This video about Prussian history focusses on its kings and leaders and what they meant for Prussia. The dynasty of Prussia from 1525 to 1918 is called the Hohenzollerns. Even the two rulers before 1618 were Hohenzollerns. Note how exceptionally long some Prussian monarchs ruled:
The Great Elector: 48 years.
Frederick the Great: 46 years.
Frederick William III: 43 years.

If you want to know more about Prussia, feel free to watch part 2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJW5JATYa78
Prussia was a German state centred around Berlin in the era when Germany existed of many small states. Prussia was also one of the great powers in modern history. Prussia has disappeared completely from the map. The Prussian borders changed very often. Prussia had a great influence on German and European history. Its rival was Austria, because Prussia and Austria both wanted to control the rest of Germany.
FAQ: Why does it say that the Allies destroyed Prussia? Didn't the Nazis abolish it?
I made this video many years ago and I admit I should have explained the role of the Nazis in the downfall of Prussia. They essentially took control of the government of the Prussian state (a federal state of Germany) and later partitioned Prussia into smaller territorial units, called Gaue. The Nazis did this because they wanted a stong, unified and unopposed government. However, the "Free State of Prussia" was never abolished by the Nazis and Adolf Hitler was a great admirer of Prussia, even if it was now de facto dissolved.
The source of the statement that the Allies destroyed Prussia comes from professor Christopher Clark's book "Iron Kingdom: The Rise and Downfall of Prussia, 1600-1947". The very first words of his introduction are:
"On 25 February 1947, representatives of the Allied occupation authorities in Berlin signed a law abolishing the state of Prussia. From this moment onward, Prussia belonged to history.
'The Prussian State, which from early days has been a bearer of militarism and reaction in Germany, has de facto ceased to exist. Guided by the interests of preservation of peace and security of peoples, and with the desire to assure further reconstruction of the political life of Germany on a democratic basis, the Control Council enacts as follows:
ARTICLE I
The Prussian State together with its central government and all its agencies is abolished.'
Law No. 46 of the Allied Control Council [...]."
FAQ: Why does it say that the Allies blamed Prussia for World War 2?
This information also comes from Christopher Clark. He explains this in the documentary "Frederick the Great and the Enigma of Prussia", which can be found in the following link. At 6:12 he begins his explanation.
https://youtu.be/w5Smg5tmo3c?t=372
FAQ: What music has been used?
First track: Preußens Gloria, composed by Johann Gottfried Piefke in 1871.
Second track (from 1:29): unknown. It was used in another YouTube video which has been removed many years ago.
Last track (from 3:35): Der treue Husar, an old German folk song, here in its march version.
FAQ: Isn't Prussia a territory outside Germany inhabited by Baltic people?
The term "Prussia" is somewhat confusing, since its meaning has changed in the course of time. The Prussians were originally a Baltic (so a non-German) people, who were conquered by German crusaders in the 13th century. They slowly became germanized in the course of the following centuries - not because of ethnic policies, but because the Prussians used the language of their rulers more and more. In 1525, Prussia gained independence from this crusader "State of the Teutonic Order", but remained formally a fief of Poland (which was again part of Poland-Lithuania). In 1618, the Duchy of Prussia was inherited by the monarch of Brandenburg. In 1657, the Duchy of Prussia (the far eastern part of Brandenburg-Prussia) was no longer a fief of Poland. In 1701, the monarch of Brandenburg-Prussia raised his royal rank to "king in Prussia" (the title "king OF Prussia" came later, in 1772), thus all his lands, even those in modern-day Germany, became known as "Prussia".
FAQ: What is the difference between Prussia, Germany and the German Empire?
A good explanation would be by giving a comparison.
Germany = the United Kingdom
Prussia = England
Another example is: USA = Germany; and Texas = Prussia.
And just like England, Scotland and Wales, at one time in history all these countries were independent of one another and even fighting wars. So too was Prussia. In 1871, the German states unified and the Prussian king became the German Emperor ("Kaiser" in German).

An introduction to Prussian absolutism in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. After the Thirty Years' War, Frederick William, the Great Elector, began to build an absolutist state in Prussia-Brandenburg. He and his grandson, Frederick William I (the "Soldier King"), built Prussia into a great power by putting together the most elite military force in early modern Europe. Using a religious policy of Protestant toleration, enlisting the Junkers (nobles) as a service nobility, taxing by decree, and establishing the first system of compulsory public education, "the Fredericks" built a successful absolutist state.
This e-lecture is suitable for AP European History and Western Civilization students, as well as lifelong learners seeking to learn European history for their own viewing pleasure!

Militärmarsch Preußens Gloria (prussia glory march)
Preußens Gloria ist ein berühmter preußischer Marsch des 19. Jahrhunderts. Komponist war Musikdirektor Johann Gottfried Piefke (18151884) vom 1. Brandenburgischen Leibgrenadierregiment Nr. 8 in Frankfurt an der Oder.
Preußens Gloria is a well-known military march of the 19th century. Its composer was Johann Gottfried Piefke (1817-1884).
"Preußens Gloria" ("The Glory of Prussia" or "Prussia's Glory") was written in 1871 after the Kingdom of Prussia's victory in the Franco-Prussian War, which led to the unification of Germany. For the victory parade of the returned troops the march was performed for the first time in public in Frankfurt (Oder), the base of Piefke's garrison.
As Piefke only performed it on important occasions, the march was unknown to a broader public for a long time. In 1909 the manuscript of the almost forgotten tune turned up and was reworked by army-musical inspector Prof. Grawert. Shortly afterwards it was included in the collection of Prussian army marches.

[EDIT:11.19.12] I reached 19,000+ views on 5.26.12, and I can not believe that it has reached 120,000+ views now. I say it a lot, that I can't believe it, and that I am really thankful to you all, but I really do mean it. So thank you all once again.

So, the original idea I had for this video was for it to be a 'timeline-ish' story; where it goes from when Prussia was young, to when he was going to be dissolved. Thus, after reading too much fanfiction, making the personification (and the other personifications) think he was going to vanish/'die' as he falls asleep, thinking about how his life went. Then, he was suppose to 'wake up' and see that he was still 'alive', and 'reunite' with his 'family'/the WORLLLD. But, like the person I am, I didn't follow my idea at all D:

[EDIT: 5.26.12] On the other hand, I'm sorry to those of you who are bothered by the german sentence at the end. I've been told by multiple people it doesn't make sense, has bad grammar, etc.; but seriously, I used a translator and have no knowledge of german at all. Please understand that this video is already made and finished, and I will not be able to change anything about it even if I do get a correct translation. Neither will I ever make a video like this exact one again. Plus, I can't even re-render if I wanted to because I don't have the file anymore.

Also, Wilhelm I lived to a be 90 years old, remarkably old in those times.
Music:
0:00-0:21 Parademarsch der Spielleute
0:22-0:30 Der Preußische Lockmarsch
0:32-1:44 Der Hohenfriedberger
1:49-4:11 Königgrätzer Marsch (the part from 2:59 is the second part of the Königgrätzer Marsch)
4:16-5:18 La gazza ladra (English title: The Thieving Magpie), composed by Gioachino Rossini in 1817.

It is well known fact but it seems to have disappeared from History as it is taught in school or presented in the media.
After WW2 between 1945 and 1951 somewhere between 11 million to 14 million Germans were forced to leave their homes in East Germany and migrate West. Often they were only allowed to take what they could carry on their backs. It is estimated that somewhere between 2 and 4 million people died directly as a result of the expulsion, labour camps, prison or simply ill treatment by the hands of the new masters.
It stands as fact that this has been the biggest ehtnic cleansing in Europe until then and nothing of this magnitude has happened since then.
My personal link is that my grandparents came from Meseritz and Schwiebus which is today in occupied Germany under Polish administration.
(The last statement is of course subject to debate - still the issue has never been resolved and needs attention if the two nations want to get on in the future)
Just to clarify I am not suggesting to forcefully reverse crimes committed after 1945 - but I am seeking a public acknowledgement and apology from the Polish authorities.
The purpose of this talk is to allow others who have had their grandparents forcefully removed from East Germany to see what the area looks like today.
An appeal is made to the Polish government to acknowledge that the expulsion of 11 million Germans and the confiscation of their property was wrongful and criminal.
Enjoy the talk - if you are just interested in looking at the photos of Schwiebus and Meseritz just forward the slider to - 33 minutes.
There will be about 100 photos in a slideshow of Meseritz, Schwiebus, Krakow and 1 photo of Kattowitz airport.

PRUSSIAN FOLK SONG
Bright, bright bird sings
Stable under the wing of the dragonfly,
Run sister to garden, sister, listen,
What message bird brings.
Birdl 'brought a message
There will be a brother to go war,
There will be a brother to go war
Put flowers on hes hat.
Run sister to garden,
Bouquet brother's hat.
Decorated singing
Sobbing spent.
Cry sister, or not cry,
No longer do you not seeing me.
Expect 'my Horse
About nine Summers,
About nine Summers
At the gate singing.-
Quick, bright bird sings
At gate.
Run sister to garden, sister, listen,
What message bird brings.
Birdl 'brought a message
Here is his brother horse.
Where he remained raider.
There remained raider
They Prussian border.
There sleap men as oaks,
Piles of swords,
Piles of swords,
Piles thrown hats.
Through them Prussian borders
Blood river flows through,
Blood river flows through,
Make a bridge from the bones.
New daughter walked across
As leaves trembling.

This took me a little over 2 days to complete. The main reason why was because I couldn't hardly find any Nazi!Germany and Nazi!Prussia pictures.
