Sights & Attractions in Montreal Canada
Montreal, long Canada's largest city, is the second largest French-speaking city in the world.
Founded in the 17th century as Ville-Marie, Montreal soon developed into a large multilingual metropolis. But as tensions between French and English speaking inhabitants rose during the 20th century, businesses moved out and the city's growth came to a halt.

When Mark Twain visited Montreal in the 19th century, he was so taken by its many churches that he nicknamed it “The City of 100 Bell Towers.” These numerous buildings are often part of Montreal sightseeing; marvel at the imposing stone façade of Christ Church Cathedral, or stand beneath the great arched ceiling of the beautiful Notre Dame Basilica. You can spend days exploring the city’s many sacred spaces, but Montreal tourism is so much more than that; if you’re a foodie, you’re in luck, because the residents of Montreal adore a good meal, whether it’s poutine from a streetside bistro or fresh produce from the farmers market.
A tour of Montreal will take you across cobblestone streets and through architecture that dates back to the 1600s, but one thing you must remember to do is to walk and play in its numerous green spaces. The city’s inhabitants take great pride in Montreal’s natural beauty, and hikes up Mont Royal or along the St. Lawrence River are frequent activities for locals. Remember to bring your camera, as the riverfront and the mountain are full of striking photo opportunities.

Travel video about destination Montréal in Canada.
Canada's second largest city, Montreal is a fascinating blend of European charm and the American way of life.
In Vieux-Montreal, narrow lanes and small houses recall the past and also the lifestyle of the original settlers. In the old fire station at Place d'Youville - one of the oldest markets in Montreal -- is the Centre d'Histoire in which the 350 year cultural history of the city is on display, from the development of the Irokese Settlement, its prolific fur trade, and right up to today's shining, energetic Metropolis.
Although Montreal is located 1,600 kilometres from the open sea, it owes its wealth to its waterways which stretch from the country's interior, to the ocean. A trip on the Saint Lawrence River with the pleasure boat, BATEAU-MOUCHE, contrasts old, historic warehouses with the highly contemporary apartment block of the Cité du Havre Habitat.
Le Tour Olympique, Montreal's "Crooked Tower", offers panoramic views which extend more than 80 kilometres from its 175 metre tall viewing platform. Next to the Olympic Stadium, the Biodome, in which exotic animals from many corners of the world roam among waterfalls and tropical forests.
Next to the gleaming skyscrapers of the inner city, there are museums, churches and art galleries and in the old quarter, there are more historic buildings than in any other North American city, not forgetting the parks and the romantic harbor. Montreal is a gem!

When you arrive in Quebec, you’ll immediately notice its unique combination of old-world architecture, French elegance, and North American friendliness. Throw in a penchant for winter sports and a rich historical past, and you’ll have plenty to do in its capital, Quebec City.
The walled Upper Town is on the to-see list of most Quebec tours. This is part of the historic Old Quebec, first settled by Europeans in 1608. You’ll find a fantastic view of the St. Lawrence River, along with winding streets filled with historic buildings housing restaurants, pubs, and small shops.
Venture out into the oldest retail center on the continent and enjoy a croissant and a coffee, then go for a bike ride along the Old Port. This used to be one of the world’s largest shipping thoroughfares, though now it’s known primarily as a cruise ship destination.
If you’re in the mood to meet some of the local wildlife, head to the Quebec Aquarium, where you can see polar bears, seals, and other animals that inhabit the Arctic. Feeling like reaching great heights? Stop by Montmorency Falls, where you can hike up to an observation point and marvel at the beauty of the natural landscape.
All this walking and hiking will make you hungry, so at dusk, visit Rue St. Paul’s many restaurants to pick out the perfect place for dinner. The city is buzzing late into the night; if you’re up for dancing, a drink, or a cup of coffee after dinner, you’ll be in good company.

As part of my action plan to embrace winter while in Canada, I decided to head to Montréal, Québec for the weekend to experience a full day adventure of outdoors winter sports and local comfort foods. While wandering around outside I visited Parc Lafontaine, Mount Royal Park (Parc du Mont-Royal) and Parc Jean-Drapeau for Fête des neiges de Montréal. Although I didn't have the gear to participate - aside from walking - I witnessed others enjoying ice skating, cross country skiing, tubing, snowshoeing and dog sledding to name just a few. With temperatures (with windchill) dropping down to nearly -30 degrees Celsius, I had to bundle up with my warmest jacket, vest, toque and scarf. What saved me were the frequent stops I made for comfort food. First up, I visited La Banquise for poutine. Secondly, I checked out St-Viateur for Montreal style bagels. Last, but certainly not least, I gobbled down a delicious smoked meat sandwich from Schwartz's Deli. Overall, it was the perfect way to spend a full day in Montreal, Quebec during winter months. I hope my example itinerary will help you plan your trip to Montreal when you're considering things to do in the city and winter themed attractions worth checking out.
Things to do in Montreal Winter Travel Guide: One Day Itinerary Video Transcript
Hey guys, as part of my plan to embrace winter while being back in Canada, I'm in Montreal for the weekend. And this is the view from the guesthouse I'm staying at in the Latin Quarter area. I'm stoked about going outside. I'm going to be doing all kinds of crazy stuff today. Hopefully some dog sledding, snowshoeing and maybe some skating. I'm also going to be devouring poutine and I can't wait to show you what a cool city Montreal is in the wintertime.
It is seriously cold out today guys. I'm all bundled up but apparently with windchill it is almost minus thirty. Woo hoo!
I'm in serious need of some comfort food to warm up. It's time to head over for my morning poutine brunch. Oh, my precious - La Banquise - open twenty four seven for all your poutine needs.
Oh my, the moment I've been waiting for. Everything I expected and more. La Banquise has the best poutine in Montreal.
Woah, that seriously did not last long - pure gluttony over here.
So this is one of the more unique entrances I've ever seen towards a subway station.
Mickey Mouse is in the house.
Hey guys, my life would not be complete without a Montreal bagel.
Okay, now the million dollar question is should I go for a bagel sandwich or just go with spread on a bagel? Decisions, decisions.
Alright, it's a raisin cinnamon bagel and apple cinnamon cream cheese for the win.
Alright guys, time for the first bite. Mmmm. Amazing.
So it appears we've got some snow cricket going on over hear. It doesn't get too much more Canadian than this.
Oh. Yes, yes!
Alright, it is time to complete the trifecta of must have foods when you're in Montreal. I'm going for - of course - a smoked meat sandwich.
And when you want the best you come to Schwartz's. Seriously it pays to come here in the winter. The is the first time I've ever been here where there hasn't been a massive lineup.
Now that really hit the spot. One thing to keep in mind when eating at these popular restaurants in Montréal is that some of them are cash only. You can only pay with cash. Some allow debit card but very few take credit card.
Now it is time to burn some calories guys. It is kind of embarrassing thing for me to admit is that I consumed most of those calories within a two hour period.
I'm at Mount Royal Park right now and there are all kinds of people doing totally different types of exercises from snowshoeing to cross country skiing to skating.
So this is the reward for the long climb up Mount Royal. I'm near the top of the peak here and there is going to be some spectacular views. I just know it.
And the last stop of the day is at Fête des neiges de Montréal.
This is part of our Travel in Canada series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Canadian culture, Canadian arts, Canadian foods, Canadian religion, Canadian cuisine and Canadian people.

First-time visitors never fail to be surprised by Montreal; French-speaking with grand old buildings and a European vibe, it sits apart from other North American cities.
In fact, it really is like no other. Montreal combines old-warm charm and metropolitan energy, small-town warmth and friendliness with vibrant, cosmopolitan cool and bohemian vibes with lively, upbeat sparks. Unlike the modern sprawls sometimes associated with other Canadian urban centres, Montreal is anything but samey. In fact, its intoxicating diversity -- when it comes to ethnicity, culture, language and cuisine -- is what makes this city tick.
For gourmands, the city has plenty to offer; it claims to have the largest number of eateries per capita in North America. Food and drink are celebrated with gusto with a number of enticing culinary events throughout the year. In addition, the city's public markets are something to truly savour -- tuck into delicious regional specialities like crepes and fried squid and ubiquitous maple food products as you browse countless stalls selling tantalising treats.
When it comes to sightseeing, there's plenty to gawp at. Thanks to a relatively small downtown area and squeaky clean public transport system, tourists can explore the city safe in knowledge that they won't get lost, or indeed hassled.
Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride (calèche) along the St Laurence River in Old Montreal and amble down to the buzzing harbourfront replete with cyclists, roller-bladers, pedal boats and passers-by. Stroll to The Plateau where wrought-iron staircases, designer fashion boutiques, a thriving arts scene and snazzy nightspots pepper its funky streets. Pop over to Mile End, once the home to the city's Jewish and Italian communities, and now a cool district with quirky restaurants, cafes, shops and bars to explore. Spend some time in Downtown offering a fabulous mix of soaring skyscrapers and heritage buildings intermingled with quaint boutiques. Soak up the peaceful vibes in The Village, one of the largest gay districts in North America, where you can dine al fresco in the summer when the main drag, Sainte-Catherine Street, becomes pedestrianised. Sip a cappuccino in Little Italy, home to one of the city's best markets, the Jean-Talon Market, or escape from the urban hustle to Pôle des Rapides, a 21km-long (12 miles) recreational park just minutes from downtown where you can enjoy a lazy cruise along the locks of the Lachine Canal.
Meanwhile, Montreal is the gateway to some incredible natural surroundings -- steal away to the Laurentians for a day or weekend trip to sample its golf courses, spa hotels and tiny mountain villages. Or head south east to the Montérégie, home to orchards, vineyards and maple groves. Meanwhile, the Eastern Townships draw legions of cyclists, thanks to 500km (310 miles) of winding biking trails through unspoilt countryside and towns characterised by Victorian architecture.
Back in the city itself, plan your visit to coincide with one of the city's cultural or sporting events -- from fireworks or food, to jazz music or chamber music, international tennis or the Grand Prix, there's sure to be something on to pique your interest.

Welcome to Toronto, the largest city in Canada and a hub of trade and culture.
“The City That Works” is full of a can-do spirit that is reflected in its buildings. From the famous CN Tower to the castle-like Casa Loma, there’s all sorts of eye candy for the architecture enthusiast. Your Toronto tour should include a trip to Edward Gardens in Hyde Park, or one of the many other green spaces located in the city. Take a bike ride along the trails, or enjoy a picnic while the local chipmunks look on. Don’t drop anything; they’ll grab it.
Your Toronto sightseeing can continue at the Harborfront Center. Go for a walk along the marina, or grab a pint at a brewhouse. And no trip to Toronto is complete without a visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame, so make sure you’ve got your team paraphernalia in order before you venture inside. Looking for shopping? You’ll find the Underground City and Kensington Market ready to welcome you and your credit card – or several credit cards, as the case may be. After a day of madcap purchasing, why not stock up on fresh, healthy food at the St. Lawrence Market? You’ll have worked up quite an appetite for delicious local produce.
Before you leave, head to Niagara Falls and take in the spectacle of nature’s power. You’ll never forget the sight and sound of all that water pouring over the falls, nor will you ever forget your trip to Toronto.

Thanks to its long history Montreal boasts a large number of attractions, ranging from the historic Notre-Dame Basilica to the modern Olympic Stadium.
Underground City, St. Joseph Oratory, Mount Royal Park, Notre-Dame Basilica, Botanical Garden, Olympic Tower, Biosphere, Habitat '67, City Hall, Bonsecours Market, Square Saint-Louis, Windsor Station, Dorchester Square, Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral, Place d'Armes

Além disso atualmente estou morando no Canadá! Se inscreva no canal para mais vídeos :)

It was December 6, 1989 - the last day of classes before midterm exams at Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique. Around 4 p.m., a man entered a classroom with an assault rifle.
“He ordered the men - the students and the professors - to go on the right side of the class, and the girls on the left side,” said Adrien Cernea, one of the teachers in class at the time.
Fourteen women were shot dead in all. The gunman, Marc Lepine, then took his own life.
In its 2000-2001 season, the fifth estate conducted an investigation into Lepine’s life, and just what it was that led him to pick up a gun and attack complete strangers. But the gunman’s plans extended beyond women he had never met. Lepine also left behind a list of other women he’d planned to kill - many of them well-known in Quebec.
Francine Pelletier, host of the CBC’s fifth estate, was on that list.
Pelletier delves into Lepine’s past, speaking with his aunt, friends and roommates, and discovers factors that may have led him to act as he did. Pelletier also also sits down with relatives of Lepine's victims.
Jean-Francois Larivée lost his wife, Maryse Laganière. They’d been married only three months.
“I didn’t spend time hating him, trying to kill him in my dreams or making him pay for what he did,” Larivée told Pelletier.
“I believe that the external influence - maybe friends, his father - things happened in his life to make him very aggressive towards people, and especially women.”
More than ten years after the painful tragedy, the fifth estate takes you, along with the victims’ families, to Place du 6-Décembre-1989 - the Montreal park commemorating the 14 women killed that day
