The peak, the 7th highest mountain in the Graian Alps, with an elevation of 4,061 m, is close to Mont Blanc on the nearby border with France. In the SOIUSA the mountain belongs to an alpine subsection called "North-Eastern Graian Alps" and also gives the name to the gruppo del Gran Paradiso.
While the Mont Blanc massif straddles the border between France and Italy, the Gran Paradiso is the only mountain whose summit reaches over 4,000 meters that is entirely within Italian territory, so that it could be considered the highest peak in Italy.

Samuel Osborne Barber II (March 9, 1910 – January 23, 1981) was an American composer of orchestral, opera, choral, and piano music. He is one of the most celebrated composers of the 20th century; music critic Donal Henahan stated that "Probably no other American composer has ever enjoyed such early, such persistent and such long-lasting acclaim." His Adagio for Strings (1936) has earned a permanent place in the concert repertory of orchestras. He was twice awarded the Pulitzer Prize for music, for his opera Vanessa (1956–57) and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra (1962). Also widely performed is his Knoxville: Summer of 1915 (1947), a work for soprano and orchestra, which sets a prose text by James Agee. Unusual among contemporary composers, nearly all of his compositions have been recorded.
Barber was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, the son of Marguerite McLeod (née Beatty) and Samuel Le Roy Barber. He was born into a comfortable, educated, social, and distinguished Irish-American[citation needed] family. His father was a physician, and his mother was a pianist. His aunt, Louise Homer, was a leading contralto at the Metropolitan Opera and his uncle, Sidney Homer, was a composer of American art songs. Louise Homer is known to have influenced Barber's interest in voice. Through his aunt, Barber had access to many great singers and songs.

While the Mont Blanc massif straddles the border between France and Italy, the Gran Paradiso is the only mountain whose summit reaches over 4,000 meters that is entirely within Italian territory, so that it could be considered the highest peak in Italy.

Mont Blanc (French pronunciation: [mɔ̃.blɑ̃]) or Monte Bianco, both meaning "White Mountain", is the highest mountain in the Alps and the highest peak in Europe outside of the Caucasus range.[1] It rises 4,807 m (15,771 ft)[2] above sea level and is ranked 11th in the world in topographic prominence. [3]
The mountain lies in a range called the Graian Alps, between the regions of Aosta Valley, Italy, and Haute-Savoie, France. The location of the summit is on the watershed line between the valleys of Ferret and Veny in Italy and the valleys of Montjoie and Arve in France. The Mont Blanc massif is popular for mountaineering, hiking, skiing, and snowboarding.
The three towns and their communes which surround Mont Blanc are Courmayeur in Aosta Valley, Italy, and Saint-Gervais-les-Bains and Chamonix in Haute-Savoie, France. The latter town was the site of the first Winter Olympics. A cable car ascends and crosses the mountain range from Courmayeur to Chamonix, through the Col du Géant. Constructed beginning in 1957 and completed in 1965, the 11.6 km (7¼ mi) Mont Blanc Tunnel runs beneath the mountain between these two countries and is one of the major trans-Alpine transport routes.

Mont Blanc (French pronunciation: [mɔ̃.blɑ̃]) or Monte Bianco, both meaning "White Mountain", is the highest mountain in the Alps and the highest peak in Europe outside of the Caucasus range.[1] It rises 4,807 m (15,771 ft)[2] above sea level and is ranked 11th in the world in topographic prominence. [3]
The mountain lies in a range called the Graian Alps, between the regions of Aosta Valley, Italy, and Haute-Savoie, France. The location of the summit is on the watershed line between the valleys of Ferret and Veny in Italy and the valleys of Montjoie and Arve in France. The Mont Blanc massif is popular for mountaineering, hiking, skiing, and snowboarding.
The three towns and their communes which surround Mont Blanc are Courmayeur in Aosta Valley, Italy, and Saint-Gervais-les-Bains and Chamonix in Haute-Savoie, France. The latter town was the site of the first Winter Olympics. A cable car ascends and crosses the mountain range from Courmayeur to Chamonix, through the Col du Géant. Constructed beginning in 1957 and completed in 1965, the 11.6 km (7¼ mi) Mont Blanc Tunnel runs beneath the mountain between these two countries and is one of the major trans-Alpine transport routes.

De Titania's parelmoervlinder komt in Nederland niet voor. In een Italiaans bergdal Valnontey, in het Valle d'Aosta in de Grajische Alpen, zagen we dit prachtig vlindertje op een extreme warme dag. Het vlindertje was uitgeput en een makkelijke prooi. Een mier viel de vlinder aan.
Vlinders hebben mineralen nodig om te overleven. Daarom zie je weleens een groep vlinders bij een poeltje het vocht oplikken. Ook het zitten op je huid verklaart dit gedrag. Daarom pikten we de vlinder op de vinger. Weldra zat het zweet op te likken. Immers in onze zweet zit veel zout. Het drinken van zweet zorgt voor de nodige mineralen. In de volgende video zie je dat de Titania's parelmoervlinder weer opgeknapt is.

Butterflies need minerals to survive. That's why you see sometimes a group of butterflies in a puddle sucking the moisture. Also sitting on your skin explains this behavior. So we picked the butterfly from the ground on a finger. Immediately it started sucking the sweat. After all in our sweat is a lot of salt. Drinking sweat provides the necessary minerals. In the following video you can see that the butterfly is feeling better again.

He visited an air force base in Texas and spent time talking with the pilots to get a sense of their experiences in the air. His symphony, therefore, draws at least some of its inspiration from these accounts of soaring in the clouds.

Given the lush, lyrical, Romantic propensities of Samuel Barber's music, it should come as no surprise that the composer achieved great success in that most Romantic of genres, the solo instrumental concerto. Indeed, Barber wrote a concerto for each of the "Big Three" concerto instruments: piano, violin, and cello, producing a trio of works that have earned a secure place in the standard repertoire. With an extensive timbral palette and the opportunity for virtuosic display at his disposal, Barber made full use of the concerto's possibilities, from exquisitely colored, tender lyricism to splashy, breathless pyrotechnics.
Excepting a now-lost piano concerto the composer wrote at the age of 20, the Violin Concerto was Barber's first essay in the genre. The story of its creation and its delayed premiere was misrepresented for decades after the publication of Nathan Broder's biography of Barber in 1954. Soap tycoon Samuel Fels offered a substantial fee to Barber to write a work for the young Russian-born violinist Iso Briselli. What happened after Barber delivered the first two movements to Briselli was clarified in the early 21st century when letters from all parties were compared together. After seeing the beauty of those movements, Briselli suggested the finale might show more of the violin's virtuosic possibilities. Barber complied, producing a brief moto perpetuo of under four minutes' duration, less than half as long as either of the other movements. The violinist felt the movement simply did not fit with the other two, not that it was too difficult or unplayable as the story had been told. There were never any hard feelings between the men. Briselli relinquished his rights to premiere the work, and Fels allowed Barber to keep the portion of the commission he had already been paid. The work was successfully premiered on 7 February 1941, by Albert Spalding and the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy.
- Although the concerto's Allegro is marked by a predominantly lyrical, even vernal, quality, the movement is hardly free of the conflict and high drama typifying the concerto tradition. The flowing, organic material that opens the movement is contrasted by a short, distinctive iambic rhythmic figure that recurs in various guises throughout.
- The characteristically lyrical Andante, which, like so many of Barber's slow movements, possesses a melancholic, elegiac quality, is tinged with a certain mercurial moodiness.

Barber's Piano Concerto served as the composer's final masterpiece, and arguably the zenith of his professional life. For its composition he received his second Pulitzer Prize (1963) and, one year later, the Music Critics' Circle Award; during this period, Barber was among the most honored and respected living American composers, both at home and abroad.
The concerto was commissioned in 1959 by G. Schirmer, Inc. -- Barber's publisher for most of his career -- in honor of the company's upcoming 100th anniversary. The work was to be among the first performed at Lincoln Center's new Philharmonic Hall, which was under construction at the time; John Browning, Barber's favorite pianist at the time [also the performer in this recording], would be the soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Erich Leinsdorf.
The concerto is notable as an instance of the composer's self-borrowing; for the work's second movement, he orchestrated and elaborated upon the Elegy for Flute and Piano (1959). This movement, as well as the concerto's first, was complete by 1960, but the last movement was not completed until two weeks prior to the premiere, on 24 September 1962. Work was partly delayed by Barber's lengthy depression following the death of his sister; also, in the spring of 1962, Barber became the first American composer to attend the Congress of Soviet Composers.
As he had done in previous compositions intended for a soloist, Barber worked closely with Browning to shape the work around his style and technical skills -- apparently listening to three days worth of the pianist's repertoire in the process (similar partnerships were formed during the composition of the Cello Concerto (1945), with Raya Garbousova, and the Piano Sonata (1949), with Vladimir Horowitz).
The resulting masterwork incorporates Barber's natural affinity for flowing melody and rather traditional compositional demeanor into an imposing structure.
- Eschewing any need for an orchestral introduction, the first movement ends with a declamatory recitative for the soloist -- substantial enough to accommodate three distinct themes -- that gradually gives way to a more lyrical strain in the full orchestra. Over the course of the movement, which is roughly in sonata form, these two elements -- declamation and impassioned lyricism -- are ever more intricately entwined.
- The previously mentioned second movement is considerably calmer in mood, very much like a song; true to its origins, it features the solo flute as a main protagonist, while the piano occasionally assumes an accompanimental role.
- The finale, much more rhythmic and active, seizes obsessively on an ostinato figure in the piano that, within the movement's persistent 5/8 meter, takes on a sinuous, ambiguous quality.

Capricorn Concerto, Op. 21, is a composition for flute, oboe, trumpet and strings by Samuel Barber, completed 8 September 1944. It was premiered by the Saidenberg Little Symphony at Town Hall 8 October 1944. A typical performance lasts approximately 14 minutes.
The concerto was written when Barber was still serving in the army but at a point of time when he was granted time and freedom to compose. Hence the piece was composed in and named after the house "Capricorn" in Mt. Kisko, New York, acquired by Barber and Gian Carlo Menotti in 1943 and so-named for the maximum sunshine it got during the winter (Heyman 1992, 239). It is therefore "a nostalgic piece that expresses Barber’s desire to return to a situation where he could compose without the constant interruption of military requirements", and was the last piece Barber wrote before his discharge from military duty (Wright 2010, 23, 135). The work was composed for Daniel Saidenberg but it is not certain whether or not it was also under the aegis of the Office of War Information—the army unit to which Barber was assigned (Wright 2010, 160).
