In 2015, Slush brought together 15.000 attendees, including 1.700 startups, 800 venture capital investors and 630 journalists from exactly 100 countries. People from more than half of the world’s countries traveled to the cold and dark Helsinki, with the ambition of taking their business to the next level.
Slush is a non-profit event organized by a community of entrepreneurs, investors, students and festival organizers. Although Slush has grown from a 300-person event to become one of the leading events of its kind in the world, the philosophy behind it has remained the same: to help the next generation of great, world-conquering companies forward.

"We have been approached from different crisis, there are always contacts taken by different sources in the world. We have to be very careful where we go, we still have to follow the Aceh process because there are elections next year and see that peace development continues because it is very challenging, actually making peace is one thing but then how to build a peaceful society from there requires as much efforts as the peace negotiations and local parties, of course government and the parties required."

"I hope to work more and more with employment of youth because that's perhaps the greatest challenge in the world if one looks at the development challenges, and fight against terrorism as well, because estimates are there that in the decade to come, there will be 1.3 billion youngsters under 30 entering the labour market, from 15-16 to 29. And with traditional means we can employ only 300 millions. So what do we do with the nearly billion youngsters, who don't have any hope, no hope for work or better life? They are prime targets for criminals and terrorists, for their recruitment. So we have to seriously provide training that creates to the existing jobs and then make as many as these youngsters into entrepreneurs and see that they also get funding that it grows, and funding has to be more than in traditional micro-credits system."

STORYLINE:
Finland's ex-president Martti Ahtisaari received the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for his efforts to build a lasting peace from Africa and Asia to Europe and the Middle East.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee said it honoured Ahtisaari for important efforts over more than three decades to resolve international conflicts.
By selecting Ahtisaari, 71, for the prize, the Nobel committee returned its focus to traditional peace work after tapping climate campaigner Al Gore and the UN panel on climate change last year.
Speaking to AP Television, Ahtisaari said he "was very pleased and grateful" to receive the prize.
Ahtisaari said he hoped the prize would make it easier to attract financing for his peace work.
The secretive five-member committee said Ahtisaari's work across the world - Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East - proved that such efforts can have a profound effect on peace processes.
"For the past 20 years, he has figured prominently in endeavours to resolve several serious and long-lasting conflicts," the citation said, mentioning his work in conflicts from Namibia to Aceh, Indonesia, Kosovo and Iraq.
Ahtisaari had been listed as a possible Nobel Peace Prize candidate since 2005.
He initiated and mediated peace talks in Finland, and a peace agreement was signed in Helsinki.
Ahtisaari has had a broad career in politics and peacemaking.

WINDHOEK, 27 MAR (NAMPA) - Former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari paid a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob on Friday morning.
Ahtisaari was the United Nations (UN) Commissioner for Namibia from 1977 to 1981 to secure Namibia’s independence from South Africa
In April 1989, he was appointed UN Special Representative to head the United Nations Transition Assistance Group (UNTAG).
The diplomat was full of praises for Namibia during a very brief meeting with Geingob at Statehouse, sharing his experiences of his week-long visit to Namibia.
Ahtisaari, who addressed the media in a short interview after his call on the president, said Namibia is a leader when it comes to women’s representation in parliament.
“I must say I am very impressed how Namibia has progressed and the fact that Namibia now has free education for primary level, and hopefully that can be extended to secondary level as well,” he said.
Ahtisaari added that if it was not for his education, he would never have been able to become what he is now, noting that education and healthcare is very important for any country.
He said Namibia's development impressed him, and this country is not only an example to Africa but to the rest of the world.
Ahtisaari, who departs on Saturday for his native Finland, was in Namibia to attend the country’s Silver Jubilee celebrations and the swearing-in of Geingob as Namibia’s third president.
He also paid a visit to the Marti Ahtisaari Primary School in the Wanaheda area of the capital and several businesses in the Erongo Region.

STORYLINE:
Moderate Kosovo Serb leader Oliver Ivanovic met with United Nations envoy Martti Ahtisaari on Friday to receive his draft proposal for the future of the disputed province.
Ahtisaari's proposal does not mention the word "independence" but envisages that Kosovo should have its own constitution, anthem and flag, and have the right to apply for membership of international organisations.
It has been widely rejected by other Serb leaders, many of whom refused to meet with the UN envoy.
But Ivanovic told AP Television News it was important that he went to receive the documents from Ahtisaari in person.
"We think that this is a very important matter, and I would say a very serious moment and we think that nobody individually, no individual and not a single party has the right to take responsibility for such an important matter," he said.
"The Serbian delegation did not want to talk with Ahtisaari, instead we made the decision just to receive the documents," Ivanovic said.
Ahtisaari told reporters he would be "extremely happy" to be able to present the package to the UN Security Council by the end of March.
But Serbian President Boris Tadic, underscoring his country's fierce claims to Kosovo as the heart of its ancient homeland, rejected the plan just hours after Ahtisaari outlined it in Belgrade.
"I told Mr. Ahtisaari that Serbia and I, as its president, will never accept Kosovo's independence," Tadic declared in a statement.
Meanwhile in Pristina, Kosovo's provincial capital, President Fatmir Sejdiu said he and other leaders anticipated the prospect of "Kosovo
becoming an independent state," and pledged to guarantee the rights and security of its 100-thousand-member Serb minority.
But many Serbs living in Kosovo fear the proposal could leave them vulnerable to discrimination.
Ahtisaari's plan does offer Serbs "a high degree of control" over their own affairs by granting them six new Serb-administered municipalities and a greater voice in the higher education and health systems.
Serbs also would be granted "extensive municipal autonomy in financial matters, including the ability to accept transparent funding from Serbia."
The plan would also protect Serbian Orthodox Church sites and the Serbian language in the province, which is dominated by ethnic Albanians who are secular Muslims.
But this was not enough for Milan Ivanovic, a leader of the Kosovo Serb community, who said the UN proposal was not balanced and should not be accepted.
He described his proposal as "a draft" that could be changed after possible further talks.

"We think that this package will be the most important direct signal in speeding up the issue of deciding Kosovo's future. "This brings a new concept on the issue of sovereignty in this phase of development. In this period, Kosovo wants this international help. We seek help in 2 or 3 fields like police and rule of law. But we want the transfer of the UN authority to the international transitional presence and we want it to be concluded over a short period of time."
STORYLINE
Kosovo's President Fatmir Sejdiu said Friday he counts the U.N. proposal on the province's future status to pave way to the ethnic Albanian demand for independence.
Just weeks before the proposal is presented to ethnic Albanian leaders and Serbian officials, Sejdiu said he expected the chief U.N. envoy's package to constitute "direct help in the process of defining Kosovo's final status."
"We expect it to entail our determination and commitment for the future of Kosovo," Sejdiu told The Associated Press in an interview at his office in the downtown of Kosovo's capital, Pristina.
"We insist ... for this package to provide a clear formula for Kosovo's future, considering that Kosovo's people have no other determination, but the determination for independence" he added.
Martti Ahtisaari, who mediated yearlong inconclusive talks between ethnic Albanian and Serbian leaders, will make his proposal on the future of the province shortly after Sunday's parliamentary elections in Serbia.
EU diplomats in Brussels and other officials in the province said they expect the former Finnish president to recommend limited sovereignty for Serbia's breakaway province of Kosovo that could eventually lead to full independence for the region that has been a U.N. protectorate since mid-1999.
Ahtisaari's proposal must go to the U.N. Security Council for approval and is likely to result in a diplomatic clash between Russia and the U.S. Moscow strongly backs Belgrade's claims that Kosovo should remain part of Serbia while Washington appears to support full independence for the territory of 2 million people.
The plan is also expected to call for a post-status international presence in Kosovo to oversee the implementation of the accord, and it will likely have executive and corrective powers over laws and government decisions.
Sejdiu said the unveiling of the package is expected to lead to a new U.N. resolution on Kosovo that will "open the main gate leading to recognition of Kosovo as an independent state."
He said ethnic Albanian leaders have called it necessary to have a light international presence in Kosovo after the status is resolved and also NATO's troops which are to stay in ensure overall security for the province.

"We think that this package will be the most important direct signal in speeding up the issue of deciding Kosovo's future. I am talking with regards to Security Council that needs to invalidate Resolution 1244 and approve a new resolution that will sanction the new process and it will open the main gate leading to recognition of Kosovo as an independent state."

"This brings a new concept on the issue of sovereignty in this phase of development. In this period, Kosovo wants this international help. We seek help in 2 or 3 fields like police and rule of law. But we want the transfer of the UN authority to the international transitional presence and we want it to be concluded over a short period of time."

We are not accepting Martti Ahtisaari's plan, we are not going to accept that Serbia should lose part of its territory, and to lose sovereignty and territorial integrity. On the other hand our politics should protect our interests, and we have to change our strategy because now we are in a whole new phase of negotiations on the future status of Kosovo, and the old way of negotiations won't work any more. We need new initiatives and new ideas."

Serbia will never accept independence for Kosovo, President Boris Tadic said on Tuesday, announcing a diplomatic offensive aimed at persuading major world powers to keep the restive province within Serbia's borders.
In a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press, Tadic criticized a plan by chief UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari that envisages internationally supervised independence for Kosovo, and called for a "revision" of the UN-led process.
"We are not accepting Martti Ahtisaari's plan, we are not going to accept that Serbia should lose part of its territory, and to lose sovereignty and territorial integrity," Tadic said.
Tadic conceded that the yearlong process to determine the future status of Kosovo, Serbia's southern province and a UN protectorate since 1999, has entered a "whole new phase" since Ahtisaari formally presented his plan to the UN Security Council last week.
"The old way of negotiations won't work any more. We need new initiatives and new ideas," Tadic said, adding that Serbia's diplomatic offensive will focus on the United States, European Union and Russia.
But Tadic also added that efforts by Serbia to block final approval of the Ahtisaari plan at the Security Council should not harm its relationship with the US and its Western allies who have supported the blueprint.
"Our politics should protect our interests," Tadic said, and described Serbia's goal to eventually join the EU after years of wars and isolation under the 1990s rule of the late former autocratic President Slobodan Milosevic.
Tadic also said that four Serb paramilitaries seen in a video gunning down Bosnian Muslim civilians near Srebrenica in 1995 deserved "the maximum sentence."
The four were convicted of war crimes against civilians by Serbia's War Crimes Court.
The unit's commander, Slobodan Medic, and a fellow paramilitary were each sentenced to 20 years in prison, while the only defendant who admitted to shooting the victims, Pero Petrasevic, was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Another Scorpions member, accused as an accomplice, was sentenced to five years in jail, while a fifth was cleared.
