The Emirati Armed Forces has started to use actively the Eritrean ports. According to our information, at least, three landing craft belonging to the United Arab Emirates were docked in the port of Assab on September 16.
A diplomatic row between Djibouti and UAE took precedence of these developments. On 28 April the UAE consulate in Djibouti was closed after the altercation between Wahib Moussa Kalinleh, the commander of the Djibouti Air Force, and Ali Al Shihi, Vice Consul of the UAE. Indeed, it was the a formal reason of the departure of the Gulf Cooperation Council troops based on a plot of land that Djibouti had put at its disposal in Haramous in early April to set up its military base. Then Saudi Arabia and UAE redirected their efforts aimed to build a military base on Eritrea.
In turn Eritrea will likely seek to expand its relationships beyond the region in an attempt to break its isolation in the region. Djibouti and Ethiopia have been trying to turn it into a regional rogue state through the African Union. So, from Eritrea's perspective, accepting Saudi and Emirati cash and resources would be a logical move. Indeed, Eritrea is ready to accept cash and resources from anybody who is ready to provide them.
There was a time when Eritrea supported Yemen's Houthi fighters and functioned as a transshipment location for Iranian supplies heading to them. Thus, the Saudi and Emirati attempt to involve a new member state into their coalition has 3 goals.
First is to prevent contacts among Eritrea, Iran and Houthi. It will reduce Iran’s possibility to provide supplies to its allies in Yemen.
Second is to use the port of Assab as a local logistics hub, situated relatively close to the conflict. Given the distances that must be traveled over sea to get to Aden from Sudan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, the port of Assab is located at a vantage ground.
Third is Saudi Arabia will be able to turn Eritrea into a tool to destabilize the situation in Ethiopia. It’s possible through the monoethnic communities of Ogaden and Oromo controlled by Eritrea. The Ethiopian government is conducting a rough anti-Saudi politics and, de facto, destroying all pro-Saudi Islamist entities.
Alternatively, a recent U.N. report claimed that 400 Eritrean soldiers were deployed to Aden to support the Saudi-led coalition. The Emirati vessels in Assab could either transport the Eritrean troops or ferry equipment and supplies to the Eritrean troops already in Yemen. Assab is becoming a point on the Saudi-led coalition’s main supply route.
In any case, the Saudi and Emirati presence in Eritrea won’t be limited by the Yemeni conflict’s length. According to unconfirmed reports, the UAE took on lease Assab for 30 years. Separately, the UAE is seeking to take on lease a former naval base in Berbera in Somaliland. Thus, the Emirati activity in Eritea is a first step in a big plan to establish a naval base network at the Horn of Africa’s coast.

The worst drought in 60 years has thrown some 13 million people across the Horn of Africa into crisis.
In Somalia, ravaged by two decades of conflict, the consequences have been disastrous. For over six months, aid agencies on the ground sounded the alarm that a major drought and famine was on the horizon.
Then in July and August, the world watched and international aid agencies scrambled as tens of thousands of Somalis fled famine and fighting in the devastated Southern part of the country, controlled by the armed group al-Shabab. And they continued to flee - to the Somali capital of Mogadishu, and refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia - in the following months, when the world seemed to lose interest.
Tens of thousands of Somalis have died and the UN has warned that three quarters of a million more are at risk of dying before the end of the year.
Somalia's weak Transitional Federal Government, the Obama administration, and the United Nations have all blamed the anti-government group al-Shabab for restricting international aid operations in the areas they control. But is al-Shabab the only reason a drought and food crisis has turned into a deadly famine?
In the first of a two-part series examining the US response to drought and hunger in the Horn of Africa, Fault Lines travels to Mogadishu to meet refugees who have fled to the most war-ravaged city in the world to escape a worse fate, and the aid and medical workers struggling to help them. We examine the legacy of US engagement in Somalia and its efforts to address the current crisis.
Has aid in this region of the world become politicised? And has Washington's pre-occupation with terrorism in the Horn of Africa contributed to the deadly consequences of this disaster?

As a result of a drought that has hit the eastern region of Africa, known as the Horn of Africa, millions of Africans have been stranded without any food or water. This drought has been the worst in 60 years and has affected a total of 12 million people. The famine resulted in the deaths of 29,000 people in Somalia alone and because of severe drought; lack of humanitarian aid; insurgency, the numbers are drastically rising. The UN announced a catastrophe-level crisis in southern Somalia; emergency-level and crisis-level across the entire Horn of Africa region. We need to find an effective solution and prevent such a crisis from occurring again.

The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says he remains concerned about security in Somalia, increased al-Shabab activity in Puntland and the security implications of developments in Yemen.
As the crisis in Yemen worsens, some trends seem to have reversed. Weapons are now said to be shipped to Yemen from some countries in the Horn of Africa. There are now serious fears that armed groups may coordinate efforts, further threatening an already volatile region.

In addition to a host of university professors—representing Georgetown, George Washington, the University of Minnesota, the University of Florida, and University of Leeds—this event welcomed representatives from US Department of State, World Bank, Institute for Global Engagement, Institute for Economics and Peace, American Academy of Religion, and Atlantic Council.
The keynote panel, led by Brian Grim and Alex Thurston, addressed religious dynamics in the Horn of Africa. Subsequent panels covered topics including: the interaction of religious and political priorities in the region; barriers to religious engagement; religion and development; and policy makers’ engagement with religious leaders.
A roundtable discussion concluded each day. The first addressed historical policy decisions that were not sufficiently attentive to the role and influence of religion. The second addressed how to broaden the conversation from protecting religion from discrimination to include opportunities for economic and social development. Some 2,029 people have now arrived in Djibouti and Somalia’s Somaliland and Puntland, mostly by boat, over the past few weeks. In Djibouti, most of those arriving are Yemeni nationals.
The number of civilians displaced by the escalation of violence in the last few weeks is estimated at between 120,000 and 150,000 people.
It's feared this figure could rise significantly if violence continues. This is in addition to the 300,000 plus Yemenis already displaced by previous violence, many of whom – including the residents of an IDP camp in Mazraq that was subject to airstrikes – have had to flee for a second time. Many of the country's 250,000 refugees are also affected.

Renewed violence in South Sudan, rising malnutrition in Somalia and a dramatic refugee exodus from Eritrea conspire to undermine sporadic progress in the Horn of Africa. Underlying it all is a political marketplace fueled by money and power. The U.S. Institute of Peace invites you to join regional experts, including Alex de Waal, author of "The Real Politics of the Horn of Africa: Money, War and the Business of Power", for a panel discussion on January 28 on the complex interplay between politics and money in the region and the implications for the international community.
For more information about this event, visit: http://www.usip.org/events/money-war-and-the-business-of-power-in-the-horn-of-africa
The Horn of Africa has experienced both advances and setbacks in recent years. In South Sudan, the hope following independence has been tarnished by the outbreak of war and the troubled peace process. In Somalia, al-Shabab and rising malnutrition slows progress on state building. And Eritreans fleeing their country’s oppression accounted for the third-largest group of refugees entering Europe last year, after Syria and Afghanistan. Across the Horn of Africa, corruption, militarization and military patronage undermine regional stability and sustainable peace.
This panel will bring together some of the foremost experts on the Horn of Africa to examine these factors and offer recommendations for how the international community can constructively support efforts to reduce fragility and corruption and improve good governance and stability in the region.
Alex de Waal
Executive Director of the World Peace Foundation and Research Professor at The Fletcher School at Tufts University
Ambassador Princeton Lyman, Moderator
Senior Advisor, U.S. Institute of Peace

One of the things I enjoy doing most in life is sampling fruits I've never tried before. Travel video about destination Ethiopia.
Ethiopia is a mysterious, mountainous land in the Horn Of Africa and birthplace of Early Christianity. A country of rock churches in the north and a large variety of tribes along the Rift Valley in the south and the oldest civilised region in Africa with more than twenty five centuries of documented history. Addis Abeba is the capital of Ethiopia and within its centre is the lavishly furnished Menbere Selassie Church, final place of rest of Ethiopia’s last royal family. It contains the Empress Menen, two princes and Emperor Haile Selassie who, shortly after removal from power, died due to reasons that are in the main controversial. On many of its thirty seven islands, Lake Tana in Northern Ethiopia is well known for its ancient churches and monasteries. Dega Stefanos is located in the centre of the lake and contains one of the country’s most important monasteries. On the summit, framed by walls and hidden under great trees, is the Holy Stefanos Monastery and within a small sanctuary various mummies are preserved within glazed wooden coffins and the remains of five emperors of various dynasties lie at rest. Awash is a settlement on the edge of the nature park of the same name, inhabited by the Afar, a proud and independent tribe. On market day, people from the surrounding area meet here. For the Afar, life is hard and only the strong survive. Corn, tobacco, dates and cotton are the main trading products of this region. Dromedaries, sheep and goats are bred, and pastureland is often the subject of heated disputes. A journey through Ethiopia is also a journey through time itself. A land of rich traditions, religions and myths. A country of legends and contrast that possesses one of the most colourful histories on the African continent.

When most people think of the country Somalia, they associate it with the only areas national media cover, pirates, extremist terrorism, famine and war. A self declared independent state of this country named Somaliland seemed to be different from the rest, the people were happy, it was safe to travel too and they seek peace following the 1988 Somali war.
Somaliland is a self declared independent state, that has been fighting for recognition since the 1960’s. Since then, Somaliland has managed to instate its own visa’s, currency, police force and even access to reliable internet.
I wanted to discover more about the somali people are what they are really like, and how they live their lives. So i researched ways to get into the country. Crossing the border is relatively easy in fact, you just need a visa. I found a tour operator named Lupine Travel who offer trips out to the Horn of Africa Via Ethiopia, this was my chance to meet some of the locals of Somaliland. So, after speaking to the company and arranging my trip, I booked my flights, armed myself with my camera and set out to discover the story of the people of Somaliland.

World Concern is helping families who are on the brink of death, with food, water and emergency supplies. Our focus is to help people left out of the main stream of humanitarian aid, those who have been forgotten. We are also positioned to help Somali families on their way to Kenya, but providing assistance within Somalia near the border. We are trying to prevent more families from having to travel to overcrowded refugee camps.
This emergency response saves lives. But we are also addressing the core issues that led to this crisis, including access to water, food security and more.

Lyrics:
I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in twelve-thirty flight
Her moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say: Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

World's deadliest tourist Destination.
Editor-Jitendra Kumar Jitu
Voice-Anju Paudel
Travelling should be more than packing bags, travelling long way to a 7star hotel and visiting some of most likely visited tourist destination. According to my idea of holiday, if you have a charged pocket, a desire to taste some adventure (or taste death) then you must visit Somalia. Somalia is on the Horn of Africa, and is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the north-west, and Kenya on its south-west. On June 21, the US Federal Government has issued a Travel Warning for the country. Travel to Somalia is EXTREMELY NOT recommended as the conflict continues.
Somalia is noted as the world's unsafe travel destination and is one of the most dangerous places on Earth.
Somalia is home to the largest coastline in Africa, good hotel and food bargains and the beautiful mountains. In 2004, Somalia's minister of tourism claimed that the country hadn't had an officially-acknowledged tourist in 14 years. The problem? Civil war and fighting among warlords seeking to gain control of drug and weapons trafficking has left Somalia a burning wreck of what was once a beautiful country.
Since the civil war broke out in 1990, Somalia is divided into no less than two dozen warring groups. The proprietors of most of the Hotels may serve delicious lobster on the roof overlooking the sea, but they also advise that visitors hire at least 10 armed guards to get them from the airport to the hotel. The United States doesn't even operate an embassy in Somalia, so you're truly on your own. Terrorist attacks, cross-border warring and brutal, violent street crime wrack the country on a daily basis. So why would you want to visit Somalia? The answer probably would be adventure.
The Safety Tips:
1. Somalia is a Muslim country. As such, be sensitive about where you point your camera. There are many great photo opportunities around every corner (the question is usually what to leave out of each image), but when photographing people, always ask first. Don't ever try to take pictures of women, even if you're a woman yourself. This is considered a great offense and can even result in more than a few harsh words. Also don't try to take pictures of anything that looks as if it could be of any strategic importance.
2. Alcohol is prohibited in Somalia and possessing alcohol will get you into a lot of trouble - and never drink and drive.
3. Never discuss religion. Even highly-educated Somalis who studied abroad won't appreciate it and doors will close for you. Also be aware that the Islamic "call to prayer" happens five times daily and can be heard loudly almost anywhere you go. Just understand that most Somali people are used to it and enjoy it as part of the cultural experience. If you aren't Muslim, it is not expected for you to participate, but you should always sit quietly and respectfully until the prayers end.
4. Do Take care of your clothing as you are visiting a Muslim country.
As with any travel in a war zone, exercise extreme caution. And for a last pray for a safe landing back to your town.

Safari in Kenya : See Things You Need To Know Before Go To Safari In Kenya
National Park Masai Mara (area of 320 sq. Km.) Lies at 275 km west of Nairobi, at an altitude of 1650 m above sea level.
Its western part borders on the Serengeti - National Park of Tanzania, so in the period from July to September, you can see the movement of huge masses of animals which migrate from the Serengeti in search of food.
Here in the savannah and acacia thickets along the river Mara, are found almost all the animals inhabiting East Africa, including the population of unique black lions and Mara river itself is infested with crocodiles and hippos.
Park Masai Mara (north of the country, on the border with Tanzania) - probably the most interesting place in Kenya. The park is very large, its territory and the river, and savannah and forested areas - tour operators recommend this park for a period of at least three days. In July-October through the park takes a huge migration of wildebeest population (from November to April, they live in the Serengeti, Tanzania). The spectacle is really impressive - millions of antelopes, zebras and their accompanying predators
The wealth of wildlife Masai Mara can be compared only to the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro in Tanzania. It is home to about 80 species of mammals and 450 species of birds.
During the great migration that takes place from August to September on the Masai Mara moved more than 200 thousand. Zebras, about 500 thousand. Thompson gazelles, 1.3 million. Wildebeests.
Kenya Safari is adventure of tourism.
Masai Mara National Park - one of the most famous sanctuaries of the Black Continent. The existing ban on hunting is not only applies to the Maasai tribes living on these lands.
Tusk elephant, rhino horn, lion skin, cheetah - for a long time the hunting trophies brought good money. And the better things went from hunters and dealers, the less chance of survival remained in African Safari wildlife. The number of the largest and most beautiful inhabitants of the savanna is rapidly declining - in the middle of the twentieth century seemed to save Africa's rich wildlife from extinction can only wonder.

Be the change ! - A call for 'unity' in support of Africa

With the production of my first video highlighting the Drought in Horn of Africa... I had hoped that 'the call of unity' to humanity, would have been answered... and we would have been able to avoid a potential 'catastrophe'.
I was wrong !...
Here I am with video number six on the subject... the 'Drought' is now a Drought and Famine... and according to a Report I heard recently, more than 29,000 children have perished as a result of our failure to act fast enough or sufficiently enough.
29,000 beautifully precious souls... their lives, disgracefully thrown away !
'The insanity of man' continues to astound me...
There are approximately 22,000 Nuclear Warheads in this world... more than enough to 'destroy our planet' ten times over... yet we continue to spend trillions of dollars each year on Weapons of War.
We 'humans' are truly 'insane'...
Where are our priorities ???
'Children' are our most precious asset... They are the future of mankind...
What possible 'future' can we have in store for them, when not only do we shamefully use our Weapons of War to kill them... we don't spend the money necessary to prevent their precious lives being needlessly thrown away !
What are we teaching our children ?... What are they learning from us ???
Are we teaching them that 'if their skin colour is not the same as ours'... their lives are not worth saving ?
The children of Africa had as much say as to 'where they would be born, or what their skin colour would be' as the rest of us did...
None !!!
PLEASE... We are one human family...
We are not 'less human' if we speak a different language, or follow a different religion.
It is time for us to 'prove our worth as humanity' by ensuring that all members of our human family are permitted the Peace, Love, Dignity, Respect, and Justice they rightfully deserve !
Let us start, by 'being the change' the world needs for us to be... and by uniting in support of our precious siblings in Africa !!!

This is the startling moment a leopard sprung a surprise attack on a flock of birds - right in front of a tourist group’s Jeep.
The spectacular sighting - captured in Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa - was so unexpected, the filmer almost drops her camera.
Perfectly camouflaged in the bush, the leopard goes undetected as the tourists approach, tailing a group of Guinea fowl waddling along the dirt path.
Leopard leaps into action trying to catch its prey (Caters)
But split seconds after the birds begin to fly away, the predator can be seen springing into action, leaping several feet into the air to try and claw one of the birds midair.
Su-jin Wong, who happened to be filming the birds when the incident happened during a recent trip to the national park, said: “It was very exciting. It was wonderful to see a beautiful animal up-close and in-action.”
The tourists had risen early after being alerted to leopard sightings in the area near their camp.
Eager to catch a glimpse of the normally shy big cats, the group immediately hit the road following its tracks.
Driving in an open-top Jeep, guides thought they had lost the trail of the leopard when it they spotted the group of Guinea fowl on the road.
With the groups attention fixated on the birds, the group were taken by surprise as the leopard launched its stealth attack just a few feet in front of their vehicle.
Wong added: “We were travelling relatively slowly as the ranger and tracker were still keeping a lookout for the leopard.
“The flock began with at least twenty birds running ahead of the vehicle.
“We began filming after about half of them had split off one by one while running in front of the vehicle.
“Suddenly, our ranger slammed on the brakes - and out of no where the leopard propelled up before us.”
After failing to catch its prey, the leopard disappeared back in to the undergrowth.
Trevor Carnaby, who runs Beat About The Bush, a Safari company running tours of Kruger, said: “Leopards are supreme opportunists and will often take a lot of small prey such as guinea fowl.”
Su-jin added: “My dad and I are avid viewers of nature documentaries and getting to see all the beauty of these wild animals in their natural habitat was a dream come true.
“Interacting and learning more about the animals, life in the camp and Kruger was a truly unforgettable experience.

Kiwano Melon - Have you tried this interesting fruit?
A kiwano melon is a fruit that's native to parts of southern Africa.

A kiwano melon is a fruit that's native to parts of southern Africa.
One of the things I enjoy doing most in life is sampling fruits I've never tried before. Over the course of my travels, I've been able to try a lot of exotic and interesting fruits, some of which are now my favorite fruits in the entire world such as durian, cempedak, and that bizarre egg yolk fruit that I tried in Thailand. Anyway, I just think that fruit is one of the most amazing things in the world - the reason being that different fruits, which are produced by trees, and so incredible - impossible to be recreated and cooked by a human, but just natural amazing flavors.
So while I've mostly tried fruits in Southeast Asia, I was actually in the United States, at a store in Phoenix, Arizona, when I walked into a supermarket and noticed a bright orange fruit. I looked at the label and saw that it was something known as a kiwano melon. At $3.99 per fruit, it was extremely expensive for just a single fruit, but when I see a new fruit that I've never tried before, there's no holding me back on my desire to try it, and I was willing to dish out a bit of cash in order to get a couple of these kiwano melons. When I got home, I did a bit of research to see what exactly the melon was, and discovered that it's also known as a horned melon, and that the fruit is native to parts of the southern part of Africa.
I tried to not read too much about the flavor of a kiwano melon, as I wanted to see for myself how it tasted before reading someone else's opinion. So with little research I decided to give this peculiar and beautiful orange thorny fruit a try. When I first sat down with the horned melon I really didn't know what to do so I first cut it in half. I was extremely impressed with the beautiful orange color from the outside and the contrast of the green seeds on the inside. I got out a spoon, and dug out my first bite of the kiwano melon. The seeds looked very similar to a cucumber, and they were coated in a gel, or a Jell-O like skin.
The seeds were very tough and quite hard to chew, but they did have a really good flavor to them. The melon sort of reminded me of cucumber with its freshness, but at the same time it had a flavor similar to a kiwifruit, but quite a bit less sweet. So after finishing about half of the key watermelon, I decided to research it a little bit more, and found out that it's a very healthy fruit. The fruit is packed with all sorts of vitamins and fiber, so it's not only an interesting fruit to try but also healthy fruit. I also read that if you want no melon is commonly used in things like fruit shakes and even cocktails, and some people mentioned that they take out the seeds.
Overall the kiwano melon was very interesting to try, and I did enjoy it, but it was a bit too expensive in the United States for me to eat it on a regular basis. It's a great fruit, but not really worth going out of your way to purchase all the time.

wn.com/Kiwano Melon Have You Tried This Interesting Fruit

We embarked on the Queen Mary 2 for a 7-day voyage from Southampton, UK to New York City. The Queen Mary 2 is a marvel of human engineering and design, and it was a fascinating trip.
In this short film I tried to show most of the places on the Queen Mary 2 where passengers can spend their time. When you see places without people, it's because I shot them very early or late, when most of my fellow passengers were sleeping or busy doing something else.

While doing a Cape Point tour departing from Cape Town, South Africa we witnessed numerous animal sightings including ostriches and baboons. One particularly crazy baboon jumped on top of a car with a lady in the passenger side totally freaking out. She was very scared and screaming loudly. Our guide warned us that the baboons were very aggressive towards tourists if they could smell food. I wonder if they had a lot of food inside of the car. I suppose I'll never find out given that our car drove off in the opposite direction and when I looked back in the distance it appeared the crazy baboon was still on top of the car!
Crazy Baboon Jumps on top of a Car Scaring a Lady Screaming Loudly in South Africa Travel Video Transcript:
Come out. Smart phone. Smart phone. Smart phone, hello?
Ahhhh!
Go away!
Okay guys, keep all windows locked.
They smell food.
Wow, she's screaming!

wn.com/Crazy Baboon Jumps On Top Of A Car Scaring A Lady Screaming Loudly In South Africa
