While most people consider The Jazz Singer (1927) the first talking picture, the first full-length sound film – without dialogue but with a recorded musical soundtrack - was the 1926 Don Juan. In 1976, on the 50th anniversary of the film’s premiere, a newly-restored copy was created, with film and musical historian Miles Kreuger interviewed for the AT&T; newsmagazine, Monitor.
Don Juan premiered on August 6th, 1926, at the Warner Theater at 47th and Broadway in New York City. The movie house of the premiere was the first to be equipped with the Vitaphone projection and playback system. Don Juan itself starred John Barrymore and Mary Astor, and a very young Myrna Loy had a bit part.
Reportedly, the movie contained this bit of unusual trivia: the most women kissed onscreen by one man, Barrymore (as Don Juan): a staggering 191.

Vitaphone was a sound film system used for feature films and nearly 1,000 short subjects made by Warner Bros. and its sister studio First National from 1926 to 1931. Vitaphone was the last major analog sound-on-disc system and the only one which was widely used and commercially successful. The soundtrack was not printed on the film itself, but issued separately on phonograph records. The discs, recorded at 33 1/3 rpm (a speed first used for this system) and typically 16 inches in diameter, would be played on a turntable physically coupled to the projector motor while the film was being projected. Many early talkies, such as The Jazz Singer (1927), used the Vitaphone system. The name "Vitaphone" derived from the Latin and Greek words, respectively, for "living" and "sound".
The "Vitaphone" trademark was later associated with cartoons and other short subjects that had optical soundtracks and did not use discs...
Early history
In the early 1920s, Western Electric was developing both sound-on-film and sound-on-disc systems, aided by the purchase of Lee De Forest's Audion amplifier tube in 1913, consequent advances in public address systems, and the first practical condenser microphone, which Western Electric engineer A.C. Wente had created in 1916 and greatly improved in 1922. De Forest debuted his own Phonofilm sound-on-film system in New York City on April 15, 1923, but due to the relatively poor sound quality of Phonofilm and the impressive state-of-the-art sound heard in Western Electric's private demonstrations, the Warner Brothers decided to go forward with the industrial giant and the more familiar disc technology.
The business was established at Western Electric's Bell Laboratories in New York City and acquired by Warner Brothers in April 1925. Warner Brothers introduced Vitaphone on August 6, 1926 with the release of their silent feature Don Juan, which had been retrofitted with a symphonic musical score and sound effects. There was no spoken dialog. The feature was preceded by a program of short subjects with live-recorded sound, nearly all featuring classical instrumentalists and opera stars. The only "pop music" artist was guitarist Roy Smeck and the only actual "talkie" was the short film that opened the program: a brief spoken greeting from motion picture industry spokesman Will Hays.
Don Juan was able to draw huge sums of money at the box office, but was not able to match the expensive budget Warner Brothers put into the film's production...
...then pushed ahead with a new Vitaphone feature starring Al Jolson, the Broadway dynamo who had already scored a big hit with early Vitaphone audiences in A Plantation Act, a musical short released on October 7, 1926. On October 6, 1927, The Jazz Singer premiered at the Warner Theater in New York City, broke box-office records, established Warner Brothers as a major player in Hollywood, and is traditionally credited with single-handedly launching the talkie revolution...
A Vitaphone-equipped theater had normal projectors which had been furnished with special phonograph turntables and pickups; a fader; an amplifier; and a loudspeaker system. The projectors operated just as motorized silent projectors did, but at a fixed speed of 24 frames per second and mechanically interlocked with the attached turntables. When each projector was threaded, the projectionist would align a start mark on the film with the film gate, then cue up the corresponding soundtrack disc on the turntable, being careful to place the phonograph needle at a point indicated by an arrow scribed on the record's surface. When the projector was started, it rotated the linked turntable and (in theory) automatically kept the record "in sync" (correctly synchronized) with the projected image.

If there was one thing that Don Juan de Marana learned from his father Don Jose, it was that women gave you three things - life, disillusionment and death. In his father's case it was his wife, Donna Isobel, and Donna Elvira who supplied the latter. Don Juan settled in Rome after attending the University of Pisa. Rome was run by the tyrannical Borgia family consisting of Caesar, Lucrezia and their evil cousin Count Donati.
Juan has his way with and was pursued by many women, but it is the one that he could not have that haunts him. It will be for her that he suffers the wrath of Borgia for ignoring Lucrezia and then killing Count Donati in a duel. For Adriana, they will both be condemned to death in the prison on the river Tiber.

Plot: Shedding Skin follows the struggles of Jack, a gifted poker player and suicidally depressed young man. Jack is lost. Jack is depressed. Jack tries to kill himself. But for a number of reasons, some clear, some not, he's unsuccessful. In an attempt to cheer him up Jack's two best friends lead him on a drug-addled journey through poker rooms, clubs, house parties and even the courtyard of a local Church, but when that leads nowhere he turns to the advice of two unlikely gurus. Told in a somewhat circular, non-linear fashion meant to mirror Jack's interior life, the film superimposes the philosophy of Albert Camus and Zen Buddhism in the form of the counseling Jack receives from the gurus as he searches for some purpose to define his life. When Jack meets Sera, things seem to be looking up. But just as Jack finally finds a positive outlet for his energy and the film reaches its climax, he begins to question Sera's intentions.

Historian Miles Kreuger on Don Juan’s 50th anniversary, the 1st Vitaphone feature film with sound
While most people consider The Jazz Singer (1927) the first talking picture, the first full-length sound film – without dialogue but with a recorded musical soundtrack - was the 1926 Don Juan. In 1976, on the 50th anniversary of the film’s premiere, a newly-restored copy was created, with film and musical historian Miles Kreuger interviewed for the AT&T; newsmagazine, Monitor. Don Juan premiered on August 6th, 1926, at the Warner Theater at 47th and Broadway in New York City. The movie house of the premiere was the first to be equipped with the Vitaphone projection and playback system. Don Juan itself starred John Barrymore and Mary Astor, and a very young Myrna Loy had a bit part. Reportedly, the movie contained this bit of unusual trivia: the most women kissed onscreen by one man, Barrymore (as Don Juan): a staggering 191. The "Vitaphone" trademark was later associated with cartoons and other short subjects that had optical soundtracks and did not use discs... Early history In the early 1920s, Western Electric was developing both sound-on-film and sound-on-disc systems, aided by the purchase of Lee De Forest's Audion amplifier tube in 1913, consequent advances in public address systems, and the first practical condenser microphone, which Western Electric engineer A.C. Wente had created in 1916 and greatly improved in 1922. De Forest debuted his own Phonofilm sound-on-film system in New York City on April 15, 1923, but due to the relatively poor sound quality of Phonofilm and the impressive state-of-the-art sound heard in Western Electric's private demonstrations, the Warner Brothers decided to go forward with the industrial giant and the more familiar disc technology. The business was established at Western Electric's Bell Laboratories in New York City and acquired by Warner Brothers in April 1925. Warner Brothers introduced Vitaphone on August 6, 1926 with the release of their silent feature Don Juan, which had been retrofitted with a symphonic musical score and sound effects. There was no spoken dialog. The feature was preceded by a program of short subjects with live-recorded sound, nearly all featuring classical instrumentalists and opera stars. The only "pop music" artist was guitarist Roy Smeck and the only actual "talkie" was the short film that opened the program: a brief spoken greeting from motion picture industry spokesman Will Hays. Don Juan was able to draw huge sums of money at the box office, but was not able to match the expensive budget Warner Brothers put into the film's production... ...then pushed ahead with a new Vitaphone feature starring Al Jolson, the Broadway dynamo who had already scored a big hit with early Vitaphone audiences in A Plantation Act, a musical short released on October 7, 1926. On October 6, 1927, The Jazz Singer premiered at the Warner Theater in New York City, broke box-office records, established Warner Brothers as a major player in Hollywood, and is traditionally credited with single-handedly launching the talkie revolution... A Vitaphone-equipped theater had normal projectors which had been furnished with special phonograph turntables and pickups; a fader; an amplifier; and a loudspeaker system. The projectors operated just as motorized silent projectors did, but at a fixed speed of 24 frames per second and mechanically interlocked with the attached turntables. When each projector was threaded, the projectionist would align a start mark on the film with the film gate, then cue up the corresponding soundtrack disc on the turntable, being careful to place the phonograph needle at a point indicated by an arrow scribed on the record's surface. When the projector was started, it rotated the linked turntable and (in theory) automatically kept the record "in sync" (correctly synchronized) with the projected image. While most people consider The Jazz Singer (1927) the first talking picture, the first full-length sound film – without dialogue but with a recorded musical soundtrack - was the 1926 Don Juan. In 1976, on the 50th anniversary of the film’s premiere, a newly-restored copy was created, with film and musical historian Miles Kreuger interviewed for the AT&T; newsmagazine, Monitor.
Don Juan premiered on August 6th, 1926, at the Warner Theater at 47th and Broadway in New York City. The movie house of the premiere was the first to be equipped with the Vitaphone projection and playback system. Don Juan itself starred John Barrymore and Mary Astor, and a very young Myrna Loy had a bit part.
Reportedly, the movie contained this bit of unusual trivia: the most women kissed onscreen by one man, Barrymore (as Don Juan): a staggering 191.

The business was established at Western Electric's Bell Laboratories in New York City and acquired by Warner Brothers in April 1925. Warner Brothers introduced Vitaphone on August 6, 1926 with the release of their silent feature Don Juan, which had been retrofitted with a symphonic musical score and sound effects. There was no spoken dialog. The feature was preceded by a program of short subjects with live-recorded sound, nearly all featuring classical instrumentalists and opera stars. The only "pop music" artist was guitarist Roy Smeck and the only actual "talkie" was the short film that opened the program: a brief spoken greeting from motion picture industry spokesman Will Hays.
Don Juan was able to draw huge sums of money at the box office, but was not able to match the expensive budget Warner Brothers put into the film's production...

On October 6, 1927, The Jazz Singer premiered at the Warner Theater in New York City, broke box-office records, established Warner Brothers as a major player in Hollywood, and is traditionally credited with single-handedly launching the talkie revolution...
A Vitaphone-equipped theater had normal projectors which had been furnished with special phonograph turntables and pickups; a fader; an amplifier; and a loudspeaker system. The projectors operated just as motorized silent projectors did, but at a fixed speed of 24 frames per second and mechanically interlocked with the attached turntables. When each projector was threaded, the projectionist would align a start mark on the film with the film gate, then cue up the corresponding soundtrack disc on the turntable, being careful to place the phonograph needle at a point indicated by an arrow scribed on the record's surface. When the projector was started, it rotated the linked turntable and (in theory) automatically kept the record "in sync" (correctly synchronized) with the projected image.
The Vitaphone process made several improvements over previous systems:

Barrymore was never called in as the Thaw trial was decided based on insanity plea and Nesbit's morality being irrelevant to Thaw's murdering Stanford White. Barrymore and Nesbit were never questioned under oath about her "immorality," or, as stated in the prepared deposition, that he had taken her to a doctor for an "appendectomy"

He first gained attention as a handsome stage actor in light comedy, then high drama and culminating in his portrayals in Shakespearean plays Hamlet and Richard III. His success continued with motion pictures in various genres in both the silent and sound eras. Barrymore's personal life has been the subject of much writing before and since his death in 1942. Today John Barrymore is known mostly for his portrayal of Hamlet and for his roles in movies like Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde (1920), Grand Hotel (1932), Dinner at Eight (1933), Twentieth Century (1934), and Don Juan (1926), the first feature length movie to use a Vitaphone soundtrack. Convém ao homem tornar-se emocionalmente independente das influências femininas para não perder o controle sobre si mesmo.

O sentimentalismo prejudica a relação.
Os homens são atrasados em inteligência emocional.
A inteligência emocional da mulher pode inutilizar o intelecto do homem.
Brigar e polemizar é uma perda de tempo.
Assediar, correr atrás, perseguir, proibir e pressionar são perdas de tempo.
Não é conveniente tentar obrigar as mulheres a deixarem de ser emotivas.
Não é conveniente dar o “ultimatum”1 a uma mulher pela qual ainda tenhamos resíduos de paixão amorosa.
Não devemos nutrir sentimentalismos negativos de nenhuma espécie (rancor, vingança, ressentimento etc.).

Don Juan Tenorio está compuesto de dos partes, la primera (una noche del carnaval de 1541) consta de cuatro actos y la segunda (una noche de 1546), de tres. La primera parte es una mezcla de comedia de capa y espada y de drama romántico. El primer y segundo actos se centran en el libertino, el burlador (la rendición de cuentas de la antigua apuesta y el cerco a Doña Ana). Los subtítulos que da Zorrilla a sus actos son significativos: "Libertinaje y Escándalo" y "Destreza". El tercero y el cuarto ("Profanación" y "El Diablo a las puertas del cielo") más que del seductor -lo cual añade connotaciones del libertino-, giran alrededor del seductor seducido, del descubrimiento del amor y la frustración de no poder alcanzarlo. La segunda parte entra de lleno en el género de la "comedia de magia", del drama religioso romántico. Argumentalmente sustentada sobre el tema del "convidado", sus tres actos ("La sombra de doña Inés", "La estatua de don Gonzalo" y "Misericordia de Dios y apoteosis del Amor") tratan sobre la muerte y salvación del protagonista, ya no un libertino ni un amante sino un rebelde contra la divinidad de la que se cree despreciado. Uno de los elementos más constantes sobre los que se fundamenta el tiempo dramático de la acción es la reiteración de la noción de apuesta y plazo: Hasta la escena XII del primer acto se vive el suspenso del plazo de una apuesta hecha un año antes. En esa misma escena, se realiza una nueva apuesta para la que se da un plazo de seis días, pero que todo el mundo entiende que es de cumplimiento inmediato. La segunda parte, se inicia con el plazo general de una noche para que concluya la apuesta de doña Inés con Dios, que además se entrecruza con los pequeños plazos que suponen las dos invitaciones a cenar. Los personajes representan sectores acomodados nobleza, clero, órdenes de caballería con sus costumbres y lenguaje propio de Sevilla. El personaje de Don Juan Don Juan es un personaje literario, de raíces bíblicas, un personaje que es parte de un mito popular hispánico que representa algo de la cultura medieval. Es un hombre aficionado a las mujeres, sin distinción. "Por donde quiera que fui, la razón atropellé, la virtud escarnecí, a la justicia burlé y a las mujeres vendí. Yo a las cabañas bajé Yo a los palacios subí, Yo los claustros escalé Y en todas partes dejé Memoria amarga de mí." Está representado por un noble sevillano mujeriego. Su criado es un villano, vive en la ciudad. El personaje femenino lo constituye Doña Inés, a quien con engaños, conquista. Don Juan es cínico, burlón, carece de escrúpulos para con las mujeres. Junto a él, hay un elemento cómplice, que se traduce en un deseo de inautenticidad, haciendo de él un hombre irreflexivo. Junto a estos, está el padre burlado, y los hombres asesinados por él en escaramuzas, es decir, Don Gonzalo y Luis Ulloa este último es el padre de Doña Inés que vuelve después de ser asesinado tras la invitación que el propio Don Juan le hiciere a cenar después de muerto, a modo de burla y desafío. En Don Juan encontramos un miedo a la muerte; el tiempo no pasa por él, aspira inconscientemente a la inmortalidad. Con esto también encontramos la idea de la intemporalidad. En "Don Juan Tenorio" se salva don Juan, quien se redime por el amor (idea romanticista), a diferencia del don Juan de Tirso de Molina, quien muere condenado por sus pecados. -

Don Juan Tenorio está compuesto de dos partes, la primera (una noche del carnaval de 1541) consta de cuatro actos y la segunda (una noche de 1546), de tres. La primera parte es una mezcla de comedia de capa y espada y de drama romántico. El primer y segundo actos se centran en el libertino, el burlador (la rendición de cuentas de la antigua apuesta y el cerco a Doña Ana). Los subtítulos que da Zorrilla a sus actos son significativos: "Libertinaje y Escándalo" y "Destreza".
El tercero y el cuarto ("Profanación" y "El Diablo a las puertas del cielo") más que del seductor -lo cual añade connotaciones del libertino-, giran alrededor del seductor seducido, del descubrimiento del amor y la frustración de no poder alcanzarlo.
La segunda parte entra de lleno en el género de la "comedia de magia", del drama religioso romántico. Argumentalmente sustentada sobre el tema del "convidado", sus tres actos ("La sombra de doña Inés", "La estatua de don Gonzalo" y "Misericordia de Dios y apoteosis del Amor") tratan sobre la muerte y salvación del protagonista, ya no un libertino ni un amante sino un rebelde contra la divinidad de la que se cree despreciado.
Uno de los elementos más constantes sobre los que se fundamenta el tiempo dramático de la acción es la reiteración de la noción de apuesta y plazo: Hasta la escena XII del primer acto se vive el suspenso del plazo de una apuesta hecha un año antes. En esa misma escena, se realiza una nueva apuesta para la que se da un plazo de seis días, pero que todo el mundo entiende que es de cumplimiento inmediato. La segunda parte, se inicia con el plazo general de una noche para que concluya la apuesta de doña Inés con Dios, que además se entrecruza con los pequeños plazos que suponen las dos invitaciones a cenar.
Los personajes representan sectores acomodados nobleza, clero, órdenes de caballería con sus costumbres y lenguaje propio de Sevilla.
El personaje de Don Juan
Don Juan es un personaje literario, de raíces bíblicas, un personaje que es parte de un mito popular hispánico que representa algo de la cultura medieval. Es un hombre aficionado a las mujeres, sin distinción.
"Por donde quiera que fui,
la razón atropellé,
la virtud escarnecí,
a la justicia burlé
y a las mujeres vendí.
Yo a las cabañas bajé
Yo a los palacios subí,
Yo los claustros escalé
Y en todas partes dejé
Memoria amarga de mí."
Está representado por un noble sevillano mujeriego. Su criado es un villano, vive en la ciudad. El personaje femenino lo constituye Doña Inés, a quien con engaños, conquista. Don Juan es cínico, burlón, carece de escrúpulos para con las mujeres. Junto a él, hay un elemento cómplice, que se traduce en un deseo de inautenticidad, haciendo de él un hombre irreflexivo. Junto a estos, está el padre burlado, y los hombres asesinados por él en escaramuzas, es decir, Don Gonzalo y Luis Ulloa este último es el padre de Doña Inés que vuelve después de ser asesinado tras la invitación que el propio Don Juan le hiciere a cenar después de muerto, a modo de burla y desafío. En Don Juan encontramos un miedo a la muerte; el tiempo no pasa por él, aspira inconscientemente a la inmortalidad. Con esto también encontramos la idea de la intemporalidad.
En "Don Juan Tenorio" se salva don Juan, quien se redime por el amor (idea romanticista), a diferencia del don Juan de Tirso de Molina, quien muere condenado por sus pecados.
