," Miles said. "I was able to play off of what the defense was giving me. I felt like I just had a good rhythm tonight."
George Hill added 13 for the Pacers. Brook Lopez had 21 points and Joe Johnson had 20 points and nine assists for the Nets.
Indiana opened the game on a 17-9 run. Brooklyn then missed its first eight shots to start second quarter. Indiana outscored the Nets 36-20 in the second and went up 62-43 at the half.
In the third quarter, Joe Johnson and Thaddeus Young combined for 21 points to help Brooklyn trim the deficit to 87-77 at the end of the third.
Indiana's bench outscored Brooklyn's by 42 points in the victory.
"They brought great energy," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "Solomon Hill with his energy, C.J. with his scoring, Joe Young made some big buckets, Lavoy Allen had a strong performance. They were a big part of the victory."
With Rodney Stuckey and Ian Mahinmi due back from injury, George believes Indiana should be considered a contender in the East.
"If C.J. gets hot like he was in November, I get hot like I was in November, Monta (Ellis) continues to play well, Myles (Turner) steps up and continues to play at a high level like he's doing, we get Ian back from injury, we get Stuckey back from injury, this team can be pretty scary," George said.
Pacers: Coach Frank Vogel praised the play of rookie Myles Turner who is averaging 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game over his past eight games. "I don't know if I'd call it a big surprise," Vogel said. "We have great belief in this young man. If there's a surprise, it's how quickly it's coming to him, maybe. When we selected him in the draft this year, we had very high hopes." ... Vogel also praised the return of Paul George after missing most of last season with a broken leg. "It's a miracle he's on a basketball court." ... Rodney Stuckey (ankle) did not dress.
Nets: Thaddeus Young posted his 22nd double-double, which is a new single-season career-high for him. ... Coach Tony Brown said a return for Chris McCullough could happen in the near future. "Chris will definitely be available after the All-Star break," Brown said. "There's a possibility he could get maybe get some minutes before the break. But again, I don't want this whole Chris McCullough thing to get so big that everybody wants to see him play. I'm not going to play him until I feel comfortable with him on the floor and I don't want to embarrass him." ... McCullough (knee), Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (ankle) and Jarrett Jack (knee surgery) did not dress.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Derrick Favors was his typical presence on defense, blocking and altering shots. It was a different story on offense until the most important moment of the game.
Favors was clanging shots and shooting airballs Wednesday night until he found himself open on the baseline and knocked down a key jumper that sent the Utah Jazz to an 85-81 win over the Denver Nuggets, extending their season-best winning streak to four games.
"It was a relief for me, man, just to see one go in. I was missing badly out there, but that one felt so good," Favors said.
Favors missed 16 games with back problems and the Jazz have been a different defensive team since his return five games ago. Utah, which also got 16 points from Gordon Hayward, has won five straight against the Nuggets.
Favors made that crucial 11-footer with 1:28 to play and then corralled a big offensive rebound and was fouled with 56 seconds remaining. He converted one of two free throws to give the Jazz an 82-77 lead, their largest of the game.
"I was having a bad night offensively so I had to make up for it defensively. Getting all the blocked shots, just being in the right spot at the right time," Favors said.
Danilo Gallinari, who scored 24 points, hit two free throws and Kenneth Faried made a follow shot sandwiched around a free throw by Rudy Gobert, but the Nuggets couldn't gain possession of a loose ball with 7 seconds left for a possible game-winner. The ball was first given to Denver, but the call was reversed on replay.
"It was a lack of execution, once again. The fourth quarter we had five turnovers and they had four offensive rebounds," Denver coach Michael Malone said. "We just weren't able to close the deal."
Hayward, who had 14 points in the second half, made two free throws to clinch it.
"We played with a lot of grit tonight even though we didn't play very well," Utah coach Quin Snyder said.
The Nuggets, who went 4 for 17 from the field in the final period, have lost six of nine. Faried scored 14 points, Gary Harris had 11 and Will Barton 10 for Denver.
"We forced them into taking tough, contested shots and I think that is what kept us in the game," Hayward said. "Even though we weren't hitting our shots, we hung around, hung around and pulled into a lead in the fourth."
The Jazz, who have hovered around the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference for much of the year, are making the most of their longest homestand of the season. The finale of the six-game set is Friday against Milwaukee.
Favors, often soft-spoken and humble, acknowledged the Jazz are much better with him in the lineup.
"I do make a difference," he said. "I just come out and provide a presence in the paint, defensively and offensively. I play hard."
In an often ragged game, neither team could gain a double-digit advantage. Amid a preponderance of pushing and grabbing, the Nuggets succeeded in getting to the free throw line 33 times to Utah's 20 - including 14 in the fourth quarter.
The Jazz went 5 of 22 from beyond the 3-point line, most on wide-open looks, but played tough enough on the defensive end to garner another victory.
"Guys aren't going to have it going offensively every game so you need to find ways to contribute to the game, whether it's hustle plays, defense or whatever. We did that tonight," Favors said.
Before the game, Malone stressed the importance of playing at a quick pace against the Jazz and urged his team to hit the century mark. The Nuggets didn't come close to reaching that goal but made Utah's offensive sets look haphazard and deflected a bevy of Jazz passes.
The Jazz are 10-0 when holding opponents under 90 points.
"That's how they want to play. We have a hard time when you force us to play that way. That's just the reality," Malone said.
Nikola Jokic, who had 27 points and 14 rebounds for the Nuggets in a 122-93 win Monday over Toronto, struggled with the Jazz big men and the effects of a left shoulder strain. Jokic had eight points and six rebounds.

When I create the new,
I'm an inspiration,
And don't lose my time and power,
Distracted by opposition.
New Moon in Aquarius coming up! A foreshadowing of the potential existing within the 2000 year Age of Aquarius we are just BEGINNING to feel! It is, indeed, a time of illumination and connection to the global consciousness, community, what it means and what it takes, and what it holds for the individuals within it.
I hope you make it to the end of the Report and meet 4 beautiful, amazing astrologers that have joined together with me in the New Paradigm Astrology Community! Please come by our website www.NewParadigmAstrology.com and say hello to Eugenia, Tim, Christine, and Marci (among others). It really is time to make change, feel the love, and spread Truth together! Hope you enjoy the process.

BOSTON (AP) As one of the NBA's top defensive teams this season, the Celtics have inevitably found themselves with some big leads.
They're still mastering how to play with those cushions.
Isaiah Thomas had 17 points and seven assists to help Boston hold off the Detroit Pistons 102-95 on Wednesday night.
Detroit fell behind by as many as 24 in the third quarter before cutting the deficit to seven, but the Celtics strung together enough late baskets to preserve the win.
Avery Bradley added 15 points for Boston, which has won six straight home games and seven of eight overall.
"It's hard to play up," Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. "You play a little bit more free when you're down. But we need to play well all the time."
Reggie Jackson led the Pistons with 17 points. Andre Drummond added 16 points and 13 rebounds.
The Pistons came back despite playing the second half without guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who left with a right groin strain after he appeared to slip on a wet spot on the court late in the second quarter.
Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy said Caldwell-Pope will have an MRI on Thursday but will "almost certainly be out" against New York.
As for the game, Van Gundy said his team never recovered from its slow start.
"We weren't ready to play at the beginning. They were right into us," he said. "We didn't handle their pressure well at all. Their defense took us out of everything. They did a great job, and we didn't respond to it."
The Celtics took advantage of the Pistons' poor shooting and took a 20-point lead into halftime. Boston shared the ball in the first two quarters, amassing 18 assists on 23 field goals.
All 10 Celtics who played in the first half scored, including 21 points from the bench.
Boston's Evan Turner, who finished with 14 points off the bench, said part of the reason for his team's lull in the second half can be attributed to the length of the game. It was extended thanks to 42 fouls.
"We just tried to execute down the stretch. Keep our poise. We thought after a while the whistles stopped blowing a little bit," he said. "But we just tried to battle back and weather the storm. Fortunately enough, we did."

Today on The Alex Jones Show
On this Wednesday, February 3 edition of the Alex Jones Show, we cover Rand Paul’s decision to drop out of the 2016 presidential race, why Hillary Clinton will never be held accountable for the scandal of her private email account, dirty tricks by the Cruz campaign against Ben Carson and Bernie Sanders’ plan to raise taxes on the middle class to pay for his socialist programs.
