This is the fourth track off of Billy Joel's six album, 52nd Street. This was his first #1 album. Zanzibar is not a single.
Lyrics:
Ali dances and the audience applauds
Though he's bathed in sweat he hasn't lost his style
Ali don't you go downtown
You gave away another round for free
Me, I'm just another face at Zanzibar
But the waitress always serves a secret smile
She's waiting out in Shantytown
She's gonna pull the curtains down for me, for me
CHORUS
I've got the old man's car,
I've got a jazz guitar
I've got a tab at Zanzibar
Tonight that's where I'll be
Rose, he knows he's such a credit to the game,
But the Yankees grab the headlines every time
Melodrama's so much fun
In black and white for everyone to see
Me, I'm trying just to get to second base
And I'd steal it if she only gave the sign
She's gonna give the go ahead
The inning isn't over yet for me,for me
CHORUS
Tell the waitress I'll come back to Zanzibar
I'll be hiding in the darkness with my beer.
She's waiting out in Shantytown
She's gonna pull the curtains down for me, for me
CHORUS

Zanzibar or "Coast of Blacks" is a semi-autonomous island in Tanzania.
Some people from Shiraz immigrated to this island in 10 century AD. They traveled on sailboats. Ali Ibn Hasan was the first Iranian ruler who established a government in Tanzania.
Zanzibar is considered as one of the oldest regions of East Africa and is home to people of different colors and religions.
More than 90 percent of some 1 million population of Zanzibar are Muslim. Ali Ibn Hasan went to Zanzibar to begin trading with Eastern Africa. Shirazi people are involved in different religious activities in Zanzibar, including mourning ceremony of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia imam. They built mosques and invited people of the island to Shi'ism.
The history of an ancient Persian bath dates back to 12 A.H. It was built by an Iranian architect upon the order of an Omani king who married a Persian Princess.
Zanzibar painters have invented their own unique style of painting.
The ancient Iranian tradition of Nowruz was brought to Eastern Coasts of Africa by the Shirazi people as a souvenir. Many people from Zanzibar as well as reporters from all over the world come to the celebration venue to see Nowruz ceremony.

The CCM government have been breaching democracy for fifty years and commit the ongoing massacre of innocent Zanzibaris.
For the first thirty years, the CCM government never allowed any other party in both countries, Tanganyika and Zanzibar, to take part in its general elections. In other words, dictatorship was and still is being practiced in 2015. The CCM have been rigging the votes and killing innocent Zanzibaris, despite the statements and warnings of sanctions from the international community.
Due to international pressure since 1995, the CCM have had no choice but to accept begrudgingly and establish a system that is, in reality, less of the multiparty democracy that it was supposed to be, and more a deceptive mask in the hope of fooling others.
The UN, Commonwealth, and Human Rights organisations are putting the people of Zanzibar at risk by introducing democracy to tyrannical leaders who never wanted democracy in the first place, and who instead declare war against anyone who dares vote against the ruling CCM. As we speak, Balozi Sefued of the CCM party issued a statement on the 4th November 2015 to punish everyone on the twin island of Pemba due to CCM losing all of its constituencies there. Asha Bakari, a CCM Government Minister, issued another statement to massacre any group who wins over CCM in Zanzibar; she calls it revolution while other ministers and MPs cheer her on.
Under CCM, the Tanzanian government have been declaring openly to the people of Zanzibar that they can now have a position party, but that they should not be deceived into thinking that this will win them the government by simply casting their vote. Instead they will have to arm themselves, as CCM will never allow anyone to lead the country through peaceful means, even with the help of international communities. Asha Bakari elaborates this further by declaring that CCM means ‘chama cha mapinduzi’ - a revolution party practiced only through violent means. The number of CCM government ministers and MPs have been using these kind of statements inside Tanzanian parliament as well as on public stages.
Who is liable now for the travesty in Zanzibar? Why did international communities create a witch hunt for Zanzibaris, only to then walk away? The same government under CCM is plotting genocide for the people who voted against the CMM, most notably Pemba, an Zanzibar island, where CCM did not get a single seat from any of its constituencies to date.
In despite of a peaceful election process in October 2015, even under UN international observers including as can be seen from the video, the CCM government managed to stop the announcement of the future leading presidential candidate when they had realised that their ruling party had lost.
The presidential term of the CCM president, Dr Shein, ended on the 2nd November 2015, but he has decided to continue ruling over Zanzibar by force, regardless of the Zanzibar Law Society advisors as well as the Zanzibar constitution. This only confirms that power is being dictated by violence and not by the number of votes.
wn.com/Stop Genocide In Zanzibar

Zanzibar -- The Dark Side of Paradise is a twenty minute news documentary which looks at the causes and consequences of the longest blackout in history. The film assesses how unremitting power problems in the Spice Islands are putting their fragile economy at great risk, whilst also denying their impoverished population a safe water supply. It also provides a background of Zanzibar's current political situation and their dependence on tourism in order to illustrate why the power cuts are only serving to aggravate an already dire situation.

Zanzibar is a paradise-like island just off the Tanzanian coast. An island of spice and exotic aromas, sultans' palaces, harems, shining white beaches and fiery red sunsets.
The ancient oriental city of Zanzibar derived its name from its many old stone buildings. Charming and mysterious, they have witnessed much of the island's dramatic past and the tangled architecture of coral stone and shell lime serves as a fascinating backdrop to this colorful city that is strongly influenced by an Arabian way of life.
In the north of the old town is one of the island's most beautiful buildings, the Ismali Dispensarium. It was built by a wealthy Indian businessman and was originally a hospital with an adjoining pharmacy. Today it contains a cultural centre.
The house of the infamous Tippu Tip, who was once Zanzibar's biggest slave trader, has not yet been restored. He was an extremely unpleasant man who sent his servants into the African bush to catch slaves who were later sold in Zanzibar. Livingstone House was built in 1861. The famous missionary and explorer once resided there prior to going on his final expedition. He was frequently the guest of Tippu Tip who offered Dr. Livingstone various maps that were based upon his slave routes.
A tropical paradise just off the African coast with the flair of the Orient, historic architecture and the colors of Africa. Zanzibar is most assuredly a legendary and fairy-tale island of global culture.

Read my full review here: http://migrationology.com/?p=16622 From Tanzania, we traveled to Zanzibar in order to travel around the island and to research for the upcoming Migrationology Zanzibar travel guide. In Nungwi we stayed at Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel, located on the East side of the village of Nungwi. The resort is located on a private stretch of Indian Ocean beach and offers extreme peace and quiet with great views of the ocean.
Our room faced the ocean, and we could sit on the patio and enjoy spectacular views. The rooms are set up with a little local Zanzibari flavor, and packed with comforting amenities. The Zanzibar style bed in the room at Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel, was indeed one of the most comfortable beds I slept in while on the island. Our room was also equipped with a fridge and mini bar, a hot water heat (useful because I love to sit around all day and drink coffee and tea), and a safe deposit box where I could put our valuables, and it was also big enough to fit my laptop when we'd go on an outdoor adventure.
On the east coast of Zanzibar, the high and low tides are drastically different, but both tides are beautiful in their own respect. At high tide, the water comes all the way up to Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel, crashing against the rocks. At low tide, the water declines way down the beach, creating a good opportunity to put on some reef walking shoes and explore the little pools of calm water.
Here are a few more thoughts about Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel: Incredibly quiet, Stunning views of the ocean, Beach is beautiful, but not the best for swimming, Staff are extremely helpful and service is outstanding, Everything is available on facility (self contained) - so if you wanted, you could do just about everything from Ras Nungwi - stay, eat, drink, dive, spa, tennis etc., there's also a pool table, ping pong table, foosball, and darts. Wi-fi is available only in the communal lounge, not in rooms, While security is very good at the hotel and on the beach in front of the hotel, if you wander in either direction (like towards Nungwi village), you've got to be careful of your belongings - only bring a little cash on you and a small camera. Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel caters to those looking for peace and relaxation, beautiful views of the ocean, and top notch service. It's the type of place you'll want to rotate from eating to reading a book to taking a swim - and repeat - and no one's going to say you're being lazy!

Travel video about destination Tanzania.
Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa and is located slightly south of the Equator. Its large variety of nature is overwhelming and includes the Serengeti and Selous Nature Reserves, the snow-covered Kilimanjaro and the spice island of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean. It is a country of superlatives that originated in 1964 as a result of the union of two independent countries, Tanganika and Zanzibar. On the slopes of Meru and Kilimanjaro, coffee, maize, bananas and vegetables are grown and then offered for sale at various markets. Due to its fertile volcanic soil the entire region has been used for agriculture since the middle of the nineteenth century by both the Arusha Massai and Meru tribes. The Arusha National Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Africa and its green forests are a perfect playground for the countless monkeys that live there. Around twenty million years ago its landscape was created due to volcanic activity and wonderful craters were formed as well as impressive volcanic cones. The swampy forest on the slopes of the Rift Valley features more than thirty different varieties of tree, an impressive area that offers distant views across fascinating and untouched nature and for the many wealthy tourists who spend their money in the region there are various special locations that provide excellent accommodation. The origins of the Selous Game Reserve date back to German colonial times at the beginning of the twentieth century. Later, under British rule, they were united into a large protected area. Tanzania is a natural paradise that is still known by only a few. An exotic country and one that is still waiting to be explored!

Bill and Caroline's fun filled "Beach and Bush" tour of Tanzania! Okay the first part is a spoof but that is all part of the fun. We started in Zanzibar, and then worked our way north to Lake Victoria. Along the way, we stopped in Arusha, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, and finally, Mwanza on Lake Victoria. And oh yes, we do recommend you use a Safari Guide to make things go easier.

Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa, bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north; Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south.
Do in Tanzania
============
1 - Safari While you are in Tanzania you may organize your safari to Serengeti and other National parks at an affordable price. If there's one trip that will change your perspective on life, it's an African safari. Contact some of the tour operators for Safari Details.
2 - Cultural Tours Touring Tanzania for culture is interestingly great as it encompasses more than 150+ ethnic groups. There is plenty of traditional food, cultural practices (such as hunting with bushmen, beeskeeping, traditional medicine) that one enjoys within the boundaries. You will also get to visit a number of locations that normally people would be completely unaware of. If you happen to be a person who loves to explore the world and meet new people in order to gain knowledge about different customs, a cultural tour is definitely the best type of vacation for you.The services are not expensive and can turn out to be cheaper than expected provided you get the right information on where to stay, best tour companies and just knowledge of what you want. This way, it will save you time and costs as well.
3 - There are loads of National Parks for those wanting to watch Tanzania's wildlife. You can gain entry for around $100 US and benefit from a tour (and perhaps a night's accommodation). The better parks, though packed with tourists, are found in the north of the country. Ruaha National Park is the best in the south (locals actually say this is the best park, especially if you want to see wild animals as opposed to semi-tame ones in the northern parks). Don't just be sucked into the tourist circuit in the north; the south offers great parks and towns (base yourself out of Iringa), and you will feel less of a tourist and more of a guest if you travel this way.
4 - Scuba diving in and around Pemba and Zanzibar is another good experience.
5 - You can also visit numerous historical Slave Trade sites, which could make for an interesting, if a little depressing, excursion.
6 - Beaches: Did you know that Tanzania has some of the best, most unspoiled beaches in the world? They are stunning, with their white sand, palm trees, and cool Indian Ocean water!
7 - Kayak the beautiful coastal waters with a tour operator.
8 - Tanzania has two of the best Stone Age sites in the world: Isimila Gorge (near Iringa) and the earliest known examples of human art among the rock paintings, near Kolo, north of Dodoma -- some of which are reckoned to be around 30,000 years old.
9 - Kilimanjaro is one of Tanzania's main attractions. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. Many visitors come to Tanzania to summit this great mountain. The main peak is estimated to be 5895m high making it a real challenge for mountaineers.

Africa’s culture has been enriched by the proud and famous Massai, a noble tribe of herdsmen and the spacious plains of Kenya and Tanzania are their homeland. As the Massai did not tolerate foreign hunters, the area of Amboseli at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro has in the main been spared from poachers. Much of the summit of the huge mountain is covered by cloud and at nearly six thousand metres above sea level it is Africa’s highest mountain. Tens of thousands of flamingos transform Lake Bogoria into a colourful spectacle and its many geysers give the landscape an air of mystique, the hot springs highlighting the enormous energy that lies beneath the earth’s surface. Located at the southern tip of Africa, South Africa is surrounded by two oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian. Both the country and its inhabitants are in many ways remarkable and the cultural variety of several ethnic communities has been well maintained. The Kalahari in Botswana is one of the most sparsely populated areas in the world yet it has been inhabited for thousands of years: its Bushmen are proud of their long history. The San are a tribe of hunter gatherers who continue to use their extraordinary knowledge of nature right up to the present day. Just off the Tanzanian coast is the legendary island of Zanzibar once feared because of pirates but at the same time appreciated for its marvellous spices and in the ancient town of Stone Town several buildings have been restored and now shine out once again in all of their historic glory. Africa, the Dark Continent - but with all the fascinating colours of the rainbow!
