VR’s Healthcare Revolution: Transforming Medical Training at CHLA
Recently, we partnered with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) to build a VR simulation that places medical students and staff in rare yet high-risk pediatric trauma situations where split-second decisions determine whether a patient lives or dies. Thanks to the immersive power of VR, we can replicate these training scenarios in true-to-life fashion, complete with paramedics rattling off symptoms, nurses and techs urging you to make a decision, and distraught parents praying for their child’s survival.
These visceral, interactive exercises up the stakes compared to traditional educational tools like non-VR simulations and mannequins. Powered by AiSolve and brought to life by the Hollywood VFX magic of BioflightVR, these virtual scenarios based on actual CHLA case studies let doctors a...

Each year, medical education becomes more selective and competitive. While taking care of patients, health care providers often silently battle physical and mental ailments of their own. Mackenzie Wilson, a third-year medical student, believes it is time for this toxic culture to change. In her talk, Mackenzie shares startling statistics and anecdotes about our current culture surrounding medical education. Mackenzie Wilson is a third year medical student at the Northeast Ohio Medical University. Like many young professionals, Mackenzie Wilson has grown up during immense technological and social shifts. These changes in education, business, and social expectations allow for unprecedented innovation and advancement, but harbor a seldom-acknowledged dark side. In medicine, every generation faces unique challenges, many of which are external. The largest and most dangerous challenge for this generation of physicians, however, has been created and perpetuated internally. This is a problem we are all reproducing every day, meaning that it is a problem that we, both as individuals and as a community, have the power to change. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
