Travel Guide to Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Teranganu)

Get more things to do in Kuala Lumpur, and travel tips: http://migrationology.com/2014/02/kuala-lumpur-travel-guide-food-lovers/
I'm Mark Wiens and thank you very much for watching this video about a few of the top things to do in Kuala Lumpur, a city that just happens to be one of my favorite cities to visit in Southeast Asia. It's the largest and probably the most important and influential city in Malaysia and truly has some amazing sites to offer. Along with modern skyrise towers like the Petronas Towers, there are still lots of traditional historic buildings as well. The awesome mixture of cultures, the mix of traditional and modern, and very importantly, the outstanding cuisine is what makes Kuala Lumpur such a great city to explore!
1. On this list of top things to do in Kuala Lumpur I first stop by the most famous landmark of the the city: the Petronas Towers. These twin giant sky scrapers are huge, and they literally reach towards the heavens and touch the clouds. On the bottom of the Petronas Towers is a pretty fancy shopping mall while the tops of the towers are filled with offices. On the 41st and 42nd floor, there is a sky bridge which connects the two towers together and which is open for visitors. Years ago, it used to be free entrance but unfortunately now they have started to charge a rather steep 80 Malaysian Ringgits per person.
2. After the visiting the Petronas towers, number two on the list is the historical district of old Kuala Lumpur. Visiting and walking around the area is one of the top things to do in Kuala Lumpur and you shouldn't miss the opportunity. From Merdeka Square to the old railroad station, you'll see some amazing architecture and buildings. Another must visit is the National Mosque, which is known as Masjid Negara. With a capacity of 15,000, this is the central and most visited mosque in the city.
3. The Menara KL Tower, along with the Petronas Towers, is one of the dominating features of Kuala Lumpur's skyline. At 421 meters in height, it's one of the world's tallest communications towers. I was lucky enough to be invited to the annual BASE jumping event which was held at the KL Tower so I had a pass to go to the top for the incredible view and to see the event (http://migrationology.com/2012/10/jordan-kilgore-base-jump-kuala-lumpur/). The KL Tower also offer look out viewpoints and a number of restaurants where you can dine with an incredible view.
4. Number 4 is Little India which is better known as Brickfields. Kuala Lumpur is home to many Indian's many from the south of the country. Brickfields is a popular place to browse, shop for all sorts of Indian products and most importantly to eat at some seriously delicious Indian restaurants. If you're looking for good Indian food in Kuala Lumpur, check out this restaurant: http://migrationology.com/2012/11/south-indian-food-kuala-lumpur-vishalatchi/
5. Chinatown, located on Petaling Street, is one of the biggest Kuala Lumpur attractions. It's mostly known for it street shopping and restaurants. You can find all sorts of fake brand names and nearly everything imaginable.
6. Thean Hou Temple is one of the most impressive Daoist temples in Kuala Lumpur. It's free to visit and offers insights into the Hainanese community in the city and there are also great views of the city.
7. Central Market, is a top tourist shopping attraction in Kuala Lumpur. Though many of the products are rather touristy, there are some good things waiting to be found.
8. Within central Kuala Lumpur are the KL Lake Gardens and Bird Park. It makes a great tropical escape to the bustling city life.
9. The Batu Caves, located just outside the central part of the city is one of the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur. The caves and shrines are one of the most sacred Hindu sites outside of India.
10. Chow Kit Market is the central fresh wet market in the city. Everyday thousands of shoppers get their Malaysian food ingredients at this interesting market.
11. Malaysian food is the ultimate attraction to visiting Kuala Lumpur. With a great mixture of local Malay, Chinese, and Indian, there's no shortage of incredible dining that will leave you satisfied and hungry for more! For myself, eating is one of the best things to do in Kuala Lumpur!
Hope you enjoyed this list and hope you have a wonderful visit!

Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1857 by a member of the Selangor royal family, Raja Abdullah, who was the representative of the Yam Tuan who administered Klang. Together with Raja Jumaat of Lukut and 87 Chinese workers, he came to explore the district in search for tin ore. After travelling up the Klang River to reach its confluence with the Gombak River, they made their way through deep jungle and found tin near Ampang. That moment marked the beginning of KL's development. Over the years it grew from a tin miner's camp into a commercial centre that was able to attract large numbers of investors from around various places.
Here's your essential Kuala Lumpur travel guide this July 2015 - Miss Universe Malaysia 2013 Carey Ng and host Josiah Mizukami tour you around the best places to eat, drink, shop, and play in Kuala Lumpur.
You'll never have a hard time hailing a cab in Kuala Lumpur with MYTEKSI. Just download the mobile app and get a taxi safely whenever you are. With just two taps, you're off to a day of sightseeing in the city. Hop on the KL Horse and Carriage Ride and explore the amazing sights the city has to offer.
While in Kuala Lumpur, make sure you also check out these places and attractions:

Kuala Lumpur in a day VLOG vv More Info Down Here vv
We haven't been to Kuala Lumpur for over 10 years. So on our way to the Philippines we decided to transit from Chiang Mai through KL and see what things there were to do in a day.
We had less than 24 hours in Kuala Lumpur so we took the KLIA express train from the airport and chose to stay at Le Apple Boutique Hotel which was very close to the Petronas Towers. HOTEL LINK: http://www.agoda.com/le-apple-boutique-hotel-klcc/hotel/kuala-lumpur-my.html?cid=1644474
After checking in we headed straight out exploring Kuala Lumpur and ended up at Avenue K shopping centre, the Library Coffee bar, KLCC Park and the famous Petronas Towers themselves.
After that we head to the Taste Enclave upmarket food court for some Malaysian food and get a coffee at Juan Valdez Cafe before heading back to the Symphony Lake at KLCC park to watch the water fountain music display at night.
We had a nice day. 24 hours in Kuala Lumpur done.
If our videos or blog have helped you in any way and you want to 'say thanks'. We have a little thing set up where you can say thank you with coffee and cake. All that caffeine and sugar helps us to keep making these vids for you guys ;-)

Kuala Lumpur Time Lapse: super-modern buildings juxtaposed with various cultural enclaves and with a little of Asia's chaos thrown in. My time lapse explores how the city changes from day to night highlighting how spaces dramatically alter during the course of a few hours.

Travel video about destination Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's modern capital city, is relatively young. It originated in the middle of the 19th century at the junction of the Gombak and Kelang Rivers.
The Petronas Twin Towers are one of the city's main landmarks. Each tower is 452 metres tall connected by a breathtaking bridge. The façade of this unique architectural gem is particularly splendid in bright sunlight or when illuminated at night.
The old Masjid Jamek Mosque is situated in the centre of the city on the precise spot where the city was founded. Several prayer halls, and an inner courtyard that contains palm trees, make the mosque into a tranquil oasis.
The Sultan Abdul Samad Building, the largest building in Merdeka Square, extends for more than 200 metres. This splendid Moorish style building with onion-shaped towers and a central clock tower was designed in 1897 by architect A.C. Norman.
Malaysians dance at every opportunity. Although traditional clothing and dance styles change from region to region, they always convey the same expressions of love, emotion and passion. Traditional festivals also feature dances where the men and women dance together without touching.
The Zoo, Negara provides a good insight into the animal kingdom of Malaysia and South East Asia. The enclosures are extremely spacious. From the ostrich to the imposing Seladang wild buffalo, there are also rare animals such as the orangutan and tapir.
Hardly any other capital city on earth offers as many contrasting sights and multicultural impressions as here. Tradition, history, the past, present and future, each is harmonically united in the pulsating metropolis that is Kuala Lumpur.

In this travel video travel guide to Malaysia, I travel to Malaysia's capital city, Kuala Lumpur, and to Terangganu, the country's second-largest city.
I start off my trip by exploring Kenyir Lake, located just west of Terangganu, which is actually the largest man-made lake in Southeast Asia (it's the size of Singapore). I head to the far end of the lake by speedboat to go trekking into the hilly jungle where I come across a school of hungry fish waiting for eager tourists like myself to provide them with a cheap snack. I then head back on the lake to explore the many islands that call this lake home.
Next, I head back onto the water -- this time onto the ocean -- to do a little squid jigging as part of the first annual Terengganu International Squid Jigging Fest. Squid jigging, for those of you that don't know, is the act of fishing for squid by hand with a line and hook, something I have questionable skill doing.
Back onto dry land, I explore the market in Terangganu, one of the best places to find fresh seafood in the entire country, and try some of the region's favorite desserts and iced coffee.
For the second half of the video, I head east to the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, where I -- what else? -- find some street food in the famous Chow Kit neighborhood, followed by a little more food in Kampung Baru, a sleeping Malay enclave flanked by the city's downtown tower.
I then take the monorail (!) to explore the Petronas Towers and the KL Tower, two of the city's most famous landmarks, followed by dinner in Jalan Alor, the city's famed outdoor street food district.
Finally, it's time for a little rest and relaxation back on the west coast of Malaysia at the island of Redang, one of the country's most beautiful tropical islands, where I get to experience what beach life is like in Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur (called simply KL by locals) is the federal capital and the largest city in Malaysia.
Literally meaning "muddy river confluence" in Malay, Kuala Lumpur has grown from a small sleepy Chinese tin-mining village to a bustling metropolis of around 6.5 million (city-proper population of 1.8 million) in just 150 years. A cultural melting pot with some of the world's cheapest 5-star hotels, great shopping, even better food and some of nature's wonders in just an hour away, this dynamic city has much to offer for every visitor.
See in Kuala Lumpur
===================
Kuala Lumpur is short on must-see attractions: beyond the Petronas Twin Towers, the real joy lies in wandering randomly, seeing, shopping and eating your way through it.
KL hosts an amazing variety of architectural delights. The grandest old British colonial buildings lie in the city centre and include the former offices of the Colonial Secretariat (now the Sultan Abdul Samad Building) on Merdeka Square and the old Kuala Lumpur Railway station. They blend themes from the architecture of Britain and North Africa. On Merdeka Square's west side, looking like a rejected transplant straight from Stratford-upon-Avon is the Royal Selangor Club. Near Merdeka Square is Masjid Jamek, a charming Moorish-style mosque set at a confluence on the Klang River. The National Mosque, Masjid Negara, (1965) celebrates the bold ambitions of the newly independent Malaysia. The National Monument in the pretty Lake Gardens is inspired by the Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington, Virginia. The ASEAN sculpture garden is nearby. Also in the lake gardens is Carcosa Seri Negara, the former residence of the British High Commissioner, which now houses an upmarket hotel and colonial-style tea rooms. While some buildings in the high-rise Golden Triangle, such as the KL Tower, are uninspired copies of other famous structures, the Petronas Twin Towers are truly marvelous.
Within the city centre is also the fascinating narrow streets of Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur's traditional commercial district, with its many Chinese shops and places to eat.
KL is hot, humid and sometimes crowded, so schedule some cooling off in air-conditioned shopping malls or restaurants. You may find that most attractions are only crowded on weekends and holidays and are otherwise deserted on weekdays.
Do in Kuala Lumpur
====================
KL is mainly known for its eating and shopping, which are adequately covered by the Eat and Buy sections.
Other activities include usual urban sports such as golfing, cycling, running, jogging and horse riding. If you’re into rock climbing, the Batu Caves in the Northern suburbs is popular. However given Malaysia's stunning terrain, you’re better off heading to other places for anything more strenuous or challenging.
Several good theatres and performance halls have emerged as part of Malaysia's drive to encourage greater cultural expression. These include the National Theatre (Istana Budaya) and the KL Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) in the northern part of the city, the KL Philharmonic in the Twin Towers, and the Actors Studio at Lot 10.
Leading museums in the city centre are the National Museum, which covers the region's history, and the well-regarded Islamic Arts Museum, which houses a small but captivating collection. Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery is a modern museum linked to the country's national bank with well-designed galleries on Malaysian economic development, Islamic finance, the history of the central bank, and the national's banks own art collection.
Pampering and spas can be found in several five-star hotels and independent centres in the Golden Triangle. There's also nail parlours and beauty salons, which are generally good value, there's also high-end ones offering similar services for a premium. Reflexology and foot massage places are everywhere, especially in Bukit Bintang in the Golden Triangle and in Chinatown.
Kuala Lumpur also has several theme parks around the city and in the surrounding cities. The most famous of these parks is Sunway Lagoon in the neighbouring city of Subang Jaya. The theme park has rides, a huge waterpark, an extreme park for adventure junkies, a scream park for those wanting a good scare, and a petting zoo for children. Sunway Lagoon is a 40 minute drive from central Kuala Lumpur in good traffic.
You can also watch the local football match at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras. Kuala Lumpur FA is a football team based in Kuala Lumpur and currently plays in the top divison of football in Malaysia. the Malaysia Super League. Match schedule and fixture can be seen at the KLFA website.

This is a Kuala Lumpur travel video showcasing our favorite things to do along with what we consider to be the top attractions in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. From this travel video guide you should get an idea of an itinerary or schedule you can plan activities around while based in KL.
We first venture off to marvel at the magnificent Petronas Towers. These otherworldly towers are the most impressive buildings I've ever seen in my entire life. They don't look like they belong on planet earth. Equally as impressive during the day as they are at night, I recommend visiting the towers frequently and scouting out various vantage points to take photos.
Next we tour around the Independence Square (Merdeka Square) located nearby Chinatown. The impressive architecture and enormous flag are standout features. If you come early enough you can beat the tourist buses and at night the buildings really shine.
No trip to Kuala Lumpur would be complete without hopping on and off the LRT sky train. At night we took a ride and captured some high speed footage. You get a glimpse of the Petronas Towers before we head into the tunnels.
Just 13 km north of KL is a special Hindu Shrine called the Batu Caves. Dedicated to Lord Murugan it's a wonderful free attraction worth exploring. While visiting you'll notice your share of cheeky monkeys roaming about.
Finally for breakfast, lunch or dinner consider having roti canai (flat bread) along with curry. My personal favorite is banana roti along with watermelon juice.

Before you cozy up in the airport for a long layover in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, consider all the adventures you could have outside the terminal walls. Several hours is more than enough time to get a sense of the city, so instead of longingly looking out the airport windows, hail a cab and experience one day in Kuala Lumpur before your next flight.
The capital city is home to various things to do, from sightseeing to shopping. Begin your romp at the Petronas Twin Towers, where you can view the city from the observation deck and stroll across the Skybridge. If you’re ready for some retail therapy, head to the Central Market or the six-story Suria KLCC shopping mall. While exploring the town from top to bottom, climb the stairs to the temple in the Batu Caves, which is one of the most famous Hindu shrines outside of India, or picnic on the green lawns at Merdeka Square.
Whether you spend the day noshing on local cuisine or touring the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, 24 hours in Kuala Lumpur is sure to give you a sneak peek into “The Garden City of Lights.” Keep an eye on the time and soak up this destination before boarding your next flight.

Kuala Lumpur has been the most underrated city in South East Asia. This place blew us away. KL is lightyears ahead of the likes of Bangkok, Thailand and Vientiane, Laos. This is definitely the most livable city in South East Asia, but also happens to be a little bit more expensive. However, if you follow a few of these tips in this video regarding eating local food such as South Indian Food, Street food etc. you can save where it counts. Also, the public transportation in KL is as efficient as it gets in SE Asia, and shockingly was cheaper than that of the MRT in Bangkok.

Here's your essential Kuala Lumpur travel guide - Miss Universe Malaysia 2013 Carey Ng and host Josiah Mizukami tour you around the best places to eat, drink, shop, and play in Kuala Lumpur. What to do in Kuala Lumpur in the month of March 2015:
GETTING AROUND:
You'll never have a hard time hailing a cab in Kuala Lumpur with MYTEKSI. Just download the mobile app and get a taxi safely whenever you are. With just two taps, you're off to a day of sightseeing in the city. Kuala Lumpur has also a sophisticated network of trains and LRT which is accessible to everyone. For a faster route to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, ride a train at KL Sentral. You can even check in your flight and luggage with only a few clicks.
ATTRACTIONS:
Kick start your cultural journey at Merdeka Square which is situated in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Merdeka Square is a site where the Malayan independence was declared in the midnight of August 31, 1957. From there on, the venue has been the home of the annual Merdeka Parade.
One the Hinduism's most popular shrine of India is the Batu Caves. Be sure to check out Batu Caves during festivities but be warned by the monkeys that linger on the steps outside the caves.
Head over to Petaling Jaya for a day of nonstop jumping at Jumpstreet KL. The renovated warehouse showcases eight different trampoline attractions for guests of all ages.
EAT, SHOP, AND PARTY:
Have a taste of Malaysia street food at Jalan Alor in Bukit Bintang. Try the wide variety of grilled food available at the 'BBQ Steamboat' or what the locals refer to as 'lok lok'.
Hangout at Kuala Lumpur's nightlife district, Changkat Bukit Bintang. A place that is known as more than meets the eye. There are a plenty of little gems left to be discovered in the vibrant area (Click here for more: http://youtu.be/oFeVCeUTNQM).

The impression of Singapore was just amazing. From the moment I arrived at Changi Airport (World's Best Airport 2013) to the moments I spent in the city, Singapore lived up to it's name and the experience was simply Your (My) Singapore.

wn.com/Inside Kuala Lumpur With Carey Ng | April 2015
You're watching INSIDER TV - the insider's guide to the world's most exciting cities!
Here's your essential Kuala Lumpur travel guide - Miss Universe Malaysia 2013 Carey Ng and host Josiah Mizukami tour you around the best places to eat, drink, shop, and play in Kuala Lumpur. What to do in Kuala Lumpur in the month of April 2015:
HISTORY AND CULTURE:
One the Hinduism's most popular shrine of India is the Batu Caves. Be sure to check out Batu Caves during festivities but be warned by the monkeys that linger on the steps outside the caves.
Head over to Petaling Jaya for a day of nonstop jumping at Jumpstreet KL. The renovated warehouse showcases eight different trampoline attractions for guests of all ages.
Have a taste of Malaysia street food at Jalan Alor in Bukit Bintang. Try the wide variety of grilled food available at the 'BBQ Steamboat' or what the locals refer to as 'lok lok'.

"Nilai rampasan dianggarkan bernilai RM125,000," katanya.

You're watching INSIDER TV - the insider's guide to the world's most exciting cities!
Here's your essential Kuala Lumpur travel guide - Miss Universe Malaysia 2013 Carey Ng tours you around the best places to eat, drink, shop, and play in Kuala Lumpur. What to do in Kuala Lumpur in the month of February 2015:
Excite all your senses when you dine at Dining in the Dark. This diner in KL offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience where guests have to taste cuisines while in a room in complete darkness.
In the mood for some steaks?
For a night cap, try on the different types of whiskies when you order the sampler at The Whisky Bar.
While in Kuala Lumpur, make sure you check out:
* Petronas Towers
* Menara KL Tower
* KL Bird Park
* Bukit Bintang
* Central Market
* Bangsar Village
* The Steakhouse
* Little India
A lot happening in Kuala Lumpur in the month of February 2015 and beyond!

The movie shows how useful, fast, and convenient it is to move around on bicycle in Kuala Lumpur. In this case, a 100% electric Yike Bike, which allows me to move around without sweating in this hot & humid climate. The bike can easily 'jump' curbs for handy short-cuts along the way. And it folds for easily for quick errands in shopping malls - or for combining with public transport. The social interaction with people along the 8 km is also enjoyable.
I give my personal commentary in the captions throughout the movie.
Note, part of the route taken is along the 1st bicycle path in Kuala Lumpur launched earlier in the month by the Lord Mayor of Kuala Lumpur (Ahmad Phesal Talib). Hope for more bicycle paths in the years to come.
Enjoy the ride - which is done on one of our two company vehicles at IEN Consultants!
:-)
GREGERS
PS. The trip is from the University of Kuala Lumpur (near Kampung Baru), past Bukit Nanas, Pudu, Petaling Street (China Town), Central Market (Sentral Market or Pasar Seni), along Sungei Kelang river, through Brickfields, past KL Sentral (central train station) and onwards to Bangsar with end destination at the Syed Kechik Foundation Building at Jalan Kapas; refer to the map in the beginning of the movie.
PPS. Filmed with a GoPro Silver camera on a belt clip
PPPS. The electric consumption of the trip amounts to approx. 0.25 kWh, which costs only RM 0.09 (or USD 0.03). Moreover, the Yike Bike has no tail-pipe emissions, so it does not contribute to polluting the air in the city :-)
PPPPS. Newspaper article from when I first got the bike: http://www.thestar.com.my/story/?file=%2F2012%2F10%2F9%2Flifeliving%2F12046274&sec;=lifeliving

wn.com/Kuala Lumpur Mikrokosmos Asiens Dokumentation Von Nzz Format (2005)
