Welcome to Belgrade-Serbia
Belgrade is situated in South-Eastern Europe, on the Balkan Peninsula. City lies 116.75 metres (383.0 ft) above sea level and is located at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. The river waters surround it from three sides, and that is why since ancient times it has been the guardian of river passages. Because of its position it was properly called "the gate" of the Balkans, and "the door

In this video I'm visiting Belgrade, Serbia. Oh how it feels good to be back in Belgrade. Last time I was in Belgrade was last year when I visited with my friend Gautier. This time, I was invited by the tourism board to take part in a trip which would explore lots of what Serbia had to offer - naturally I said sure and glad I did. This is just my first afternoon and evening but can give you an idea of things to do in Belgrade, Serbia.
I'm a fan of Belgrade as it's busy, fun, affordable and has good food / fast internet. It's one of my favourite cities in the Balkans or anywhere and considering it as a possible business base a few months a year.
A brief traveler's guide to Belgrade, Serbia
Does your European itinerary have you passing through Belgrade this summer? There are a number of outstanding attractions, amazing restaurants, and killer nightlife spots that be found within Serbia's capital, so don't be in a rush to pass through. Here's what you can expect to find in this Balkan hotspot...
Experience this city's ancient and medieval history
In order to get the complete story of the city of Belgrade, a visit to Belgrade Fortress is is practically mandatory. For much of its history, the lion's share of its population laid within the protection that its walls afforded. As Belgrade was located at the intersection point of a variety of different empires and kingdoms over the centuries, they needed all the protection they could get, as this fortification was the target of countless assaults throughout history. Starting with the Huns and the Goths, and ending with the Ottomans, the park that residents flock to whenever the weather cooperates is called Kalemegdan Park, which translates to battlefield fortress … a fitting name for such a coveted corner of the Balkans.
Learn about one of the greatest inventors in history
These days, the name Tesla is well known throughout the world, as it has been appropriated by entrepreneur Elon Musk as the name of his fleet of electrically powered luxury vehicles. Its a flattering homage to one of history's greatest inventors and innovators, whose greatest contribution to the world was the creation of the alternating current, which made the widespread electrification of the world possible. This achievement, and many others is cataloged in the Nikola Tesla Museum, which contains over 160,000 documents and records relating to his life's work.
Be humbled by one of the most massive cathedrals on the planet
After the fall of Rome in the 5th century, Serbia was situated at the western edge of the rapidly ascending Byzantine Empire. While Roman Catholicism dominated the religious life of the Western Roman Empire, the Byzantines created the Orthodox Church in the 11th century as a result of a difference of opinion with Rome over core precepts of how the faith was to be practiced. After ridding themselves of Ottoman rule following the First World War, plans for the construction of the Church of Saint Sava were drawn up, with construction beginning in 1935. While the cathedral that honors the man that led a rebellion against Ottoman rule in the 16th century is still not 100% complete after 80 years of building, the massive domes and interior arches of one of the biggest Christian churches in the world still make it well worth a visit.
Beat the mid-summer heat at Ada Ciganlija
Summers in Eastern Europe can get fiendishly hot at times, which might be cause for concern when visiting Belgrade, given its location inland. Following the locals to Ada Ciganlija will alleviate these worries though, as this river island turned peninsula is home to beaches and a shallow lake that reaches 24 degrees Celsius in August. In addition to swimming facilities and restaurants, grounds for a variety of other sports and recreational activities are also available. From basketball to chess (the locals are wizards at this game, so look out), it won't be hard to find a way to make the best of a glorious summer day in Belgrade.

The Serbian capital of Belgrade recently held its first gay pride parade in four years. The previous march in 2010 was marred by bloody clashes between anti-pride rioters and police, leaving 150 people injured.
Serbian nationalist groups amassed hundreds of their members ahead of the gay pride parade to protest LGBT rights and attempt to prevent the march. Fearing a repeat of the violence in 2010, several thousand anti-riot police and armored vehicles mobilized on the streets of the city in anticipation of this year's procession.
VICE News was in Belgrade to monitor the anti-LGBT protests and meet members of Serbia's gay community who were determined to defy the intimidation and march through the streets, regardless of the risks.

Belgrade nightlife aka a sample of the nightlife in Belgrade, Serbia. This was a week night and hip hop night; imagine a weekend with electronic? Anyways we were at Freestyler and had a great time.
Living it up at night in Belgrade
There are a number of great nightclubs to hit in Belgrade's downtown core (in particular, we recommend Community by Kasina, which is full of attractive locals in their best dress … don't show up in jeans and sandals; you WILL be denied entry), but during the summer, the place to be on a warm summer's night is on a splavovi. These are river barges that have been converted into floating bars and dance clubs, allowing its patrons to party the night away under a starlit sky. There are several excellent candidates, but Club River stands out for its attractive ambiance, as its coloured floodlights, modern décor, and its egregious regulars make having a great time here a virtual guarantee!

Video from my trip to Belgrade, Serbia in the late August - early September. Serbia was the 7th country in my trip, and Belgrade was the 11th city. If you need and advice or suggestion for your trip around the Balkans, I am always glad to help.
My favourite places in Belgrade were:
- Kalemegdan / Belgrade Fortress is a great place to walk, take a panoramic look at the city or to watch the sunset
- Zemun, Zemunski Park, Crkva Svetog Oca Nikolaja (which can be seen on the hill)
- The long pedestrian promenade from Brankov bridge to Zemun
- and multiple famous tourist sights around the city
Don't forget to write down your favourite places in Belgrade in the comments below!
music: Rachel K Collier - Squares Into Circles

Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkans. Its name translates to White city. The city proper has a population of over 2 million people.
One of the most important prehistoric cultures of Europe, the Vinča culture, evolved within the Belgrade area in the 6th millennium BC. In antiquity, Thraco-Dacians inhabited the region, and after 279 BC Celts conquered the city, naming it Singidūn. It was conquered by the Romans during the reign of Augustus, and awarded city rights in the mid 2nd century. It was settled by the Slavs in the 520s, and changed hands several times between the Byzantine Empire, Frankish Empire, Bulgarian Empire and Kingdom of Hungary before it became the capital of Serbian King Stephen Dragutin (1282--1316). In 1521, Belgrade was conquered by the Ottoman Empire and became the seat of the Sanjak of Smederevo. It frequently passed from Ottoman to Habsburg rule, which saw the destruction of most of the city during the Austro-Ottoman wars. Belgrade was again named the capital of Serbia in 1841. Northern Belgrade remained the southernmost Habsburg post until 1918, when the city was reunited. As a strategic location, the city was battled over in 115 wars and razed to the ground 44 times. Belgrade was the capital of Yugoslavia (in various forms of governments) from its creation in 1918, to its final dissolution in 2006.
Belgrade has a special administrative status within Serbia and it is one of five statistical regions of Serbia. Its metropolitan territory is divided into 17 municipalities, each with its own local council. It covers 3.6% of Serbia's territory, and 22.5% of the country's population lives in the city. The city has been awarded many titles, and the nomination for European Capital of Culture 2020.
Houseboats on Ada Ciganlija
Extreme sports are available, such as bungee jumping, water skiing, and paintballing. There are numerous tracks on the island, where it is possible to ride a bike, go for a walk, or go jogging. Apart from Ada, Belgrade has total of 16 islands on the rivers, many still unused. Among them, the Great War Island at the confluence of Sava, stands out as an oasis of unshattered wildlife (especially birds). These areas, along with nearby Small War Island, are protected by the city's government as a nature preserve. Tourist income is annually around 800 million Euros. In 2012, Belgrade visited 976.674 registered tourists. From that number 771.299 were foreign. Also more than 100.000 tourists arrive by 850 river cruisers.
Belgrade has a reputation for offering a vibrant nightlife; many clubs that are open until dawn can be found throughout the city. The most recognizable nightlife features of Belgrade are the barges (splav), spread along the banks of the Sava and Danube Rivers.
Belgrade nightlife on riverclubs.
Many weekend visitors—particularly from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia—prefer Belgrade nightlife to that of their own capitals, due to a perceived friendly atmosphere, great clubs and bars, cheap drinks, the lack of language difficulties, and the lack of restrictive night life regulation.
Famous alternative clubs include Akademija and the famed KST (Klub Studenata Tehnike), located in the basement of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Electrical Engineering. One of the most famous sites for alternative cultural happenings in the city is the SKC (Student Cultural Centre), located right across from Belgrade's highrise landmark, the Beograđanka. Concerts featuring famous local and foreign bands are often held at the center. SKC is also the site of various art exhibitions, as well as public debates and discussions.
Skadarlija, the city's old bohemian neighbourhood
A more traditional Serbian nightlife experience, accompanied by traditional music known as Starogradska (roughly translated as Old Town Music), typical of northern Serbia's urban environments, is most prominent in Skadarlija, the city's old bohemian neighborhood where the poets and artists of Belgrade gathered in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Skadar Street (the centre of Skadarlija) and the surrounding neighbourhood are lined with some of Belgrade's best and oldest traditional restaurants (called kafanas in Serbian), which date back to that period. At one end of the neighbourhood stands Belgrade's oldest beer brewery, founded in the first half of the 19th century. One of the city's oldest kafanas is the Znak pitanja.
The Times reported that Europe's best nightlife can be found in buzzing Belgrade. In the Lonely Planet "1000 Ultimate Experiences" guide of 2012, Belgrade was placed at the 1st spot among the top 10 party cities in the world.

http://www.aswetravel.com/honesty-in-beautiful-belgrade/ - Belgrade Serbia: As We Travel Europe
We’ve arrived here in Belgrade, took an overnight train from Montenegro. The train arrived three hours late. And was pretty shabby too. Pretty shabby train, but we are here at least. It’s really warm outside, so we are going to find our hostel and check in, and rest for a bit. Good Morning from Belgrade! We are going to start the day here exactly the same way the locals do; with a traditional dish called Borek. What exactly is it? It’s a special type of pastry. You can have three different types of filling. So, you can have meat, plain, or cheese, and this is a plain one. Apparently you dip it in yogurt, and you just eat it like that. Let’s taste it. It’s a bit greasy. And, after this we’re going to explore the Kalemegdan Fortress.
That’s really nice. Thats really funny, we just arrived at this fortress and I thought this was public property, that this was a place that everyone could come visit, but we’ve been here for five minutes now and there has already been two security guards who have, there’s one guy who is right behind Sophia right now. I have no idea what they want, they tried to communicate with us, and I think they’re worried that we’re some kind of journalists. I don’t know what it is but they seem really cautious about us here with the camera. It’s kind of funny, it’s kind of random. I don’t know. Look at these amazing views! We are in the middle of Belgrade, we are in the center, and we are just surrounded by nature. I didn’t expect that when I thought of Belgrade. So cool. This is where the Sava and Danube rivers meet, or like a serving girl I meet in Montenegro said, “where they kiss.” I think it’s beautiful. Kalemegdan fortress park was, for many centuries, was Belgrade. It wasn’t until quite recently that they city expanded outside the city walls. Today, it is a popular place for locals to come, hang out, play chess, and relax.
Okay, that was just, crazy. We thought before, like we said, there was a few security guards that were snooping around behind us as we were filming. But, we carried on around the fortress, and there was another guy around the corner, and another guy, and about five guys in the space of a half an hour that were following us. And finally one guy came and talked to us like you saw. He thought we had some sort of gun. I don’t know what was going on. Yeah, something about the rig that he didn’t want us to have. So he made us take down all the camera gear and then there was this old lady behind us, and all I heard was “Why you bomb us, why you bomb us english, why you bomb us?” And, what the hell? We were just…Well, then I said that I wasn’t English, I was Swedish and they just changed completely, that woman and her friend. Suddenly they were friendly again. Being friendly, laughing, talking about Sweden and, it was so strange. Crazy experience, but now we have left the fortress and we are going to go The bohemian quarter.
This is a really cute bohemian quarter. So many cafes everywhere. Let’s go and have a coffee. I think this is one of the artists that used to hang out in this bohemian area, and he seems to have a lot of girls in his lap. He’s all worn down here. It’s comfy, a good place to sit. So we found this cute little cafe along the bohemian street surrounded by flower pots and a waterfall over there, and we have ordered Serbian coffee, and the waiter brought us these Serbian treats. For free! Yea, looks really good. This whole bohemian street is so cute; the cobblestones, the buildings, these cafes. It’s really beautiful I think. After coffee we are going to go walk down the main street, and maybe do some shopping as well. We are on the main shopping street and you’ll find shops selling everything here. At the moment, you also find cows. They’ve been painted by artists together with orphans. They look really cool I think. We’re sitting here in Belgrade, it’s called Cafe Question Mark, we’ve ordered a few local dishes. And some spritzer. It’s a perfect way to end the evening here in Belgrade. We’ll see you in Macedonia
wn.com/Belgrade, Serbia As We Travel Europe
http://www.aswetravel.com/honesty-in-beautiful-belgrade/ - Belgrade Serbia: As We Travel Europe
So cool. Santiago de Chile, a city of extremes, is surrounded by the world’s longest mountain range, driest desert, largest ocean and southernmost grassy plains. The cosmopolitan South American capital has the perfect mix of both historic and ultra-modern attractions.
The lively Plaza de Armas houses the divine Metropolitan Cathedral and the National History Museum. Santa Lucía Hill is the place where the city was founded by the Spanish in the 16th-century and the Chilean Museum of pre-Colombian Art shows what life was like here before colonial rule.
La Moneda Palace is the seat of government and the place of Augusto Pinochet’s 1973 military coup. The Museum of Memory and Human Rights documents the dictator’s repressive regime.
Santiago has many city parks. Parque Bicentenario is in Vitacura, while the sculptures of Parque de las Esculturas are in Providencia. Centrally located Parque Forestal, houses the Museum of Contemporary Art. Nearby is Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho, in a former train station.
Find colorful street art, craft shops and sidewalk cafés in Bellavista. From this neighborhood, you can access Cerro San Cristóbal to look back at Santiago one more time before exploring Chile’s many natural treasures.

https://www.expedia.com/Manchester.d180010.Destination-Travel-Guides
Manchester is a city of firsts. It was the epicenter of the Industrial Revolution, the place where mankind first split the atom, and the birthplace of the modern computer.
The many chapters of Manchester’s story come together in Castlefield. Here you’ll find the remains of a Roman fort, Bridgewater Canal, and some of the mills which once generated incredible wealth for the city. In the background, Beetham Tower is a symbol of a city again on the rise.
Manchester’s crowning glory is its Town Hall, built to rival the great buildings of London. During the Industrial Revolution, Manchester’s merchants went on a spending spree, scouring the world in search of cultural treasures to fill their stately homes. Many of these treasures now reside in the Manchester Art Gallery and the Manchester Museum.
In 1653, the Chetham Library became the country’s first free public library and has been open to all ever since. Two hundred and fifty years later, one of the city’s greatest philanthropists, Enriqueta Rylands, unveiled the John Rylands Library, dedicated to the memory of her textile magnate husband.
Housed in a restored Edwardian pump house is The People’s History Museum, which celebrates those who challenged Britain’s rigid political and class systems. At the world’s oldest surviving railway station, you’ll find The Museum of Science and Industry, while the Imperial War Museum North reminds us of the human cost of warfare.
Explore the city’s musical heritage in the Northern Quarter, and check out Canal Street, which perfectly encapsulates the Mancunian ideals of tolerance and good times. Learn more about the city’s footballing history at the National Football Museum, or time your visit for a match at Old Trafford.

Romantic comedy or episodic movie? As we watch four couples in present-day Belgrade grapple with the trials and tribulations of love, the film proves to be both (and much more besides). Silvie, a chanson singer on the verge of a nervous breakdown, is escorted round the city by the young chauffeur Stefan for one day and one night. On the very day the dominatrix Melita is set to leave Belgrade with the American diplomat Brian, she discovers her slave is not the man he said he was. Orhan, a German-Turkish businessman, learns about the roots of Turkish culture in the course of an encounter with the beautiful Jagoda and vast quantities of alcohol. The Serbian policewoman Đurđa and her Croatian husband Mato choose their wedding day to reveal the lies they have told each other.
Like in a thematic travel guide the different chapters are linked, in this case by choirs who sing enchantingly sad love songs and also promote Serbia as a tourist destination. Supported by a splendid cast, director Bojan Vuletić at the same casually depicts life in contemporary Serbia, a candidate for EU accession, as promising to enrich the diversity united within the boundaries of that institution.

Come to Dubai, the ancient City of Gold, for your next vacation.
Modernity and antiquity collide in this vibrant city. Shop at the same spice market locals have been visiting for generations, then visit the stores in the Gold Souk, a jewelry-centered traditional marketplace. For a more modern shopping experience, go to the Dubai Mall, home to over 1200 stores, an underwater zoo, and KidZania®, a “city” where children can roleplay various careers.
To soak up some of the legendary Dubai sunshine, simply step outside. Take in the view of the city from the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Continue your Dubai tour by wandering through the exotic buildings and resorts, or visit some of the public beaches. If you’d like to try something a little different and don’t mind paying a small fee, you can also attend local hotel beaches even if you aren’t staying there.
You can’t finish your Dubai sightseeing without a trip into the desert itself. Ride a camel, go sandboarding, or just stand out on the dunes and marvel at the beauty of it all.

http://www.expedia.com/Buenos-Aires.d178242.Destination-Travel-Guides
Named for good sailing winds, Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina, and home to nearly a quarter of the country’s two million residents. Come for the stunning European architecture, and stay for delicious cuts of meat, the city’s zest for soccer, and, of course, the tango.
“The Paris of South America” boasts outstanding shopping and a friendly populace. A tour of Buenos Aires should cut through La Boca Harbor, where you’ll find numerous street vendors, restaurants, and street dancers willing to give you a spin. Wander down the streets to take in colorful artwork, and make a game out of asking the locals what neighborhood you should tour next. Here’s a hint: with so much to see, everyone will give you a different answer!
Some will tell you to visit San Telmo for souvenirs, patio shopping, and crumbling historical buildings. Others will suggest Puerto Madero, a refurbished shipping port that boasts a mixture of old-world glamour and modern buildings. What everyone will suggest, however, is a stop by Plaza de Mayo. There you can take in the rosy architecture of the Casa Rosada, which was made famous by Argentine First Lady Eva Peron and the musical about her life, “Evita.” Take a tour and learn about her life, from her humble beginnings to her rise to power.
Cap off your Buenos Aires sightseeing with an evening walk through Puerto Madero, where you can get a late dinner and dance until the next day arrives.
