Michael McDonald (born February 12, 1952) is a five-time Grammy Award winning American singer and songwriter. McDonald is known for a soulful baritone singing style and a multi-octave range. He began his career singing back-up vocals with Steely Dan. He became a member of the Doobie Brothers from 1976 to 1981, a period which resulted in several hit songs for the band.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, McDonald played in several local bands (such as Mike and the Majestics, Jerry Jay and the Sheratons, the Reeb-Toors, the Del Rays and The Guild) while attending McCluer High School in his hometown of Ferguson, Missouri. McDonald was discovered while playing with a group called Blue and consequently moved to Los Angeles in 1970.
Michael McDonald became one of the many in-studio adjunct members of the group Steely Dan, providing back-up vocals on tracks for 1975's Katy Lied. He would return on subsequent Steely Dan recordings including 1976's The Royal Scam and 1977's Aja. He also played keyboards on some Steely Dan tracks. McDonald continued to do background vocals for Steely Dan through their 1980 release, Gaucho. He was part of Steely Dan's last touring band in the 1970s, playing keyboards and singing backup.
Plot
It's 1979 and Kenny Loggins is one of the biggest stars on the pop music scene. The recording process of his third LP, "Keep The Fire" is nearly complete... his only problem is the album cover. The label wants to re-hash old standards, but Kenny has something better in mind. KEEP THE FIRE, tells the remarkable strange story behind the album cover.
Don't Be Affraid...KEEP THE FIRE!

Love is the answer to a child
Just as hope is the answer to us all
But it's there at the beginning
That we learn to hope at all
And God help us if we don't
Chorus:
Tell me where is this place
From which there's no return
What can we know of another road
From the one that we made
With our anger and our rage
We dare not go where there is no hope
Not even for a child
If dreams fly over the rainbow
Truth lies waiting for us all
If siren's voices cloud our reason
Can we still resist their call
'cause God help us if we don't
Chorus:
For so many people livin' their whole lives
Waiting to be saved
For so many chilren taking that short trip
Old man winter's coming on
The nights are long and the days are gray
The fading sound of the robin's song
Summer days seem a lifetime away
It's the time that we look to each other
To raise our spirits, chase the blues away
That time of year when we all get together
I see it comin' I can hardly wait
It's all right I can't stop thinkin' 'bout it
It's a good life, no time to be sad
I feel so right every time Christmas comes around
Feel so right baby
Children's laughter and the snow on the ground
Starts lifting my heart up baby
I feel love and the joy all around
That's how I know that it's Christmas darlin'
So glad that we've still got each other
And this love is a gift we'll exchange
A prayer for peace for my sisters and brothers
Let's ring the bell and bring on the holidays
It's all right I can't stop thinkin' 'bout it
It's a good life, no time to be sad
I feel so right every time Christmas comes around
Merry Christmas, baby
So glad that we've still got each other
And this love is a gift we'll exchange
A prayer for peace for my sisters and brothers
Let's ring the bell and bring on the holidays
It's all right I can't stop thinkin' 'bout it
It's a good life, no time to be sad
I feel so right I know I'm gonna see it
It's all right I can't stop thinkin' 'bout it
It's a good life, no time to be sad
I feel so right every time Christmas comes around
I can't stop thinkin' 'bout it
It's a good life, no time to be sad
I feel so right I know we're gonna see it
It's all right I can't stop thinkin' 'bout it
It's a good life, no time to be sad
I feel so right every time Christmas comes around
It's all right I can't stop thinkin' 'bout it
It's a good life, no time to be sad
I needed the shelter of someone's arms
And there you were
I needed someone to understand my ups and downs
And there you were
With sweet love and devotion
Deeply touching my emotion
I wanna stop and thank you baby
I just wanna stop and thank you baby
How sweet it is to be loved by you
Like honey to the bee, baby
How sweet it is to be loved by you
I close my eyes at night
Wondering where would I be without you in my life
Everything was just a bore
All the things I did seemed undone never before
But you brighten up all my days
With a love so sweet in so many ways
I wanna, I wanna thank you baby
I just wanna thank you baby
Oh now, how sweet it is to be loved by you
Like sugar to my soul baby
How sweet it is to be loved by you
You were better to me than I was to myself
For me there's you and there ain't nobody else
I wanna thank you baby
I just wanna stop and thank you baby
How sweet it is to be loved by you
Like sugar to my soul baby
How sweet it is to be loved by you
No baby, how sweet it is, how sweet it is now baby
Oh no, like sugar to my soul baby
Hey, 'coz I love you baby
No, you make me something baby
I guess that we could always want for something more
But then how much is enough?
So much for all the things we know we can't afford
I don't need any more stuff, babe
Let everybody else rush around, fight the crowds
Only to ask themselves why
All I need is just some mistletoe, you and I
And baby, I'm satisfied right here in your arms
Baby, we got a house full of love, babe
We got a house full of love
Might not be rich enough, baby, we got love
And that's all we really need
We got a house full of love
So baby, come to me and sit here by the fire
And let the world rush on by
We'll find the magic of a Christmas long ago
Just like the very first time
Let everybody else lose their minds, wait in line
Only to ask themselves why
All I need is just to be with you Christmas Eve
That's all the present that I'll ever need
Baby, we got a house full of love, babe
We got a house full of love
Might not be strong enough, baby, we got love
And that's all we'll ever need
We got a house full of love
We got a house full of love now, baby
All I need is just to be with you Christmas Eve
That's all the present that I'll ever need, no
Baby, we got a house full of love
We got a house full of love
We got a house full of love
We got a house full of love
We got a house full of love

It was so right, it was so wrong
Almost at the same time
The pain and ache a heart can take
No one really knows
When the memories cling and keep you there
Till you no longer care
And you can let go now
It's wrong for me to cling to you
Somehow I just needed time
From what was to be-it's not like me
To hold somebody down
Chorus:
But I was tossed high by love
I almost never came down
Only to land here
Where love's no longer found
Where I'm no longer bound
Shattered dreams, worthless years,
Here am I encased inside a hollow shell,
Life began, then was done,
Now I stare into a cold and empty well
The many sounds that meet our ears
the sights our eyes behold,
Will open up our merging hearts,
And feed our empty souls
I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever,
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever
Without despair we will share,
And the joys of caring will not be replaced,
What has been must never end
And with the strength we have won't be erased
When the truths of love are planted firm,
They won't be hard to find,
And the words of love I speak to you
will echo in your mind
I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever,
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever
I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever,
I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever
I'm so glad that I found someone to believe in again,
I'm so glad that I found someone to believe in again
God surely answered my prayer,
God surely answered by prayer,
You know God surely answered my prayer,
You know God surely answered my prayer,
God always will answer your prayers,
Believe in one who will answer my prayer,
Thank you God
Come on, let's fall in love,
You're the woman I've been waiting for,
Come on, let's fall in love,
You're the girl that I really adore,
Hey girl, want you to know
I'm gonna miss you so much if you go
Hey girl, tell you no lie
Somethin' deep inside of me is goin' to die
If you say so long, if this is goodbye
Hey girl, this can't be true
How am I supposed to exist without you?
And hey girl, don't put me on
What's gonna happen to me when you're gone?
How will I live? How can I go on? How can I go on? Hey
Hey girl, now sit yourself down
I'm not ashamed to get down on the ground
And beg you, beg you to stay
Don't go away, hey girl, don't go away
Hey girl, don't go, oh don't go, baby, no, no
Hey, stay
Hey girl, no, no, no, no, please, baby
Don't go, don't go, don't go, don't go, baby
Hey girl, no, no, baby, hey, don't go away

When the morning breaks with the rising sun
Our past mistakes are gonna be undone
'cause no other love could have opened my eyes
To the simple joy of just being alive
'cause in this world it still takes love to get the word started
Talkin' 'bout change just ain't enough to get the word started
We gotta show the world what we're made of, get the word started
These times are gonna get rough, so get the word started
Right now
When shadows fall, our love will shine
On all the good things baby that are left to find
If we don't believe that have half a chance
He was born on the roadside
Where hopelessness breeds
Where pride is hard to come by
And violence fills a need
Lord, what will the answer be?
Lookin' from his point of view
'Cause here on these desperate streets
Better a short lived legend
Then a long life played for a fool
Homeboy wants to rule the hot town
But the innocent will fall
Santa Ana blows across the killin' ground
Sweeps away what mercy is left to be found
A child on a corner, instrument of greed
Seduced without knowing the harsh reality
Lord, what will the answer be?
Is there nothing we can do?
To save him on these desperate streets
Better a long life of tryin'
Than a short life playin' to lose
Homeboy wants to rule the hot town
But the innocent will fall
Santa Ana blows across the killin' ground
Sweeps away what mercy is left to be found
Nowhere, nowhere to be found
Lord, what will the answer be?
Is there nothing You can do?
To save us on these desperate streets
Better a long life of tryin'
Than a shorter life playin' to lose
Homeboy wants to rule the hot town
But the innocent will fall
Well, Santa Ana blows across the killin' ground
Sweeps away what mercy is left to be found

People keep on learnin'
Soldiers keep on warrin'
World keep on turnin'
Cause it won't be too long
Powers keep on lyin'
While your people keep on dyin'
World keep on turnin'
Cause it won't be too long
I'm so darn glad he let me try it again
Cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin
I'm so glad that I know more than I knew then
Gonna keep on tryin'
Till I reach my highest ground
Teachers keep on teachin'
Preachers keep on preachin'
World keep on turnin'
Cause it won't be too long
Oh no
Lovers keep on lovin'
Believers keep on believin'
Sleepers just stop sleepin'
Cause it won't be too long
Oh no
I'm so glad that he let me try it again
Cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin
I'm so glad that I know more than I knew then
Gonna keep on tryin'
Till I reach my highest ground...Whew!
Till I reach my highest ground
No one's gonna bring me down
Oh no
Till I reach my highest ground
Don't let nobody bring you down (they'll sho 'nuff try)
God is gonna show you higher ground
He's the only friend you have around
He came somewhere back in her long ago
The sentimental fool don't see
Tryin' hard to recreate
What had yet to be created once in her like
She musters a smile
For his nostalgic tale
Never coming near what he wanted to say
Only to realize
It never really was
She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As she rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go
But what a fool believes, he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
And nothing at all
Keeps sending him
Somewhere back in her long ago
Where he can still believe there's a place in her life
Someday, somewhere, she will return
She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As she rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go
But what a fool believes, he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
There's nothing at all
People say I'm the life of a party
'Cause I tell a joke or two
Although I maybe laughin' loud and hearty
Deep inside I'm blue
So take a good look at my face
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears, I need you
When you're gone if you see me with another girl
Acting like I'm havin' fun
Although she may be cute, she's just a substitute, girl
'Cause you're the permanent one
So take a good look at my face
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears, no, no baby
Outside, I've been masquerading
Outside, my hope is fading
Outside, since you put me down
My smile is my make up
I wear since my break up with you
People say I'm the life of the party
'Cause I tell a joke or two
Although I maybe laughin' loud and hearty
Deep inside I'm blue
Since you're gone if you see me with another girl
Actin' like I'm havin' fun
Although she may be cute, she's just a substitute
You're the permanent one
People say I'm the life of the party
'Cause I tell a joke or two

Actin' like I'm havin' fun
Although she may be cute, she's just a substitute
The eyes of a child, so innocent and pure
A child's heart is full of song
Take their tiny hands and lead them to the light
As adults we see the pain in the world
And sometimes it don't seem right
But through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes
They've yet to realize
The darkness in their soul
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Life is kinda gay
But it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child
So don't give up
Even when the road seems long
Just find that child inside you
You've got to find you
Spread your wings and fly, to the brightest star
If ya want, I can even get
My friend Steve to detail your car
For about twenty bucks
Through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes
They've yet to realize
The darkness in their soul
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Sure, life is kinda gay
But it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child
Got an eye on my hand
I've got an eye on my hand
I've got an eye on my hand
But still I can't find you
An eye on my hand
Where have you gone, girl?
An eye on my hand
I'm coming up behind you, eye on my hand
Don't turn around now 'cause I'm right there
I'm coming up behind you
Through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes
We've yet to realize
The bastards they really are
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Sure, life is kinda gay
But it doesn't seem that way

Duet with James Ingram
Heavenly father watching us all
We take from each other
and give nothing at all
Well it's a dog-gone shame
but never too late for change
So if your luck runs low
just reach out and call
his name, his name
(chorus)
Yah mo be there (up and over)
Yah mo be there (up and over)
Yah mo be there (up and over)
Yah mo be there (up and over)
Whenever you call
Never be lonely lost in the night
Just run from the darkness
Looking for the light
'cause it's a long hard road
That leads to a brighter day (hey)
Don't let your heart grow cold
just reach out and call
his name, his name
(chorus)
You can count on it brother
'cause we're all just finding our way
Travelling through time
People got to keep pushing on
No matter how many dreams slip away
Yah mo be there
Well it's a dog-gone shame
but never too late for change
So when your luck runs low
just reach out and call
Words and music by Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins
Maybe it's true what they say about it
Maybe we can't make the ends meet
Maybe we'll all have to do without it
Maybe this world's just incomplete
Still we all look for the truth in our lives
Searching from different sides
So hard living in a desperate world
But we all do the best that we can
(chorus 1)
Some people see a change
Some will remain the same
But all of them live
their lives under the gun
Some see the road as clear
Some say the end is here
They say it's a hopeless fight
well I say I gotta try
Maybe there's too much to think about it
Maybe there ain't nothin' left to say
But if our time's really runnin' out
Then this is no time to run away
'Cause we're destined to look
for the truth in this life
Blinded by tearful eyes
If it's no use tryin'
in a desperate world
then tell me why was I born
(chorus 2)
Some people see a change
Some will remain the same
But all of them live
their lives under the gun
Some see the road as clear
Some say the end is here
They say it's a hopeless fight
but I say I gotta try
Lonely, living too lonely
Is it too late
to turn it all around?
(chorus 2)
(sung simultaneously with chorus 2)
Someone's tryin'
Someone's cryin' out
While we live under the gun
Someone's livin'
I bet you're wondering how I knew
What you're plans to make me blue
With some other guy you knew before
Between the two of us caught, you know I love you more
It took me by surprise I must say when I found out yesterday
Don't you know, I heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine
Oh, I heard it through the grapevine
And I'm just about to lose my mind, honey, honey yea
I know a man ain't supposed to cry
But these tears I can't hold inside
Losin' you would end my life you see
'Cause you mean that much to me
You could have told me yourself that you love someone else
Instead I heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine
Oh, I heard it through the grapevine
And I'm just about lose my mind
People say believe half of what you see
So believe none of what you hear
Well I can't help being confused
If it's true please tell me dear
Do you plan to let me go?
For the other guy you left me for
Don't you know I heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine
Oh, I heard it through the grapevine
And I'm just about to lose my mind
Honey honey, yea
Honey honey, yea
Honey honey, love
That you let me go
Said, "I heard it through the grapevine"
Heard it, heard it through the grapevine
Said, "I heard it through the grapevine"
Honey honey, love
Ooh baby, yeah
I'm gonna do all the things for you
A girl wants a man to do, oh baby
(Baby)
I'll sacrifice for you
I'll even do wrong for you, oh baby
Every minute every hour
I'm gonna shower you with love and affection
Girl it's coming in your direction, baby
I'm gonna make you love me
Oh yes I will, yes I will
I?m gonna make you love me
Yes I will, yes I will
My love is strong you see
I know you'll never get tired of me
Oh baby
(Oh baby)
And I'm gonna try every trick in the book
I'll try my best to get you hooked
Oh baby
(Oh baby)
Every night, every day, I'm gonna say
Hey, I'm gonna get you
(I'm gonna get you)
Baby, I'm gonna get you
(I'm gonna get you)
I'm gonna make you love me
Oh yes I will, yes I will
I?m gonna make you love me
Yes I will, yes I will
I'm gonna make you love me
Yes I will, yes I will
I?m gonna make you love me
Yes I will, yes I will
(Yes I will baby)
I'm gonna make you love me
(You hold my heart in your hand)
Yes I will, yes I will
(Baby don't you understand)
I?m gonna make you love me
(I'm gonna make you love me)
Yes I will, yes I will
How do I please you
How do I please you
How do I please you
How do I please you
Girl, in your one way heart
In your one track mind
How do I please you
How do I please you
Oh, when I say that you're the only one
I'm not tryin' to fool you, baby
Well, I'm only here to get the job done
'Cause you're so used to getting what you want
Well, look no further, baby
If that's what it takes
I don't need to know anymore
Ain't no doubt about it
That's what I came here for
So how do I please you
How do I please you
Girl, in your one way heart
In your one track mind
How do I please you
How do I please you
Well, I don't know much about the life you lead
But it ain't enough just to offer my heart
Girl, I know I could get you what you need
'Cause you're so use to getting what you want
Well, look no further, baby
If that's what it takes
I don't need to know anymore
Ain't no doubt about it
That's what I came here for
If that's what it takes
I ain't gonna lose any time
Whatever you want from me, baby
It's the middle of the night
It's been a long hard day
I see you walk my way
Say it baby, I want you
The jukebox laughing low
At the sad motel, knows
That I can't break your spell
Say it baby, I want you
It's my life and I know
Even though you don't show me
Am I right? Am I wrong
To believe in you? Yeah, yeah
Hey, hey, hey
I was born in Lil' Rock
Had a childhood sweetheart
We were always hand in hand
I was high top shoes and shirt tails
Suzy was in pig tails
I know, I loved her even then
You know my papa disapproved it
My mama boohooed it
(Boohooed)
But I told them time and time again
"Don't you know I was made to love her
(I was made to love her)
Built a world around her"
(Built a world around her)
Yah, hey, hey, hey
She's been my inspiration
Showed appreciation
For the love I gave her through the years
(Hey, hey, hey)
Like a sweet magnolia tree
(Sweet magnolia tree)
My love blossomed tenderly
My love grew sweeter through the years
I know that my baby loves me
(My baby loves me)
My baby needs me
(My baby needs me)
That's why we made it through the years
(I was made to love)
Worship and adore her
(Worship and adore her)
Hey, hey, hey
Oh, all through thick and thin
Our love just won't end
'Cause I love my baby, love my baby, ah
Built my world all around her
Hey, hey, hey
I was made to love
Worship and adore her
Hey, hey, hey
(I was made to love her)
Built my world all around her
Hey, hey, hey
My baby loves me
(My baby loves me)
My baby needs me
(Needs me)
And I know our love grew through the years
(Hey, hey, hey)
Ooh, I'll know, my baby loves me
Maybe you wanna give me kisses sweet
But for only one night with no repeat
Maybe you'll go away and never call
But a taste of honey is worse than not at all
Oh little girl in that case I don't want no part
Well do believe
That would only break my heart
If you feel like lovin' me
If you've got the notion
Second that emotion
If you feel like givin' me
A lifetime of devotion
Second that emotion
Maybe you think that love would tie you down
And you don't have the time to hang around
Maybe you think that love was made for fools
And so it makes you wise to break the rules
Oh little girl in that case I don't want no part
Do believe
That would only break my heart
If you feel like lovin' me
If you've got the notion
Second that emotion
If you feel like givin' me
A lifetime of devotion
Second that emotion
Oh little girl in that case I don't want no part
Do believe
That would only break my heart
If you feel like lovin' me
If you've got the notion
Second that emotion
If you feel like givin' me
A lifetime of devotion
Second that emotion
No no baby
I second that emotion
No no
Second that emotion
Hang on baby
Hey you'll kill me hangin' on girl
Can't hang just along baby
No greater power, no greater gift to lose
Then the message unspoken, the silence of the truth
Alone we hide in the shadows
But together we bring on the light
One voice is not strong enough
One heart just won't do
In this world, I don't count for much
Unless I stand for you
Oh, we are the beginning of a sound that might be heard
To the many who lie waiting
Our words break through the cold grip of silence
And they guide us through the night
One voice is not strong enough
One heart just won't do
In this world, I don't count for much
Unless I stand for you
One choice is all we got
One fact remains true
In this world, I don't count for much
Unless I stand for you
Not another minute, not another hour
We're gonna rise on up every man, woman and child
(I believe that the time has come)
Oh, I stand for you, alone we hide in the shadows
I keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear
I keep forgettin' it all
Every time you're near
Every time I see your smile
Hear your hello
Saying you can only stay a while
Hey, I know that it's hard for you
To say the things
We both know are true
But tell me how come
I keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear
I keep forgettin', babe
Every time I hear
How you never want to live a lie
How it's gone too far
And you don't have to tell me why
Why you're gone and why the game is through
If this is what's real
If this is what's true
Tell me how come
I keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear
I keep forgettin'
Don't say that, don't say that, don't say that
I know you're not mine anymore, anyway, anytime
Tell me how come
I keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear
I keep forgettin', baby
I keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear
(Jerry Leiber/Mike Stoller/Michael McDonald/Ed Sanford)
[Chorus:]
I keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear
I keep forgettin'
Everytime you're near
Everytime I see you smile
Hear your "hello"
Saying you can only stay a while
Hey, I know that it's hard for you
To say the things that we both know are true
But tell me how come (I)
[Chorus]
Everytime I hear
How you never want to live a lie
How it's gone to far
And you don't have to tell me why
Why you're gone and the game is through
If this is what's real, if this is what's true
Tell me how come (I)
[Chorus]
Don't say that, don't say that, don't say that
I know you're not mine anymore-anyway-anytime
But tell me how come (I)
[Chorus]
I have come from so far away
Down the road of my own mistakes
In the hope you could hear me pray
Oh Lord, keep me in Your reach
How I've longed through these wasted years
To outrun all the pain and fear
Turned to stone from my uncried tears
And now it's Your grace I seek
Love won't compromise
It's a gift, it's a sacrifice
My soul renewed and my heart released
In you I'll find my peace
Oh wondrous child of whom the Angels sing
Know my joy, feels my suffering
Shining star make this love you bring
So bright that I may believe
That my way will not be lost
From now on, till that river's crossed
My soul renewed and my spirit free
In You I'll find my peace
Ooh baby, yeah
I'm gonna do all the things for you
A girl wants a man to do, oh baby
(Baby)
I'll sacrifice for you
I'll even do wrong for you, oh baby
Every minute every hour
I'm gonna shower you with love and affection
Girl it's coming in your direction, baby
I'm gonna make you love me
Oh yes I will, yes I will
I?m gonna make you love me
Yes I will, yes I will
My love is strong you see
I know you'll never get tired of me
Oh baby
(Oh baby)
And I'm gonna try every trick in the book
I'll try my best to get you hooked
Oh baby
(Oh baby)
Every night, every day, I'm gonna say
Hey, I'm gonna get you
(I'm gonna get you)
Baby, I'm gonna get you
(I'm gonna get you)
I'm gonna make you love me
Oh yes I will, yes I will
I?m gonna make you love me
Yes I will, yes I will
I'm gonna make you love me
Yes I will, yes I will
I?m gonna make you love me
Yes I will, yes I will
(Yes I will baby)
I'm gonna make you love me
(You hold my heart in your hand)
Yes I will, yes I will
(Baby don't you understand)
I?m gonna make you love me
(I'm gonna make you love me)
Yes I will, yes I will
(Yes I will)
Baby, I need your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Although you're never near
Your voice I often hear
Another day
Another night
I long to hold you tight
'Cause I'm so lonely
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Some say it's a sign of weakness
For a man to beg
Then weak I'd rather be
If it means having you to keep
'Cause lately I've been losin' sleep
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Empty nights
Echo your name
Oh sometimes I wonder
Will I ever be the same? Oh yeah!
When you see me smile
You know things have gotten worse
Any smile you might see, darlin'
Has all been rehearsed
Darlin', I can't go on living without you
This emptiness won't let me live without you
Loneliness inside me, baby
Makes me feel half alive
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Got to have all your lovin'
Be on my side, I'll be on your side baby
There's no reason for you to hide
It's so hard for me standin' here all alone
When you could be takin' me for a ride
Ooh la la la
She could drag me over the rainbow
And take me away
Down by the river
I shot my baby
Down by the river
Dead
Take my hand, I'll take your hand baby
Together we might get away
This much madness is too much sorrow
It's impossible to make it today
Ooh la la la
She could drag me over the rainbow
And take me away
Down by the river
I shot my baby
Down by the river
Dead
Be on my side, I'll be on your side baby
There's no reason for you to hide
It's so hard for me standin' here all alone
When you could be takin' me for a ride
Ooh la la la
She could drag me over the rainbow
And take me away
Down by the river
I shot my baby
Down by the river
It is the song that fills the night
The star that lights our way
So begin our greatest hope
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing
Come, adore on bended knee
Christ, the Lord, our newborn King

It's not enough, there's never enough¡
As we look out on a world
Full of people, places and things
They seem so important to us
There's no harm in that girl
But for all the joy it can bring
We know that's not all we're gonna find
But when it comes to you and me
I know the most important part
Is what we have in our hearts
Baby it's all we really need
When all those things are never enough
In this world of everything or nothin' baby
Remember, this love is all we got, babe
As we travel down the road
To make our dreams come true
We know that things are gonna change
But when it comes to you and me
If we look back to the start
When all we shared was in our hearts
We could have a house in the country
We could drive a big fine car
We could set our sights on tomorrow
We could hitch a ride on the brightest star
'cause all those things could never be enough
In this world of everything or nothing
Remember baby, this love is all we got
This love is all we got, babe
When it comes to money
Fame¡
Power¡
People, places and things
All is fair in love
Love's a crazy game
Two people vow to stay
In love as one they say
But all is changed with time
The future no one can see
The road you leave behind
Ahead lies mystery
But all is fair in love
I had to go away
A writer takes his pen
To write the words again
That all in love is fair
All of fate's a chance
It's either good or bad
I tossed my coin to say
In love with me you'd stay
But all in war is so cold
You either win or lose
When all is put away
The loosing side I'll play
But all is fair in love
I should never have left your side
A writer takes his pen
To write the words again
That all in love is fair
A writer takes his pen
To write the words again

LIKE A RIVER RUNNIN¡¯ TO THE SEA
THERE MUST BE A REASON FOR ALL THESE SHATTERED DREAMS

IF I¡¯M NOT CAREFUL I MIGHT CONVINCE MYSELF
THIS IS THE WAY IT¡¯S ALWAYS GONNA BE
SPEND MY WHOLE LIFE WONDERIN¡¯ JUST WHAT IT MEANS TO SURVIVE

I¡¯M ASKIN¡¯ FOR NOTHIN¡¯ MORE THAN A LITTLE HOPE
ANOTHER MORNIN¡¯ STRANGE AS IT SEEMS

LEAVING NOTHIN¡¯ BUT WRECKAGE AND PAIN BEHIND
CHORUS:
ALL I NEED (IS) JUST ONE ANSWER I¡¯M LOOKIN¡¯ FOR
I¡¯M ASKIN¡¯ FOR NOTHIN¡¯ MORE¡

I met a man standing on the street today
Through his eyes, the world looked so grim
As if we all don't know just what it's like
When the rain falls down and the lightning strikes
But then girl, I've been runnin' most of my life
And I've been around long enough to learn
That one man's blue sky is another man's rain
And no matter what is in it for me, I only know for him
Chorus:
These are bad times
These are real bad times
These are sad times
These are bad times
I know we each bear the brunt of our lies
But not until the spirit sinks so low
Does a man start to feel all alone
And when he turns his back on trust
Then they've only just begun
Chorus:
Oh, I can see there ain't much good left to save
If all we have, we let time erase
But I can still make the blues fade away
Baby, baby
You don't understand
How much I love you baby
And how much I want to be your only man, oh baby
Baby, baby, baby
You don't have to go
Stay a little while longer baby
I want to talk to you just a little more
I see the tears in your eyes about to fall
You are wondering if I'm for real
But if you cry, oh I wonder if you cry
Oh I know, baby this is I feel
Baby, I'm for real
Baby, I'm for real
Baby, I'm for real
Baby, I'm for real
Baby, I'm for real
But if you wanna know the truth about it
Girl, I just can't live without you
That's why I'm confessing my love to you
So I could live my whole life with you
Baby, baby, baby
(Baby, I'm for real)
Oh baby
(Baby, I'm for real)
No, no
(Baby, I'm for real)
Never, never, never gonna leave you now baby
(Baby, I'm for real)
Oh this is how I feel
(Baby, I'm for real)
(Baby, I'm for real)
(Baby, I'm for real)
(Baby, I'm for real)
Baby, I need your lovin'
Baby, I need your lovin'
Although you're never near

I'm not used to saying things like that
'cause all my best intentions fall so flat
But when it comes down to it
My love for you knows no limit, darling
I'll say, I'll do
Chorus:
Any foolish thing to call on your affection
Any foolish thing to show how much I care
Any foolish thing that we say might come about
(any foolish thing that we say might just come true)
Don't take it lightly, girl
'cause it could just work out
(I'd bet it all on you)
That this love won't be any foolish thing
I know you don't believe in every line you hear
Forgive me if I'm sounding too sincere
But I can't take chances you might slip away
While I wait for the right time
And place to say
Chorus:
Could turn you away
Can lead you astray
Or shadow this love I feel
Anything I say
Might make you see
That deep in my heart
Your love is safe with me
You do me wrong and still I'm crazy 'bout you
Stay away too long and I can't do without you
Every chance you get you seem to hurt me more and more
But each hurt just makes my love stronger than before
I know flowers grow through rain, but how can love grow through pain
Ain't that peculiar
A peculiarity
Ain't that peculiar, baby
Peculiar as can be
You tell me lies that should be obvious to me
But I'm in so much love with you, baby that I don't want to see
That the things you do and say are designed to make me blue
It's a doggone shame, my love for you makes all your lies seem true
If the truth makes love last longer why do lies make love stronger
Ain't that peculiar
A peculiarity
Ain't that peculiar, baby
Ain't nothin' like the real thing, baby
Ain't nothin' like the real thing, no, no
Ain't nothin' like the real thing, baby (Ain't nothin')
Ain't nothin' like the real thing
Ooh, I've got your picture hangin' on my wall
But it can't see or come to me
When I call your name (When I call your name)
I realize it's just a picture in a frame
I read your letters when you're not near
But they don't move me and they don't groove me
Like when I hear (When I'm in your arms)
Your sweet voice whispering in my ear (In my ear)
No other sound
Is quite the same as your name (Quite the same as your name)
No touch can do half as much to make me feel better
So let's stay together
Ooh, I've got memories (Memories) to look back on
Though they help when you're gone
I'm well aware (I'm well aware)
Nothin' can take the place of you being there (Being there)
Ain't nothin' like the real thing, baby (Ain't nothin')
Ain't nothin' like the real thing, ooh baby
By Michael McDonald and John Scott Sherrill
You if anyone should know that time will tell.
Not so long ago, you taught me oh so well.
Now your time has come;
Someone took your place.
No need to tell me that he's gone;
I can read it on your face.
Chorus:
You learn that you can dream every night.
You can try all you like.
You can pray every day that it's enough.
And you can hope all you want;
It's something to hang your faith on,
But you can't make it love.
There's no way love can grow
If only one is true.
I would think that you would know;
After all, I learned this from you.
No matter how much one's in love,
As long as one is lying,
There ain't no amount of tears;
There ain't no amount of trying.
Chorus:
You learn that you can dream every night.
You can try all you like.
You can pray every day that it's enough.
And you can hope all you want;
It's something to hang your faith on,
But you can't make it love.
Why'd you tell me this?
Were you looking for my reaction?
What do you need to know?
Don't you know I'll always be your girl
You don't have to prove to me
You're beautiful to strangers
I've got loving eyes of my own
You belong to me
Tell her you were fooling
You don't even know her
Tell her that I love you
You belong to me
Can it be, honey
That you're not sure
You belong to me
Thought we'd closed the book
Locked the door
You don't have to prove to me
That you're beautiful to strangers
I've got loving eyes of my own
And I can tell, I can tell, darling
Tell her, tell her that I love you
You belong, you belong
You belong to me
Tell her you were fooling
Tell her she don't even know you
Tell her you were fooling
I know you from a long time ago, baby
Don't leave me to go to her now
Today I saw somebody
Who looked just like you
She walked like you do
I thought it was you
An' as she turned the corner
I called out your name
I felt so ashamed
'Cause it wasn't you
Wasn't you
You are everything
And everything is you
You are everything
Everything is you
Oh, you are everything
And everything is you
How can I forget
When each face that I see
Brings back memories
Of being with you
Oh baby, I just can't go on
Living life as I do
Comparing each one with you
'Cause they just won't do
They're not you
No baby, you are everything
And everything is you
Oh, you are everything
And everything is you
Oh, you are everything
And everything is you
Everything
Everything you are to me baby
No, no everything
Please baby, everything
You, you are everything
(James Ingram/Michael McDonald/Rod Temperton/Quincy Jones)
Heavenly father watching us all
We take from each other and give nothing at all
Well it's a dog-gone shame
But never too late for change
So if your luck runs low
Just reach out and call his name, his name
[Chorus:]
Yah mo be there (up and over)
Yah mo be there (up and over)
Yah mo be there (up and over)
Yah mo be there (up and over)
Whenever you call
Never be lonely lost in the night
Just run from the darkness
Looking for the light
'cause it's a long hard road
That leads to a brighter day (hey)
Don't let your heart grow cold
Just reach out and call his name, his name
[Chorus]
You can count on it brother
'cause we're all just finding our way
Travelling through time
People got to keep pushing on
No matter how many dreams slip away
Yah mo be there
Well it's a dog-gone shame
But never too late for change
So when your luck runs low
Just reach out and call his name, his name
Now baby
Like the sweet morning dew, I took one look at you
And it was plain to see, you were my destiny
With arms open wide, I threw away my pride
I'll sacrifice for you, dedicate my life to you
I will go where you lead
Always there in times of need
And when I lose my will
You'll be there to push me up the hill
There's no, no looking back for us
We got love sure 'nough, that's enough
You're all, you're all I need to get by
Like an eagle protects his nest
For you I'll do my best
Stand by you like a tree
Dare anybody to try and move me
Darling in you I found
Strength, when I was thrown down
Don't know what's in store
But together we can open any door
Just to do what's good for you
And inspire you a little bit higher
I know you can make a man
Out of a soul that didn't have a goal
'Cause we, we got the right foundation
And with the love and determination
You're all, you're all I want to strive for
And try a little more for
All, all the joys under the sun
Wrapped up into one
You're all, you're all I need, you're all I need
All, all, to get by
(You're all I need)
Baby, baby, baby, yeah, love
Oh, ooh, nothing baby, nothing baby
Ooh, true baby, oh no
Nothing in this world, no baby
Nothing, baby
Not every hope is a dream come true
Not every heart is made of steel
Not all love sees the end of time
And more hearts than not will be broken tryin'
But I believe that love is enough
In the healing of your touch
Because you showed me what it's all about
I could never find out unless you showed me
How easily we complicate the simple things
And one mistake we make along the way
Is to think there's so much more we need
Of things that time only takes away
But I believe that love is enough
In the healing of your touch
Because you showed me what it's all about
I would never find out unless you showed me
Here all that we have is now
We learn to believe somehow, it's enough we have today
All I know is time changes everything
Whatever tomorrow brings I will believe
But love is enough
In the healing of your touch
Because you showed me what it's all about
I would never find out 'til you showed me, 'til you showed me
I saw us walking to the river
And I was wondering what it means
It looked like people had come together
As if we all believed in the same thing
Can you feel it, it feels like mercy
Hear that music, it sounds like grace
Let it be in my nature to look at my brother
And see my father's face
I want to be in the spirit
I want to be there when we cross that stream
As a people we're gonna get there
We'll find a way to make a world out of a dream
See that fire burn in the distance
Looks like redemption on its way
I heard a million voices that sounded like angels
Here's what I thought I heard them say
I want to be in the spirit
I want to be there when we cross that stream
As a people we're gonna get there
We'll find a way to make a world out of a dream
Oh children, don't grow weary
'Cause we have nothing to fear
With God on our side, as we move forward
(Berlin/Bernard/Smith)
I'm dreaming of a white christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
I'm dreaming of a white christmas
With every christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your christmases be white
And later on we'll conspire
As we sit down by the fire
Facing unafraid all the plans that we made
By michael mcdonald & chuck sabatino
For the most part within ourselves
We've got all we need
And I don't mean to make you feel
Dependent on me
But for everyone there comes a day
When you need some help along your way
When that moment comes
Chorus:
I'll be you angel
When the going gets rough
(when your best ain't enough)
I'll be by your side
(all else has been tried)
And I ain't giving up
(you can't give up)
Not on this love
(you still got my love)
I'll be your angel
There's no doubt in my mind
Why I'm alive
'cause I feel heaven-sent
When I look in your eyes
Well, this old world will drag you down
Tie your spirit to the ground
But if you call on me
Listen, baby
Ain't no mountain high
Ain't no valley low
Ain't no river wide enough, baby
If you need me, call me
No matter where you are, no matter how far
Don't worry baby
Just call my name, I'll be there in a hurry
You don't have to worry
'Cause baby there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
Remember the day, I set you free
I told you, you could always count on me darling
From that day on I made a vow
I'll be there when you want me
Some way,some how
Baby but, ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
Oh no running
No wind, no rain
No winter storm can stop me baby
No no baby
If your loving is over, I'll be there on the door
Just see for me, oh baby
My love is alive way down in my heart
Although we are miles apart
If you ever need a helping hand
I'll be there on the double just as fast as I can
Baby there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
You know you better
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
Ain't no mountain high enough

Sometimes it seems to me
A long and tender love
Is just not meant to be
It's just not of this world
The more we live with this love
The more we learn to ignore
We keep our feelings inside
Until we open the door
Chorus:
It's in my heart, it's in your eyes
It's waving us on
Till everything stops, everything dies
(we can't stop now, we've come this far)
Don't let me down
'cause in it's darkest hour
A love that's still worthwhile
Will always stand it's ground
If we just realize
The more we give to this love
The more we know that it's right
But if the time ever comes
That we should look for that light
Be on my side, I'll be on your side baby
There's no reason for you to hide
It's so hard for me standin' here all alone

The world goes mad around us
As I stand by and watch you sleep
In the hope that harm won't find us
I pray the lord our souls to keep
Does he see us here?
Are we precious in his sight?
Or are we merely dust on this tiny ball?
He hurled out into the night
Somewhere east of eden
From the first time that we stumble
We learn that nothing is assurred
However hopelessly we tumble
It's by the grace of God that we endure
If there's some better place
Far from all that's wrong
But if God in his wisdom
Saw fit to put you here
Then here is where I belong
Somewhere east of eden
Maybe he laughs in our face
By way of the cold hard fact
That these moments framed in time and space
Are the same ones nothing can bring back
Maybe we exist and wonder through this world
Just to lead each other home
Yeah yeah
Yeah
This love is the only thing
Pinning our future to the past
And what we have will always be
The part of this living that lasts
Baby, here I stand unafraid
To forsake this world for your tenderness
I'm reachin' out, I can't give up, no no
Sometimes it seems to me
That this world is only where we start
For all it's wonder I still believe
The answer lies deep within our hearts
Baby, here I stand unafraid
To give myself, to be set free
In love we find there is no end
We've always been and we'll always be
Everlasting
Everlasting
Everlasting
Everlasting
Here I stand unafraid
To forsake this world for your tenderness
I'm reachin' out, oh I can't give up
'Cause nothing matters but your lovingness
Everlasting
Everlasting
Everlasting
Oh everlasting
By michael mcdonald and bernie chiaravalle
Day by day
One by one
They plant the seeds of doubt
But far too many have come this far
For me to turn back now
Chorus:
I wanna build upon it¡
One by one
We must believe a change will come somehow
¡®cause far too many lay down their lives
For me to give up now
Chorus:
I wanna build upon it¡
Bridge:
One world we leave behind
One truth that lights the way
This dream depends upon how we live today
Chorus:
Girl, there ain't no way out
When something is meant to be
And darling, there ain't no doubt
I'm right where I want to be
So everything you see as the end of our road
I see as only a start
Girl, this ain't no time to stop before we begin
And though there's no promises
Every time I think how good it could be
I start to be believe it's up to the stars
I should use my head
But that only tends to lose me and confuse me
So every time I think how good it could be
I surely believe we'll make it that far
I should use my head
I only know you by heart, by heart
Girl, I know I'm in
Over my head
But now I need to find out
Just what you want from me
And if I'm reaching too high, you know we live and learn
That's all it takes in this life
I can't be overly cautious where love's concerned
I know there's no promises
Every time I think how good it could be
I start to be believe it's up to the stars
I should use my head
But that only tends to lose me and confuse me
Every time I think how good it could be
I surely believe we'll make it that far
I should use my head
But I only know you by heart, baby, by heart, baby
By heart, baby
By heart, baby
So everything you see as the end of our road
I see as only a start
This ain't no time to stop before we begin
And though there's no promises
Every time I think how good it could be
I start to be believe it's up to the stars
I should use my head
But that only tends to lose me and confuse me
Every time I think how good it could be
I surely believe we'll make it that far
If I should use my head
But I only know you by heart, baby, by heart, baby
By heart, baby
By heart, baby
By heart, baby
By heart, baby
(Traditional - Arranged By McDonald/Harris)
Children, go where I send thee
How shall I send thee?
I'm gonna send thee two by two
Two for paul and silas
One for the little bitty baby
Wrapped in swaddling clothing
That was born, born
Born in bethlehem
Children, go where I send thee
How shall I send thee?
I'm gonna send thee two by two
Two for paul and silas
Three for the little bitty baby
Four for the hebrew children
Five for the gospel preachers
That was born, born
Born in bethlehem
Children, go where I send thee
How shall I send thee?
I'm gonna send thee two by two
Two for paul and silas
Four for the four that stood at the door
Five for the gospel preachers
Six for the six that never got fixed
Seven for the seven that never got to heaven
Eight for the eight that stood at the gate
Nine for the nine all dressed so fine
Ten for the ten commandments
You know, when you're in love and your lover leaves you
And you've got nobody, the lonely hours over here
Sittin' home and thinkin', you say
Distant lover, darlin', ooo hoo hoo
So many miles away, ooo please
Oh please, baby, think about me
Hey, in misery
Oh say, baby, as I reminisce about your life
That we shared together
The promises we made, baby
Of the day you left, child
Then all of a sudden, if it may seem to explode
Now I gaze out my window, sugar, down a lonesome road, ooo
Distant lover, ooo, sugar
How can you treat my heart so mean and cruel
Didn't you know, sugar, that I dream
Of what I spent with you
I treasure it like it was a precious jewel, oh baby
Lord have mercy
Oh baby, don't go
Please come back, baby
Ooo, something I wanna say
When you left to go away
No there do I want, do you wanna have me plead and scream
Please! Please, oh please baby
Come back home, girl
Oh baby, come back
By michael mcdonald
It's hard to bet your life on love
When all we learn is how to keep on moving
And the odds are never good enough
For all we know, nothing lasts forever in this life
Show me one thing that will never fade away
What goes with the fall, returns with the spring
This whole world is made that way
Who's to know if love will stay
Chorus:
But there's nothing quite like this
That I've ever known
And I believe in it
There's no way out of it
I can't let go
Because I believe in it
We second guess the things we see
When all too soon you know time will show
If love was never meant to be
Then we can't hide before too long
We'll know if it was right
Show me one thing that will never fade away
What goes with the fall, returns with the spring
This whole world is made that way
Child, as I look in your eyes
You know my life seems like a minute
There I find living proof
Of all the wonder life hold in it
In the past I thought I had to learn
Any good that comes from this life we're living
Here and now, let us realize
That this life's gift and it's already been given
Someday when you stand in the middle
Like it or not you're gonna look both ways
You're gonna find that time is a riddle
Where days turn into years and years into the blink of an eye
Child, once I saw a man on the TV
Lead a nation up a mountain
He said, children, look over yonder
The flame of truth is burning brightly
Sometimes you look so far, there's only so much time
Only so many of us are gonna get there
Here and now is all we really have
But if we can make it count we got no reason to worry
Someday when you stand in the middle
Like it or not you're gonna look both ways
You're gonna find that time is a riddle
Where days turn into years and years into the blink of an eye
You're gonna walk that mile
You're gonna be in that number
You're gonna make that journey
Just like the good book says
(Michael McDonald & Kenny Loggins)
He came from somewhere back in her long ago
The sentimental fool don't see
Tryin' hard to recreate
What had yet to be created once in her life
She musters a smile
For his nostalgic tale
Never coming near what he wanted to say
Only to realize
It never really was
She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go
But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
And nothing at all keeps sending him:
Somewhere back in her long ago
Where he can still believe there's a place in her life
Someday, somewhere, she will return
She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go
But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
There's nothing at all
But what a fool believes he sees
By chuck sabatino and michael mcdonald
What makes a man
Believe in a brighter day
When his whole world is fallin' apart
All promise is fading away
What does it take,
To turn his heart to stone
When he's got more than his share of riches
More than one life can hold
Sometimes it takes
More than we've got it seems
Something so close, so near
Even a blind man sees
If it takes a hand strong and mighty
To spin this world around
It takes the power of a woman's sweet love
To make a man hold on
What makes a man
Hang his hope on someone
To bring the light out of darkness
Makes him believe a change is gonna come
Something inside that just won't let go
Something so simple, so sweet,
Even a fool would know
If it takes a hand strong and mighty
To spin this world around
It takes the power of a woman's sweet love
To bring joy out of pain
To let sunshine through rain
To bring hope back to the heart
To bring together what's fallin' apart
She's got the kind of kisses
To make a weak man strong
She's got the kind of love
To make a good man go wrong
She's got what it takes
Mother, mother
There's far too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today ya
Father, father
We don't need to escalate
Oh, war is not the answer
'Cause only love can conquer hate
You know though we've got to find a way
Bring some understandin' here today
Picket in sign, picket in line
Don't punish me with brutality
Come on talk to me, you will see
Oh, what's going on
What's going on?
Tell me, what's going on
I tell you, what's going on
Father, father
Everybody thinkin' we're wrong
Who are they to judge us
Simply because of our hair is long
You know know we've got to find a way
Bring some understanding here today
Picket in sign and picket in line
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me you will see
What's going on?
What's going on?
Tell me what's going on
I'll tell you what's going on
Right on baby
What's going on?
What's going on?
What's going on?
What's going on?
Father, father
What's going on?
Something deep inside keeps me hangin' on
Don't believe, I've ever seen a night so long
Guess, I tried to fly high above the clouds
But I landed here in the mornin' rain at your door
And I know I let you down again
But right now, you know, I need a friend
I don't know why, I guess I just lose my way
And your eyes don't believe a word I say
I can't imagine, without your love, where would I be now
Did you ever know, I always looked up to you
And after all this time it remains true
There's no compromise, no turning back for me
But through the veil of my pride, sometimes it's hard to see
And I know your love is all I need
So when I fall, don't stop believing in me
'Cause your love is what's helpin' me survive
Your faith in me is what keeps my hope alive
And without your love, where would I be now
Well, I know your love is worth fightin' for
And if it takes forever, I will wait at your door
'Cause your love is what's helpin' me survive
Your faith in me is what keeps my hope alive
People say I'm the life of the party
Cause I tell a joke or two
Although I might be laughing loud and hearty
Deep inside I'm blue
[Chorus:]
So take a good look at my face
You'll see my smile looks out of place
Just look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
I need you, need you
Since you left me if you see me with another girl
Seeming like I'm having fun
Although she may be cute she's just a substitute
'Cause you're the permanent one
[Chorus]
Outside, I'm masquerading
Inside, my hope is fading
Just a clown, oh yeah since you put me down
My smile is my make-up I wear since my break-up with you
Yeah now
Wanna make a miracle
How many would believe that a lamb lost unto this world?
Would be the victory that we need
As he lay beneath the shining star
Chosen before time began, eternal love from our father
It takes a miracle
To the world it is impossible
It takes a miracle
To the mind it is illogical
A world in need, a heart in chains
That's all God needs to make a miracle
You know a soul ashamed, a life of pain
That's all my God needs to make a miracle
How does a wise man know
That it's not just another star?
How do I chose to follow
What speaks unto my heart?
It takes a miracle
How sweet the sound, my father's voice
It takes a miracle
This holy night we will rejoice
A world in need, a heart in chains
That's all my God needs to make a miracle
A soul ashamed, a life, a life of pain
That's all my God needs to make a miracle
This time has come that we might know his way
In this world a need to find our faith
To understand what we know nothing of
We lead the faith to understand the power of love
It takes a miracle
How sweet the sound, my father's voice
It takes a miracle
Holy night, we will rejoice
A world in need, a heart in chains
That's all my God needs to make a miracle
A soul, soul ashamed, a life of pain
That's all God needs to make a miracle
A world in need, a heart in chains
That's all my God needs to make a miracle
A soul, soul ashamed, a life of pain

I'm too high
I'm too high
But I ain't touched the sky
I'm too high
I'm too high
But I ain't touched the sky
She's a girl in a dream
She sees a four-eyed cartoon monster
On the T.V. screen
She takes another puff and says
"It's a crazy scene"
That red is green
And she's a tangerine
I'm too high
I'm too high
But I ain't left the ground
I'm too high
I'm too high
I hope I never ever come down
She's the girl in her life
But her world's a superficial paradise
She had a chance to make it big more than once or twice
But no dice
She wasn't very nice
Dodo do do do dodo
Do do dodo do dodo
Do do do do do do
Dodo do do do dodo
Do do dodo do dodo
Dodo dodo

I'm too high

I'm so high
I feel like I'm about to die
I can't ever touch the sky
I'm too high
She's a girl of the past
I guess that I got to her at last
A did you hear the news about the girl today
She passed away
What did her friend say
They said she's too high
Too high
Can't hang around anyway...
Dodo do do do dodo

Tuesday heartbreak seem to be unfair,
Cause you say that you found another man,
Tuesday break heart, guess you just don't care,
Cause you found you another man
I want to be with you when you're all alone,
I want to be with you
when you feel you got another man,
You see, baby, it's all alright
I wanna be with you when the nightime comes,
I wanna be with you when the daytime comes,
I wanna stay, oh baby, lemme, baby with you
Tuesday heartbreak seem to be a drag,
When you know that you love her especially,
Catch up baby, catch up with my dreams,
Maybe than I can see you all the time
But I wanna be with you when the nightime comes
I wanna be with you when the daytime comes,
I wanna stay and never go away,
Oh baby, it's alright
I wanna be with you when the nightime comes,
I wanna stay with you till the morning runs,
I wanna, baby, baby, baby, it's alright
I wanna be with you when the nightime comes,
I wanna be with you till the daytime comes
Look back loneliness, you won't see me behind you
Hey, now emptiness, no more leading the way
Go on desperateness, I don't need you beside me, no more
Come on happiness, I can feel you gaining ground
Hey, now foolishness, I might keep you around
Go on emptiness, I won't look behind me, no more
I don't rule you out
I know you're there
But I'm on to you now
That's why, I won't be down very long
That's why, I'll be all right from now on
That's why, I get stronger every time
That's why, I know this heart will survive after you're gone
You know I believe, all we really have is time
No use worrying, no use wondering why
'Cause through it all, we're only here to laugh and cry
It's meant to be, that failure only brings another way
Every heartache always has another day
Come on loneliness, I don't need to hide you, no more
I don't rule you out
I know you're there
But I'm on to you now
That's why, I won't be down very long
That's why, I'll be all right from now on
That's why, I get stronger every time
That's why, I know this heart will survive after you're gone
I don't rule you out
I know you're there
But I'm on to you now
That's why, I won't be down very long
That's why, I'll be all right from now on
That's why, I get stronger every time
That's why, I know your soul will survive
That's why, I won't be down very long
That's why, I'll be all right from now on
That's why, I get stronger every time
Just so many words
No more than a touch
In matters of love
I never knew much
'Til you gave your heart
And all of your soul
I look at your face
And I see it all
Baby, you showed me
The meaning of love
You opened my eyes
You were patient and wise
Baby, you showed me
The meaning of love
You brought me this far
In all that you are
I see the meaning of love
So insecure
Afraid of mistakes
Knowing too well
The toll love can take
'Cause I stood with a storm
Raging inside
'Til you brought me in
BY JERRY LEIBER/MIKE STOLLER/MICHAEL MCDONALD/ED SANFORD
CHORUS:
I KEEP FORGETTIN' WE'RE NOT IN LOVE ANYMORE
I KEEP FORGETTIN' THINGS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN
I KEEP FORGETTIN' HOW YOU MADE THAT SO CLEAR
I KEEP FORGETTIN'
EVERYTIME YOU'RE NEAR
EVERYTIME I SEE YOU SMILE
HEAR YOUR ";HELLO";
SAYING YOU CAN ONLY STAY A WHILE
HEY, I KNOW THAT IT'S HARD FOR YOU
TO SAY THE THINGS THAT WE BOTH KNOW ARE TRUE
BUT TELL ME HOW COME (I)
CHORUS:
EVERYTIME I HEAR
HOW YOU NEVER WANT TO LIVE A LIE
HOW IT'S GONE TOO FAR
AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL ME WHY
WHY YOU'RE GONE AND WHY THE GAME IS THROUGH
IF THIS IS WHAT'S REAL, IF THIS IS WHAT'S TRUE
TELL ME HOW COME (I)
CHORUS:
DON'T SAY THAT, DON'T SAY THAT, DON'T SAY THAT
I KNOW YOU'RE NOT MINE ANYMORE-ANYWAY-ANYTIME
BUT TELL ME HOW COME (I)
CHORUS:
To a restless heart
It's been a long time comin'
For a dreamers dream
I would keep on runnin'
I know it's right to be with you, save me
One step away from the promised land
Reach out and take my hand
I need you, darlin'
Never been this close to love before
Never needed anybody more
Than I need you, darlin'
Through a lonely heart
There's a fire burnin'
And the dream of dreams
I see love returnin'
I know it's right to be with you forever
One step away from the promised land
Reach out and take my hand
I need you, darlin'
Never been this close to love before
Never needed anybody more
Than I need you
One step, one step away
I need you, darlin'
Never been this close to love before
Never needed anybody more
I need you, darlin'
I need you
One step away from the promised land
Reach out and take my hand
I need you, darlin'
Never been this close to love before
Never needed anybody more
Than I need you
One step, one step away
I need you, darlin'
Never been this close to love before
Never needed anybody more
I need you, darlin'
One step, one step away
'Cos I need you
One step, one step away
'Cos I need you
One step away from the promised land
Reach out and take my hand
'Cos I need you
Never been this close to love before
So many will worry on this Christmas Day
But many just goes so far anyway
When the shopping is over, it's all said and done
The story's the same for everyone
'Cause one gift already given
That will stand the test of time
Love and mercy, sweet forgiveness
A gift from God the Father to all mankind
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Christmas is special, the time that we share
The joy and the music fill the air
But let us remember, the message is clear
He sent us a Savior to draw us near
With one love from the beginning
That will span the rest of time
A Child is born to a world that lies waiting
To prove our Father's love for all mankind
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
This Good News
The greatest gift we share
So let us have no fear
As we sing Hallelujah
'Cause one gift already given
That will stand the test of time
Love and mercy, sweet forgiveness
A gift from God, the Father to all mankind
By michael mcdonald & david pack
Lost and lonely lives
Floating like waves at sea
We make it day by day
Watching the world go by
In a moment where time stands still
From here we look out on forever
Chorus:
Darling, our love
One love that never fades away
Our love
This love will light the world on it's way
Shattered, broken dreams
Sifting like grains of sand
We claim it and here we stay
Watching the world go by
With the strength that we spend in this life
In the hope that it goes on forever
We believe as we promise to try, that
Chorus:
In a moment when time stands still
From here we look out on forever
And we can see all that time will tell
We're lost, baby, that's okay
We may not always understand
We may not always know the way
We can cry and we can hurt sometimes
But we both know what's important
At the end of the line
It's not always the case that we know
Just what to do
But when it comes to me and you
We've both been here before
So let love open up the door
What love will surely show us
Ain't that what we came here for?
So let love open the door
Maybe it's time that we hold on tight
In each others embrace
We might just see the morning light
'Cause when we touch
It's like a brand new start
It's there we find the music
In each others heart and we might just discover
That we don't always see what's for real
Love is something that you feel
We've both been here before
So let love open up the door
What love will surely show us
Ain't that what we came here for?
So let love open the door
We've both been here before
So let love open up the door
What love will surely show us
Ain't that what we came here for?
It ain't nothin' new
Just a chance to finally see this love through
This love has one purpose
(And)
Never asks for anything more
So let love open the door
Sometimes words only mean so much
They don't say how we feel
They don't keep us in touch
It's too late once we drift apart
All that's left are the pieces of two broken hearts
We've both been here before
So let love open up the door
What love will surely show us
Ain't that what we came here for?
So let love open the door
Love is sweet, love is kind
Love will open up your mind
Let love open up the door
All that counts, nothing more
Love is what we came here for
(Michael McDonald & Ed Sanford)
Who are you
Are you someone that I knew
Or did you come and go inside a dream
Well, you look the same
Even though you say you've changed
You can't hide the shame of a guilty heart
[Chorus:]
Well, I know there's a reason love don't always rhyme
So you think by leavin' you're not wasting precious time
Love's not always happiness
Sad, but it's true, girl
Every fool's got to learn he's got nothing to lose
Playin' by the rules
What's your plan
Will you try just one more man
And trade a thrill that's gone for a brand new start
Will you love him only
Until you leave him lonely
When he tries to change and tame your restless heart
[Chorus]
When are you gonna learn
That a love is earned
Sometimes you got to fight
I have come from so far away
Down the road of my own mistakes
In the hope you could hear me pray
Oh Lord, keep me in Your reach
How I've longed through these wasted years
To outrun all the pain and fear
Turned to stone from my uncried tears
And now it's Your grace I seek
Love won't compromise
It's a gift, it's a sacrifice
My soul renewed and my heart released
In you I'll find my peace
Oh wondrous child of whom the Angels sing
Know my joy, feels my suffering
Shining star make this love you bring
So bright that I may believe
That my way will not be lost
From now on, till that river's crossed
My soul renewed and my spirit free
Darlin?, I know, I?m just another head on your pillow
If only just tonight, girl, let me hear you lie just a little
Tell me I?m the only man that you ever really loved
Honey, take me back deep in my memory
A time when it was all very right, so very nice
Here darlin?, stands another bandit wantin? you
In and out your life, they come and they go
Your days and nights like a wheel that turns
Grindin? down a secret part of you
Deep inside your heart that nobody knows
When you say, "Comfort me" to anyone who approaches
Chalkin? up the hurt, we live and we learn
Well, we?ve both lived long enough to know
Now if you feel that you can't go on
As if all of your hope is gone
And your life filled with much confusion
Until happiness is just an illusion
And the world around is tumblin' down
Darling, reach out
Come on, girl, reach out for me
Reach out for me
I'll be there with the love that will shelter you
I'll be there with the love that will see you through
When you're alone and about to give up
'Cause your best just ain't good enough
And you feel the world has grown cold
And you're driftin' on all on your own
When you need a hand to hold
Darling, reach out
Come on, girl, reach out for me
Reach out for me
I'll be there with the love that will comfort you
I'll be there with the love that will see you through
I'll be there now, baby, you can always count on me
Reach out, baby
I can tell the way you hang your head
You're alone now, and you're afraid
Through your tears you look around
There's no peace of mind to be found
I know what you're thinking
You're alone now with no love of your own
Darling, reach out
Come on, girl, reach out for me
Reach out for me
I'll be there with the love that will shelter you
I'll be there with the love that will comfort you
I'll be there now, baby, you're always a friend of me
I'll be there with the love that will comfort you
No, run to me 'cause I'll be there, baby
I will always shelter you
In a world of no hope a light will shine brightly
That all men might know the meaning of mercy
And of love beyond all love, peace that rests the soul
The heart will open and search no more
Behold I bring You tidings
Tidings of great joy
The world has found it's answer
In a child that's born on this night
Sing out across the seas cry out from the mountains
The son of man is born, let's sing of His mercy
And the peace beyond all peace, the King of kings has come
Let every heart surrender, every soul reborn
Behold I bring you tidings
Tidings of great joy
The world has found it's Saviour
In a child that's born on this night, on this night
Behold I bring you tidings
Tidings of great joy
The world has found it's answer
In a child that's born
Behold I bring you tidings
Tidings of great joy
The world has found it's Saviour
So many times, said it was forever
Said our love would always be true
Something in my heart always knew
I'd be lying here beside you
On my own, on my own, on my own
So many promises never should be spoken
Now I know what loving you cost
Now we're up to talking divorce
And we weren't even married
On my own, once again now
One more time by myself
No one said it was easy, oh no
But it once was so easy
Well, I believed in love
Now here I stand I wonder why, ooh
I'm on my own, why did it end this way
(On my own)
This wasn't how it was supposed to be
(On my own)
I wish that we could do it all again
So many times, I know I should have told you
Losing you it cut like a knife, hey
You walked out and there went my life
I don't want to live without you
(On my own)
This wasn't how it was supposed to end
(On my own)
I wish that we could do it all again
(On my own)
I never dreamed I'd spend one night alone
(By myself)
On my own, I've got to find out where I belong again
(On my own)
I've got to learn to be strong again
(On my own)
I never dreamed I'd spend one night alone
(By myself)
By myself, by myself
(On my own)
I've got to find out what was mine again
(On my own)
My heart is saying that it's my time again
(On my own)
And I have faith that I will shine again
(By myself)
(On my own)
Oh, babe
(On my own)
Give me
Ooh dance with me
Come on dance with me, baby
Dance with me
Come on dance with me, baby
Dance with me
Come on dance with me, baby
Dance with me
Come on dance with me, baby
I want you and you want me
So why don't we
Get together after the dance
Ooh when I first saw you
Lookin' good on the soul train
So good
I cannot get you sharp and right
Dancin' good spinnin' everywhere
I thought to myself
You were so fine
The ways you move
So fine
She's movin' so real, I need her
What you need is me
I want you and you want me
So why don't we
Get together after the dance
While we danced
Let's break this baby
You were so fine
The way you moved me
Your eyes
Told me warm things
Oh baby, whisper out between you and me
Got to leave you my sweet lovin', baby
Nobody else's got, nobody's got my love
Except for a few, if I were you
I want you to take me with you
What'cha gonna do
I want you and you want me
So why don't we
Get together after the dance
Dance
Dance with me
Come on dance with me, baby
Dance with me
Come on dance with me, baby
Dance with me
Come on dance with me, baby
Dance with me
Come on dance with me, baby
I want you and you want me
So why don't we
Get together after the dance
I want you and you want me
So why don't we
Get together after the dance
I want you and you want me
So why don't we
Listen, baby
Ain't no mountain high
Ain't no valley low
Ain't no river wide enough, baby
If you need me, call me
No matter where you are, no matter how far
Don't worry baby
Just call my name, I'll be there in a hurry
You don't have to worry
'Cause baby there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
Remember the day, I set you free
I told you, you could always count on me darling
From that day on I made a vow
I'll be there when you want me
Some way,some how
Baby but, ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
Oh no running
No wind, no rain
No winter storm can stop me baby
No no baby
If your loving is over, I'll be there on the door
Just see for me, oh baby
My love is alive way down in my heart
Although we are miles apart
If you ever need a helping hand
I'll be there on the double just as fast as I can
Baby there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
You know you better
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
Ain't no mountain high enough
(Michael McDonald & Amy Holland)
So easily said in passing
Always followed by some way out
You got me so dizzy
I'm wondering what it's all about
All this talk about us and the future
How real is this future you see
Maybe love's just a word thrown around
But it's important to me
Darlin' I've heard it all before
But I can't give up
Till I know for sure
[Chorus:]
Oh, can't you see I hang on your every word
This ain't no game I'm playing
I really love you
Don't promise nothin' that you can't live up to
If you're so worried about my feelings
Help me get to the bottom of this
I've listened to all your excuses
It's the truth I miss
I know you're thinking I'll always be here
However long that I'll be waiting for you
I know you think my love is endless
Well, girl that just ain't true
Darlin' I've heard it all before
But I can't give up
Till I know for sure
(Michael McDonald & Chuck Sabatino)
For the most part within ourselves
We've got all we need
And I don't mean to make you feel
Dependent on me
But for everyone there comes a day
When you need some help along your way
When that moment comes
[Chorus:]
I'll be you angel
When the going gets rough
(when your best ain't enough)
I'll be by your side
(all else has been tried)
And I ain't giving up
(you can't give up)
Not on this love
(you still got my love)
I'll be your angel
There's no doubt in my mind
Why I'm alive
'cause I feel heaven-sent
When I look in your eyes
Well, this old world will drag you down
Tie your spirit to the ground
But if you call on me
By michael mcdonald and bernie chiaravalle
Behind us now lies a long bending road
And at this point we wonder what we need to be
All this way like a single heart
Just so you know nothings really changed for me
For so long I watched you shine your light
I know hope is hard to find right now (but)
Someday you will
Someday you will
In every life the darkest days seem so long
Till the fear fades like the waning tide
The mornin' comes when the din in your head subsides
Just enough for the quiet voice inside
To point the way to the place where your strength lies
Though it might take a while to find
Someday you will...
On that day you'll spread your wings and fly
Although now you may not know why
Ohh, ohh ooo, ohh ooo
No no baby
Ooo ooo ooo
You're alone all the time
Does it ever puzzle you?
Did you ask, why you seem to fall in love and out again?
Do you ever really love or just pretend?
Oh baby, why fool yourself
Don't be afraid to help yourself
It's never too late, too late to
Stop, look
Listen to your heart, hear what it's sayin'
(Stop)
Stop, look
And listen to your heart, hear what it's sayin'
(Love)
Love
Love
(Love, haa, love)
Love ooo
Though you try, you can't hide
All the things you really feel, this time decide
That you will open up and let it in
There's no shame in sharin' love you feel within
So darling, just jump right in
(Jump right in)
Head over heels and fall right in
'Cause it's never too late, too late to
Stop, look
And listen to your heart, hear what it's sayin'
(Oh baby)
Stop, look
(Stop)
And listen to your heart, hear what it's sayin'
(Love)
Love
Love
Love
Don't blame, can you hear me?
No, no no baby
Oh baby, ooh
Oh darling can you hear me, hey?
Ohh love
(Stop right now and listen to your heart)
Baby would stop and listen
Listen, baby
(Touch and love, it's never too late)
Never too late, never too late
Hear what it's sayin'
(Stop and look, listen to your heart)
Why can't you hear?
Oh no
Hear what you askin', stop
(Yaa yaa yaa yaa)
No baby
(Touch and love, it's never too late)
No no
And listen to your heart, hear what it's sayin'
(Stop and love, listen to your heart)
Ooh listen to your heart, hear what it's sayin'
(Touch and love, it's never too late)
Yea yea yea
So so so
No no
(Stop and love, listen to your heart)
Try it, try it
Yeah
You bet it's the
(Touch and love, it's never too late)
Let it go little slowly babe, yeah yeah yeah
(Stop and love, listen to your heart)
Oh listen to your heart
Hear what it's sayin'
(Touch and love, it's never too late)
Hey listen to your heart, hear what its's sayin'
Like a fool I went and stayed too long
Now I'm wondering if your love's still strong
Oo baby, here I am, signed, sealed delivered, I'm yours
Then that time I went and said goodbye
Now I'm back and not ashamed to cry
Oo baby, here I am, signed, sealed delivered, I'm yours
Here I am baby
Oh, you've got the future in your hand
(signed, sealed delivered, I'm yours)
Here I am baby,
Oh, you've got the future in your hand
(signed, sealed, delivered, I'm yours)
I've done alot of foolish things
That I really didn't mean
Hey, hey, yea, yea, didn't i, oh baby
Seen alot of things in this old world
When I touched them they did nothing, girl
Oo baby, here I am, signed, sealed delivered, I'm yours, oh I'm yours
Oo-wee babe you set my soul on fire
That's why I know you are my only desire
Oo baby, here I am, signed, sealed delivered, I'm yours
Here I am baby
Oh, you've got the future in your hand
(signed, sealed delivered, I'm yours)
Here I am baby,
Oh, you've got the future in your hand
(signed, sealed, delivered, I'm yours)
I've done alot of foolish things
That I really didn't mean
I could be a broken man but here I am
With your future, got your future babe (here I am baby)
Here I am baby (signed, sealed delivered, I'm yours)
Here I am baby, (here I am baby)
Here I am baby (signed, sealed delivered, I'm yours)
Here I am baby, (here I am baby)
Sun is shining, there's plenty of light
New day dawning, sunny and bright
But after I've been crying all night
The sun is cold, and the new day seems old
Since I lost my baby
Since I lost my baby
Birds are singing, children are playing
There's plenty of work and the bosses are paying
Not a sad word should a young heart be saying
But fun is a bore and with money I'm poor
Since I lost my baby
Since I lost my baby
Someone please remind her, of the love she left behind her
Next time I'll be kinder, won't you please help me find her?
Till then I'll be trying ta, everyday I'm more inclined ta
Be kinda and find her
Oh, determination is fading fast
Inspiration is a thing of the past
Don't see how my hope's gonna last
Good things are bad and what's happy is sad
Since I lost my baby, since I lost my baby
I feel so bad, I feel so sad oh baby
Since I lost my baby, I feel so bad now baby
You don't know me but I'm your brother
I was raised here in this living hell
You don't know my kind in your world
Fairly soon the time will tell
You telling me the things you're gonna do for me
I ain't blind and I don't like what I think I see
Takin' it to the streets
Takin' it to the streets
Takin' it to the streets
Takin' it to the streets
Take this message to my brother
You will find him everywhere
Wherever people live together
Tied in poverty's despair
You telling me the things you're gonna do for me
I ain't blind and I don't like what I think I see
Takin' it to the streets
Takin' it to the streets
Takin' it to the streets
I need your touch tonight
Nobody else will do for me
The time is right if love's a game and we're both in it
Playing for real, we're gonna win it
Gonna show them how it's meant to be
We're gonna make it together
We're gonna tear it up, take it to the limit now
We're gonna make it together
We're gonna tear it up, never see the finish
Now tomorrow seems so bright
The future's looking good for us
We have the trust if our faith is true and we don't break it
No one else will ever shake it
Gonna show them how it's meant to be
We're gonna make it together
We're gonna tear it up, take it to the limit now
We're gonna make it together
We're gonna tear it up, never see the finish
We're gonna make it together
We're gonna tear it up, take it to the limit
We're gonna make it together baby
We're gonna tear it up, never see the finish
True love forever shine your light this way
We will stay together
Passion is all it takes to make it real
And it's what we're feeling
We're gonna make it together
We're gonna tear it up, take it to the limit girl
We're gonna make it together
Tear it up, never see the finish
We're gonna make it together
We're gonna tear it up, take it to the limit
Gonna make it together, baby
Tear it up
We're gonna make it girl
We're gonna make it girl
We're gonna tear it up
We're gonna make it together
We're gonna tear it up, take it to the, take it to the limit baby
We're gonna make it together
No more runnin' down the wrong road
dancin' to a diff'rent drum
Can't you see what's goin' on
deep inside your heart?
Always searchin' for the real thing
livin' like it's far away
Just leave all the madness in yesterday
You're holdin' the key
when you believe it
(chorus)
(Shine sweet freedom)
(Shine your light on me)
You are the magic
you're right where I wanna be
(Oh sweet freedom carry me along)
We'll keep the spirit alive on and on
We'll be dancin' in the moonlight
smilin' with the risin' sun
Livin' like we've never done
goin' all the way
Reachin' out to meet the changes
touchin' every shining star
The light of tomorrow is right where we are
There's no turnin' back
from what I'm feeling
(chorus)
'Cause there'll be starlight all night
when we're close together
Share those feelings dancin' in your eyes
Tonight they're guiding us
shinin' till the mornin' light
(instrumental)
I know that you're afraid to love
You've been hurt before
Love broke your heart so you closed the door
Now here I am outside your world
Wishin' you'd let me in
Give me half a chance to prove you wrong
Baby, all your tears have come and gone
Talkin' 'bout a brand new start
Take it to heart, baby, believe it
This love is so strong that it won't let you go
Baby, hold on, you'll see
Just how good it's gonna be
It's gonna be here long as you need it
Never take your world and tear it apart
Take it to heart, baby
You're gonna have to trust someone
It's a shame if you don't
Because it ain't no life living all alone
Let me show you how to love again
There's no broken heart that love won't mend
Talkin' 'bout a brand new start
I just want to be the one that'll be there by your side
So take this love of mine, take it to heart
Baby, believe it, this love is so strong, love is so strong, baby
(love is a second chance to find all that we lost)
(Love's always worth a try no matter what the cost)
(I know you don't believe your tears have come and gone)
Through the mirror of my mind
Time after time
I see reflections of you and me
Reflections of the way life used to be
Reflections of the love you took from me
I'm alone now
No love to shield me
Trapped in a world that
A distorted reality
Happiness, you took from me
And left me alone
With only memories
Through the mirror of my mind
Through these tears that I'm crying
Reflects the hurt I can't control
'Cause although you're gone
I keep holding on
To the happy times
When you were mine
As I peer out through the window
Of lost time
Looking over my yesterday
And all the love I gave all in vain
All the love I've wasted
All the tears that I've tasted
All in vain
(Reflections of)
Through the hollow of my tears
(Of the dream that's lost)
I see a dream that's lost
(Reflections of)
From the hurt of the pain
(Of the pain you've caused)
That've you have caused
(Reflections of)
Everywhere I turn
(Of the dream that's lost)
Seems like everything I see
(Reflections of)
Reflects the love
(Of the pain you've caused)
That used to be
In you I put
All my faith and trust
But before my eyes
My world has turned to dust
(Reflections of)
After all those nights
(The way life used to be)
I sat alone and wept
(Reflections of)
My hand full of promises
(The love you took from me)
That's all is left
Baby, you I put
All my faith and trust
Right before my eyes
My world was turned to dust
(Reflections of)
After all those nights
(The way life used to be)
I sat alone and wept
(Reflections of)
My hand full of promises
(The love you took from me)
That's all is left
Baby, you I put
All my faith and trust
Right before my eyes
So long ago that you can hardly remember
So far away but not so out of mind
You say you're waiting to be forgiven
Whose problem is it after all this time?
Down deep inside, if I were in your shoes
I know in my heart, I'd never do that to you
It's time to decide if I still wanna try
If love's gonna last, there's one thing I got to find
I'm searchin' for understanding
I'm searchin' for understanding
I'm sorry that my feelings is still so tender
The things they make me do and make me say
I know in time all things get better
But 'til then this may be the price you have to pay
Down deep inside, if I were in your shoes
I know in my heart, I'd never do that to you
It's time to decide what we're gonna do
If love's gonna last, there's something I need from you, baby
I'm searchin' for understanding
I'm searchin' for understanding
I'm searchin' for understanding
So easily trust can be broken
Not so when a heart's got to mend
Your love was the one thing I believed in
Darling, can it ever be the same again?
I'm looking, I'm looking, I'm searchin'
I'm waiting, I'm waiting
I'm looking, I'm searching for understanding
I'm hoping, I'm waiting
I'm looking, I'm searching for understanding
I'm waiting, I'm waiting
I'm looking, I'm searchin' for understanding
I'm hoping, I'm waiting
I'm looking, I'm searchin' for understanding
Ooo, no, no, no, ooo
Oh mercy, mercy me
Oh things ain't what they used to be, no, no
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows
From the north and south and east and so
Oh mercy, mercy me
Oh things ain't what they used to be, no, no
Oil wasted on the ocean and above our seas
Fish full of mercury
Oh mercy, mercy me
Oh things ain't what they used to be
Radiation under ground and in the sky
Animals and birds are dying
No, no, no
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, ooo
Oh mercy, mercy me
Oh things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land?
How much more abuse from man can she stand?
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
My, my, my, my, my, my
My, my, my, my, my, my
Oh mercy, mercy me
Where did all the blue skies go? No, no
Radiation under ground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Broken heart, bloodshot stare
Signs of a fool who cared too much
Now she's gone and he can't remember
How to live without her touch
Hopin' to die but surely livin' to tell
'Cause when it comes to matters of the heart
There is nothing a fool won't get used to
After all the whiskey and wisdom he could swallow
He thought it was time to start loving again
So he found someone and prayed his heart would follow
But he could hardly do more than pretend
And though she knew in her heart that his love was a lie
When it comes to matters of the heart
There is nothing a fool won't get used to
Well, of all the things love teaches
Of all the ways it opens our eyes
No more profound than the lesson he learned
The day she walked out of his life
When the road gets most narrow
Well, it's then he remembers her smile
And he sees these words forming on her lips
Across a river of tears he once cried
'Cause when it comes to matters of the heart
There is nothing a fool won't get used to
No, there is nothing a fool won't get used to
I remember yet before we met
When every night and day
I had to live the life of a lonely one.
And I remember meeting you,
Discovering love could be so true
When shared by two, 'stead of only one.
When you said you loved me
We could not be parted.
Said, I built my world around you
And I'm truly glad I found you
Because loving you has made my life sweeter than ever.
I never felt so good before.
Loving you has made my life sweeter than ever.
Yes it has, you know it has.
Each night I pray we'll never part
Because the love within my heart
Grows stronger from day to day.
Best I try, hard I try
To reassure and satisfy.
You know I'd be lost if you went away.
Because loving you has made my life sweeter than ever.
Yes it has, I know it has.
Loving you has made my life sweeter than ever.
Because loving you has made my life sweeter than ever.
I never felt so good before.
Loving you has made my life sweeter than ever.
Yes it has, you know it has.
Loving you has made my life sweeter than ever.
Don't you know my baby there.
What's that lyin' on her pillow
Folded up so neat
What once was love is now a letter
Lying where she used to sleep
Oh, I thought love was something I could count on
But it took her to show me that
Love lies-right to your face
Love lies-just when I had faith
It would let me down
I know that love lies-right to the end
Love lies-i know the word will never mean the same to me
What's this emptiness inside me
Where her promise used to be
She said she'd be here to guide me
I guess now the joke's on me
Oh, I thought love was something like devotion
But it took her to show me that
Love lies-right to your face
Love lies-just when I had faith
It would let me down
I know that love lies-right to the end
Love lies-i know the word will never mean the same to me
Just when you think you know what love is about
Someone takes your place, and you find that
Love lies-right to your face
Love lies-just when I had faith
It would let me down
I know that love lies-right to the end
By paul carrack and michael mcdonald
With a future as bright as we see
We got to go in with our eyes open wide
For as good as love can be
I can't help being afraid in the back of my mind
For all the dreams we see come true
Girl there's one thing that can't be denied
Baby, we've got a long road ahead
We haven't even started yet
Which makes it easy to forget
Baby, love can break your heart
I know it will baby
Love can break your heart
That's just the other side of it
Love can break your heart
So give it all you can give
'cause nothing short of that will do
So it's gotta be worth it to me
It's gotta be worth it to you
I know we can read all the signs
But after all only time's gonna tell
Girl, I'm not afraid to take a chance
Put my heart into your hands
As long as we both understand
¡that's gotta be good enough for me
Girl that's gotta be good enough for you
So it's gotta be worth it to me
The sight of her ain't like before
For a lonely heart, you should feel much more
You left behind a time when dreams came true
And in this real and lonely world we only do what we can do
All night long that telephone rings
You remember how you loved that girl
Now you think it don't mean a thing
It keeps coming back so you turn away
Well, that's all behind you now
Like rollin' thunder
It just fades away somehow
As we get lost in the parade
Never tried to give
What she was looking for
And to a lonely heart
Love's an open door
All night long that telephone rings
You remember how you loved that girl
Just when you think it doesn't mean a thing
It starts coming back so you turn away
Well, that's all behind you now
Like rollin' thunder
You got to walk away somehow
And the rest just make their way
Well, that's all behind you now
Like rollin' thunder
It just fades away somehow
There aren't enough words to say
When all I mean is I no longer love you
I'd like to leave it lie right there 'cause the rest ain't kind
I'm picking up my pride and I'll be on my way
If you no longer need me
I only have a word or two that I care to say
If you should ever find your spirit start to breaking
Girl, when your heart is aching
Remember me, I was your fool, for really quite a long time
So I know how it feels to play on the losin' end
When you finally turn and find no one around
To catch you when you're falling
To hear you when you're calling from down on the losin' end
Oh, ain't it just the losin' end
To catch you when you're falling
To hear you when you're calling from down on the losin' end
Oh, ain't it just the losin' end
Oh, ain't it just the losin' end
Hey, hey now baby, oh, ain't it just the losin' end
By chuck sabatino and michael mcdonald
From a promise to a lie
From lies to regret
Turn your back on truth baby
And that's always what you get
A man could drown in a love so deep baby
I'm not beggin' you to stay
It's just lonely talk
You don't hear a word I say
You just turn and walk away baby
If I'm on my knees and prayin'
To the lord above
When he listens to my prayer
He knows that it's just lonely talk
Well, I call your name
And I cry all night
Well, it's of no concern to you baby
Now that I'm out of your sight
By michael mcdonald and chester thompson
From a house comes the sound of an infant crying
People stand and stare at the door
They dare not go in
Where a child lies sobbing beside a lifeless body
Trying in vain to awaken the mother within
This chain of death has so many faces
From the frightened man to the pitiful child
Where is our deliverance here?
Will this not pass over?
Chorus:
I won't go back to kikwit town
I won't go back
I won't go back to kikwit town
I won't go back
They would not give us my father's body
The men in orange suits started gathering ¡®round
They asked the names of all who live here
As they threw him down in hole and burned his house down
What have we done to deserve this?
God's wrath has surely come
He lets the devil walk among us
He lets death into our homes
Where is our deliverance here
From this demon loosed upon us?
Chorus:
Is it not enough we live in this squalor?
Is it not enough these sacrifices we make?
Are we not entitled to some mercy
On this short journey we take?
Chorus:
They said come down and answer all our questions
It's best for all if I turn myself in
But I know as sure as I walk through that hospital door
I will never see daylight again
What have we done to deserve this?
God's wrath has surely come
He lets the devil walk among us
He lets death into our homes
Where is our deliverance here
From this demon loosed upon us?
Say, where you gonna go
Girl, where you gonna hide
You go on leavin' out your heart
And all it's sayin' down deep inside
From here I can feel your heartbeat
Oh, you got me all wrong
You ain't got no worry
You just been lonely too long
I know what it means to hide your heart
From a long time ago
Oh, darlin'
It keeps you runnin', yeah, it keeps you runnin'
It keeps you runnin', yeah, it keeps you runnin'
It keeps you runnin', yeah, it keeps you runnin'
It keeps you runnin', yeah, it keeps you runnin'
Oh, I know how you feel
Hey, you know I been there
But what you're keepin' to yourself
Oh, you know it just ain't fair
Are you gonna worry
For the rest of your life?
Why you in such a hurry
To be lonely one more night?
Well, I know what it means to hide your heart
From a long time ago
Oh, darlin'
It keeps you runnin', yeah, it keeps you runnin'
It keeps you runnin', yeah, it keeps you runnin'
It keeps you runnin', yeah, it keeps you runnin'
Hey, don?t worry, I?ve been lied to
I?ve been here many times before
Girl, don?t you worry, I know where I stand
I don?t need this love, I don?t need your hand
I know I could turn blink and you?d be gone
Then I must be prepared any time to carry on
But minute by minute by minute by minute
I keep holding on
Oh, minute by minute by minute by minute
I keep holding on
You will stay just to watch me, darlin?
Wilt away on lies from you
Can?t stop the habit of livin? on the run
I take it all for granted like you?re the only one
Livin? on my own
Somehow that sounds nice
You think I?m your fool
Well, you may just be right
?Cause minute by minute by minute by minute
I keep holding on
Oh, minute by minute by minute by minute
I keep holding on
Call my name and I?ll be gone
You?ll reach out and I won?t be there
Just my luck you?ll realize
You should spend your life with someone
You could spend your life with someone
Minute by minute by minute by minute
I?ll be holding on
Oh, minute by minute by minute by minute
By michael mcdonald
You say sometimes you feel like searchin'
For what you think you need
If you go searchin' for life's reward
You'll wind up sailin' the seven seas
¡®cause here and now when lightning strikes
And it drives us to our knees
Only then do we realize
What we don't always see
That even now in our darkesr hour
We've got the whole universe in our hands
Of all the choices we could make
If we do the lovin' thing
Someday when we look back on this
I doubt if we'll remember much
About the times we hurt each other
The reasons we forgot to trust
There's more to us than that
Sometimes I may try to be
Though I know I'm not your answer
But I'm not your problem either baby
In that way we're all the same
And I know if I surrender
It's a lesson we must learn
A simple truth we can understand
Someday when we look back on this
Far enough away to see
That the most we could ask of this life
The best that we can hope to be
Is to be grateful for love so clear
Like a mirror reflects your face
If you search for the tracks of your tears
I know you won't find a trace
There's more to us than that
Every single tear
Every shattered dream
They're just like pieces of a puzzle
Of themselves not what they seem
Even in our darkest hour
I doubt if we'll remember much
About the times we hurt each other
By george hawkins and michael mcdonald
I try to see you clearly
But I just turn the other cheek
Though I love you dearly
I'm only losin' sleep
What am I supposed to learn
From a broken heart
What have you to gain
By tearin' my world apart
Don't you know that¡
No amount of tears
Could ever wash away
No amount of heartache
Could ever make love fade
Girl there's nothin' I can do
I just can't quit loving you
And no amount of reason
Could change the way I feel
I should've heard the message
That you tried to send to me
For all it's best intentions
Love gives no guarantee
What am I supposed to do
Now that you're gone
For all we've been through
Still I keep holdin' on
I'm fading out of sight
My wheels are the only sound
Runnin' at the speed of sight
I can't slow down
Out on the open road
Racing to beat the night
No matter where I go
Guess I'll get there all right
So why don't I understand
What's trippin' me up
It used to be a simple thing
I can't hold on, I can't return
Time to let go, start to live and learn
I took the one way flight
Too high to see the ground
Now I know how long it takes
A heart to come down
Why don't I understand
What's trippin' me up
It ought to be a simple thing
I can't hold on, I can't return
Time to let go, start to live and learn
I can't hold on, I can't return
Rivers will run, bridges will burn
I'm not sure just how
Down here on loves killin' floor
I doubt if we could take much more
Here and now
(We)
Need to ask ourselves why
We've come this far only to find
The price of happiness we no longer pay
You gotta really love someone
Words alone are cheap, it's more of
What you do and less of what you say
Baby, I don't wanna live
In some prison of promises
Baby, look around at all this emptiness
There ain't no love to be found
With a love like this all broken and bruised
You just walk a way with nothin' to lose
Here and now
(We've)
Got to ask ourselves why
If love is through, then why even try
The price of happiness we no longer pay
You gotta really love someone
Words alone are cheap, it's more of
What you do and less of what you say
Baby, I don't wanna live
In some prison of promises
Baby, look around
It's all but hopeless know
Baby, look at you and me
This vision of loneliness any fool can see
The walls are tumblin' down
There ain't no love to be found
Take a look at you and me
This vision of loneliness baby any fool can see
That between you and me
By michael mcdonald
Why do we look so hard?
Why do we ask so much?
In this world, it's sad in a way
How time unblesses love, and faith is lost
There's no more prayin' for saving grace to find us
No more waiting for conscience to remind us
There are few things meaningless as words
At the point of no return
Why do we want so much?
Can we be satisfied?
In this life how many times
Can we pass the promised land, forever lost?
There's no more prayin' for saving grace to find us
No more waiting for conscience to remind us
There are few things meaningless as words
At the point of no return
We are lost between faith and hope
Between heart and mind, between love and pride
Eventually, the day will come
When lies won't buy time
Tears won't bring hope
When there's no more prayin'¡
Nowhere to run or do what we've done before
There are few things meaningless as words
At the point of no return
We are lost between faith and hope
By michael mcdonald/grady walker/harry garfield
If we could dream our lives away
That would be just fine
Without the cares and fears that prey on everybody's mind
Tryin' to get back to a memory
Tryin' to put the flame back in our hearts
As we look back and we see the past
Like it never was
Chorus:
'cause it's no such luck
There ain't no such thing
Can't blame the stars or fever of spring
No such luck
There ain't no such thing
Something's always goin' wrong
We're just one step ahead of the heartaches|
Tryin' to disguise how they take their toll
Just when you think that you got it down
Then you lose control
It's not love, I'm running from
But the heartache I know will come
'Cause I know you're no good for me
But you become a part of me
Everywhere I go your face I see
Every step I take you take with me, no
Nowhere to run, baby
Nowhere to hide
Got nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide
I know you're no good for me
But free of you I'll never be, no
Each night as I sleep
Into my heart you creep
I wake up feeling sorry I met you
Hopin' soon that I'll forget you
When I look in the mirror to comb my hair
I see your face and smiling there, no
Nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide
I got nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide
I know you're no good for me
But you've become a part of me, no
How can I find a lover?
That should love be
When it's so deep, so deep
Deep inside of me
My love reaches so high I can't get over it
It's so wide I can't get around it, no
Nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide
I just can't get away from you, baby
No matter how I try
I know you're no good for me
But free of you I'll never be
Each night as I see your face
I know you're a part of me
But so deep, so deep and
No, no
I just can't get away from you, baby
No matter how hard I try
Nowhere to run to, babe
Nowhere to hide

Starin' back at a room full of strange faces
I sense another welcome worn thin
A bartender sayin' "son take it outside"
"take it out the door you brought it in"
He said, he don't wanna hear about my problem
Or why I think I got it so tough
He said guys like me come a dime a dozen
That my only problem is knowin' when I've had enough
(but) how can I have too much?
How can I have to much of somethin' I can't get enough of?
You said it so well in your letter baby
You gave me every reason why
Girl you sure use a lot of paper, just to say good-bye
Well here's to the good times
Here's to the way we were
Here's to how you tried to be my lover
¡®till disaster struck
Now you wanna be a friend and tell me
I'm a man who simply needs too much
But how can I have too much?
Old December's here at last, a time for celebration
Christmas present, Christmas past
Tumble down together like the snow, what a show
Now the snowman someone made is melting by the road side
On the wind, a serenade
Children's voices singing, I believe, I believe in us, I believe
On Christmas morning, you awaken with a smile
You hold me in your arms, we watch the snowflakes fly
And then you love me and I realize how sweet our love can be
All the memories coming back again each year on Christmas morning
Sentimental melodies surround me like an old friend
She spent the winter here with me
Silently we watched the seasons change
And they change so fast and fade away
On Christmas morning, you awaken with a smile
You hold me in your arms, we watch the snowflakes fly
And then you love me and I realize how sweet our love can be
All the memories coming back again, take me back in time
On Christmas morning, you awaken with a smile
You hold me in your arms, we watch the snowflakes fly
And then you love me and I realize how sweet our love can be
All the memories coming back again in time
Oh, Christmas morning
Oh, Christmas morning
