An edited GoPro video of our week in Saint Lucia from February of 2015. We spent time hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, boating, exploring, a helicopter ride and much more! We stayed at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian located at Gros Islet on the north end of the island.
The first excursion we did was with Joe Knows Tours, called the Land & Sea Tour. This was a lot of fun and at the same time it allowed us to take in a lot of activities in a single day. We cruised in a speedboat to the south end of the island near the Pitons where we visited the Sulphur Springs for a mud bath. Next, we swam in a waterfall and had lunch with a view of the Pitons in the background. After getting back on the boat, we went to a nearby beach/bay area for snorkeling. These tour guides are all about having fun and entertaining the guests to make sure they have a good time!
The second day trip we took was with Paradise Excursions, which led us to the top of Gros Piton, (elevation ~2,500 ft) with amazing views! John Nestor was an excellent tour guide; he was very knowledgeable and proud of the island. After spending the day with him and completing the challenging hike, he took us to one of his personal favorite restaurants in Soufrière. It was a small vegan eatery called Jah Lamb's where we had an amazing meal!
The helicopter ride when we left the resort was booked with Island Routes, through Sandals. The resort was about a 90-minute drive from the airport when we arrived, so checking out the helicopter was a must, after hearing several people talking about the great views it provided.

Saint Lucia 
i/seɪnt ˈluːʃə/ (French: Sainte-Lucie) is a sovereign island country in the eastern Caribbean Sea on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It covers a land area of 617 km2 (238.23 sq mi) and has a population of 174,000 (2010). Its capital is Castries. Two Nobel laureates, Arthur Lewis, an economist, and Derek Walcott, a poet and playwright, have come from the island. It is the nation with the second most such honorees per capita after the Faroe Islands.
One of the Windward Islands, it was named after Saint Lucy of Syracuse by the French, the first European colonizers. They signed a treaty with the native Carib people in 1660. England took control of the island from 1663 to 1667; in ensuing years, it was at war with France 14 times and rule of the island changed frequently (it was seven times each ruled by the French and British). In 1814, the British took definitive control of the island. Because it switched so often between British and French control, Saint Lucia was also known as the "Helen of the West Indies".

Founded by the French in 1650, Castries now has a population of just over 11,000. Of itself, Castries doesn't have a huge amount to offer visitors, and it's usually just a place that you'll pass through on your way to the more obvious attractions of Saint Lucia. Even though Castries doesn't have much to offer, you can usually find a fair number of tourists wandering about the place, as the cruise ships that visit Saint Lucia dock at Pointe Seraphine, in the northern part of the city. There is a tourist information office, a 15 minute walk from the town centre in the cruise ship dock at Pointe Seraphine. Free maps are available from the information desk in the La Place Carenage mall on Jeremie Street, just along from the St.Lucia Fire Service building. Do in Castries, Saint Lucia ================= 1 - wander around the lively local market on Jeremie Street. 2 - visit the viewing point over the harbour, at Morne Fortune, just below Government House. 3 - relax in Derek Walcott Square. 4 - top up your suntan on Vigie beach. Tourism in Castries, Saint Lucia ================= One of the major tourist areas in St. Lucia, Castries is a port of call for cruise ships. They dock at Pointe Seraphine, to the north of the harbour, which is also a duty-free shopping centre. A taxi service is readily available to take visitors on tours of the rest of the country or the city. A water taxi takes passengers from there to the city. The greatest concentration of hotels, resorts, and restaurants are near Castries and the island's other main towns: Gros Islet, Soufrière, and Rodney Bay. The city maintains three tourist offices and one at the airport. There are many duty-free shops, several restaurants, and other eating establishments, including Burger King, Domino's pizza, and KFC. Castries has landmarks, such as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Derek Walcott Square (renamed from Columbus Square to honor the island's Nobel Prize-winning poet, Derek Walcott), the City Library, the Government House, and Fort Charlotte, at the top of Morne Fortune (an 845-foot or 258 m hill). Beaches are a major draw for tourists, and there are several in or very near Castries. Vigie Beach, Malabar Beach, Choc Beach, and La Toc Beach are all within easy reach. -

This video is intended to show the beauty of the island nation called St. Lucia. There is a tram lift affair that takes you up and around thru the trees. If you have the chance, do it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and believe you will too. I was there for about 5 hours, that's all these cruise ships give you for the most part. The tour guide was great, as was the guide on the tram with us. She was very knowledgable about the flora and fauna inhabiting the place. So it was fun and informative all at the same time.

Saint Lucia Vacation 2015 (GoPro Video)
An edited GoPro video of our week in Saint Lucia from February of 2015. We spent time hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, boating, exploring, a helicopter ride and much more! We stayed at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian located at Gros Islet on the north end of the island. The first excursion we did was with Joe Knows Tours, called the Land & Sea Tour. This was a lot of fun and at the same time it allowed us to take in a lot of activities in a single day. We cruised in a speedboat to the south end of the island near the Pitons where we visited the Sulphur Springs for a mud bath. Next, we swam in a waterfall and had lunch with a view of the Pitons in the background. After getting back on the boat, we went to a nearby beach/bay area for snorkeling. These tour guides are all about having fun and entertaining the guests to make sure they have a good time! The second day trip we took was with Paradise Excursions, which led us to the top of Gros Piton, (elevation ~2,500 ft) with amazing views! John Nestor was an excellent tour guide; he was very knowledgeable and proud of the island. After spending the day with him and completing the challenging hike, he took us to one of his personal favorite restaurants in Soufrière. It was a small vegan eatery called Jah Lamb's where we had an amazing meal! The helicopter ride when we left the resort was booked with Island Routes, through Sandals. The resort was about a 90-minute drive from the airport when we arrived, so checking out the helicopter was a must, after hearing several people talking about the great views it provided. Founded by the French in 1650, Castries now has a population of just over 11,000. Of itself, Castries doesn't have a huge amount to offer visitors, and it's usually just a place that you'll pass through on your way to the more obvious attractions of Saint Lucia. Even though Castries doesn't have much to offer, you can usually find a fair number of tourists wandering about the place, as the cruise ships that visit Saint Lucia dock at Pointe Seraphine, in the northern part of the city. There is a tourist information office, a 15 minute walk from the town centre in the cruise ship dock at Pointe Seraphine. Free maps are available from the information desk in the La Place Carenage mall on Jeremie Street, just along from the St.Lucia Fire Service building. Do in Castries, Saint Lucia ================= 1 - wander around the lively local market on Jeremie Street. 2 - visit the viewing point over the harbour, at Morne Fortune, just below Government House. 3 - relax in Derek Walcott Square. 4 - top up your suntan on Vigie beach. Tourism in Castries, Saint Lucia ================= One of the major tourist areas in St. Lucia, Castries is a port of call for cruise ships. They dock at Pointe Seraphine, to the north of the harbour, which is also a duty-free shopping centre. A taxi service is readily available to take visitors on tours of the rest of the country or the city. A water taxi takes passengers from there to the city. The greatest concentration of hotels, resorts, and restaurants are near Castries and the island's other main towns: Gros Islet, Soufrière, and Rodney Bay. The city maintains three tourist offices and one at the airport. There are many duty-free shops, several restaurants, and other eating establishments, including Burger King, Domino's pizza, and KFC. Castries has landmarks, such as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Derek Walcott Square (renamed from Columbus Square to honor the island's Nobel Prize-winning poet, Derek Walcott), the City Library, the Government House, and Fort Charlotte, at the top of Morne Fortune (an 845-foot or 258 m hill). Beaches are a major draw for tourists, and there are several in or very near Castries. Vigie Beach, Malabar Beach, Choc Beach, and La Toc Beach are all within easy reach. -
Saint Lucia Rainforest Adventure
This video is intended to show the beauty of the island nation called St. Lucia. There is a tram lift affair that takes you up and around thru the trees. If you have the chance, do it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and believe you will too. I was there for about 5 hours, that's all these cruise ships give you for the most part. The tour guide was great, as was the guide on the tram with us. She was very knowledgable about the flora and fauna inhabiting the place. So it was fun and informative all at the same time. -

An edited GoPro video of our week in Saint Lucia from February of 2015. We spent time hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, boating, exploring, a helicopter ride and much more! We stayed at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian located at Gros Islet on the north end of the island.
The first excursion we did was with Joe Knows Tours, called the Land & Sea Tour. This was a lot of fun and at the same time it allowed us to take in a lot of activities in a single day. We cruised in a speedboat to the south end of the island near the Pitons where we visited the Sulphur Springs for a mud bath. Next, we swam in a waterfall and had lunch with a view of the Pitons in the background. After getting back on the boat, we went to a nearby beach/bay area for snorkeling. These tour guides are all about having fun and entertaining the guests to make sure they have a good time!
The second day trip we took was with Paradise Excursions, which led us to the top of Gros Piton, (elevation ~2,500 ft) with amazing views! John Nestor was an excellent tour guide; he was very knowledgeable and proud of the island. After spending the day with him and completing the challenging hike, he took us to one of his personal favorite restaurants in Soufrière. It was a small vegan eatery called Jah Lamb's where we had an amazing meal!
The helicopter ride when we left the resort was booked with Island Routes, through Sandals. The resort was about a 90-minute drive from the airport when we arrived, so checking out the helicopter was a must, after hearing several people talking about the great views it provided.

Even though Castries doesn't have much to offer, you can usually find a fair number of tourists wandering about the place, as the cruise ships that visit Saint Lucia dock at Pointe Seraphine, in the northern part of the city.
There is a tourist information office, a 15 minute walk from the town centre in the cruise ship dock at Pointe Seraphine.
Free maps are available from the information desk in the La Place Carenage mall on Jeremie Street, just along from the St.Lucia Fire Service building.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and believe you will too. I was there for about 5 hours, that's all these cruise ships give you for the most part.
The tour guide was great, as was the guide on the tram with us. She was very knowledgable about the flora and fauna inhabiting the place.
So it was fun and informative all at the same time.

St. Lucia Caribbean Vacation - Hiking the Pitons
This year we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving in St Lucia, escaping Michigan's winter weather. The highlight of our trip to St. Lucia was hiking the Pitons (Gros Piton). Our local driver said we were crazy and while that might be true the view was worth it. Luckily we had a nice breeze during our climb, it's known to get uncomfortably hot. If anyone sees our guide Elvin, please tell him that we said hi! We stayed at James Club Morgan Bay, Saint Lucia, though we've heard good things about the Sandals resorts as well. A piece of advice for those traveling to Saint Lucia, use the excursions offered by locals near your beach vs buying them through the resort. Here is a helpful guide of thing to do in St. Lucia. I know it is the season to go traveling and some of us are still trying to figure out where we would like to go. So I decided to make a video on St. Lucia, a island that is close to my heart and I like to call my second home. There so much to do and see on this island that will leave you in hopes to come back to the island of happiness and memorable memories.

This year we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving in St Lucia, escaping Michigan's winter weather. The highlight of our trip to St. Lucia was hiking the Pitons (Gros Piton). Our local driver said we were crazy and while that might be true the view was worth it. Luckily we had a nice breeze during our climb, it's known to get uncomfortably hot. If anyone sees our guide Elvin, please tell him that we said hi!
We stayed at James Club Morgan Bay, Saint Lucia, though we've heard good things about the Sandals resorts as well. A piece of advice for those traveling to Saint Lucia, use the excursions offered by locals near your beach vs buying them through the resort. Ask around, it's likely other guests already gave them a try. Please feel free to share the details about your St. Lucia vacation in the comments.

The natural ecosystem consist of swamps, lake systems, beaches, coral reefs, wetlands, woodlands and coastal forests. Lake St. Lucia is the largest Estuarine system in the world. These ecosystems provide a natural habitat for an astounding diversity of species, from the country's largest population of hippos and crocodiles to giant leatherback turtles, black rhino, leopards, and a vast array of bird and marine life. Santa Lucia Guesthouse is situated in the small village of St Lucia, gateway to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, declared South Africa's first World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. The Santa Lucia Guesthouse is an intimate, friendly home located two roads from the main street, shops and restaurants of St Lucia. It is privately owned and the hosts serve their guests breakfast in the morning themselves. Their breakfasts cater to all palates from continental breakfasts with a selection of breads, muffins and a variety of preserves, cheeses and cold meats, to a sumptuous English breakfast. A variety of cereals, muesli, fresh and plain yogurts are also available. The guests absolute favourite is the exotic selection of seasonal tropical fruit or delicious fresh fruit salad. For those not wanting tea or coffee, fruit juice is also available. Guests can enjoy their breakfasts indoors or, weather permitting, out on the terrace overlooking the sub tropical garden, before heading off to enjoy the sites and various excursion available.

The Lake St Lucia area was declared a Nature Reserve in 1897. The reserve included the Lake and some of the surrounding land. The original reserve of 37,000 Ha is considered the oldest permanently declared reserve in Africa. In 2007 the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park was renamed to iSimangaliso (meaning "Miracle, or Marvel") Wetland Park. The park's uniqueness lies in its remarkable diversity. It is South Africa's third-largest park, spanning 280 kilometres of coastline, from the Mozambican border in the north to Cape St Lucia, south of the St Lucia estuary. The natural ecosystem consist of swamps, lake systems, beaches, coral reefs, wetlands, woodlands and coastal forests. Lake St. Lucia is the largest Estuarine system in the world. These ecosystems provide a natural habitat for an astounding diversity of species, from the country's largest population of hippos and crocodiles to giant leatherback turtles, black rhino, leopards, and a vast array of bird and marine life. St Lucia supports more species of animal than the better-known and much larger Kruger National Park and Okavango Delta.
