London is famous for many things – its museums, historical buildings and cutting-edge restaurants. But one way that London stands out from all the other major cities is its theatre life. If a play makes it in London, it’s made it everywhere. The only comparable place is New York, but the theatres there don’t quite have the rich history (and the crumbling foundations!) of London theatres. The theatrical spaces in Central London cover not just the traditional “West End”, but also the South Bank area and Victoria. They range from 100-person intimate studios to huge auditoriums. Jaimie Todd, discovered his passion for set design during school and learnt a valuable lesson from his Music teacher, “nothing lasts forever.”
Jaimie has explored many innovative ways of imagining an array of sets, on occasion using tea and couscous as materials. He is proud to design sets for West End theatre productions as they, aren’t afraid to tackle the gritty subjects, that others shy away from.
This film is one of 5 that have been selected for our ‘Design in London’ open submission competition, launched back in May 2014. http://www.londondesignfestival.com/events/1000-londoners-design-london
1000 LONDONERS
This film is part of 1000 Londoners, a five-year digital project which aims to create a digital portrait of a city through 1000 of the people who identify themselves with it. The profile contains a 3 minute film that gives an insight into the life of the Londoner, as well as their personal photos of London and some answers to crucial questions about their views on London life. Over the course of the project we aim to reveal as many facets of the capital as possible, seeing city life from 1000 points of view.

Transcript:
The first show I ever did it wasn't professional,as it was at school. But it taught me quite a valuable lesson.
It had two Directors and I had a design, which
I showed one of the Directors, and me and
the Art Teacher, painted it on the back wall
of the school hall.
And then the other Director, the Music Teacher
saw it and he hated it and I had to paint
over my first ever set design.
So that's quite a good lesson, that actually,
nothing lasts for ever.
My challenge is to provide the visuals to
the work and my main tool for that is to build
a one in twenty five scale model.
And that really is the main tool for Directors,
Actors, Designers and set builders to work
from.
You can use anything, It depends on what you
need to create. I've used couscous, I've used tea.
I think the think that people don't see, back
stage in a theatre, even if its in a documentary
is the sheer detail people go to and the effort,
that is put into, even the tiniest of things.
For example if somebody is opening a letter
on stage, if you saw that letter up close,
it would be the right address for the character
and it would be written maybe even by the character.
They would actually ask the actor to write it
Ultimately it makes the actor deliver a true performance.
We try our best.
I think London is the place to be if you
want to work in theatre, obviously there is
Broadway, there are a lot of London shows,
that go to Broadway, and I still think
London is the centre for theatre.
Especially because its more varied that New
York tends to stick more to lighter things,
but we are very good here at doing more serious,
more engaging plays.
I like the camaraderie of a creative team,
when we're sitting in a theatre, at ten, eleven
o'clock at night still trying to get something
right and it is a real group effort.
Much more than any other job I think.
It's very, very...Group effort. Everyone does everything to get the show going.
And I like it when the set comes down I think,
it's very cathartic to see something torn
down and it means you're going onto the next thing.

A trip to London might as well be a trip through history. This city has long been a hub for finance, education, and culture, and is full of modern construction mixed with ancient buildings.
Your London tour must include St. Paul’s Cathedral, one of its most well-known churches. You’ll also want to see the Tower of London, the Palace of Westminster, and Westminster Abbey for exquisite examples of the city’s famous architectural landmarks. Walk or jog through numerous green spaces, among them Hyde Park and Green Park, in the center of London.
Continue your London sightseeing in the West End, where you’ll find ancient buildings converted into modern shops, restaurants, bars, and shows. You’ll find one of the largest theatre districts in the world here, and can take in a different play almost every night of the week.
For a real treat, climb aboard the London Eye, a giant, rotating Ferris wheel, and see the old and new parts of the city all at once.

You could see right up his nose and if he spat down at you, .... great participation because the audience can see you, the actors, everybody's involved in the play which makes kind of a difference from the typical West End play .... Here, you felt like you were really part of it. .... they're pretty authentic evendown to the finest detals like the original seventeenth century underwear. .... And nowadays we go and see a play but back then the most important thing was the acoustics. ....
The stage represents three different elements, ... there's a trapdoor to go underneath which represents hell.
....in the seventeenth century it had burned down twice.
So to make this thatched roof after the Great Fire of London ....

Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City, on the southern tip of Vietnam, is one of South East Asia’s emerging boom cities. Still affectionately known by many as Saigon, this is Vietnam’s largest city and its economic engine room.
Ho Chi Minh City has an irrepressible soul and an entrepreneurial energy that hums day and night. Despite almost a century of colonialism and brutal conflict, today this city is renowned for its warm hospitality, which even extends to former foes. A youthful enthusiasm flows through this city, just like the stream of scooters, motorbikes and cars that flow endlessly through its chaotic streets.
In Ho Chi Minh City, it feels as though the future has arrived… and yet the past is never far away. Wide boulevards built during the French colonial era are lined with cutting edge skyscrapers, while jasmine scented temples gently rub shoulders with chic rooftop bars
More than 9 million people call Ho Chi Minh City home and the dynamic energy of its streets is part of its charm. The city is divided into a series of numbered districts and District One is where almost all of the city’s main attractions can be found.
As the sun goes down, find yourself a seat at one of Ho Chi Minh City’s famous rooftop bars, a perfect way to soak up the buzz of the city.
Dynamic, chaotic and energizing. Ho Chi Minh city may have burst onto the world stage as a battle zone but today, there is no better destination to plug in to the pulse of 21st century Asia.

Paris, the capital of France, attracts 42 million visitors a year.
You can start your Paris tour on the metro, on foot, or with a taxi or bicycle; the city is easily navigable on all fronts. Visit the Arc de Triomphe in the center of the city and marvel at its graceful lines and commanding presence. Built between 1806 and 1836, the Arc is one of a number of historical arches and landmarks peppering Paris.
If your Paris sightseeing includes purchasing souvenirs, head to the Champs-Élysées, home of boutique shopping, numerous restaurants, and many bars, along with a theatre and other entertaining venues. Learn about culture and creativity at the Louvre, a 14th-century palace turned art museum, and check in on the Mona Lisa and her mysterious smile. Notre Dame Cathedral cannot be missed, as this imposing Gothic structure has stood since 1345.
Speaking of imposing, the Eiffel Tower is most frequently used to represent Paris. Stroll beneath it to get a good idea of its height, or travel to the top for a stunning view of the City of Light.

https://www.expedia.com/Seoul.d178308.Destination-Travel-Guides
Watch our video highlighting some of the best things to do in Seoul, but beware—it just might cause you to start planning your next Korean vacation!
Join us in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. This intriguing destination boasts an innovative, forward-thinking culture, but it’s also steeped in history. While traveling around this northwestern city, you’ll come across massive shopping complexes just on the outskirts of ancient temples and palaces.
Take a trip back in time at the Changdeokgung Palace, which was built in 1405 as one of the Five Grand Palaces established by the Joseon Dynasty. Though all the city’s palaces were burned down during the 1592 Japanese invasion, Changdeokgung was the first to be reconstructed. Venture around Injeongjeon, the throne hall, and step across the Geumcheongyo Bridge, which is considered one of the city’s oldest bridges. Deoksugung is another one of the Five Grand Palaces, and it’s unique in that it incorporates a Western-style garden. Don’t miss the other royal grounds, including Changgyeonggung Palace, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and Unhyeongung Palace.
If you’re really looking to get a sense of the more modern, Seoul tourism scene, prepare to shop ’til you drop! This city takes shopping seriously, as you can find stores and markets scattered all around town. COEX Mall is Korea’s largest underground shopping mall, while Namdaemun Market features hundreds of vendors selling almost anything you can imagine, from kimchi to kitchenware. In the mood for some late-night shopping? Discover some of the best finds in fashion at Dongdaemun Market, which is open all through the night, closing around 7 a.m.
Continue your Seoul city tour by making your way to the theaters to witness some marvelous performances. These theaters know how to put on a show–Korean martial artists, dazzling dancers, and talented musicians take the stage at the Korea House, Jeongdong Theater, and Seoul Arts Center. Next, visit the Gyeongbokgung Palace to catch the opening and closing of the royal palace gates and the royal guard changing, or check out the Bosingak daily bell-ringing ceremony.
Whether you decide to join guided Seoul tours or prefer to venture around the Korean destination on your own terms, you won’t be disappointed. From royal grounds to theater productions, the entertainment is endless. Press play on our travel guide video to get inspiration for your next trip to South Korea.

London isn't known for warm weather and beautiful, clear skies any time of the year. But don't let that stop you from visiting--just be sure to bring an umbrella. It rains the most in the fall, so skip that season if you want to keep your feet dry--but remember that English weather is unpredictable, and there's really plenty of rain year-round. Temperatures rarely reach extremes no matter what season it is, and though July and August can be muggy during the day, evenings are usually cool even in the summer. If you want a cheap trip, it's best to go in the off-season. October through March is a good time to find flight and hotel deals, though prices will spike around big holidays like Christmas. Going in the winter also means there won't be as many other tourists around, and you'll still be able to take advantage of London's world-class theatre, classical music, and shopping. But if you don't mind crowds and higher prices, many tours and popular attractions are only available during the summer months. When to go to London really depends on what you're most interested in doing while you're there.

London Travel Guide http://bit.ly/16S8LQh
Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of the Shopping Areas of London, such as Oxford Street in vicinity which is one
of the busiest shopping districts in the world and Savile Row Street where tailors visibly prepare the world's most elegant suits.
Visit the Shopping Areas of London in the United Kingdom
Oxford Street in vicinity is one of the busiest shopping districts in the world. The semicircular section of Regent Street between Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus is called the Quadrant. Numerous large department stores and famous shops buy in the street. For instance there's a world's largest toy store Hamley's but also worth mentioning are Marks & Spencer, House of Fraser, and there's Selfridges. One of the largest British Departments Stores second only to Harrods. Just a few steps from here we find ourselves on Savile Row where tailors visibly prepare the world's most elegant suits.
The easiest way to get around the 1625 kilometers of London is the underground or two best as it is popular be termed. The 11 lines are denoted by different colors with the total of 271 stops you can get just about anywhere in no time. The most common meeting place in London is the Statue of Eros in Piccadilly Square. The statue and fountains were designed by Alfred Gilbert in honor of the great humanitarian Lord Chasper. The street nearby also bears his name.
The neon advertisements which have been illuminating the Square since 1910 after the vibrancy of Piccadilly. The sub ground level Criterion Theatre was originally the music gallery of the extravagant restaurant bearing the same name. The value of the richly gilded ornamentation is said to amount to more than one million pounds. Opposite we see the famous 19th century Concert Hall, the London Pavilion which has been enveloped by Trocadéro Building. Behind the original façade lies an ultra modern shopping center complete with eateries and places of entertainment.
Trafalgar Square is named after the famous sea battle. Atop the 44 meter columns stands the statue of Admiral Nelson who prevented Napoleon's fleet from coming ashore in England. The statues of many military Commanders on Trafalgar Square seem insignificant compared to the four giant lion statues. The lions however, attained and peacefully tolerate children playing on them as well as the snapshots of tourists.
The Square is also the geographic center of London and serves as the zero kilometer point from which distances from the city are measured. Just as on Saint Mark Square in Venice here too people feed the urban pigeons. The spray from the fountains is especially refreshing in the summer heat but the place is just as full of atmosphere under a blanket of snow in the winter months when Christmas and New Year celebrations are held here.
Daniel Defoe the author of Robinson Crusoe was once set in a pillar over here for a polemic Essay he wrote on Religion. The National Gallery occupies the entire Northern side of the Square, since the mid 19th century the impressive building with it's dome in Corinthian columns has given home to one of the largest fine arts collections in the world.
