I packed a fishtank completely full of water balls (water beads, water balz, spitballs...). Im guessing there are over 10,000 in there! Anyway, I melted a bunch of old aluminum pipes and poured them into the fishtank hoping to create a cool design. And it worked perfectly! These are really unique, no two pieces are alike. The functionality is founded on ideas I collected while searching the internet for foundry designs. WARNING: Charcoal foundries can reach temperatures in excess of 1,000ºC, which is well above the melting point of hobbyists. This project should only be attempted with adequate knowledge and training, proper protective safety gear, and in a fire resistant area with adequate ventilation. The sparks flying from the foundry can ignite fires, and the fumes from burning dross can be toxic. Use caution and common sense. Use of this video content is at your own risk. Background: For as long as I can remember, I've been intrigued by the idea of melting metal and making things with it. The problem has always been that it was out of reach or required really expensive equipment. In this project I experimented with 10 different prototypes, to develop a reusable backyard foundry that melts aluminum soda cans easily and safely. I tested different refractory recipes, different containers, different setting for blowing air, and different types of makeshift crucibles. I tried various ratios of portland cement, sand, perlite, plaster of paris, water, and even kitty litter. For containers, I experimented with clay pots, plastic buckets, no container, cinderblocks, and a galvanized steel pail. I ended up favoring the galvanized steel pail, and a mix of 50% plaster of paris, and 50% play sand, by volume, which was inspired by a video by NightHawkInLight "How to Make a Soup Can Forge" http://bit.ly/IBSoupCanForge Depending on where you get, or find, your materials the cost can range anywhere from $5-$25 per unit. With the materials I used, I was able to make 2 units for under $40 ($20 each). Even on the high end, this is probably one of the cheapest, reliable, backyard foundries that can be made. I used mine to melt soda cans, and extract the aluminum for future metal casting projects. All the soda cans came from a local recycling depot. I bought back 30 lbs from the depot to avoid having to drink gallons and gallons of soda. :) I stored the ingots in various forms, which you can see in the next video, and tried a cool technique for making a little sword by pouring liquid metal into a bucket of sand. I will leave it up to you to speculate on the weight until we can get it to some accurate scales to weigh it. Myrmecia brevinoda is one of the largest ants in Australia, with workers able to be more that 30 mm in length and the queen over 40 mm. The nest has a main tunnel near the surface from which the rest of the nest branches off. There are at least 5 separate arms in this nest which only connect near the surface. There are also a number of features in the nest which show the uses of different chambers. Cast Dimensions: 52.0 kg and 925 mm (H) x 900 mm (L) x 650 mm (W). Fabrication d'une mini fonderie pour aluminium dans une ancienne bouteille de gaz. A la base je voulais faire un chauffage électrique mais malgré une puissance de 3000w le four ne dépasse pas 400°c il y a trop de perditions. Je passe donc sur un chauffage au charbon de bois, la puissance est alors bien plus importante et permet de fondre l'aluminium. Ici je coule l'alu dans un moule a gâteau en acier acheté 5$ pour faire des petits lingots. J'essaierai de faire dans une future vidéo la fonderie de mes premières pièces. Ever wonder what would happen If you poured molten aluminum into a lava lamp? Me neither. Well, you voted, I listened! Some of my viewers on my Facebook, and G+ pages suggested that I pour molten aluminum into a Lava Lamp. That sounded awesome so I set out to buy the biggest one them make..27"! After I got it, I was sad it was going to break because I really liked it. I hope this video gets enough views so I can buy another one! I melted down about a pound or two of aluminum and poured it into a lava lamp. I had 4 cameras to capture the carnage, but only two turned out worthwhile. Aluminum melts at 1,221°F (660.3°C), so this stuff was HOT. I knew it would go down to the bottom and crack the glass, but I was not expecting the aluminum to cool in a neat shape. Moral of the story, pour molten metal in things. I read all my comments, but sometimes I miss a few!
