A man has been detained in Dublin on a European arrest warrant in connection with the death of a woman in Belfast.
Raymond O’Neill, 37, was arrested by gardai on Wednesday and later appeared in an extradition court in the Irish capital. He was remanded in custody until later this month.
He is facing charges of murder and arson over the death of Jennifer Dornan, who was found stabbed to death in her burning house in the Lagmore area of west Belfast last August.
Marianne O’Kane, of the Public Prosecution Service in Northern Ireland, said: “Senior prosecutors from both the PPS’s serious crime unit and appeals and international section have worked closely with the PSNI investigating team over recent months … to expedite the prosecution.”
PSNI Det Supt Kevin Geddes said: “We will be seeking this man’s extradition to Northern Ireland as part of our investigation into Jennifer’s murder.
“We have been working closely with the Public Prosecution Service to ensure this matter is expedited as quickly as possible.”
