Stockholm
Sweden's capital, confident and self-assured, glitters with souvenirs from the day when it ruled as a superpower. From pondering gilded royal staterooms to sampling gourmet reindeer and sipping vodka in an ice bar, we experience the city's cultural highlights. Then we sail the archipelago for the prettiest island-hopping in northern Europe.

A New Stockholm To Be Built Within 6 Years
The Swedish political elite have plans to build a new city, funded entirely by Swedish taxpayers, to accommodate the massive wave of incoming immigrants. This radical plan also proposes the confiscation of summer homes and the conversion of old historical buildings and churches in order to facilitate the arrival of new immigrants. Meanwhile, Sweden's welfare system is plummeting as politicians suf

Family wraps home in greenhouse to warm up Stockholm weather
The average temperature in Stockholm in January is -3°C (27°F). For Marie Granmar and Charles Sacilotto it can be much warmer thanks to the greenhouse that blankets their home.
“For example at the end of January it can be -2°C outside and it can be 15 to 20°C upstairs,” explains Sacilotto. He was inspired to build a house-in-a-greenhouse through his relationship with architect Bengt Warne who beg

Meanwhile, Sweden's welfare system is plummeting as politicians suffer from Stockholm syndrome, trying to be a "humanitarian superpower." Native Swedes have been chosen to carry the weight of the world, sacrificing themselves on the altar of multiculturalism.

Meanwhile, Sweden's welfare system is plummeting as politicians suffer from Stockholm syndrome, trying to be a "humanitarian superpower." Native Swedes have been chosen to carry the weight of the world, sacrificing themselves on the altar of multiculturalism.

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and the largest city of Fennoscandia. Stockholm is located on Sweden's south-central east coast, where the freshwater Lake Mälaren - Sweden's third largest lake - flows out into the Baltic Sea. The central parts of the city consist of fourteen islands that are continuous with the Stockholm archipelago. The geographical city centre is situated on the water, in Riddarfjärden bay. Over 30% of the city area is made up of waterways and another 30% is made up of parks and green spaces.
The most important places to visit in Stockholm: Vasa Museum (this is Sweden's National Maritime Museum. On display is the famous Vasa ship, the only preserved 17th century ship of its kind), Stockholm Royal Palace (the official residence of the Swedish monarch. It's a former site of a 14th century fortress), Town Hall (a key landmark for the city of Sweden. More than eight million bricks were used to construct this beautiful building), Drottningholm Palace (a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This stunning architectural gem built in the 1600's is the private home of the Royal family) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Stockholm travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

He was inspired to build a house-in-a-greenhouse through his relationship with architect Bengt Warne who began designing the first Naturhus (Nature House) in 1974.
Originally Sacilotto looked for an empty lot to build an entirely new Naturhus, but he eventually settled on an old summer house on the Stockholm archipelago. Using Warne’s design, he covered the small “tea house”, plus an addition, in 4 millimeter glass. The footprint of the greenhouse is nearly double that of the home, leaving plenty of room for a wrap-around garden, and since inside the bubble it’s a Mediterranean climate, the couple now grow produce atypical for Sweden (e.g. figs, tomatoes, cucumbers).
The favorite spot is the glass-covered roof deck. Since there’s no longer need for a roof, the couple removed it and now have a large space for sunbathing, reading or playing with their sun on swings and bikes.
The greenhouse isn’t the only novel point to the Granmar-Sacilotto home. They are also completely independent from city sewage. Built by Sacilotto- an engineer by training-, the sewage system begins with a urine-separating toilet and uses centrifuges, cisterns, grow beds and garden ponds to filter the water and compost the remains.

Travel video about destination Stockholm in Sweden.
Stockholm is a city that floats on water, the 'Venice of the North' was built on 14 islands.
Gamla Stan, or 'Old Town', is the name of the city's three central islands that are linked by numerous bridges. Its ambience is that of the Middle Ages and small and mysterious alleys and beautiful buildings that date back to the 7th century characterize the life of the traders who once lived there.
The old town's most dominant building is the royal castle of Kungliga Slottet. Larger than London's Buckingham Palace, it contains 608 rooms.
The Stadshuset is one of the city's landmarks and was designed in Medieval style eith a tower that is almost 106 metres tall. The most important artists of the time were engaged in the creation of the Blue Hall in which the Noble Prize ceremony now takes place each year.
Those who appreciate museums will not be disappointed by Stockholm as it boasts more than 50! The National Museum, located on the Strömmen Canal, contains countless works of art. Due to the passion for art of various Swedish royal families and also generous public donations, the museum has a truly outstanding collection of French paintings that date back to the 18th century.
Six kilometres south of Stockholm is a cemetery that has been designated as a World Heritage Site by Unesco, the Skogskyrkogarden, the final resting place for many of Stockholm's past inhabitants and also some of its most famous, including Greta Garbo. This extraordinary complex took 30 years to build and is unique in the world.
Since 1998, this centuries-old Hanse city has also been the cultural capital of Europe. This city of the Vikings is a true architectural gem!

The Swedish capital, ‘the Northern Venice’ is a remarkably beautiful city, which is surrounded by clear water, while nature reaches into the heart of it. During the almost 800 years history of the city many beautiful buildings were constructed and a rich cultural heritage was left behind. Many events and museums await the tourists. In the Gamla Stan, the Old Town, the houses surrounding the Royal Palace were built in the 13th-18th century. The squares are surrounded by romantic palaces and gothic temples. The Nobel prizes are given away here at the City Hall, while the party afterwards is being held in the modern inner city, in the Konserthuset. Djurgarden island is famous of its Vasa Museum where one can take a look at a 17th century boat lifted out of the sea and then renovated. Not far away from there is the first open-air museum of the world, which shows us the rural Swedish architecture on 30 acres. One can take boat trips on the lakes and canals surrounding the city further to the castles of Skokloster and Gripsholm and to the old university town of Uppsala.

Stockholm - Sweden Attractions, Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation
Passes:
=========
The Stockholm Card (Stockholmskortet) offers free public transport within Stockholm, free sightseeing by boat, free admission to 80 museums and attractions, free city guided tours, free bike tours, and other special offers and benefits. You can buy the pass at tourist centres, at the City Hall and at hotels, youth hostels and kiosks throughout the city. The Stockholm Card is available for 1, 2, 3 or 5 days.
Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) offers one, three and seven-day travelcards for Greater Stockholm. These cards are available from SL Centres at several metro stations, in the lower hall at the Central Station and in the ticket halls of T-centralen station at Sergels Torg.
Kungliga Slottet (Royal Palace)
Situated in the heart of Stockholm, (also home to the endlessly wanderable Gamla Stad, or Old Town), the Royal Palace is the official residence of the monarchs of Sweden and the chief venue for official state events. With 608 rooms, it is among the largest surviving palaces in Europe. The present glorious baroque edifice is the work of Nicodemus Tessin the Younger, from a 1692 design, however, parts of the older medieval Castle of Three Crowns still survive. Attractions include the Banqueting Apartments, the Apartments of the Orders of Chivalry, the Hall of State, the Royal Treasury, Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities and the Royal Chapel. The changing of the guard at the palace is as much of a spectacle in Stockholm as it is in London.
Opening Times: Tues-Sun 1200-1500 (2-6 Jan, 1 Feb-14 May and 15 Sept-30 Dec); Daily 1000-1600 (15-31 May and 1-14 Sept); Daily 1000-1700 (1 Jun-31 Aug).
Admission Fees: Yes
Disabled Access: Yes
Unesco: No
Address: Slottsbacken, Stockholm, Sweden
Nationalmuseum
The largest art gallery in the country, the Nationalmuseum is somewhere to come and lose yourself in the country's superb collection of works from the medieval period to the 20th century. There are tens of thousands of different decorative pieces on show, but as is often the case with these kinds of galleries, the biggest draw tends to be the household-name artists, who in this case -- thanks to the likes of Rembrandt, Goya and Rubens -- are here in abundance.
Opening Times: 1100-2000 Tues &Thurs;, 1100-1700 Weds & Fri-Sun (Sep-May); 1100-2000 Tues, 1100-1700 Weds-Sun (Jun-Aug).
Admission Fees: Yes
Disabled Access: Yes
Unesco: No
Address: Södra Blasieholmshamnen, Stockholm, Sweden
Stadshuset (City Hall)
Voted by the Swedes as the country's finest building, Stockholm's City Hall was begun in 1911, according to an art nouveau design by Ragnar Östberg. It may outwardly look more like a church, but its interior has grand civic apartments, including the Golden Hall with its glass and gold mosaics, while its tower -- topped with Sweden's three-crown emblem -- gives a sweeping panorama of Stockholm. The building's Blue Hall (which is actually red) is the venue for the annual Nobel Prize banquet. Visitors need to join one of the scheduled tours to see the interior, although access to the tower is unrestricted during opening hours.
Opening Times: Daily 1000-1200 for guided tours of the interior, with extra tours in July and Aug; daily 0900-1700 (Jun-Aug), 1000-1600 (Sept) for access to the tower.
Admission Fees: Yes
Disabled Access: No
Unesco: No
Address: Hantverkargatan 1, Stockholm, Sweden
Globen (Stockholm Globe)
A vast sporting and events arena, the Stockholm Globe has the dubious but nonetheless impressive honour of being the world's largest spherical building, at 85m (279ft) high and 110m (361ft) wide. As well as hosting major sporting contests, it also houses restaurants, bars and a shopping complex. Event schedule aside, the attraction of most interest to visitors is SkyView, a glass gondola which carries passengers up the outside of the building's shell.
Opening Times: Mon-Sat 1000-1600 (summer).
Admission Fees: Yes
Disabled Access: Yes
Unesco: No
Address: Globentorget 2, Stockholm, Sweden

Welcome to Copenhagen, Denmark! This stunning place is also called “The City of Spires,” and after arriving here, you’ll see why.
A tour of Copenhagen reveals cobblestone streets, beautiful canals, and many 16th and 17th-century buildings crowned by the aforementioned spires. Don’t let the archaic exterior of these buildings fool you; they house very modern restaurants, theaters, and shops, and you can easily spend days sampling seafood and coffees at the various eateries.
One of Copenhagen’s most beloved attractions is Tivoli Gardens, a theme park that dates back to 1843. Watch a pantomime, ride one of the oldest roller coasters, or just enjoy a trip in a dragon boat. After a few hours at Tivoli Gardens, continue your Copenhagen sightseeing in the city proper. Copenhagen is like something out of a fairy tale, full of multicolored houses and boats that tie up at Copenhagen’s wharves.
Next, rent a bike. With almost 250 miles of bicycle lanes, getting around two wheels is a healthy, athletic way to get to know the city. Ride your bike to Nyhavn, a waterfront district that dates back to the 17th century. This is the spot to make friends at the local pubs, or to simply sit and watch the boats go back and forth over the waters of the Oresund. Nyhavn is also home to “The Little Mermaid,” a statue fashioned after the titular character in the Hans Christian Andersen tale. Make sure you bring your camera, as the mermaid is a popular place for a photo op.

Located on the Aker River in Norway’s south east is the beautiful city of Oslo. As well as being the country’s capital and cultural heart, Oslo is also the gateway to Norway’s natural beauty.
In recent years, the rugged dock areas that launched so many adventures have been reinvented as an entertainment hub. Fashionable cafes and restaurants sit easily here amidst centuries of history.
There is a strong naval history here. Visit the Viking Ship Museum to see a stunning display of 800 year-old long-ships and learn how they learned to navigate without compasses. At the Fram Museum, learn how the crews of early polar expeditions survived in one of the coldest and most dangerous places on earth. The nearby Kon-Tiki Museum is a tribute to an epic adventure that captivated and inspired a world, exhausted by the second world war.
One of the world’s most respected awards, the annual Nobel Peace Prize also has its home here. Visit the Noble Peace Center which showcases the achievements of pioneers in world.
Another of Oslo’s premier buildings for which Oslo is known is its Opera House, just a short stroll away. Said to resemble a glacier, it’s gentle sloping roof is a popular meeting place and a great spot to enjoy a panoramic view.
Norway is home to one of the oldest monachys in the world and the Royal Palace, right in the centre of the city is their official residence. Enjoy the beautiful palace park, especially in the summer, when the sun doesn’t set until after 11.00 pm.
No matter where you wander in Oslo, this modern city with a heroic past is full of character, flavour and adventure.

Stockholm - Sweden Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation
Sweden's capital -- a Nordic vision of waterways, parks and spire-filled skylines -- is justifiably renowned as one of the most handsome cities in Europe. Spread over no less than 14 islands and surrounded by literally thousands of smaller, rocky islets, it combines the drama and open skies of Scandinavia with the verve, dynamism and urban cool of Western Europe.
As with any destination of this scope (there are close to 850,000 residents in the inner city), the soul of the place lies in its many faces: the stucco walls of the Old Town, the contemporary pulse of the galleries, the consumerist buzz of the shopping heartlands, the deep peace of the parklands, the thumping bass of the nightlife and, increasingly, the gourmet draw of the restaurants.
Stockholm location on the shores of the Baltic Sea means seasonal variations hit hard, and many locals will tell you that the only thing to match the beauty of a summer's evening in Stockholm is the winter charm of its frozen lakes and snow-fringed skylines. Water surrounds the city, so there's a distinct lack of the urban claustrophobia that affects other capitals, while the famously cordial Swedish temperament (generally friendly, polite and laid-back in equal measure) makes travel to the city easy and enjoyable -- if not always especially cheap.
It's very much the hub of affairs in Sweden, to the point where some of those in the provinces refer to the city as the isdrottning (ice queen) as a dig at the capital's perceived sense of self-importance. This is highly unlikely to mirror the impression you'll have as a visitor, however -- it's more probable that you'll share the sentiments of Ingmar Bergman, who moved to Stockholm as a young man to study and work. "It is not a city at all," he once said. "It is ridiculous to think of it as a city. It is simply a rather large village, set in the middle of some forest and some lakes. You wonder what it thinks it is doing there."
It's certainly true that Stockholm's unique character is a major reason for its popularity among travellers and, in a continent where charismatic urban destinations come thick and fast, it says plenty that the city's cultural scene is vibrant enough to rival anywhere else in northern Europe. On top of its exhibitions, museums and concerts, meanwhile, it's also a deeply romantic setting in which to while away a long weekend -- you'd have to be hard-hearted not to fall for the mix of preserved medieval architecture, sweeping water vistas and unfailingly intense nightlife.
And the legendary national knack for design? It's apparent almost everywhere in Stockholm, from modernist high-rises and boutique fashion houses to sleek museums and baroque facades. Most importantly though, it's worth stressing just how much this is a city apart. It's the most populated urban area in Scandinavia, yet two thirds of it are still comprised of water and greenery. And if this doesn't seem probable, well, you've got the ideal excuse to go and check.

Unusually clean, fresh air, dense, dark green pine forests, sparkling lakes among seemingly endless forests, bright blue sky, wide rivers, green grass in contrast with red-painted houses with white doors and window-frames… That’s Sweden. Vast free landscapes where mass of flowers bloom in May and trees glitter in unrealistic colors in September. Among the plains, the lakes and the hills ancient cities are located: the red-bricked Malmö, the port Gothenburg, the medieval Ystad, Helsingör and Helsingborg, and the university town Uppsala which is always full of life. Stockholm, built between Lake Malaren and Baltic Sea, rivals any European capital city. Near to it, there are castles which enchant the travellers, for instance Skokloster Castle or Gripsholm Castle.
