BBC Documentary - A History of Christianity Ep 5 - Protestantism The Evangelical Explosion
Diarmaid MacCulloch traces the growth of an exuberant expression of faith that has spread across the globe - Evangelical Protestantism.
Today, it is associated with conservative politics, but the whole story is distinctly more unexpected. It is easily forgotten that the evangelical explosion has been driven by a concern for social justice and the claim that one could stand in a direct emotional r

http://www.vaticancatholic.com This is a must-see new documentary. Among many other things, it explains, examines, and refutes the historic Protestant teaching on Justification (and Forensic Justification) by exposing a fatal flaw at its core. It reveals a devastating new argument and disproves the Protestant position by using the words of the Protestants themselves. It shows that the key salvation doctrine of the Protestant ‘Reformation’ is fundamentally contradictory. It thus serves to refute and expose the entire Protestant 'Reformation'. Among many other things, this documentary discusses, refutes, and exposes the views of prominent Protestants, including John MacArthur, James White, John Piper, R.C. Sproul, Michael Kruger, Steven Anderson, Charles Stanley, and numerous others. It also covers water baptism, faith alone, whether the justified can fall away, and much more. It’s essential for everyone to see this video. It’s especially relevant to anyone interested in the true teaching of the Gospel, the Bible’s teaching on salvation, apologetics, or Catholic vs. Protestant issues. This video contains many extremely interesting and revealing video clips.
(Also, since all of our new videos are available in high definition, those with a fast internet connection might want to select a higher quality setting for viewing the video: e.g. instead of 480p, you could select 720p or 1080p or even higher if you have an extremely fast connection. The ‘settings’ under the little wheel icon at the bottom right corner of the YouTube video screen provide options for the highest quality viewing of the video.)

Protestants account for nearly forty percent of Christians worldwide and more than one tenth of the total human population. Various estimates put the percentage of Protestants in relation to the total number of world's Christians at 33%, 36%, 36.7%, and 40%, while in relation to the world's population at 11.6% and 13%.
In European countries which were most profoundly influenced by the Reformation, Protestantism still remains the most practiced religion. These include the Nordic countries and the United Kingdom. In other historical Protestant strongholds such as Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Latvia, Estonia and Hungary, it remains one of the most popular religions. Although Czech Republic was the site of one of the most significant pre-reformation movements, there are only few Protestant adherents; mainly due to historical reasons like persecution of Protestants by the Catholic Habsburgs, restrictions during the Communist rule, and also the ongoing secularization. Over the last several decades, religious practice has been declining as secularization has increased. According to a 2012 study about Religiosity in the European Union in 2012 by Eurobarometer, Protestants made up 12% of the EU population. According to Pew Research Center, Protestants constituted nearly one fifth of the continent's Christian population in 2010. Clarke and Beyer estimate that Protestants constituted 15% of all Europeans in 2009, while Noll claims that less than 12% of them lived in Europe in 2010.

Protestantism Pastor Dr Arthur Schmidt (1866-1923), pastor in Bielsko-Biała (1894-1923) Many Protestants use the term pastor as a title (e.g., Pastor Smith) or as a job title (like Senior Pastor or Worship Pastor). Some Protestants contend that utilizing the appellation of pastor to refer to an ordained minister contradicts the Protestant doctrine of the priesthood of all believers by elevating a single individual above the rest of the congregation and facilitating a clergy/laity divide. United Methodists, for example, ordain to the office of deacon and elder; each of whom can use the title of pastor depending upon their job description. United Methodists also use the title of pastor for non-ordained clergy who are licensed and appointed to serve a congregation as their pastor or associate pastor, often referred to as licensed local pastors . These pastors may be lay people, seminary students, or seminary graduates in the ordination process, and cannot exercise any functions of clergy

The author, Johann Adam Möhler was professor theology at the Tübingen University where both Catholics and Protestants taught and studied. In 1832 he published Symbolism; a work that examined the doctrines of original sin, grace and free will as held by the different Christian confessions. It caused a storm of controversy in the Protestant nations of Europe. In it he turned the weapons furnished by Hegel, the “Protestant Aquinas”, against Protestantism. His method and style were supported by the use of facts, texts, and documents. By 1838 Symbolism had been translated to 8 languages and its author had died before he completed its 5th edition. In an age when the Catholic Church found itself divided into two camps, the “German” and the “Roman”, Döllinger, a former pupil of Möhler’s, when addressing a group of scholars at Munich in 1863 once famously quipped that the former were defending Catholicism with rifles while the latter were still using bows and arrows. The “Romans”, however, would succeed in silencing thier “German” brethren at the First Vatican Council and cut off a branch bearing good fruit. A rediscovery of the “German” school is long overdue and there is no better place to start than Möhler’s Symbolism. (Summary by Jeff Allen)

Rise and Fall of Protestantism
Four reasons why Catholic teaching spoils people morally:
1) Catholic church promotes its moral values in a way that arouses fanatical motives of human nature: pride, fear of guilty conscience and selfish sentiment;
2) directs the believers to repent for the symptoms of the behavioral sins, not for their cause in the bad motives of the heart;

The most devoted gladly received the message. They knew that it was from God and that it was delivered at the right time. Angels were watching with the deepest interest the result of the heavenly message, and when the churches turned from and rejected it, they in sadness consulted with Jesus. He turned His face from the churches and bade His angels faithfully watch over the precious ones who did not reject the testimony, for another light was yet to shine upon them. {EW 235.1}
The believers in this message were oppressed in the churches. For a time, those who would not receive the message were restrained by fear from acting out the sentiments of their hearts; but the passing of the time revealed their true feelings. They wished to silence the testimony which the waiting ones felt compelled to bear...Yet the anger of the churches was kindled; they were determined not to listen to evidence, and to shut the testimony out of the churches, so the others could not hear it. Those who dared not withhold from others the light which God had given them, were shut out of the churches; but Jesus was with them, and they were joyful in the light of His countenance. They were prepared to receive the message of the second angel. {EW 237.1}

2) directs the believers to repent for the symptoms of the behavioral sins, not for their cause in the bad motives of the heart;
3) pacifies the believers' guilty conscience through the system of rituals and good deeds, even when they have not repented for their sins;
4) and discourages the believers to use their own reason in order to stay unaware of the previous three misconceptions, and gives them blind faith in the church authorities, instead the reasonable review of their own experiences;
Protestantism, by authority of the Bible, stood up against those four elements and reformed mentality of protestant nations: From those reformed human hearts came out the blessings of democracy, freedom of thought and speech, moral life, respect for the human personality, the absence of authoritarianism and cult of personality, a high awareness of our own responsibilities, complete mutual trust among people, the highest level of maturity of personality, a minimum level of crime, the termination of superstition, a high labor productivity, successful marriage relationships, victory over depression and blessings of very mature reaction to stress.
But, during the nineteenth century principle "Sola Scriptura" in the Protestant world was soon replaced with the principle of "Sola Feeling" and so it experienced the same kind of apostasy previously experienced by the Catholic Church.

Wycliffe began to write and publish tracts against the friars, not, however, seeking so much to enter into dispute with them as to call the minds of the people to the teachings of the Bible and its Author. He declared that the power of pardon or of excommunication is possessed by the pope in no greater degree than by common priests, and that no man can be truly excommunicated unless he has first brought upon himself the condemnation of God. In no more effectual way could he have undertaken the overthrow of that mammoth fabric of spiritual and temporal dominion which the pope had erected and in which the souls and bodies of millions were held captive. {GC 84.2}
