Brian Lilley of TheRebel.Media reports:
The lower Canadian dollar is good for the Canadian economy and we need to get used to that fact - those sentiments seemed to be one of the central messages of a speech given by the Governor of the Bank of Canada.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting of community leaders in Ottawa, Stephen Poloz said that the lower Canadian dollar, brought about in part due to the falling price of oil, is helping other parts of the economy.
"We have already seen stronger growth in exports of non-commodity goods such as machinery and equipment, furniture, pharmaceuticals, aerospace and electronics, to name a few," Poloz said sounding like an Ontario politician singing the praises of having a lower dollar. "This is helping to offset the weakness in the resource sector tied to lower commodity prices, but this natural process will take time to translate into more investment spending and new job creation."
In a question and answer session with the media afterwards, Poloz bristled when questioned by The Rebel, that he was cheerleading a lower dollar as helping for central Canada at the expense of Western Canada.
"It's not something to cheer for," Poloz said. "We would of course prefer oil prices to be a little higher because that is an important export for Canada."
But, the bank governor continued, there is little that he or anyone else can do about the price of oil and the price of oil and the value of the Canadian dollar look like "a pair of train tracks" lowering in value in tandem.
Poloz said the flexible exchange rate which has allowed the dollar to sink lower is an important shock absorber which allows the economy to buffer some of the impact of lower oil prices but is not a panacea which will fix what ails the Canadian economy.

Canada's economy has chalked up its longest slump since the Great Recession, from the oil patch to the factory floor, job losses and slowdown are the order of the day.
We are often told in Canada by the government and media that the US Economy is going strong and that will 'pull' Canada along.
Fact is that the US economy is struggling for the vast majority, the 0.001% are doing well, very well indeed, but the majority are facing another economic crash.
How do you think this will impact Canada? We already know that China is slowing down, their stock market has been hemorrhaging, factory orders slowing down so China is reducing resource imports. Again an impact on Canada.
Europe? Hear Harper talking up all the trade deals, but Europe is also suffering . Not only Greece but Italy, Spain, Portugal, France and even Germany could crash. Like a house of cards.
Global economy is in need of a redo but if the leaders of countries don't face up to it and stand up for the majority, not for the bankers - then we are going down. Again...
Greece should be a wake up call for all. And why doesn't the media report on this? Media is controlled by the few corporations that own them.

Canada's economy is bleeding a lot more than is being reported.
I remember seeing adds on the TV a couple of years ago promoting the Alberta Tarsands and how it was having a positive impact on a broad range of our economy.
The ads, one was for a bus conversion company making large buses in Quebec to transport workers and the other was for a manufactured home company in I think Abbatsford , that made camp housing for workers.
All these would be greatly impacted now, no follow up by the news.
BTW, looking up the spelling for 'Abbotsford' brought me to this story - Abbotsford seniors' home nurses fired and replaced to cut costs....More than two dozen nurses are being replaced in an attempt to cut costs at an Abbotsford...

There's no sugar coating it voters, Canada's and Canadians economy is in shambles.
We have a housing bubble, record household debt, glut of oil and gas in the world and depressed prices, lower demand for other resources and competition from many developing countries, Harper has drawn Canada into wars in the Middle East against a global threat. But we and the coalition won't put troops in to fight this threat, just bomb and bomb away.
Environmentally we are the joke, a sad joke of the world. There's no clear job plan by any party of leader.
Canada is screwed, we will go along with the rest of the countries building up the elite 0.00001%, reduce corporate taxes, sign trade deals to benefit the same and hope the majority don't wake up.
I am awake.

I am awake.
