One of the most common ways most people fight is with the one arm lapel grab, which basically just means someone coming, grabbing you by the shirt, and punching you nonstop. Another unorthodox way is an attacker coming at you throwing wild punches randomly, with a lot of force behind them. Both manners are unexpected and happen quickly, you don't know what your attacker could be thinking or how he will react. You should be aware of everything and anything, in this case.
You should expect the unexpected in this type of situation. Question whether your attacker has backup, or if he is carrying a weapon. You have to assume the worst.
For the one arm lapel, seeing as your attacker is much larger than you, he has the upper hand in strength. When he grabs you by your shirt, you need to be aware that the arm that is there might strike you when you least expect it. So, it is best to trap it there, just to be safe.
Having blocked the arm that has grabbed you, you need to see if you can find an opportunity to block his strikes that are coming from his other hand.
Strength plays a big role here. If you try to outmuscle such a larger and bigger opponent, you might end up on the ground, with him towering over you. You want to avoid this.
Instead, your goal should be to trap his arms and hands before your attacker starts to strike you. Bringing his arm down and using all your force to keep him there could help you survive the situation.
In self-defense, size does matter, along with speed and range. However, just because you are smaller than your attacker does not mean you should let him have the upper hand and injure you to the point of death! Being smart, and applying intelligent techniques and movement can help you survive the outcome.

Tiananmen Square-Beijing, China (Private Tour + Historical Facts)
My Beijing guide Sam gave me a tour of Tiananmen Square, the third largest square in the world, which can hold 600,000 people. It was the site of Chairman Mao's famous speech in 1949 announcing the creation of the People's Republic of China. It was also the site of the 1989 pro-democracy protests where many civilians were killed. The Square features the Tiananmen Gate (entrance to Forbidden City),

This segment in the Assignment:China series focuses on the coverage by American news organizations of the dramatic events in Beijing in 1989. Students marched in cities all over China, but it was the demonstrations in China's symbolic center, Tiananmen Square, that captured the attention and imagination of people worldwide and especially in the United States.
When Hu Yaobang died on April 15, students seized on the opportunity to remember him and to criticize his successors. Chinese leaders were divided on how to handle the protests that ensued. What followed was an extraordinary seven weeks where large numbers of Chinese in dozens of cities marched and demonstrated to express their grievances and to call for change. As the political center of China, most of the world's attention was focused on the protests there.
The American press corps in China had grown since the first journalists arrived with the establishment of diplomatic relations, but it was still relatively small compared to today. Covering China remained (and remains) complicated and difficult. In December 1986, for example, two television crews were detained and had their videotape confiscated as they attempted to cover student demonstrations. This segment of Assignment:China focuses on the stories of journalists who struggled to understand what was happening in Beijing that spring and to help Americans get a sense of the issues and forces at play. We hear from them about the political, cultural, physical, and technological challenges of covering the demonstrations, how they were being seen by the larger society, and the response of the party-state.
The press corps grew as the protests continued, especially as the mid-May Soviet Union-China summit meeting drew near. The upcoming meeting between Mikhail Gorbachev and his Chinese counterparts would be the first meeting between the leaders of the Communist giants in three decades. Gorbachev, of course, had made headlines worldwide with his perestroika (restructuring) and glasnost (openness) reforms.
Assignment:China "Tiananmen Square" shows how Gorbachev's arrival and his departure affected the ability of television networks to broadcast news via satellite directly from the square and how reporters used early mobile phones to report from China. But we also learn how essential less-cutting edge technology, such as bicycles, was as well.
For the participants, for the correspondents, and for audiences, an overriding question from April to June 3 was "how will this end?" For many outside China, the ending is most of what is remembered.
The documentary shows how journalists sought to make sense of the party-state's restraint and why the April 26 People's Daily labelling the unrest as "a grave political struggle facing the whole Party and the people of all nationalities" nor the declaration of martial law on May 20 did not end the protests. When the armored personnel carriers and tanks did roll and armed soldiers were sent in, several of the journalists interviewed in Assignment:China were there. We hear how they sought to document the extent of the violence and we learn the story behind the "tank man" image that has come to symbolize the demonstrations and their violent end.
We learn how journalists knew what they reported, but also how their values, expectations, or sources caused them to overemphasize some things and to miss others. And we hear from U.S. Secretary of State James Baker how the immediacy of the coverage meant that the administration needed to react in real time.
Twenty-five years have passed since students and others waved banners calling for greater freedom and official accountability in Tiananmen Square. The patriotism and optimism of the demonstrators and the violence that ended the demonstrations deeply moved people worldwide. Those seven weeks have had a profound influence on what Americans and others think about China. Assignment:China -- Tiananmen Square tells how those stories were brought to American audiences.

I strongly disagreed. I said to him, 'Let's see. I am always Chinese, no matter if it's in the past, in the present or in the future'. At that moment, I thought about the year 1997 when Hong Kong would be returned to China. At that moment, I decided to stay in Hong Kong and wait for the coming of the year of 1997."

It didn't matter if they would put me in jail or kill me. Some friends tried to persuade me to leave. I was very tired at the time, in poor health. They said to me that you can leave now and come back to China and do good things in the future."

The Square features the Tiananmen Gate (entrance to Forbidden City), National Museum of China, Chairman Mao's Mausoleum, Great Hall of the People, and the Monument to the People's Heroes.

After 3 days of torrential downpour in Beijing, our last full day was a beautiful one and the perfect time to hit up Tiananmen Square and the Badaling section of The Great Wall! As you'll see, walking into one of the world's largest open square isn't just a quick walk and you're there. We were pushed and shoved for a good 30 minutes before we made it there. Luckily for us, we got good at the China way of lining up which is every person for themselves (throw dem bows!) At first, this was total culture shock but surprisingly by the end of our time in China we got used to it and just went with the flow. It's amazing what you can get used to. As soon as we crossed the street, the reality of where we were started to sink in. Tiananmen square is known by many for the role it played as the focal point of the 1989 student led pro democracy movement. The protests were sparked by the sudden death of the former Communist party general secretary and liberal reformer Hu Yaobang, after university students began to gather in the square en masse. The protesting lasted for 7 weeks throughout Beijing until a military crackdown on the protests was ordered by the top level leadership of the Chinese Communist Party. Shockingly, things came to a bloody conclusion when the military began firing on unarmed civilians on the night on June 3. The violence continued for another day as the PLA continued clearing protesters from in, and around the Square. The following day on June 5th, the iconography of the Tiananmen square massacre was solidified when a picture of of a lone man blocking a column of tanks leaving the sqaure was taken.
While we were in the square, cameras and armed guards watched our every move... this was made all the more chilling considering that the Chinese government continues to go to great lengths to censor this historical event from public memory. To this day Google, Youtube, twitter, facebook, etc. are all still BLOCKED... so if you would like to know more about this atrocity, we encourage you to exercise your freedom to information and get to Googling. We weren't able to give this subject it's due justice with this video, and the memory of the Tiananman square massacre needs to live on.
The wall was the perfect way to end the day and it was made all the better knowing we did it independently and saved ourselves a small fortune. There are dozens of tours, but do your homework and you can easily tackle this wonder all by yourself and take your time. At the end of the day, we spent only $22 - that's admission, transportation, and really expensive water and ice cream bought at the wall.
