The beauty of the nature of Tobago once inspired Daniel Defoe to let his famous castaway Robinson Crusoe land there. The island appeared to the hero as a planted Garden of Eden, and it is still impressive today. "Main Rich Forest Reserve" is the earliest preserved virgin rainforest in the western hemisphere (since 1776).
Arawak people were the first settlers on the island. Later the Caribs came from South America. The name Chistopher Columbus gave the island in 1498 was Bellaforma, later it became the name Tobago from Tobacco, which was growm on the island. Tobago was colonised by the British Empire. With the colonization different plants come to the island, such as cocoa and sugar cane. Plantations of these plants were driven with the labour force of slaves until the abolishment of slavery in 1833.
The island state Trinidad and Tobago belongs geographycally to South America, because of its nature. At the end of the last ice age melting glaciers caused the sea level to raise turning Trinidad and Tobago into islands.
Ian Flemming was inspired by the book "Birds of the West Indies", written by the ornithologist james Bond, who made his research on Tobago and gave its name to the very famous protagonist of his romans: the British secret agent, Commander James Bond.
The documentation shows also the different fishing methods of the tobagonians. Some still fish in a very traditional manner by throwing the fishing nets into the sea and pull them back on the beach. The locals sell the fish at the market in Scarborough.
"Liming" ist the tobagonian art of doing nothing. People get together, drink and play cards. And of course music plays an important role on the village. Every Sunday is Sunday school, a huge street party featuring bands playing the steelpan.

Tobago (
/təˈbeɪɡoʊ/) is the smaller of the two main islands that make up the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. It is located in the southern Caribbean, northeast of the island of Trinidad and southeast of Grenada. The island lies outside the hurricane belt. According to the earliest English-language source cited in the Oxford English Dictionary, Tobago bore a name that has become the English word tobacco.
Tobago has a land area of 300 km² (116 mi²), and is approximately 42 km (26 mi) long and 10 km (6.2 mi) wide. It is located at latitude 11° 9' N, longitude 60° 40' W, slightly north of Trinidad. The population is 54,084 (2000). The capital is Scarborough which has a population of about 17,000. While Trinidad is multiethnic, the population of Tobago is primarily of African descent, although with a growing proportion of Trinidadians of East Indian descent and Europeans (predominantly Germans and Scandinavians). Between 1990 and 2000, the population of Tobago grew by 11.28 percent, making it one of the fastest growing areas of the country.

Plot: Across the city, the legend of a man sets women on fire. They say that his eyes can demolish the strongest woman; that his words are celestial music; that he is a master at exploring the feminine body. He is Simon Luna, the most famous tourist guide in the Caribbean, specialized in taking vacationers to Venezuela's most exotic locations. Another detail makes this legend even more disturbing: the best lover in town has never been conquered by any woman. That is^Å until the arrival of Camila Rigores. A woman of incredible beauty and overpowering personality, she's the daughter of Leon Rigores, owner of the biggest hotel in the capital. Camila Rigores returns to Venezuela with the mission of managing her father's hotel and of reactivating the tourist industry across the country. But an unforeseeable tragedy occurs: Isabel Rigores, Camila's younger sister, commits suicide because of an unrequited love. Camila decides to get revenge for her sister's unexpected suicide and hunts down the man responsible for her death. That man is none other than Simon Luna. Camila Rigores works out a master plan. The great womanizer must be attracted with tasty bait, and what better bait than herself? Simon will be surprised by the sudden apparition of Camila Rigores in one of the most impressive locations of Venezuelan nature. She will make him her business partner, will challenge him to seduce her and will propose the rarest of bets. It is then that her duel to death with him begins. Simon, never suspecting that she is Isabel's sister, and totally ignorant of Isabel's death, is immediately captivated by Camila's beauty. He accepts the challenge of seducing her in a limited time period, and they each bet all of their assets, meaning complete ruin for the one who loses. With the colonization different plants come to the island, such as cocoa and sugar cane. Plantations of these plants were driven with the labour force of slaves until the abolishment of slavery in 1833.
The island state Trinidad and Tobago belongs geographycally to South America, because of its nature. At the end of the last ice age melting glaciers caused the sea level to raise turning Trinidad and Tobago into islands.
Ian Flemming was inspired by the book "Birds of the West Indies", written by the ornithologist james Bond, who made his research on Tobago and gave its name to the very famous protagonist of his romans: the British secret agent, Commander James Bond.
The documentation shows also the different fishing methods of the tobagonians. Some still fish in a very traditional manner by throwing the fishing nets into the sea and pull them back on the beach. The locals sell the fish at the market in Scarborough.
"Liming" ist the tobagonian art of doing nothing. People get together, drink and play cards. And of course music plays an important role on the village. Every Sunday is Sunday school, a huge street party featuring bands playing the steelpan.

Ian Flemming was inspired by the book "Birds of the West Indies", written by the ornithologist james Bond, who made his research on Tobago and gave its name to the very famous protagonist of his romans: the British secret agent, Commander James Bond.
The documentation shows also the different fishing methods of the tobagonians. Some still fish in a very traditional manner by throwing the fishing nets into the sea and pull them back on the beach. The locals sell the fish at the market in Scarborough.
"Liming" ist the tobagonian art of doing nothing. People get together, drink and play cards. And of course music plays an important role on the village. Every Sunday is Sunday school, a huge street party featuring bands playing the steelpan.

Carnival for me is freedom. Rolling with Bliss this year, I noticed most of the people around me were about 10 years my senior. Yet belly outside, cup in hand they all danced through the streets with way more energy than I anticipated. In between I caught glimpses of Trinidadian traditional mas. These characters danced for me, I didn't even have to ask!

In November I attended the World Travel Market in London to promote the Tobago Travel Guide App. At the show I was constantly attending seminars and missed meeting George Shaw, a travel editor for PSA Publishing. Located to the south of the Caribbean island of Cuba, Trinidad was founded by the Spaniard, Velazquez and in the 18th century the city experienced great wealth and recognition through the cultivation of sugar cane.The exclusive palaces and villas of the sugar barons still leave their mark on the city with tall wooden gates, barred windows and original roof tiles that characterise the style of bygone days. The Palacio Padron is located on the Plaza Mayor, the centre of the city. A few years ago the palace was lovingly restored in painstaking detail and transformed into an archaeological museum. Around the main square the most beautiful palaces stand in rows and are an impressive indicator of the colonial lifestyle enjoyed by the former sugar aristocracy.The slave trade and the cultivation of sugar cane made the island’s inhabitants incredibly wealthy and Trinidad became the most important cultural and trade centre in the whole of Cuba. The former palace of the Cantero sugar barons now houses the Museo De Historia, an impressive building in the Calle Bolivar in which visitors can marvel at old timepieces, porcelain, furniture and valuable crystal chandeliers. The seven storey Torre De Iznaga rises menacingly into the sky, the bells of which once summoned the plantation slaves to work while watchmen surveyed the valley from above because of the fears of the plantation owners who believed that one day the slaves would rebel against them. Splendid exotic beauty in a land situated between sun and socialism, sugar and cigars, rumba and revolution. In Trinidad it is as though everything is in a state of suspended animation waiting to be kissed awake.

The people of Trinidad and Tobago are laid back and friendly. If you know some of the local etiquette then you are bound to have a good time. English is the official spoken language, but just like in any country, the dialect will probably be a little different to that in your country. Know some local expressions. You are bound to hear 'lime' or 'liming', which just means hanging out with friends. But trust me, locals love to lime. "Morning!" 'Morning'. Locals like to use 'good morning' or 'good afternoon' when they see each other on the streets. If you are a woman you might draw some attention or comments, but usually that is not threatening. In restaurants, if a service charge is included on the bill, you do not need to tip. If it is not, 10 to 15 percent is customary. Now, you are not expected to tip, so you can round up and just leave small change. Taxi drivers do not expect a tip.
Do not curse or use foul language in public, and do not wear camouflage clothing. They are criminal offenses in Trinidad and Tobago. Now there are some things you will come across that are not need-to-know, but might be a little confusing. Like if your tour guide says he is going to stop for lunch 'one time'. It does not mean he was going to feed you twice. It just means that you are going to have lunch when you stop. You are going to see every creed, color - expect to see anything in Trinidad. The inhabitants of Trinidad live for the carnival. Once brought by the French, the tradition fills up the streets of Trinidad on Monday and Tuesday before Ash-Wednesday. Starting with the Soca Monarch show on Friday, the competition for the carnival song, to choose the best steel band on Saturday, the choice of the best costume of the king and queen masks on Dimanche Gras, Sunday, the street party J'ouvert in the night before Monday and the colorful parades on Monday and Tuesday, the Tradition of carnival is lived in Trinidad.
The documentation accompanies among others Brian Mac Farlane, a carneval designer, who is preparing with his band during the whole year for the shows on Carnival. This year his band prepares costumes relating to the clothes in the end of the 18th century. Concerning the colours everything is in gold and copper while the masquerade itself is the close to the historic archtype. His Motto in 2019 carries the name "Resurrection the Mas". The stilkwalker Seven Nicholls is the Queen of the Band
The King of the Band is wearing a Dragon Costume and will be accompanied by little devils. But also other carnival minded people like Mendell Manwarran, Artist, or Desmond Waithel, conductor of the Steelband "Redegades" explain the special role of carnival on Trinidad.

Caribbean Moments shows a different side to the Caribbean. Everyone visualises sand, sunshine and palm trees – but hardly anyone really discovers what lies behind them. In fact an unbelievable variety of cultures, music and religions has developed as a result of the different influences – African, Indian, English, French and authentically Caribbean.
This documentary series attempts to portray the people - be they the Rastas, who have a lot to say about their mission, the Amerindians in Trinidad, who still have their own Queen, or the Black Caribs – a mixture of escaped slaves and Caribs.
In addition, of course, there’s a huge variety of music: steelpan, parang, calypso, soca and chutney soca shape Trinidad, whilst other islands are especially scenically beautiful, such as Dominica, which is actually a single rain forest and which seduces with its abundant vegetation. Here too are the true Caribs, who occupy themselves with traditional boat building in the same way as their ancestors did centuries ago.
The films were produced in 6 parts to create a documentary series that shows what lies beneath the surface.

The musical traditions of the Caribbean run as deep as the cultures that settled here, and the rhythms of calypso and reggae can be felt throughout the islands. Nowhere is calypso more pervasive than in its birthplace of Trinidad.
Here, in Trinidad, West African slaves mixed their rhythms with those of the Spanish colonizers to create the Afro-Caribbean blend that is synonymous with dancing and improvisation. Calypso is impromptu story telling and social commentary set to infectious rhythms.
The people of Trinidad's irrepressible urge to make music is probably best reflected in the steel drum. Originally fashioned from discarded oil barrels, the steel drum is now one of the most popular instruments in the Caribbean. Their sound is unmistakable, and the steel band is an important part of everyday life.
Building and tuning these instruments is a painstaking tradition that is passed down from one generation to the next. In some cases, drum tuning has even entered the computer age...
Every drum has a different pitch, and when several are played together the steel band comes alive.
Calypso achieves its highest expression in the visual and musical spectacle of Carnival.
Carnival is celebrated more lavishly in Trinidad than anywhere else in the Caribbean. It is a non-stop party for two days before Ash Wednesday, and the locals plan for it all year.
The festivity is carefully organized, with 15 to 20 clubs competing for the best costumes. Bands represent each club, and the people parade in costumes ranging from African tribal attire to serpents to dazzling butterflies. It is a sensual and high-spirited celebration of life.
