BBC Documentary on the new evidence for the authenticity for the Shroud of Turin - e.g., the Shroud has historical attestation which predates, substantially, the results of the radiocarbon tests.
For the answer to the question as to why the samples which were radiocarbon-dated seemed to have proven the Shroud was not authentic, please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?annotat... where the following information is divulged:
1. Interwoven Cotton
Ray Rogers (STURP Member): "...if you happen to hit a place where a yarn segment from the original Shroud was spliced into the new (reweaved) part, the splice very definitely shows the new yarn that was being put in and dyed to match. The only thing that was dyed or stained was this radiocarbon [dated] area; so, my hypothesis at the moment is that this was done on purpose to fool your eye [by the original artisan/s]."
2. Ultraviolet Photography
i. Ray Rogers (STURP Member): "[The corner from which the samples which were subjected to radiocarbon dating had been taken was]... significantly darker than any of the rest of the Shroud. ...the radiocarbon sample was hot; and if they had looked at any of the photographs that we had, and studied the information we *had* (as of 1978!), they would have known that that was the *worst possible place* that they could have taken a sample... My conclusion is that that area was manipulated - it was done by somebody with great skill, and [with] different materials than were used to make the Shroud."
ii. Barry Schwortz (STURP Member): "Had somebody paid attention to my photographs (of '78), and other data that we'd gathered, they would have chosen a different area [from which to extract material for the purpose of dating]."
3. Dyes, Gums & Resins Unique to the Sampled Corner
i. Ray Rogers (STURP Member): "You've got photomicrographs that demonstrated this very clearly: the cotton fibers from radiocarbon sample are fairly heavily-coated with the gum-dye, Mordant; and some of the linen fibers don't show any of that at all - they just as slick as anything and it didn't stick to them. ... They come in, and they [extract the samples] in secret, and take *the worst possible* sample they could [take]. The people who certified the sample[s] are still trying to convince everybody that 'everybody else is wrong' - they're [in the] right - 'those were perfectly valid samples'."
ii. Joseph S. Accetta (STURP Member): "Here's the whole crux of the [matter]: linen is very difficult to dye, and it ages as times goes on, so it's colored - so, in order to match a reweaving with the original color, you have to use cotton and you dye the cotton. Roy found some waxes on those samples that suggested to him that the threads were from the (so-called) 'invisible reweaving process'."
iii. Bob Villareal (Ret. Los Alamos Lab Chemist): "[Ray Rogers] wanted to know [whether] this corner of the Shroud was of the same composition [as the rest of the Shroud] - whether it was flax, or linen or cotton. If it was cotton it [would not have been] the same [composition] as [that of] the main Shroud... I received a call from [a colleague at Los Alamos Lab], 'The thread that I was going to analyze broke into two pieces! Is God gonna' be mad at me?'."
Narrator (who'd been informed by Bob Villareal): "The threads turned out to be two separate pieces woven together... but even more important was what held them together: a Mordant, a gum-like substance used to set dyes. This finding was a revelation - independent confirmation that this section of the Shroud had been dyed. Since Ray Rogers had long ago confirmed there were no dyes on the main body of the Shroud, it was now clear the carbon dating samples had been cut from an anomalous part of the Shroud: the damaged corner was not like the rest."

Barrie states: I watched the program and it is excellent.
This program discusses in accurate detail the scientific facts about the Shroud of Turin that show it is truly authentic. It addresses the infamous 1988 radiocarbon dating of the cloth that declared it medieval in origin and disputes those results with new scientific information that has come to light in recent years. It provides the viewer with an honest appraisal of what is truly known about the Shroud and does so in an interesting and honest manner. Barrie M. Schwortz STERA, Inc. http://shroud.com/
Review of recent documentary by Mark Guscin.
The Evidence and the True Face of the Shroud A documentary by Simon Brown of Real Discoveries.
With so many sceptical documentaries being produced, it is quite original to produce one that sets out to use the Shroud to prove the Bible stories of the resurrection – the presenter even leads viewers in a prayer at the end. The documentary also includes twenty minutes footage from the film The Gospel of John. The line taken is, of course, absolutely pro-authenticity. The film is in general very well presented and Barrie Schwortz does a really excellent job as main guest, clearly explaining many of the Shroud’s intricacies. The carbon 14 dating is explained using the Marino/Benford reweave theory, backed up by the late Ray Rogers, and a most convincing case is made for the idea.
Part 3.
Live interview Barrie M. Schwortz of Shroud.com. regarding the Shroud of Turin. Published on 6 Oct 2012.
The crucifixion is the most significant event in the history of man, when God's son Jesus Christ died so that we may be saved. Since that day, people have struggled to prove to themselves and others that the events described in the Bible really happened. Yet there remains only one real piece of concrete physical evidence for us to look at in order to discover the truth about Jesus.
The Shroud of Turin is said to be the burial cloth of Jesus, and it is certainly the most controversial and talked about artefact on the planet.
Analysed for hundreds of years by scholars and scientists, many believe that the Shroud holds the key to proving once and for all that Jesus died for our sins, just as described in The Bible.
We ask the greatest expert on the Shroud of Turin. One of God's Jews the following questions below:
Did the Turin Shroud play a part in the most important event in the history of Mankind?
Were there two cloths discovered that were used to bury Jesus? (As stated in the Bible.)
Why does the Bible state that Jesus was wrapped with strips of linen and not one cloth, like the Shroud we have today?
In the books of Exodus, Deuteronomy and Leviticus 26, God states-" Ye shall make you no idols nor graven images". So why would God break his own laws?
Isaiah 50:6 states:
I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. (NIV) (©1984)
Does the Shroud of Turin show any facial hair missing?
Why do certain Christians debunk the Shroud because it is in the hands of the Roman Catholics?
Why would Barrie go against his own faith, to prove that the Shroud is the genuine burial cloth of Jesus Christ ?
Sit down and fasten your seatbelts, as we ask Barrie the most controversial questions raised regarding the authenticity of the burial cloth, believed by many to have a 3 D image of Jesus on the Shroud.

Turin is a major city as well as a business and cultural centre in northern Italy, capital of the Piedmont region, located mainly on the left bank of the Po River surrounded by the Alpine arch. The population of the city proper is 909,193 (November 2008) while the population of the urban area is estimated by Eurostat to be 1.7 million inhabitants; the Turin metropolitan area is estimated by OECD to have a population of 2.2 million.
Turin is a flourishing, industrious and cosmopolitan European city, which enjoys state-of-the-art technology and architectural developments. The city boasts a rich culture and history, and is known for its numerous art galleries, restaurants, churches, palaces, operahouses, piazzas, parks, gardens, theatres, libraries, museums and other venues. Turin is well-known for its baroque, rococo and neo-classical architecture. Much of the city's public squares, castles, gardens and elegant palazzi (such as Palazzo Madama), were built by Sicilian architect Filippo Juvarra, who modeled these buildings on the Baroque and classical style of Versailles. Examples of these French-themed edifices include the Royal Palace of Turin, the Palazzina di caccia of Stupinigi and the Basilica di Superga. Turin is sometimes called the "cradle of Italian liberty", due to its having been the birthplace and home of notable politicians and people who contributed to the Risorgimento, such as Cavour. The city currently hosts some of Italy's best universities, colleges, academies, lycea and gymnasia, such as the Polytechnic University of Turin. Prestigious and important museums, such as the Museo Egizio[7] and the Mole Antonelliana are also found in the city. Turin's several monuments and sights make it one of the world's top 250 tourist destinations, and the tenth most visited city in Italy in 2008.
Turin used to be a major European political centre, being Italy's first capital city in 1861 and being home to the House of Savoy, Italy's royal family. Even though much of its political significance and importance had been lost by World War II, it became a major European crossroad for industry, commerce and trade, and currently is one of Italy's main industrial centres, being part of the famous "industrial triangle", along with Milan and Genoa. Turin is ranked third, after Rome and Milan, for economic strength. With a GDP of $58 billion, Turin is the world's 78th richest city by purchasing power, and even though the city was unable to become a "world city", unlike Milan or Rome, it was ranked by GaWC as "economically efficient", along with Jerusalem, Genoa, Macau, Marseille, Liverpool, Strasbourg, Salt Lake City, Seville and Tijuana, to name a few.Turin is also home to much of the Italian automotive industry.
Turin is well known as the home of the Shroud of Turin, the football teams Juventus F.C. and Torino F.C., the headquarters of automobile manufacturers Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo, and as host of the 2006 Winter Olympics. Several International Space Station modules, such as Harmony and Columbus, were also manufactured in Turin. It was the capital of the Duchy of Savoy from 1563, then of the Kingdom of Sardinia ruled by the Royal House of Savoy and finally the first capital of a unified Italy.
It is often referred to as "the Capital of the Alps". Turin is also known as "the Automobile Capital of Italy" or the Detroit of Italy; in Italy it is also called "[La] capitale Sabauda".

Rich in natural resources and landscapes, Piedmont offers the opportunity of enjoying sports, relax and entertainment, alternating leisure with cultural visits. In the special background of the Alps, internationally famous locations like Sestriere, Susa Valley and others offer a wide range of slopes where to practice many different sports: from steep slopes to cross-country skiing, from ice-skating to snowboarding, while those who love the thrill of adventure can go climbing on rocky mountains or rafting on rushing rivers

Tickets from Paris to Milan or Turin start at just €29 - for information or to buy tickets online see http://www.seat61.com/Paris-to-Milan-by-TGV-train.htm
A beginner's guide to travel from Paris to Turin or Milan by high-speed TGV train, showing the train interior & exterior, the scenery and the food on board. Three daily French TGVs link Paris Gare de Lyon with Turin and Milan, from €29 one-way booked direct with French Railways.
The video shows the 14:41 from Paris arriving Turin 20:13, Milan Porta Garibaldi at 21:45, with an easy connection from London St Pancras by Eurostar.
The video was taken in June, and there was still snow on the highest peaks - the weather wasn't great on this occasion, overcast with brooding clouds, the route looks far better in proper summer sun or winter snow!
Fans of BBC Top Gear may recognise a shot or two in this video - I supplied a few clips to the Beeb for their Wembley to Milan TGV-versus-Mustang 'race' first shown in February 2013.

Following our guide to Amsterdam, hosted by Tom Trago, FACT TV presents its second city guide: Turin.
Produced in association with the city's Club to Club festival, and hosted by Alis, a producer and singer who currently resides in Berlin but grew up in Turin, this guide aims to highlight some of the city's best spots for food (La Drogheria), drink (RAT), art (Artissima), records (Ultrasuoni) and more.
Turin is often known as the Detroit of Italy, due to its association with the automobile trade, and although it's not suffered anywhere near the financial problems that Detroit has, its clubbing scene has faced upheaval in recent years, with a series of clubs on the city's riverbank forced to close - something FACT TV's guide also explores. Running annually for the last 13 years, Club to Club has become one of Europe's best music and art festivals, with this year's (2013) edition featuring performances by Kode9, Dinos Chapman, Holly Herndon, Lee Gamble and more.

Video of our trip to Northern Italy including Milan, Hiking Cinque Terre from Monterosso to Riomaggori, and touring Turin.
TOP TRAVEL TIPS:
*To get to Cinque Terre, we flew into Milan, and took a train from Milan to Monterosso al Mare, which travelled through Genoa.
*The Cinque Terre hike is not easy, with several steep sections, but most somewhat fit people could probably do it.
*The train which links the towns is very easy and convenient, and it only takes around 15 minutes to get from one end of Cinque Terre to the other (Manorola to Riomaggori, or visa versa)
*I highly recommend staying in Monterosso. The town is the only one big enough to have anything to explore after the sun goes down. There is a west and east section of the town, with a beach, so there is plenty to do and see.
*We wish we spent three nights so we could have spent more time in Monterosso, although each of the towns are individually incredible.
*Turin (Torino) is one of my favorite cities in Italy. There are no tourists other than Italians and the city is very clean, yet Turin has that ancient Italian feel. If your travels take you near Turin, go there!

Take a tour of Mole Antonelliana in Turin, Italy -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Originally planned as a synagogue for the Jewish community, this spectacular landmark now beckons across the horizon to people of all religions.
Jutting into the abyss, this 1889 masterpiece of Italian elegance erupts to a staggering height of over fifty-five feet.
Named for its creator, Architect Alessandro Antonelli, it represents the love and passion he infused into this grand structure.
The detailed pillar of glass and stone envelopes a dazzling all-glass elevator which offers the sensation of flight.
Home to the National Museum of Cinema, this edifice is one of the tallest museums in the world.
Built over a span of twenty six years, the Mole Antonelliana has stood for over one hundred years as a testament of the history of Turin.

Take a tour of Basilica of Superga in Turin, Italy -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Basilica of Superga is picturesquely set atop a gently sloping hill over Turin, Italy.
It was constructed in the eighteenth century and features classical baroque architecture.
Its entrance of marvelous colonnades resembles the Pantheon in Greece.
The legend of the churches construction begins with two Italian princes who went to the summit of the hill to meet there enemy in battle and swore to erect a church if victorious.
Appropriately, the church has incorporated a magnificent fresco of this momentous battle into its elegant interior.
A prominent part of this church is the grand mausoleum in the Basilica's crypt, housing some of the beloved princes and princesses of Italy's history.

Turin (Turino) is an important business and cultural center, and capital of the Piedmont region. It is surrounded by the western Alpine arch.
The city has a rich culture and history, with many fascinating monuments, palaces, churches, and so forth. Turin is well known for its renaissance, baroque, rococo, neo-classical, and art nouveau architecture.
During our stay we visited:
- Piazza San Carlo (with Emmanuel Philibert on his horse)
- Palazzo Carignano
- Palazzo Madama and Piazza Castello
- the Palazzo Reale with it's extraordinary interiors
- Royal Church of S. Lorenzo
- Parco del Valentino and the Borgo Medievale,
stopping to admire Castello del Valentino
Many of the city's public squares, castles, gardens and elegant palazzi were built in the 16th and 18th century.
Turin was the birthplace and home of notable politicians and people who contributed to the Risorgimento.
The city was once a major European political center, being Italy's first capital city in 1861, and the home to the House of Savoy, Italy's royal family.
Although not as popular as other Italian cities, we found it to be a delightful place to visit. Many of the most interesting sights are concentrated in a single area, making it a very manageable destination.
