After six years of multiple recessions, the Ukrainian economy is expected to return to the growth in 2016 and can even beat an IMF prognosis, Timothy Ash, analyst with Nomura International in London tells Hromadske.
“Ukraine's government and the IMF suggest 2% GDP growth. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more than that in a short term,” he says, adding that the long-term growth still depends on further structural reforms.
Ash is convinced that the Ukrainian economy can sustain further growth even without Russian-annexed and rebel-occupied territories: “I think that the rest of the Ukrainian economy can still get by without that”.
Nevertheless, Ash warns the Ukrainian government of the danger to keep delaying crucial reforms: “I think that Ukraine has a lot of opportunities, Ukraine's time for change is now”. He thinks that the country’s oligarchy is the main obstacle in a way of reforms: “I think the difference in Ukraine is the dominance of big business oligarchs in politics. It's very unusual and I don't think it's healthy. One of the big reforms that should have happened directly after the Maidan was the separation of big business of a direct political control”.
Hromadske spoke to Timothy Ash of Nomura International in November, 2015.

Ukraine is ready to introduce a moratorium on debt payment. This became known as a result of the official visit of Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Finance Minister Natalia Yaresko to the United States. The head of the finance department of Ukraine had a meeting with IMF Director Christine Lagarde. According to the Ukrainian official, the bailout program of the IMF was in jeopardy. Because of the protracted conflict in the Donbas and the lack of understanding between Ukraine and the IMF, 40 billion dollars could hardly be justifiable. Kiev hopes not to make any payments at least until the end of the summer.
Konstantin Ordov, Head of the Department of Financial Management at Russian Economic Institute named after Plekhanov
"Ukraine is losing its sovereignty entirely. This is just another confirmation of Ukraine's economic failure. The country is standing on the verge of another wave of economic problems. A positive development is nowhere near. From Russia's perspective, Ukraine is still a relatively large trade partner. The presence of problems in Ukraine is a source of uncertainty in Russia's development. As for the money, the return of three billion dollars was included in the budget. Most likely, this will be a direct loss for Russia."
Kiev hopes to receive a new tranche from the IMF in July - 1.7 billion dollars regardless of the outcome of negotiations.

The World Bank predicts that Ukraine's economy in 2016 will grow by 1%. That comes after a contraction of 12% in 2015 and record-breaking inflation of more than 40%. In 2017, the country is predicted to see growth of 2%.
Those figures come as part of a new World Bank report released this week, according to BBC Ukraine. Ukraine's economy nosedived sharply in 2015 amid the on-going conflict with Russian-backed militants in the east of the country. The fighting has disrupted much of the heavy industry which accounted for a significant chunk of Ukraine's economic output.
In contrast, Russia's economy is predicted to shrink in 2016 by 0.6% percent. That comes against the backdrop of the fall in the price of the country's main export - oil - and Western sanctions over Moscow's aggression in Ukraine.

RECORDED: June 17-th 2014, Kiev, Ukraine, by Entomologist in Ukraine.
Ukraine, Kiev 2014: The story about urgently needed economic reforms in Ukraine and the presence of unique monument of a Golden (or colored?) cattle. The Cattle is staying here as a Symbol (amulet, talisman) of Gennadiy Balashov 5.10 party of economic reforms which is proposing a new Taxation System in Ukraine.
RECORDED: June-12-th 2014, Kiev, Ukraine, recorded by Entomologist in Ukraine.
Ukraine, Kiev 2014: Story about the Office 5.10 and two symbols of unique Ukrainian businessman Gennadiy Balashov - the numbers 5.10 and the Golden Cattle.
This Office and Red monument of 5.10 is located in the center of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
What does the cow mean?
The cattle / cow is a symbol of prosperity of Ukraine and Ukrainian people and talisman of 5/10 party.
Only Ukrainians themseves at their Ukrainian land will be able to get enough milk from an Ukrainian cattle!
How could they get it?
But... how Ukrainians would become rich during the period of only one generation?
How would it be really possible to make Ukrainians rich?
What the Red Symbol of numbers 5.10 means?
Why is it 5.10 ?
Actually, Gennadiy Balashov proposes to introduce new taxation's laws in Ukraine and to reduce taxation system in Ukraine: to introduce the system of 5.10.
The system 5.10 means the cancellation of OLD taxation's system in Ukraine and the introduction of a NEW system of 5% of sale's tax, and only 10% of income tax (=the tax from salary or official income).
All other taxes, including VAT, must be cancelled.
Actually, now, in 2014, officially the salary or income tax in Ukraine is = from 10% - to 17%.
Gennadiy Balashov considers that only this taxation system of 5/10 and reduction of present taxation will provide enormous amount of foreign investments in the economy of Ukraine.
Gennadiy Balashov claims that only peculators or dull persons cannot understand this proposed very simple taxation system.
Gennadiy Balashov considers that only a very developed system of paculators, or state Treasury embezzlers, is a real reason of embezzlement and corruption in Ukraine.
The corrupted economical system leads to the destruction of the state's economy and economic state of all citizens of Ukraine.
How to stop it? Proposal is simple: introduce 5/10 tax system in the economy of UKRAINE!
