Throughout the history of Islam, says journalist Bobby Ghosh, there have been two sides to jihad: one, internal, a personal struggle to be better, the other external. A small minority (most recently Osama bin Laden) has appropriated the second, using it as an excuse for deadly global violence against "the West." Aparisim "Bobby" Ghosh is a journalist and TIME Magazine's World Editor. An Indian national, he is the first non-American to be named World Editor in TIME's more than 80 years. He has previously been TIME's Baghdad bureau chief, and one of the longest-serving correspondents in Iraq. He has written stories from other conflict areas, like Palestine and Kashmir. He has also worked for Time Asia and Time Europe and has covered subjects as varied as technology and soccer, business and social trends. His Baghdad journalism has included profiles of suicide bombers and other terrorists, stories about extraordinary Iraqis and also political figures.
Author of provocative Time magazine article related to the cover "Is America Islamophobic?" mildly titled [ "Does America Have a Muslim Problem?" http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2011798,00.html] in Edition: U.S. Vol. 176 No. 9, dated August 30, 2010 when US attention to the building of a mosque near Ground Zero lead the news.

Aparisim "Bobby" Ghosh is Time magazine's new World editor, the first non-American to hold that position. He was until recently Time's bureau chief in Baghdad, where he spent 4½ years covering the Iraq war.
Ghosh has been with Time since 1998, and in addition to reporting from Baghdad, he has been assigned to Hong Kong and London. He now works from Time's New York City headquarters. Some of his most notable journalism has been in conflict zones: Iraq, Palestine and Kashmir.
