In this recording you shall hear bells sounding Do4, La bem3, Mi bem3, Do 3 and La bem2.
The twin belfries of Luqa contain a set of 5 bells all cast by Prospero Barigozzi of Milano in 1928.
The largest bell weighs 3.5 tons and is one of three bells sounding the same note and also cast by Barigozzi. The other bells are found at Mellieha and the Basilica of St. George Victoria Gozo - both cast earlier in 1925. The set of bells is considered to be cast on a light profile meaning that the bells are relatively light in weight in comparison to their musical note. None of the bells is mechanically tuned from the inside and all bells are hung fixed to their headstocks and therefore ringing is achieved by manualy swinging the clapper to strike the soundbows of the bells.

Malta travel video guide:
A strategically important island, 7,000 years of history, near year-round sun, crystal clear water and one big open-air museum. This awaits you in Malta. Your Wizz Air Ambassador Petra and Brad the traveler are excited to guide you on this stunning island.
Hello! If you are looking for beautiful beaches, mysterious history, incredible scenery or all night parties then this Mediterranean island is the perfect place to be. Welcome to Malta!
Valletta - or as they call it the Fortress City -- is the capital of Malta, the administrative and commercial heart of the Islands. Today, it is one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world, so it is no wonder that this smallest of European capital cities is a world heritage site.
The narrow side streets are full of tiny quaint shops, cafés and bakeries where you can enjoy traditional Maltese food like ftira in one of the most popular artisan bakeries.
The Upper Barakka Gardens occupy the elevated space on the ramparts of St. Peter and St Paul Bastion. The garden was laid down in the mid 17th century to provide a peaceful retreat for the pastime and relaxation of the Knights.
The St. John Co-Cathedral was built in the 16th century - a baroque work of art in its architecture and sculptures, this church boasts some of the most beautiful works of art by Mattia Preti and Caravaggio himself.
By far the most famous of the island's cave complex is the Blue Grotto, a series of nine caves rocky sides of which glow green, purple, and orange according to their mineral content.
Popeye Village has grown from its days as a film set of the 1980 Musical Production 'Popeye' into one of the major tourist attractions on the Maltese Islands filled with a number of colorful fun activities for all young and young at heart. Open all year round -- it is a guaranteed enjoyable visit to all guests.
It takes only 25 minutes to get to Gozo which is a greener more rural and smaller island than Malta. It is an ideal day trip to discover great historical sites, forts and amazing panorama.
If you are into partying then you should head up to Paceville where plenty of discos and bars guarantee the amazing nightlife Malta offers.
Good-bye Brad!

The history of Mdina traces back more than 4000 years. According to tradition it was here that in 60 A.D. that the Apostle St. Paul is said to have lived after being shipwrecked on the Islands. Furthermore it is said that St. Paul resided inside the grotto know as Fuori le Mura (outside the city walls) now known as St. Paul's Grotto in Rabat. Lamp lit by night and referred to as "the silent city", Mdina is fascinating to visit for its timeless atmosphere as well as its cultural and religious treasures.

"Save these antique fire engines in Peshawar" 2008
This is an update: Finally some GREAT news, thanks to efforts of private enthusiasts, civil society heritage bodies and the Culture and Tourism department of the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly NWFP) the fire engines rolled out of their shed in Gor Khatri for renovation in June 2010. Mohsin & Romano experts of the Vintage & Classic Car Club of Pakistan deserve credit for giving a new life to these priceless beauties, which were at the verge of turning into metal junk.
Maureen Lines' FHT, SCN, Albert Godin, Riaz Noor (ex Chief Sec NWFP) , Sufyan Kakakhel, Azam Khan MD STC and the museum authorities deserve credit for making this happen. A big thank you to all. Time line:- 2002: SCN report by Sufyan Kakakhel & Shaheen Buneri appeared in newspapers. 2005: Fire Engines were featured in Insight Travel Guide to Pakistan whose NWFP section was edited by me, 2007-8: Efforts to save the fire engines intensified. Albert Godin introduced Mohsin Ikram and Romano Karim Yusaf of VCCCP to SCN/ FHT. Ishrat Hayyat published a report in The News. 2009: FHT made a proposal for restoration and sent it to the Culture and Tourism Dept. Sarhad Tourism Coporation responded positively and recommended Culture Dept to sanction a sum of Rs 2 Million to FHT for their preservation. 2010: Fire Engines transported to a shed in University Town, Peshawar for renovation.
A big thank you to all those involved in saving our heritage! -- ALI JAN

Entry from: Valletta, Malta
Entry Title: "Military History of Malta (partial)"
Entry:
"Today was my first day in Malta and lots to do & see. I did not get up early because I stayed up chatting last night too late but that's okay. After a delicious breakfast at the hotel (included) I set off to discover the city of Valletta. I took the bus and after 20 minutes or so I was dropped off at the entrance of the old city of Valletta just outside the rampart walls. I grabbed a map and off I went to start exploring. My first stop was to be the Upper Barrakka Gardens. There I found some well dressed soldiers who informed me that in a few minutes there would be the firing of the noon-day canon. My timing was perfect! They also informed me I could purchase a combination tour at a discount for the Saluting Battery (noon-day gun firing), the Malta at War museum, and Fort Rinella and its Armstrong 100 ton gun. Well, how could I resist!!!
The visit to the "Malta at war museum" was very interesting with its facts and history but it really came alive thanks to our guide. Although, he was very young (21 years old), he had a passion for his country's rich history and a knowledge that if we forget the past we are sure to repeat it. He also mentioned that he forgave everyone but would not forget to avoid such repeats. His family had fought for Malta for nearly 400 years. Incredible.
It was a day well, spent, full of military activities and history as it relates to Malta, its people and war. Very interesting and I highly recommend all three during your visit to Valletta. The whole deal included transportation to all 3 sights and return to Valletta. A great value (€22).
Once I returned to Valletta, I decided to follow my initial plan and walk around the old town looking at the architecture. It is truly fascinating that many buildings seem to have been there forever and it is even more so now that I have seen how much destruction was inflicted on the island by the Germans and Italians during WWII. I also found that the design is not at all of the style I was expecting. Although there is influence of the classical period on the Churches, etc. the most predominant feature I found was the Moorish influence. The Knights of Malta spent their lives fighting the "infidel" yet took a lot from them. I like it.
Since we are talking about the influences on the Knights, the Maltese language has also been extremely influenced by the Arab world they were trying to "change" many centuries ago. I can hear Arabic, Italian, French and a little English in the spoken language. It is truly mesmerizing. I love it here.
The weather was not great and complete sunshine as I had hoped but all in all it was a good decent day."
