Austria has much to offer: high mountains and alpine pastures in the west, Mediterranean lakes in the south and scenic plains in the east. A land of majestic buildings and of the rural culture and history of past centuries. For more than three hundred years Vienna was the residence of the emperor and the nobility had their fine palaces built in this city that was dominated by Baroque architecture. The Hofburg was the residence of the royal family and the legislative centre of the city, with eighteen wings, nineteen courtyards and more than two and a half thousand rooms. The mighty central cupola of the National Library spans thirty metres high above the most beautiful reading hall in the world and each day white Lipizzaner stallions are trained in the Spanish Riding School. The Wachau covers thirty six kilometres of the Danube Delta with mediaeval old towns, castles and ruins, a Baroque monastery and an ancient vine growing culture. Linz is the capital of Upper Austria and is a dynamic industrial city with an old town that has a long history. It is the third largest city in Austria and is located on both banks of the Danube with several connecting bridges. Salzburg is a city of bishops and of music and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Austria as well as being the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Grossglockner High Alps Road travels through one of the greatest natural landscapes in the world, the Hohe Tauern National Park, a remarkable mountain world in which nature is at its most glorious. Although this former powerful realm of the Habsburger is now a relatively small country, its history, traditions and the diversity of its remarkable landscapes have retained their irresistible allure. Austria will always be the majestic land in the very heart of Europe!

Hollywood actor Christop Waltz, star of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, explains the difference between Austrians and Germans.
Although the interview is slightly tongue-in-cheek, Waltz is well qualified to make the comparison. He was born in Vienna, the product of a German-born father, Johannes Waltz, and Austrian-born mother, Elisabeth Urbancic, who were set and costume designers.
As for St Martin Chalets, we love both Austrians AND Germans. We have many visitors from both countries every year, and we would find it very difficult to make a comparison. Honest! :)

We slap-dance the night away in a nearby Tirolean village before turning to feudal Italy at Reifenstein Castle. Then we're out-of-doors, zooming up rock cliffs and hiking through alpine meadows in the Italian Dolomites.

Tourists also frequent the city to tour the city's historic center, many palaces, and the scenic Alpine surroundings.

In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about Austria , the formal imperial country that used to dominate Central Europe. Today it is one of the most developed countries in the world, with beautiful architecture inherited from the time of the Habsburgs. If you consider spending your hollyday in Austria, you might check out these facts.
More information about the video content bellow:
1. The croissant was invented in Austria. The Wiener Schnitzel is a typical Austrian main dish and the dessert "Strudel" or "Apfelstrudel" (filled with apple) was also created in Austria.
2. The world's largest emerald (2860 carat) is displayed in the Imperial Treasury of the Hofburg (Imperial Palace) in Vienna. It was commissioned by the Hapsburg king, Emperor Ferdinand III in 1641, and was carved out of a single large emerald crystal of Colombian origin.
3. Founded in 803 as Stiftskeller St. Peter in Salzburg, Haslauer is the world's oldest inn/restaurant still in operation, and the oldest company in Europe.
4. Austria has given the world many famous people, like the classical music composers: Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Liszt, J. Strauss, Mahler, and Bruckner, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Hollywood actor and governor of California, the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, the founder of the German sports car company 'Porsche' was the Austrian Ferdinand Porsche, who also designed the Volkswagen, Christian Doppler, the scientist who discovered the “Doppler Effect”.
5. Austria’s flag is one of, if not the, oldest national banners in the world. In 1191, Duke Leopold V of Austria’s tunic became blood spattered and, upon removal of his wide sash, a white band was revealed. The red-white-red color combination was then adopted as his banner.
6. 62% of Austria's total land area is covered by the Austrian Alps.
7. The Habsburgs’ Winter Palace in the capital of Austria, Vienna, the Hofburg, has over 3,000 rooms and is bigger than the Louvre in Paris. It was over 600 years in the making because all the emperors had to build new wings for themselves. Today it houses 20 different museums.

On your next trip to Austria, pay a visit to its capital city of Vienna. During the late 19th and early 20th century, this city became a cultural epicenter of Europe, contributing art, philosophy, and culture on its way to becoming one of the world’s great cities.
During your Vienna sightseeing, you can drink coffee in the same cafes as Einstein and Freud, or wander down the streets that inspired Beethoven. Tour galleries devoted to some of the most magnificent artwork in all of Europe, then walk along the Ringstrasse. Also called “Ring Road,” this downtown boulevard home to private residences, palaces, and other exquisite examples of architecture for you to marvel at.
Much of Vienna tourism is centered in its cafes. This is not just because its residents love strong coffee—though they do—but because Viennese social life largely grows out of its coffee houses. Locals will spend hours at their favorite cafes, reading the paper, speaking to friends, working on projects, or listening to music in the evenings. Sit at a table and watch the people of Vienna stroll by, or enjoy a sachertorte, or chocolate cake, while catching up on your latest novel. It’s impossible to visit this city and not be inspired.
Vienna has long been called The City of Music. Find out why at the Vienna State Opera; a backstage tour will show you all the ins and outs of this majestic place, as well as give you a glimpse of why it has been at the forefront of entertainment since its construction in the 1800s. Afterward, head a few blocks south to the Volksgarten, or people’s garden. Stroll through its pathways and sniff the sweet fragrance of its hundreds of roses. What better way to end a day in one of the world’s most beautiful cities?
What was your favorite part of Vienna?

Travel video about destination Graz in Austria.
Graz is located in the centre of Styria and is the second largest city in Austria, a town that fascinates with its southern flair, magnificent historical buildings and beautiful panoramic views. The city's main landmark is its twenty-eight metre high clock tower that was built in 1561 and is one of the few remains of an old fortress. In order to facilitate a clearer view of the time from the historic part of the town below, the minute hand of the clock was exchanged with that of the hour hand. The first recorded history of Graz dates back to 1128 but earlier archaeological records indicate that it was originally a settlement in 2,000 B.C.But the main architectural focal point in Graz is the Landhaus. Domenico Ell'allio transformed the old meeting hall of Styria's country estates into a typical Renaissance building. Many cultural and historic works of art combine in perfect harmony and thus make Graz a particularly unique and attractive town.

Travel video about destination Graz in Austria.
Graz is the capital of Austria’s federal state of Styria and in 2003 was designated as Europe’s Capital City Of Culture. Indeed, due to its geographical location, for many centuries Graz has been a melting pot of culture. The Schlossberg Mountain towers above the city and in 1894 a rack railway was introduced in order to overcome the severity of its 60 per cent gradient. The Romans and Celts once used the mountain as a place of ritual ceremony and today small pathways and pavilions make the mountain more accessible. In the 12th century a mediaeval castle was built on the plateau and in 1531 it was transformed into a mighty fortress that served as a defence against the Turks. With nearly 32,000 exhibits that date from the 15th to the 19th centuries the Zeughaus contains the largest collection of historic weaponry in the world. The often-extended Grazer Burg was once the residence of the Hapsburgs. One of its towers contains a unique double spiral Gothic staircase constructed of sandstone that shines out magnificently in a wonderful array of colour. The entire complex, along with each of its numerous building styles and adjoining park, is now the seat of Styria’s provincial government. Located on a hill to the north east there is another fine example of Baroque architecture, the Maria Trost Basilica. In the 17th century those who sought help and consolation climbed two hundred and fifteen steps to a Gothic Madonna who was thought to possess miraculous powers. Within the interior of the church and its colourful wall and ceiling mounted frescos, there are also various scenes of battle. Graz is a city in which the artistic and architectural styles of the German-speaking nations, the Balkans and the Mediterranean are united. It is a remarkable city of age old traditions, mediaeval flair and contemporary life.

Travel video about destination Vienna in Austria.
Vienna is one of the world's most beautiful, historic cities, brimming with nostalgia and with all the grand architecture of a once glorious empire, for three centuries it was home to the Austrian monarchy.
The architectural image of the city is dominated by the Ringstrasse, a four kilometre long boulevard which encircles the centre of the city.
It was under the supervision of Maria Theresia that the magnificent royal residence, the Schönbrunn Palace, was completed. More than 1,700 beautifully-preserved rooms afforded the large Imperial family much freedom of movement and its magnificent interior décor is one of the most lavish of its time. The Palace Grounds contain the outstanding Neptune Fountain and at the highest point, the Gloriette, from which the entire palace grounds are visible, as well as the charming Schönbrunn Zoo, the oldest animal enclosure in the world.
St. Stephen's Cathedral dominates the centre of Vienna and not far away behind the State Opera House, is the venerable Hotel Sacher, with its old Viennese coffee house.
Johann Strauss, the Vienna Boys' Choir, Lipizzaner horses and Heurige wine, Vienna is a city of irresistible charm!

Travel video about destination Tyrol.
The Tyrol is a picturesque federal state in the west of Austria and one of the most beautiful areas in Europe set within the magnificent Alps. It boasts many ancient towns, monasteries and fortresses that highlight the region’s history.Kitzbühel was once a prosperous mining town but today it is a world famous ski resort that is also popular in the summer months. The old town, with its pretty middle class buildings that date back to the fifteenth century, is a fine example of Austria’s rural architecture. Westendorf was judged to be the most beautiful village in Europe and not without reason as it nestles picturesquely within a fertile high valley on the northern slopes of the Kitzbüheler Alps, an oasis of relaxation in contrast to the busy tourist centres of the surrounding area. The Fohlenhof Ebbs Stud at the foot of the Kaiser Mountains is the official location of the Tyrol Horse Breeding Union and is where the famous Haflinger horses are bred. Further west of the Inntal the Alpbach Tal leads into an untouched natural landscape. At an altitude of nine hundred and seventy five metres above sea level is the remote mountain village of Alpbach, the most beautiful village in the Tyrol which has maintained its traditional character with typical timber built farmhouses and balconies decorated with flowers. At the junction of Unter-Inntal and Ober-Inntal is the Tyrol’s metropolis of Innsbruck, the Florence Of The North. The nearby mountains form a magnificent backdrop for the Late Gothic city centre whose main street leads from the Triumph Pforte to as far as the Annasäule and then on to the Golden Dachl. Today this popular Alpine holiday region welcomes international visitors throughout the year and is most deservedly referred to as a natural treasure in the very heart of Europe!

Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Salzburg in Austria, which is rich in history and culture (Part 6/6).
Visit Salzburg in Austria Part 6/6
Let's take another look at the beautiful Baroque University Church of Fisherphanarlact and the Universitätsplatz bathe in sunshine, the location of the flower market. On the other side of the Salzburg, in the middle of the modern city of Salzburg we find Mirabel castle. Perhaps this castle has one of the most beautiful and most well maintained gardens in the world. This dream park emitting a baroque atmosphere was also design by Fisherphanarlact. Between oblong flower beds, marble statues almost come to life before our very eyes.
The artworks of the Italian Natavio Musta symbolize the air, water, earth and fire. The favorites of the visitors are the statues depicting Pegasus and the unicorn.
Five kilometers to the south of the city, we can find the palace of Hebron which is also a famous for its park. Archbishop Marco Sitti Goes had it model of the eloquent village of Venice and Rome. The unique attractions of the castle are the trick fountains often surprising and suspecting visitors. It's no wonder the palace is most visit in the swelter of the summer.
And once again, Eric Eisner, small groups of statue stand along narrow canals move by some machinery with the power of water depicting scenes from mythology in real life. The fountains of water spurt from the antlers and noses of stone deer. This water show is crown by a scene which illustrates a theatrical performance in front of the doom with more than a hundred figures moving together to the accompaniment of organ.
The afar mentioned water powered puppet show was made in 1750 at the peak of technical standards of the age.
A fishpond of botanical garden and a little zoo also belong to the palace.

The Austrian public broadcaster ORF has confirmed that Conchita Wurst has been internally chosen to represent the Central European country in Copenhagen. The song is yet to be chosen. Conchita Wurst, whose real name is Tom Neuwirth, has already participated in the 2012 national final, where she came second.
While the last three representatives of Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest have all been selected in a public national final, ORF have opted for an internal selection procedure for 2014. Today, the singer to represent the "Alpine republic" has been announced.
Conchita Wurst has already once tried to win the ticket to the Eurovision stage, in 2012, when she came second with the song That's What I Am behind Trackshittaz in the Austrian national selection. Previously she had participated in the "Starmania" talent show, where she competed against Nadine Beiler, the Austrian representative in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.

Tom Neuwirth aka Conchita Wurst's first press conference interview (in German) after landing in Austria Vienna after winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 ESC in Copenhagen. The bearded lady got known on the Internet as "The Queen of Europe" or "The Queen of Austria" and scored one of the highest votes ever in ESC. This was Austria's first win in the competition since 1966 with "Merci, Chérie".
As an Austrian I think many Austrians feel humbled by the passionate support from so many countries and the amazing atmosphere in the hall! Thank you!!! So many exiting songs and countries!!! See you in Austria next year!
Also big respect for the composers of this song (Rise Like a Phoenix) and for the stunning performance and voice of course.

How to combine the Wisdom of Nature with modern High-Technology
How to build a house that :,
° gives its habitants a profound feeling of well-being
° provides a solution for people with allergic intolerance to toxic chemical
components
° wins all records in thermal insulation, sound-proofness, fire-protection, earth-quake-
stability, and even protection against electro-magnetic-waves.
° is built in only a few days with almost no construction waste
° represents a unique example for sustainability and circular economy
The answer is given by Dr. Erwin Thoma, the fonder of HOLZ 100 (100% pure wood) from the Salzburg area, Austria -- a revolutionary new building concept (philosophy, one could say).
After having carefully observed nature and the ecological cycles in forests in his former job as a forester, he combined his observations with old traditions of 'wood-harvesting' and wooden construction of houses. They say that by harvesting wood in the cold winter-periods and during decreasig moon-phases (called the moon-wood), construction wood can be obtained with a unique degree of resistance against mold and insects and of remarkable longevity. Chemical components to protect the wood are not necessary any more.
Numerous scientific tests have proven these old techniques as perfectly efficient.
His buildings are made purely out of 100% massive wood, wooden dowels keep the lumber panels together.
A perfect example for the 'cradle-to-cradle' concept, or circular economy.
Dr. Thoma's moto : »Nature provides us by its example with perfect solutions for our present technical and ecological problems. We just have to observe, appreciate -- and apply ! »
HOLZ 100 is building world-wide constructions from private houses to complex 5-or-more-story-high hotel- or office-constructions that correspond to the highest technological standards.

Wir haben uns in Wien wohlgefühlt. Bis heute haben wir
Wien mehrmals besucht.
Original:SD1 1440x1080i, 25fps, 12Mb/s
Original:SD707 1920x1080p, 50fps, 25Mb/s
Beide haben ein LEICA-Objektiv + UV-Filter
