The Mam are a Native American people in the western highlands of Guatemala and in south-western Mexico.

Most Mam (617,171) live in Guatemala, in the departments of Huehuetenango, San Marcos, and Quetzaltenango. The Mam people in Mexico (23,632) live principally in the soconusco region of Chiapas.

In Pre-Columbian times the Mam were part of the Maya civilization; the Pre-Columbian capital of the Mam kingdom was Zaculeu.

Many Mam live in and around the nearby modern city of Huehuetenango. The city of Quetzaltenango or Xela was originally Mam. Many more Mam live in small hamlets in the mountains of Northern Guatemala, keeping many of their native traditions. Many Mam are bilingual and speak both Spanish as well as the Mam language, part of the Maya language family, - the latter typically as their first language.

Stephen Mitchell "Steve" Grant (born December 23, 1969 in Miami, Florida) is a former American football linebacker for the West Virginia Mountaineers and Indianapolis Colts in the National Football League. Grant is currently the chaplin for the Texas Tech University football program in Lubbock, Texas.

Steve Grant enrolled at West Virginia University in 1988. During his freshman season, Grant was part of one of the greatest linebacking corps in school history, consisting of Chris Haering, Renaldo Turnbull, Lonnie Brockman, and Theron Ellis. Grant saw considerable playing time, as he recorded 55 tackles, one forced fumble, and a tackle for a loss. The Mountaineers went undefeated and traveled to the national championship, but lost to Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Grant's most memorable moment of the season was in the 14-10 victory over Maryland. The Terrapins had the ball on the West Virginia three-yard line with under four minutes left. After three downs, the Terps went for it on fourth down. Terrapin quarterback Neil O'Donnell threw a pass out in the flat to Ricky Johnson, who had previously scored from 46-yards out. Grant, however, knocked Johnson out of bounds on the one-yard line to save the undefeated season and the victory for the Mountaineers.

The Khmer Krom (Khmer: ខ្មែរក្រោម, Vietnamese: Khơ Me Crộm) are Khmer people living in the Mekong Delta and the Lower Mekong River area. Under the Khmer Rouge regime- according to the conservative estimates are that 150,000. Under the rule of Vietnam from 1979-93, Cambodia may have lost 20,000 Khmer Krom. Today, they are regarded as the indigenous ethnic Khmer minority living in southern Vietnam.

In the Vietnamese language, they are known as Khơ-me Crộm or Khơ-me dưới, which literally means "Khmer from below" ("below" referring to the lower areas of the Mekong Delta).

The Khmer Krom are ethnic Khmer who inhabit Kampuchea Krom, an area in southern Vietnam that was once part of the Khmer Empire.

According to Vietnamese government figures (1999 census), there are 1,055,174 Khmer Krom in Vietnam.

Beginning in the early 17th century, colonization of the area by Vietnamese settlers gradually isolated the Khmer of the Mekong Delta from their brethren in Cambodia proper and resulted in their becoming a minority in the delta.

Somaly Mam (b. 1970 or 1971) is a Cambodian author and human rights advocate, focusing primarily on needs of victims of human sex trafficking, and has garnered official and media acclaim for her efforts.

Born to a tribal minority family in the Mondulkiri province of Cambodia, Somaly Mam began life in extreme poverty. With limited options as part of a severely marginalized ethnic group, and living in unimaginable despair, her family often resorted to desperate means to survive. This confluence of dire circumstances led to the unspeakable horrors that would mark Somaly's early years.

Somaly Mam does not have any birth records showing when she was born or who her parents were. In her memoir, The Road of Lost Innocence, she states that she was born in either 1970 or 1971. In the mid-1970s, Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge terrorized Cambodia and drove thousands of people into the country side. Essentially orphaned, Mam lived in a small Phnong village until a man picked her up and promised to find her father. She became his indentured servant or slave. Mam was instructed to call him "grandfather" because it's a sign of respect to the elderly.

Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 – September 28, 1991) was an American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. Widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Miles Davis was, with his musical groups, at the forefront of several major developments in jazz music, including bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, and jazz fusion.

Miles Dewey Davis was born on May 26, 1926, to an affluent African American family in Alton, Illinois. His father, Dr. Miles Henry Davis, was a dentist. In 1927 the family moved to East St. Louis, Illinois. They also owned a substantial ranch in northern Arkansas, where Davis learned to ride horses as a boy.

Davis' mother, Cleota Mae (Henry) Davis, wanted her son to learn the piano; she was a capable blues pianist but kept this fact hidden from her son. His musical studies began at 13, when his father gave him a trumpet and arranged lessons with local musician Elwood Buchanan. Davis later suggested that his father's instrument choice was made largely to irk his wife, who disliked the trumpet's sound. Against the fashion of the time, Buchanan stressed the importance of playing without vibrato; he was reported to have slapped Davis' knuckles every time he started using heavy vibrato. Davis would carry his clear signature tone throughout his career. He once remarked on its importance to him, saying, "I prefer a round sound with no attitude in it, like a round voice with not too much tremolo and not too much bass. Just right in the middle.
