Dark Souls (ダークソウル, Dāku Sōru) is an action role-playing video game developed by FromSoftware. It was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and published by Namco Bandai Games internationally. A spiritual successor to FromSoftware's Demon's Souls and the second installment of the Souls series, Dark Souls began development under the working title of Project Dark. The game was released in Japan on September 22, 2011, and in North America, Australia, and Europe the following month. On August 24, 2012, the "Prepare to Die" edition of Dark Souls was released for PC, featuring additional content previously unavailable to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users. On October 23, 2012, the additional content from the PC version was released as downloadable content for consoles under the title Artorias of the Abyss.Dark Souls takes place in the fictional kingdom of Lordran. Players assume the role of a cursed undead character who has been chosen to make a pilgrimage out of the Undead Asylum to discover the fate of the Undead.
Dark Souls II (ダークソウルII, Dāku Sōru Tsū) is an action role-playing video game developed by FromSoftware. The third game in the Souls series, Dark Souls II was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, and published by Bandai Namco Games internationally.
Dark Souls II was announced at the Spike Video Game Awards on December 7, 2012.Hidetaka Miyazaki, who served as director on the two earlier games in the series, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, acted as a supervisor, while the game was directed by Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura. Although set in the same world, there is no direct story connection between Dark Souls and Dark Souls II. The game uses dedicated multiplayer servers. Taking place in the world of Drangleic, the game features both player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) play, in addition to having some co-op components. As in the earlier games in the series, it once again features challenging gameplay, but with a more powerful graphics engine and more advanced AI system.
Asceticism (/əˈsɛtɪsɪzəm/; from the Greek: ἄσκησις áskesis, "exercise" or "training") is a lifestyle characterized by abstinence from worldly pleasures, often for the purpose of pursuing spiritual goals. Ascetics may withdraw from the world for their practices or continue to be part of their society, but typically include a frugal lifestyle, without desire for any material possessions or physical pleasures, fasting with time spent practicing religion or reflecting on spiritual matters.
Asceticism has been historically observed in many religious traditions, including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The practitioners of these religions eschewed worldly pleasures and led an abstinent lifestyle, in the pursuit of redemption or spirituality.
The adjective "ascetic" derives from the ancient Greek term askēsis, which means training or exercise. The original usage did not refer to self-denial, but to the physical training required for athletic events. Its usage later extended to rigorous practices that are used in all major religious traditions, in varying degrees to attain redemption and higher spirituality.
The soul in many religions, philosophical and mythological traditions, is the incorporeal and immortal essence of a living being. According to Abrahamic religions, only human beings have immortal souls. For example, the Catholic theologian Thomas Aquinas attributed "soul" (anima) to all organisms but argued that only human souls are immortal. Other religions (most notably Jainism and Hinduism) teach that all biological organisms have souls, while some teach that even non-biological entities (such as rivers and mountains) possess souls. This latter belief is called animism.
Greek philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle understood that the psyche (ψυχή) must have a logical faculty, the exercise of which was the most divine of human actions. At his defense trial, Socrates even summarized his teaching as nothing other than an exhortation for his fellow Athenians to excel in matters of the psyche since all bodily goods are dependent on such excellence (The Apology 30a–b).
Anima mundi is the concept of a "world soul" connecting all living organisms on the planet.
Darkness, the polar opposite to brightness, is understood to be an absence of visible light. It is also the appearance of black in a colored space.
Humans are unable to distinguish color when either light or darkness predominate. In conditions of insufficient light, perception is achromatic and ultimately, black.
The emotional response to darkness has generated metaphorical usages of the term in many cultures.
The perception of darkness differs from the mere absence of light due to the effects of after images on perception. In perceiving, the eye is active, and that part of the retina that is unstimulated produces a complementary afterimage.
In terms of physics, an object is said to be dark when it absorbs photons, causing it to appear dim compared to other objects. For example, a matte black paint does not reflect much visible light and appears dark, whereas white paint reflects much light and appears bright. For more information see color.
Light cannot be absorbed without limit. According to the principle of the conservation of Energy, energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be converted from one type to another. Consequently, most objects that absorb visible light reemit it as heat. So, although an object may appear dark, it is likely bright at a frequency that humans cannot perceive. For more information see thermodynamics.

In Kings With Straw Mats, Ira Cohen is both participant and observer to an extraordinary parade of people on pilgrimage into the heart of one of India's greatest sacred celebrations, the Kumbh Mela. With the eye of a filmmaker and the voice of a poet, Cohen introduces an array of holy men as they gather for the event, which occurs only once every 12 years. The Kumbh Mela traces its origin to a Hindu legend, which tells how four drops of the gods' holy elixir fell to earth from a "kumbh," or pitcher, during a battle with jealous demons fighting in the heavens. The celebration takes place at the point where the drops are said to have fallen to earth. The film examines the event's frenzied blend of showmanship, religious devotion, and madness. Filmed at the 1986 Hardwar Kumbh Mela, released ...

The primary purpose of this theory-focused presentation is to discuss semiotics as a theoretical perspective for analyzing visual signifiers of Shugendo (mountain asceticism). Shugendo is Japan's centuries-old, mystical tradition that combines ancient Shinto, esoteric Buddhism, and Taoism with the ancient beliefs of Animism and Shamanism. I participated in a three-day Shugendo training program funded by the Hawai'i Council for the Humanities, together with about 50 other lay-participants from all over Japan. The training takes secular trainees to three holy mountains -- Mount Haguro, Mount Gassan, and Mount Yudono -- in Yamagata, a northeastern area of Japan. I will explicate the visual signifiers of this esoteric mysticism by using the framework of semiotics to analyze photographed images...
Rap I
‘Till I fade away and my soul cross over
I’m running cross borders, to get this life in order
Always played the bench when I was born to take it farther
23 on the jersey with the dreams of being a starter
Witnessing hatred flying at me from every corner
On the brink of madness but I choose to play it smarter
Work twice as harder, with dreams of being Carter
Reach for the sky to take a sip of heaven’s water
I came in this world scoring seven days a week to get it in
I came here to win, now I finally did
From showing off ribs, no doe for the fridge
Stressing on my future kids, now I’m paying off the crib
My people stucks with me through the harshest weather
And now the sun’s out shining so we march together
‘Cuz we soldiers coming from the ground up, yup
With our bottles up, so what you what you what you know about us
Chorus I
(So whatchu know about us)
Gon’ reach for the sky
Ya know we fly high
That’s how we ride
(Whatchu know about us)
Stack the paper sky high
U know we don’t stop
(Whatchu know about us)
From the cells to the block
To the people on top
Shown’ nothin’ but love
(Whatchu know about us) aye
(Whatchu know about us) aye
Rap II
This is for my 12 hour go getters
Who strives for the better when these dark storms won’t let us
And holding the fort down, we in the zone now
Touch down, 4 seconds, 4th quarter, 4th down
You know this hard work be growing over time
Instead of all these get rich quick schemes slowing up the grind
That’s why we came up to get this cracking
It’s not about stacking, yet more of just making it happen
So starting from breakfast we on post for the grain
Born to die, tryna’ get something off the grave
Shackled up and chained, but through passion and pain
Break loose, now the truth is surpassing the game
We put our hearts to it and push hard
The old shoots down then, out comes new stars
We takes it all the way with no time to fuss
That’s what’s up, on the bubble bound to bust, so what you know about us
Chorus II
(So whatchu know about us)
Gon’ reach for the sky
Ya know we fly high
That’s how we ride
(Whatchu know about us)
Stack the paper sky high
U know we don’t stop
(Whatchu know about us)
From the cells to the block
To the people on top
Shown’ nothin’ but love
(Whatchu know about us) aye
(Whatchu know about us) aye
Bridge
Haterz in da crowd
They wanna take us down
But we up in da clouds
We flying’ high tonight
Three Sixty Five
Can’t no one stop us now
Chorus III
(So Whatchu know about us)
Gon’ reach for the sky
Ya know we fly high
That’s how we ride
(Whatchu know about us)
Stack the paper sky high
U know we don’t stop
(Whatchu know about us)
From the cells to the block
To the people on top
Shown’ nothin’ but love
(Whatchu know about us) aye
(Whatchu know about us) aye
Chorus IV
(So whatchu know about us)
Gon’ reach for the sky
Ya know we fly high
That’s how we ride
(Whatchu know about us)
Stack the paper sky high
U know we don’t stop
(Whatchu know about us)
That’s how we rollin’
Shot callin’
Poppin’ bottles all the night long
(Whatchu know about us) aye
