The physical settings of Satara shows a contrast of immense dimensions and reveals a variety of landscapes influenced by relief,climate and vegetation. The variation in relief ranges from the pinnacles and high plateaus of main Sahyadrians range having height over 4500 feet above mean sea level to the subdued basin of the Nira river in Phaltan tahasils with the average height of about 1700 feet above mean sea level. The climate ranges from the rainiest in the Mahabaleshwar region, which has an average annual all of over 6000 mm to the driest in Man tahsil where the average annual rainfall is about 500 mm. The vegetal cover too varies from the typical monsoon forest in the western parts to scrub and poor grass in the eastern parts.
The famous tourist points near Satara City are Vajrai Waterfall, Ajinkyatara Fort, Sajjangad Fort, Chaarbhinti, Natraj Mandir, Bhairoba Hill, Kuraneshwar, Jaradndeshwar, Yawateshwar, Kas Lake and Kas Plateau, Bamnoli, Thosegar Waterfalls, Chalkewadi, Rajwada, Sangam Mahuli, Kshetra Mahuli, Pateshwar, Gojegaon, Narayan Maharaj Math, Shembdi Vaghali and Bamnoli.

The Limb village is located at 103 km from Pune on National Highway 4 (Pune-Satara Highway).
12 motechi vihir is ancient step build by Shrimant Virubai Bhosale, during 1641-1646.It is 110 feet deep and diameter is approx 50 feet.There are two connected structures.One is Octahedron in shape and other one is rectangular. Overall shape of this well resembles to 'Shiv-linga' (an abstract or iconic representation of the Hindu deity, Shiva).
It looks partially like palace.

Satara District is a district of Maharashtra state in western India with an area of 10,480 km² and a population of 3,003,741 of which 14.17% were urban (as of 2011).Satara is the capital of the district and other major towns include Wai, Karad, Koregaon, Koynanagar, Rahimatpur, Phaltan, Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani. This district comes under Pune Administrative Division along with Pune, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur. The district of Pune bounds it to the north, Raigad bounds it to the North-West, Solapur the east, Sangli to the south, and Ratnagiri to the west.

pronunciation is a city located in the Satara District of Maharashtra state of India. The city is 2320 ft. above sea-level, near the confluence of the river Krishna and its tributary river Venna. The city was established in the 16th century and was the seat of Raja of Satara. This city is the headquarters of Satara Tahsil, as well as Satara District.
History
Medieval
The first Muslim invasion of the Deccan took place in 1296. In 1636 the Nizam Shahi dynasty came to an end. In 1663 Shivaji conquered Parali and Satara fort. After death of Shivaji, Shahu Shivaji, Heir Apparent to Maratha Kingdom, captured by Mughals when he was only seven years old, remained their prisoner till the death of his father in 1700. The Dowager Maharani Tarabai proclaimed his younger half-brother, and her son, Shahu Sambhaji as Chhatrapati Maharaj under her regency. Mughals released Shahu with some conditions in 1707, so that Marathas would face an internal war for the throne. Shahu returned to Maratha empire and claimed his inheritance. Aurangzeb's son Muhammad Azam Shah conquered Satara fort (Ajinkyatara) after a 6-month siege, later won by Parshuram Pratinidhi in 1706. In 1708 Chattrapati Shahu, the son of Chhatrapati Sambhaji, was crowned on the Satara fort. The direct descendents of Raja Shivaji continue to live in Satara. Udayanraje Bhonsle is the 13th descendent of Shivaji Maharaj.Dundle is the Sardar Of Chhatrpati Shivaji Maharaj.

Maharashtra is the second most urbanised state in India, after Tamil Nadu, with large cities besides the capital Mumbai such as Pune, Nagpur, Nashik and Aurangabad.

12 Bara Mota chi Vihir (बारा मोटेची विहीर ) Limb Satara The Limb village is located at 103 km from Pune on National Highway 4 (Pune-Satara Highway). 12 motechi vihir is ancient step build by Shrimant Virubai Bhosale, during 1641-1646.It is 110 feet deep and diameter is approx 50 feet.There are two connected structures.One is Octahedron in shape and other one is rectangular. Overall shape of this well resembles to 'Shiv-linga' (an abstract or iconic representation of the Hindu deity, Shiva). It looks partially like palace. Ajinkyatara (मराठी:अजिंक्यतारा) ( meaning "The Impregnable Star") is a fort on one of the seven mountains surrounding the city of Satara in the Sahayadri Mountains of Maharashtra, India. It is a 16th-century fort that was called "Ajimtara" during Aurangzeb regime and was based on Aurangzeb son's name, Ajim. Marathi novelist Narayan Hari Apte named the fort "Ajinkyatara", when he wrote his very first novel on the same name (first published in 1909- Ref: His interview published in marathi Pratishthan Monthly in December 1970 issue). Now also holds the television tower for the city of Satara. This fort has been the place where several pivotal moments in Maratha history took place. The fort is located at Ajinkyatara Mountain, which is 3,300 feet high. As the fort is in the higher altitude, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the entire Satara city. In 1708, Shahu Maharaj won Ajinkyatara, which remained with the Marathas till 1818. The Ajinkyatara fort is a major historic place of Maharashtra, and was very vital as one could keep watch over the entire South Maharashtra. One can easily reach Ajinkyatara by road, train or plane. By road – It is 2 hours from Pune, 4 hours from Mumbai and 3 hours from Kolhapur. By train – Nearest station is Satara Road, and major station is Pune. By plane – Nearest airport is Pune, and nearest international airport is Mumbai. Bara Motechi Vihir (Historic Well) near Limb - Satara - Built in 1646 by Shahu Maharaj and Virubhai Bhosale. The well is octogonal in shape and was built to look like dug-out shivling. It is 110 ft deep and 50 foot in diameter. This historic well was said to provide water a huge amrai (Mango plantation) with its 12 moats. There are four sculptures of tigers on the inner side of octogonal well. The staircase leads to the grand entrance arch below the ground level. Two secret ways from second arch leads to Mahal/gallery. The gallery is open both sides, one inside the well and second towards main entrance. Above the Mahal/Gallaries place of Throne is situated. -

The climate ranges from the rainiest in the Mahabaleshwar region, which has an average annual all of over 6000 mm to the driest in Man tahsil where the average annual rainfall is about 500 mm. The vegetal cover too varies from the typical monsoon forest in the western parts to scrub and poor grass in the eastern parts.

Satara is a town located in the Satara District of Maharashtra state of India. The town is 2320 ft. above sea-level, near the confluence of the Krishna and its tributary river Venna. The variation in relief ranges from the pinnacles and high plateaus of main Sahyadrians range having height over 4500 feet above mean sea level to the subdued basin of the Nira river in Phaltan tahasils with the average height of about 1700 feet above mean sea level. The climate ranges from the rainiest in the Mahabaleshwar region, which has an average annual all of over 6000 mm to the driest in Man tahsil where the average annual rainfall is about 500 mm. The vegetal cover too varies from the typical monsoon forest in the western parts to scrub and poor grass in the eastern parts.

Overall shape of this well resembles to 'Shiv-linga' (an abstract or iconic representation of the Hindu deity, Shiva).

Ajinkyatara (मराठी:अजिंक्यतारा) ( meaning "The Impregnable Star") is a fort on one of the seven mountains surrounding the city of Satara in the Sahayadri Mountains of Maharashtra, India. It is a 16th-century fort that was called "Ajimtara" during Aurangzeb regime and was based on Aurangzeb son's name, Ajim. Marathi novelist Narayan Hari Apte named the fort "Ajinkyatara", when he wrote his very first novel on the same name (first published in 1909- Ref: His interview published in marathi Pratishthan Monthly in December 1970 issue). Now also holds the television tower for the city of Satara. This fort has been the place where several pivotal moments in Maratha history took place.
The fort is located at Ajinkyatara Mountain, which is 3,300 feet high. As the fort is in the higher altitude, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the entire Satara city.
In 1708, Shahu Maharaj won Ajinkyatara, which remained with the Marathas till 1818. The Ajinkyatara fort is a major historic place of Maharashtra, and was very vital as one could keep watch over the entire South Maharashtra.
One can easily reach Ajinkyatara by road, train or plane.
By road – It is 2 hours from Pune, 4 hours from Mumbai and 3 hours from Kolhapur.
By train – Nearest station is Satara Road, and major station is Pune.
By plane – Nearest airport is Pune, and nearest international airport is Mumbai.
Bara Motechi Vihir (Historic Well) near Limb - Satara - Built in 1646 by Shahu Maharaj and Virubhai Bhosale. The well is octogonal in shape and was built to look like dug-out shivling. It is 110 ft deep and 50 foot in diameter. This historic well was said to provide water a huge amrai (Mango plantation) with its 12 moats. There are four sculptures of tigers on the inner side of octogonal well. The staircase leads to the grand entrance arch below the ground level. Two secret ways from second arch leads to Mahal/gallery. The gallery is open both sides, one inside the well and second towards main entrance. Above the Mahal/Gallaries place of Throne is situated.

It is a hill station located in the Western Ghats range. With one of the few evergreen forests of India, it served as the summer capital of Bombay province during the British Raj.
Mahabaleshwar is located at 17.9237°N 73.6586°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 1,353 metres (4,439 ft).
Located about 120 km (75 mi) southwest of Pune and 285 km (177 mi) from Mumbai, Mahabaleshwar is a vast plateau measuring 150 km2 (58 sq mi), bound by valleys on all sides. It reaches a height of 1,439 m (4,721 ft) at its highest peak above sea level, known as Wilson/Sunrise Point.
Mahabaleshwar comprises three villages: Malcolm Peth, Old "Kshetra" Mahabaleshwar and part of the Shindola village.
Mahabaleshwar is the source of the Krishna River that flows across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The legendary source of the river is a spout from the mouth of a statue of a cow in the ancient temple of Mahadev in Old Mahabaleshwar. Legend has it that Krishna is Lord Vishnu himself as a result of a curse on the trimurtis by Savitri. Also, its tributaries Venna and Koyna are said to be Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma themselves. An interesting thing to notice is that 4 other rivers come out from the cow's mouth apart from Krishna and they all travel some distance before merging into Krishna. These rivers are the Koyna, Venna (Veni), Savitri, and Gayatri.
Climate of the area is suitable for cultivation of strawberries, Mahabaleshwar strawberry contributes to about 85 percent of the total strawberry production in the country. It also received the geographical indication (GI) tag in 2010

The roaring River Pravara descends down from a height of 170 ft into a beautiful gorge.
However the waterfalls looks magnificent only during monsoons
Sandhan Vally Located 25 km from Bhandardara, behind Samrad village.
Wilson Dam on the Pravara River, which was built in 1910.
The scenic Umbrella Falls can only be seen in monsoon.
(best season to visit is during the monsoons
between July and October.)

An iron-smelting furnace belonging to the megalithic period was found at Naikund providing important clues to understand the material culture of the megalithic period.

A large castle placed in the Satara district of Maharashtra, the Pratapgad Fort is a very important site as the legendary Battle of Pratapgad was fought here. Now a popular vacationer destination, the Pratapgad Fort is placed 22 km from Mahabaleshwar at 1,080 meters above sea level. Built at such a location, the fort oversees the roads connecting the villages of Par and Kinesvar.
As per the historians, the Maratha king Shivaji Maharaj had commissioned Moropant Trimbak Pingle, his then prime minister, to commence the building of this fort for the purpose of defending Nira and the Koyna rivers’ banks, and also to guard the Par pass. Finally the construction of the fortress was finished in 1656. Also, the Battle of Pratapgad was fought between Shivaji and Afzal Khan on November 10, 1659 below the unbridled area of this fort. This was certainly the first most important test of the fledgling kingdom's defense force, and it laid the foundation brick for the rise of the Maratha Empire.
Pratapgad Fort is divided into 2 parts namely the lower fort and upper fort. The upper fort was constructed upon the crest of a hill and is approximately 180 m long on each of its sides having numerous permanent edifices. There is a shrine of Lord Mahadev, positioned towards the northwest portion of the fort, bordered by cliffs of height above 250 m. On the other hand, the lower fort is sited at the southeast end of the fort, being defended by tall towers and strongholds which are 10-12 meter high.

Finally the construction of the fortress was finished in 1656. Also, the Battle of Pratapgad was fought between Shivaji and Afzal Khan on November 10, 1659 below the unbridled area of this fort. This was certainly the first most important test of the fledgling kingdom's defense force, and it laid the foundation brick for the rise of the Maratha Empire.
Pratapgad Fort is divided into 2 parts namely the lower fort and upper fort. The upper fort was constructed upon the crest of a hill and is approximately 180 m long on each of its sides having numerous permanent edifices. There is a shrine of Lord Mahadev, positioned towards the northwest portion of the fort, bordered by cliffs of height above 250 m. On the other hand, the lower fort is sited at the southeast end of the fort, being defended by tall towers and strongholds which are 10-12 meter high.

Scenic Panchgani was discovered by the British during the British Raj as a summer resort, and a superintendent named John Chesson was placed in charge of the hill station in the 1860s. He is credited with planting many plant species from the western world in Panchgani, including silver oak and poinsettia, which have flourished since then in Panchgani. Mahabaleshwar was the summer resort of choice for the British, but it was uninhabitable during the monsoons. Panchgani was developed as a retirement place for the British because it remained pleasant throughout the year. John Chesson was deputed to find a suitable place. He surveyed the hills in this region in the company of one Mr Rustomji Dubash, (Grandfather of Kashmira, Afriz, Xerxes and Rustom Dubash), and finally decided on this nameless area in the vicinity of the five villages:Dhandeghar, Godavli, Amral, Khingar, and Taighat. The place was aptly named Panchgani, and Chesson was made Superintendent. To develop the infrastructure, Chesson encouraged various professionals - tailors, dhobis, butchers,vegetable vendors, building contractors etc. to also settle in Panchgani. The area below the bazaar was allotted to them, and is known as the gaothan. Chesson is buried in the graveyard of St. Peter's Church. In 1971 or '72, his death centenary was observed in a big way when for the first time, the town folk and the schools participated together in a ceremony to remember the founder of Panchgani.
Panchgani is nestled at middle of five hills in the Sahyādri mountain ranges,also there are five villages around the Pachgani are Dandeghar,Khingar,Godwali, Amral & Taighat .The Krishnā River flows nearby which made the lake of Dhom Dam on the Krishna 9 K.M. from Wai. BOUNDARIES:- Panchgani is situated about 285 km, 100 km 18 km,45 km & 10 respectively, from Mumbai, Pune Mahābāleshwar Satara & Wai. The east of the Pachgani is Wai, Bavdhan & Nage....

We do not know how powerful and thoughtful this unknown energy is. The silent working of awareness is so automatic, minute, dynamic, and precious that we take it for granted. After Self-realization, this energy appears to us as silent throbbing vibrations flowing through our being. But we have been unable to achieve Self-realization because we cannot fix our attention on something that lacks form (abstract Being). Instead, our attention wanders outside on forms.

The West Greeley Conservation District hosted its 69th annual dinner and meeting Thursday night at Island Grove Regional Park. According to a news release from Kristi Helzer, spokeswoman for the district, more than 200 people attended the event, and the district presented three awards to attendees ...
