The largest build-up of naval forces in the Gulf of Aden to study the Vortex - Wormhole "... Aden (/ˈɑːdɛn/ AH-den; Arabic: عدن ʻAdan) is a seaport city in South Yemen, located by the eastern approach to the Red Sea (the Gulf of Aden), some 170 kilometres east of Bab-el-Mandeb. Its population is approximately a million people. Aden's ancient, natural harbour lies in the crater of a dormant volcano which now forms a peninsula, joined to the mainland by a low isthmus. This harbour, Front Bay, was first used by the ancient Kingdom of Awsan between the 5th and 7th centuries BCE. The modern harbour is on the other side of the peninsula.
Aden consists of a number of distinct sub-centers: Crater, the original port city; Ma'alla, the modern port; Tawahi, known as "Steamer Point" in the colonial period; and the resorts of Gold Mohur. Khormaksar, located on the isthmus that connects Aden proper with the mainland, includes the city's diplomatic missions, the main offices of Aden University, and Aden International Airport (the former British Royal Air Force station RAF Khormaksar), Yemen's second biggest airport. On the mainland are the sub-centres of Sheikh Othman, a former oasis area; Al-Mansura, a town planned by the British; and Madinat ash-Sha'b (formerly Madinat al-Itihad), the site designated as the capital of the South Arabian Federation and now home to a large power/desalinization facility and additional faculties of Aden University.

The Gulf of Aden (Arabic: خليج عدن Ḫalīǧ ʻAdan, Somali: Gacanka Cadmeed) is a gulf located in the Arabian Sea between Yemen, on the south coast of the Arabian Peninsula, and Somalia in the Horn of Africa. In the northwest, it connects with the Red Sea through the Bab-el-Mandeb strait, which is about 20 miles wide.
The waterway is part of the important Suez canal shipping route between the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian Sea in the Indian Ocean with 21,000 ships crossing the gulf annually. The gulf is known by the nickname "Pirate Alley" due to the large amount of pirate activity in the area.
The International Hydrographic Organization defines the limits of the Gulf of Aden as follows:
On the Northwest. The Southern limit of the Red Sea [A line joining Husn Murad (12°40′N 43°30′E / 12.667°N 43.5°E / 12.667; 43.5) and Ras Siyan (12°29′N 43°20′E / 12.483°N 43.333°E / 12.483; 43.333)].
On the East. The meridian of Cape Guardafui (Ras Asir, 51°16'E).
The temperature of the Gulf of Aden varies between 15 °C (59 °F) and 28 °C (82 °F), depending on the season and the appearance of monsoons. The salinity of the gulf at 10 metres (33 ft) depth varies from 35.3 ‰ along the eastern Somali coast to as high as 37.3 ‰ in the gulf's center, while the oxygen content in the Gulf of Aden at the same depth is typically between 4.0 and 5.0 mg/L.

Private Anti-piracy Navies, How Warships For Hire Are Changing Maritime Security.
Since the introduction in 2009 of the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (ITRC) for all ships passing thorough the Gulf of Aden, cruise passengers can feel much more secure against the threat of Somali piracy.
Before entering the Gulf of Aden a safety drill was conducted. For the passage ships are joining a convoy of three or four other vessels at an allotted time and location. During the passage armed naval escort ship are shadowing the convoy.
The Captain was logging into the control system every four hours to give position.
Before and during the passage Informative briefings for the passengers by the captain from the bridge by loudspeakers and internal TV on effective measures in place for the safety of the ship. Lookouts were in place at the top deck to look for potential pirate boat, and Brilliance of the Seas was closely followed by the patrol boat AL345 from PVI, Protection Vessels International Ltd during the entire passage of the Gulf.
Some decks were closed during the passage while sun- and pool-decks were closed from sunset to sunrise - During night no cabin- or outside deck lights for three nights. - This last one means no late-night dancing under the stars for a couple of nights, but inside, it's fun as usual.

Private Anti-piracy Navies, How Warships For Hire Are Changing Maritime Security.
Since the introduction in 2009 of the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (ITRC) for all ships passing thorough the Gulf of Aden, cruise passengers can feel much more secure against the threat of Somali piracy.
Before entering the Gulf of Aden a safety drill was conducted. For the passage ships are joining a convoy of three or four other vessels at an allotted time and location. During the passage armed naval escort ship are shadowing the convoy.
The Captain was logging into the control system every four hours to give position.
Before and during the passage Informative briefings for the passengers by the captain from the bridge by loudspeakers and internal TV on effective measures in place for the safety of the ship. Lookouts were in place at the top deck to look for potential pirate boat, and Brilliance of the Seas was closely followed by the patrol boat AL345 from PVI, Protection Vessels International Ltd during the entire passage of the Gulf.
Some decks were closed during the passage while sun- and pool-decks were closed from sunset to sunrise - During night no cabin- or outside deck lights for three nights. - This last one means no late-night dancing under the stars for a couple of nights, but inside, it's fun as usual.

Women are rarely to be seen in Yemen’s marketplaces and, when they are, they are hidden from male glances by a protective veil. Islam still plays an important role in the daily cultural life of the people, including the traditional market places that are almost exclusively a male domain. The Republic Of Yemen covers a large part of the southwest of the Arabian Peninsula and contains several fascinating historical sites. East of Sanaa on the ancient Frankincense route, is the town of Marib that was once the residence of the legendary Queen Of Saba and in the extreme north is the town of Sadah, a region known for its powerful tribes. In the centre of the Djebel Harraz is the picturesque mountain village of Manakhah. Due to its location it was once a strategic point on the ancient trading route between the sea and the highlands. The breathtaking architecture of its buildings still testifies to the former prosperity of a village that today is well known for its popular market. Al Hudaydah was once the most important Turkish harbour on the Red Sea. The city was a commercial rival of the British occupied city of Aden to the south which, during colonial times, was of great importance in securing a sea route to India. In addition to the recent modernisation of the harbour the fishing industry still plays an important role and the fertile coastal waters of the Red Sea still ensure a good catch. To the south of Al Hudaydah is the legendary old harbour of Al Mokha, the former centre of the country’s coffee trade from which the world renowned Mocha coffee derived its name. Despite their present poverty the people here are a proud race and the ancient name of the Yemen, Arabia Felix, or “Arabia The Content”, is still a thing of the present.

In addition to the recent modernisation of the harbour the fishing industry still plays an important role and the fertile coastal waters of the Red Sea still ensure a good catch. To the south of Al Hudaydah is the legendary old harbour of Al Mokha, the former centre of the country’s coffee trade from which the world renowned Mocha coffee derived its name. Despite their present poverty the people here are a proud race and the ancient name of the Yemen, Arabia Felix, or “Arabia The Content”, is still a thing of the present.
