THE VOPO'S - s/t EP 1980

Classic up-tempo ’77 punk wrapped in four brilliant nuggets. This is the first record (Redlux Records) of the Vopo's which was founded in Zwolle/Netherlands during 1978 and striking here is consistently the raw voice of the singer. Otherwise the songs are kept short and strum well. For me, a wonderful gem!!! Here's a short review: "Classical punk from Holland. The vocals are nice and rough, but the guitar is too clean to scrape the wax out of your ears. Not as good as their well-rounded Dead Entertainment LP." - Jeff Bale (Maximum Rock'n'Roll #2, Sep./Oct.1982) Well, I have their album and I can't confirm what Jeff criticized here because the guitars are absolutely cool. Anyway, this piece of vinyl is hard to get and that's why it's posted in this theater. They are featured on different samplers and the most important is in my opinion the 1997 bootleg Feel Lucky Skunk?! compilation which I have too. Sometime in this Blog to find. Enjoy!!!

AQUI D'EL ROCK - Há Que Violentar O Sistema 7'' 1978 + s/t 7'' 1979

The Portuguese punk rock killer band Aqui D'el Rock started in 1977. Their first gig was in 1978 at a rock festival in Lisbon, and unsurprisingly the press described their sound as "chaotic noise". At the time, only the Swedish band LEATHER NUN had a similar sound composed of grating guitars, a fat bass, extremely punchy drums and menacing vocals. In July 1978, they opened for EDDIE & THE HOT RODS in Lisbon and released their first single; in 1979, their second single came out. "Ha Que Violentar O Sistema" was also part on the Killed By Death #41 compilation. The highlight of their sound is the guitar, which is distinct on each single and best on the second one, where it is fuzzy, fulminant, and aggressive. Check Shit-Fi for more infos and reviews about this amazing combo from south Europe.

BRÜLBÅYZ - Dödens Apostlar EP 1980

One more rare Killed By Death Stuff from Sweden. Brülbåjz with Michael Olsson on drums, Peo Ericsson on guitar, Stefan "Taggen" Johansson on vocals & Mikael Weinestad on guitar. All "true" punks. They did only one show in Falun, sometime in August 79, before breaking up. In January, Brülbåjz reformed but this time with Chips on bass, Peo on guitar, Stefan "Taggen" Johansson on vocals and Tomas Olsson on drums. Tomas had never played drums when he joined the band, but he had the right haircut and attitude. Brülbåjz played no covers, just original songs (all in Swedish). The band was actually called Brülbåjz (LLR), LLR means "Legoland Rockers" which was their first name for a couple of days but no one ever said the LLR part. In late autumn 1980 the band went to Stockholm to record their only EP with three snotty Killer punk tracks. 500 copies of the single was released on the band's own label, Prylén Records. The first 200 copies came with hand-painted letters on the front, some also came with an insert. The song 'EAP' have now been released on several compilations with rare punk tracks all over the world, and the single is quite expensive today. The photo of the burning mannequin on the sleeve was taken outside Bokassa Brothers rehearsal place. The house would later become Sator Codex rehearsal place. In December, the band broke up again, after not even one year together. The main reason for the break-up was the same old "musical differences".

VON GAM - Ung & Söt (Demo) 1981

Last one today is a rare tape from a band which came from Hovmantorp and I would like to use some info from Sobriquet Magazine: "With the exception of 1981's Ung & Söt, a 7 song cassette that was limited to two hundred copies and a pair of compilation appearances ("Mode" can be found on Bloodstains Across Sweden #3 and both "Hasse Parasit" and "Mode" appear on Killed By Death #41), Von Gam's recorded output is limited to this little artifact. Although Von Gam's lineup for most of the band's 100+ shows consisted of Anders Karlsson on guitar, Bo Lindberg on bass, and Jan Vestergren on drums and vocals, Per Åke "Sticky Bomb" Holmberg (better known in punk circles as the drummer for Kriminella Gitarrer) appears on the recording as a backing vocalist. Holmberg's sonic signature is perhaps most noticeable, however, in the considerable amount of reverb he added to the disk during the mixing process. The band play a driving, mid-tempo rhythm sound and gritty vocals. A pretty solid bit of straight-forward (and totally danceable) 77-style punk. Well worth a listen." The bands only release Hasse Parasit came out in 1980 in an edition of only 500 copies is one of the rarest and most sought after Swedish punk records. Von Gam is cool and always welcome.

- Big Thx to Fredrik -

CAMBOUIS - J'attends Qu'elle Ait Ses 15 Ans 7'' 1978

The weather is still shit, rain rain rain and seven degrees. Time to sit here and post more rare stuff. Next to come is a good ass kickin' record by this early punk band from the Bretagne and they released their only record with two awesome '77 trashers on Animusic. Cambouis were founded by Marcel (bass), Jérôme (drums), Jean-Luc (guitar), Philippe (guitar) and Albert (vox). Since there was not much goin' on in Brittany at the end of the 70s, the five men decided to form a band and change this. After copious orgies in the practice room they decided to shock the well-behaved citizens and play a few gigs in their home area. Impressed by their performance the band earned a record deal and went into a barn and chose from over 30 songs these two missiles for the 7inch. The single was a worldwide success and brought the band fame and lots of money. Unfortunately so much that they had no desire to publish more. Why too?  Finally, they had safe hands and posterity gave a great work. And if they are not dead they live today at all the beautiful places in the world.

NILP - Gift EP 1982

Here we have now a funny band from Zurich called Nilp, four songs that remind me a little bit of the NDW age in the early 80' but it sounds more punk with partially a nice Bontempi organ. Sung in beautiful charming "schwizerdeutsch" dialect. Is good at a party. That's all I have to say from the Alpfront. One more goodie on the famous Definitiv Zurich compilation - Enjoy!

TAGMEMICS - Chimneys EP 1980

After the Art Attacks ended the members of this London group recorded their one and only EP as Tagmemics on LAX Records in 1980 and played one gig supporting The Monochrome Set in 1979 before finally calling it a day. Extreme shortlived but this vinyl kicks in every way. Fresh wave tinged punk rock in finest manner. Started with a long number which sounds at first a little poppy but with the 2nd hearin' I'm in the song...Fuck! - The second number is a brilliant killer, short and powerful with lots of Uuhhhhhs you know....the last track 'Take Your Brain Out For A Walk' is the winner here, perfect played, brilliant lyrics and simply fantastic. What more should I'm sayin' about this record?? Start the download immediately and relax with these three goodies!

CASABLANCA - Stora Stygga Vargen 7'' 1981

Once more a band which I don't know absolute nothing and I think that it is sometimes not really important. This mega rare 7'' is for certain their only record and was released via MNW Records. Two magnificent PopPunk beats are celebrated on this by this Gothenburg based combo. Too bad, even here, as with many other short lived bands would be a full length album without doubt has become an absolute killer. Both songs have a speedy melodic tempo and the punky guitars round off the rest. So after four minutes the fun is over and I promise you listen quickly again.

- Huge Thx to Fredrik -

THE SOFTIES - Suicide Pilot 7'' 1978

The Softies was a Dutch punk band that released two singles in 1978, the title track Suicide Pilot is shown on the Killed By Death #1234 compilation. They started during the first punk wave that flooded Holland in the fall of 77, when Michael Smith, a former roadmanager of the Damned came from the U.K. to Amsterdam to form his own band, soon linking up with FrankNstein and Joe Thumper. The Band soon signed up a record deal and the first single 'Suicide Pilot" was released jan.1978. The single was well received by both media and public with its much recognizable air-raidsiren,the opening of the song, and of the many shows that followed. The beginning of march 78 the Softies were joined by
Captain Sensible, who had left the Damned after their splitup, and took up the leadguitar with the Softies. A tour in Germany followed as well as Gigs around Holland. A second single was released in april and the now classic song 'jet boy jet girl', a satire version of the Plastic Bertrand version 'ca plane por moi' (by the way mentioned by Johnny Rotten in The New Musical Express as single of the week!!') was performed/sung by the Captain, great stuff and its said he is still performing it this day and age!!!! Anyhow, it was time for the Captain to go back home, to start his own band, and the Softies were a punkrockin threepieceband again. The Softies released their only album Nice & Nasty album in 1979 on Charlie Records. Michael sadly passed away, round about spring 2005.
