Peak oil, an event based on M. King Hubbert's theory, is the point in time when the maximum rate of extraction of petroleum is reached, after which the rate of production is expected to enter terminal decline. Peak oil theory is based on the observed rise, peak, (sometimes rapid) fall, and depletion of aggregate production rate in oil fields over time. Mostly due to the development of new production techniques and the exploitation of unconventional supplies, Hubbert's original predictions for world production proved premature. Peak oil is often confused with oil depletion; peak oil is the point of maximum production, while depletion refers to a period of falling reserves and supply.

Despite plummeting oil prices and a glut in global supplies, members of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), have decided to increase oil production levels despite growing disagreement among members over the strategy.
OPEC, which provides a third of global oil, recently decided to increase its collective output to 31.5 million barrels per day, despite crude oil prices dropping to a seven-year-low, now hovering around $40 a barrel.
Made up of Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela; the oil cartel has been supplying an already over-supplied market with cheap oil - with all of its members now feeling the pinch.
But countries such as Venezuela have been the hardest hit. With 95 percent of its income from oil, Venezuela is witnessing its worst recession since the 1940s, and the economy is expected to shrink by 10 percent this year.
Venezuela wants OPEC to change its policy but influential players like Saudi Arabia are insisting on keeping production levels high, because they don't want to lose customers to non-OPEC producers like the United States.
US oil and shale gas production has been expanding in recent years, and with reduced domestic fuel demand - this could lead to less reliance on crude imports and a lifting its oil export ban.
Kim Zietlow, an economist at Humboldt University in Berlin, joins Counting the Cost to discuss OPEC's refusal to cut oil production and what this means for the future of the oil cartel.
Iran's return to the big stage
Iran is about to re-enter the world of oil markets after years of sanctions and isolation.
With the world's fourth-largest crude oil reserves and the second-largest reserves of natural gas, the Islamic Republic was pumping around 4.5 million barrels of oil a day ten years ago before international sanctions brought that right down to 2.8 million barrels.
When sanctions are lifted however, that could rise by a million barrels a day, depending on whether international companies decide to return and invest there.
Azadeh Meskarian, a solicitor with the Iran Department at Zaiwalla & Co, joins the programme to discuss Iran's return and the effects it will have on the oil market.

BEIJING — Chinese authorities have battled to get rid of gutter oil in the country's kitchens for years, cracking down on illegal oil production rings since 2011.
But now it seems the black market oil used in streetside stalls could be the same one powering up airplane engines.
Gutter oil came about as a cheap way to produce cooking oil, which is popular in Chinese cooking, according to the Washington Post.
Waste containing used oil or animal fat is first scooped up from sewers, gutters, or dumpsters and taken to processing plants. After the mixture is refined and processed, the oil is repackaged and sold to vendors and small restaurants at below market prices.
As reprocessed sewage, gutter oil contains carcinogens which may lead to cancer and other health problems. But with the disgusting oil served up in cheap street eats, unsuspecting foodies may be none the wiser.
Other countries have long used recycled oil, not for cooking but for industrial purposes, something China only caught on to in recent years.
In 2014, Boeing partnered with a Chinese aircraft company to turn gutter oil into sustainable biofuel, according to Agence France-Presse.
After a Hainan airlines flight flew from Shanghai to Beijing last March on a 50-50 mix of gutter oil and jet fuel, we might be seeing more commercial flights making use of the biofuel, according to the Telegraph.

Just two years ago, oil was selling for more than $115 a barrel. It recently dropped to just under $30 putting it at a 12 year low. There’s no consensus on what will happen next. Could this downward trend continue? Or will prices steadily increase in the months ahead? In the meantime, the impact is being felt across the globe, from Saudi Arabia to Russia, China, India, Venezuela and the United States. CCTV Correspondent Yasser Hakim reports. The Heat was joined by the following: Abdulateef Al-Mulhim, a columnist for the Saudi newspaper, Al Yaum. Keyu Jin, a professor at the London School of Economics. Carl Larry, an expert on the oil industry and a director for Frost and Sullivan, an oil and gas consulting company.

The International Energy Agency said prices are likely to come under further pressure, as it cut its outlook for growth in demand next year. And some analysts expect prices to fall to as low as $55 a barrel in the short term. In its meeting last month, the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries decided to keep its production levels unchanged. What is making the situation even worse is a boom in US shale oil production. So while consumers enjoy an extra jingle in their pockets this festive season, cash-hungry oil exporters are left with sleepless nights. But are there other reasons behind the free fall in oil prices? And who stands to gain or lose?

Perdido is the deepest floating oil rig (platform) in the world at a water depth of about 2450 meters operated by the Shell Oil Company in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Perdido is located in the Perdido fold belt which is a rich discovery of crude oil and natural gas that lies in water that is nearly 8000 feet deep. The platform's peak production will be 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. At 267 meters, the Perdido is nearly as tall as the Eiffel Tower.
An oil rig is a large structure with facilities to drill wells, to extract and process oil and natural gas, and to temporarily store product until it can be brought to shore for refining and marketing. In many cases, the platform contains facilities to house the workforce as well.

They look at negative oil prices and energy sector job cuts in the days of high leverage and low investment. In the second half Max interviews author and former investment banker Nomi Prins of the Strategic Intelligence Newsletter about the global economic depression, as central banks attempt to taper a ponzi.

The price of oil on global markets has collapsed almost 60% since June 2014, punching a big hole in the pockets of the big producers and creating thousands of job losses. The falling price of a barrel of oil has made headline news around the world as demand fails to match supply. But we've been here before - as veteran financial journalist Mickey Clark remembers.

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill (also referred to as the BP oil spill, the BP oil disaster, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and the Macondo blowout) began on 20 April 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico on the BP-operated Macondo Prospect. It claimed eleven lives and is considered the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry, an estimated 8% to 31% larger in volume than the previously largest, the Ixtoc I oil spill. Following the explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, a sea-floor oil gusher flowed for 87 days, until it was capped on 15 July 2010. The total discharge has been estimated at 4.9 million barrels (210 million US gal; 780,000 m3).

The Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred in Prince William Sound, Alaska, on March 24, 1989, when Exxon Valdez, an oil tanker bound for Long Beach, California, struck Prince William Sound's Bligh Reef at 12:04 a.m. local time and spilled 11 to 38 million US gallons (260,000 to 900,000 bbl; 42,000 to 144,000 m3) of crude oil over the next few days. It is considered to be one of the most devastating human-caused environmental disasters. The Valdez spill was the largest in US waters until the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, in terms of volume released. However, Prince William Sound's remote location, accessible only by helicopter, plane, or boat, made government and industry response efforts difficult and severely taxed existing plans for response. The region is a habitat for salmon, sea otters, seals and seabirds. The oil, originally extracted at the Prudhoe Bay oil field, eventually covered 1,300 miles (2,100 km) of coastline, and 11,000 square miles (28,000 km2) of ocean.
According to official reports, the ship was carrying approximately 55 million US gallons (210,000 m3) of oil, of which about 10.1 to 11 million US gallons (240,000 to 260,000 bbl; 38,000 to 42,000 m3) were spilled into the Prince William Sound. A figure of 11 million US gallons (260,000 bbl; 42,000 m3) was a commonly accepted estimate of the spill's volume and has been used by the State of Alaska's Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and environmental groups such as Greenpeace and the Sierra Club. Some groups, such as Defenders of Wildlife, dispute the official estimates, maintaining that the volume of the spill, which was calculated by subtracting the volume of material removed from the vessel's tanks after the spill from the volume of the original cargo, has been underreported. Alternative calculations, based on the assumption that the official reports underestimated how much seawater had been forced into the damaged tanks, placed the total at 25 to 32 million US gallons (600,000 to 760,000 bbl; 95,000 to 121,000 m3).

Cat Island was once one of the four largest bird-nesting grounds in Louisiana. But the Deepwater Horizon oil spill killed the mangroves growing there, destroying the root system that held the island's sediment in place. Since 2010, the 5.5 acre island has been washing away into the Gulf of Mexico, and migratory birds find their home disappearing before their eyes.

THE Deepwater Horizon oil spill was one of the world’s worst environmental disasters.
An oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico exploded, causing a huge oil spill that flowed for 87 days.
For weeks our screens were filled with images of sea birds coated in oil, brown waves crashing on polluted beaches, and huge boats with giant water cannons dwarfed by the endless plume of black smoke rising from the sea.
Eleven lives were lost in the accident, and countless others were turned upside down in the aftermath. Many communities on the coastlines of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Florida will never be the same.
It was America’s worst environmental disaster, one the operator barely recovered from. Five years on, those responsible for letting 4.9 million barrels of oil escape into the sea are at it again. This time, they’re a lot closer to home.
In pristine waters off the Great Australian Bight, BP is hovering over a goldmine. The potential for profit is enormous, but so too is the potential for disaster.

The Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred in Prince William Sound, Alaska, on March 24, 1989, when Exxon Valdez, an oil tanker bound for Long Beach, California, struck Prince William Sound's Bligh Reef at 12:04 a.m.[1] local time and spilled 260,000 to 750,000 barrels (41,000 to 119,000 m3) of crude oil[2][3] over the next few days. It is considered to be one of the most devastating human-caused environmental disasters.[4] The Valdez spill was the largest ever in US waters until the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, in terms of volume released.[5] However, Prince William Sound's remote location, accessible only by helicopter, plane, or boat, made government and industry response efforts difficult and severely taxed existing plans for response. Endless Oil Spills (2012): Examining the radical increase in Nigerian oil spills

It is one of the largest ecological disasters in the world. As a bitter dispute over who is at fault rages, this report takes a powerful grassroots look at 50 years of devastation in the Niger Delta.
Aerial shots show vast black islands surrounded by shimmering slicks of oil. This is what much of the Niger Delta looks like after what environmentalists say is "the equivalent of one Exxon Valdez every year". While it is revealed by secret correspondance released by Wikileaks that one minister can siphon off $20 million dollars in bribes from oil companies, local communities are reduced to eating fish meat that tastes of kerosene. This inequality has led to the rise in cases of sabotage of pipelines to get access to crude oil. It is this that the oil companies blame now for the level of pollution. But for ecologists there are no doubts that poor maintenance is far more to blame than the low level sabotage for the fact that the Delta has more than one leak every day. They say the companies consider it cheaper to lose the oil than maintain and protect the pipes. And as the world turns a blind eye, the desperation of the locals intensifies. "There's a vast contrast between what we saw in America, when President Barack Obama was on the side of the people during the Gulf of Mexico spill, and here."

The Troll A platform is a condeep offshore natural gas platform in the Troll gas field off the west coast of Norway. It is the tallest structure that has ever been moved to another position, relative to the surface of the Earth, and is among the largest and most complex engineering projects in history. The platform was a televised sensation when it was towed into the North Sea in 1996, where it is now operated by Statoil.
Troll A was built by Norwegian Contractors for Norske Shell, with base construction beginning in July 1991 at a cost of 4150 million NOK, or approximately US$650,000,000 at the time. The base and the deck were built separately, and were joined in 1995 while the base was partially submerged. The base is a Condeep gravity base structure built from reinforced concrete.
The Troll platform was towed over 200 kilometres (120 mi) from Vats, in the northern part of Rogaland, to the Troll field, 80 kilometres (50 mi) north-west of Bergen. The tow took seven days.

The world’s biggest oil platform has begun commercial production at the Sakhalin-1 offshore project in Russia’s Far East. The Berkut oil rig is expected to extract 4.5 million tons of oil annually.
The Sakhalin-1 Consortium was formed in 1996 is the first major shelf project in Russia created under terms of a Product Sharing Agreement (PSA). The international consortium is made up of the US major ExxonMobil (30 percent), Japan's Sodeco (30 percent), Russia’s Rosneft (20 percent) and India's ONGC Videsh (20 percent).
The total cost of the project is estimated to be $10-12 billion, making it the largest direct foreign investment in Russia.
The Berkut platform is expected to produce 12,000 tons of oil daily or about 4.5 million tons annually, raising the total output of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium to 27,000 tons a day.
Oil from the Arkutun-Dagi oil field will be processed at the Chaivo onshore treatment facility and then delivered by a pipeline to the DeKastri oil export terminal.
The tax revenues from oil produced by the Berkut platform will provide Russia’s regional and federal budgets with no less than $9 billion over the next ten years.

It´s a really big business giving millions of dollars in terms of revenues to some companies around the world, but at the same time it's a huge problem for the mother nature, as oil extraction requires a very dangerous impact on the earth.
Oil companies such as BG, Repsol, etc are only focused on drilling actions, hiring people every year to help them to keep the business up.
Not only oil but gas is another key natural resource which can be obtained in a similar way and it´s very followed by multinational organisations.
Take a deep look at the following documentary to understand the impact and consequences of the oil drilling industry.
I hope you enjoy it guys, don't forget to leave your comments, likes and subscription!!

Amazing action at the Gazprom oil platform where, for the first time in history, shots were fired at the Greenpeace activists. You can see the bullets entering the water just beside one of the RIBs.
Greenpeace is protesting at Shell and Gazprom oil rigs because both companies have proven to be unable to drill safely for oil in the pristine Arctic. Especially Gazprom has a very bad environmental record. We only have to wait for a spill which they cannot clean up and has the potential to destroy large parts of the "refrigirator of our planet".
Although this drilling does provide jobs (honestly paid?) it will merely benefit the rich (senior management & shareholders). Greenpeace has proven [Energy (R)evolution] that changing our current addiction to burning fossil fuels into a move for clean energy will provide more and cleaner jobs than this old (and finite) energy industry will ever be able to do.

For personnel's going offshore on an oil rig or platform.
The BOSIET course is a minimum requirement to work offshore. The course consists of four modules; Safety Induction, Helicopter Safety and Escape (HUET), Sea Survival and First Aid, Fire Fighting and Self Rescue.
Helicopter Underwater Egress Training in the United States, and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training in most other countries, (often abbreviated HUET, pronounced hue-wet, hue-way or you-way) is training provided to offshore oil and gas industry staff and military personnel who are regularly transported to and from facilities by helicopters over water. As the name implies, the purpose is to prepare them for emergency exit in the case of a crash landing over water.

2010 Patrol Project - Clearing the Oil Return Tube
When I completed the valve adjustment on the 2010 Ural Patrol, I discovered a large amount of nasty black oil in the left side valve cover. Well, that's not right. It turns out the oil return tube was blocked by the gasket for the head. When installed backwards the hole for the oil return is not in the right place and the oil return tube is effectively blocked. Esther’s story takes place during years of the Jewish exile. The Jews had been defeated by Babylon and taken as slaves. Later the Babylonians were taken over by the Persians and the Jews found themselves under the rule of the Persian Empire led by Xerxes.
King Xerxes decided to throw a 7 day party and on the last day wanted to show off his Queen who was very beautiful. But Queen Vashti refused. So the King declared Queen Vashti was no longer the Queen.
So, King Xerxes needed to find a new Queen. Among the hundreds of women sent to the palace was a girl named Esther. She was secretly a Jew raised by her uncle Mordecai. And though she was in the lowest social class the Lord was with Esther. When she came to the palace she was favored by all the staff and ultimately the King and she was made Queen.
Through prayer and fasting Esther won the favor of the King. It has been well said that prayer is not preparation for the battle -- prayer IS the battle.
This month, the Hebraic Roots Network is offering you this Queen Esther anointing oil for only $15. Let this anointing oil from the land of Jerusalem serve you as you seek the Lord on a daily basis. We pray that this oil will serve you for a time such as this …

http://www.RTI-INC.com | Shuttling your waste oil via oil caddys or buckets is tedious, inefficient and dangerous. Manage Oil to Manage Operational Costs
Getting the best return on oil investments and related fried food costs is critical to managing any foodservice business. Most organizations have some level of standard operating procedures in place to track basic oil spend and handling costs
The breakdown comes within the traditional manual oil handling process. A series of unconnected events—including oil purchase, delivery, inventory, storage, filling, filtration, disposal and recycling—typically don’t offer any strategic analysis of metrics that lead to process improvements such as oil usage over time, across multiple locations, or within set operating parameters. This leaves a gap where efficiencies are not realized and opportunities for training are missed.

http://www.RTI-INC.com | Shuttling your waste oil via oil caddys or buckets is tedious, inefficient and dangerous.
Only a turnkey solution, based on a closed-loop automated oil management system, data capture and sophisticated online reporting tools can provide organizations with access to the right information to enable incremental (or, in some cases, more substantial) oil handling improvements that boost ROI.

This allows oil to build up on the left side and return back through the push rod tubes or seep in around the valves into the combustion chamber. It is not a good thing.
Fortunately, the fix is pretty easy. I show you what I did in this video.

The demand side of peak oil over time is concerned with the total quantity of oil that the global market would choose to consume at various possible market prices and how this entire listing of quantities at various prices would evolve over time. Total global quantity demanded of world crude oil grew an average of 1.76% per year from 1994 to 2006, with a high growth of 3.4% in 2003–2004. After reaching a high of 85.6 million barrels (13,610,000 m3) per day in 2007, world consumption decreased in both 2008 and 2009 by a total of 1.8%, despite fuel costs plummeting in 2008. Despite this lull, world quantity-demanded for oil is projected to increase 21% over 2007 levels by 2030 (104 million barrels per day (16.5×106 m3/d) from 86 million barrels (13.7×106 m3)), due in large part to increases in demand from the transportation sector. According to the IEA's 2013 projections, growth in global oil demand will be significantly outpaced by growth in production capacity over the next 5 years.
The world increased its daily oil consumption from 63 million barrels (10,000,000 m3) (Mbbl) in 1980 to 85 million barrels (13,500,000 m3) in 2006.
Energy demand is distributed amongst four broad sectors: transportation, residential, commercial, and industrial. In terms of oil use, transportation is the largest sector and the one that has seen the largest growth in demand in recent decades. This growth has largely come from new demand for personal-use vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. This sector also has the highest consumption rates, accounting for approximately 68.9% of the oil used in the United States in 2006, and 55% of oil use worldwide as documented in the Hirsch report. Transportation is therefore of particular interest to those seeking to mitigate the effects of peak oil.
United States crude oil production peaked in 1970. In 2005, imports were twice as great as production.
Although demand growth is highest in the developing world, the United States is the world's largest consumer of petroleum. Between 1995 and 2005, US consumption grew from 17,700,000 barrels per day (2,810,000 m3/d) to 20,700,000 barrels per day (3,290,000 m3/d), a 3,000,000 barrels per day (480,000 m3/d) increase. China, by comparison, increased consumption from 3,400,000 barrels per day (540,000 m3/d) to 7,000,000 barrels per day (1,100,000 m3/d), an increase of 3,600,000 barrels per day (570,000 m3/d), in the same time frame. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) stated that gasoline usage in the United States may have peaked in 2007, in part because of increasing interest in and mandates for use of biofuels and energy efficiency.
As countries develop, industry and higher living standards drive up energy use, most often of oil. Thriving economies, such as China and India, are quickly becoming large oil consumers. China has seen oil consumption grow by 8% yearly since 2002, doubling from 1996 to 2006. In 2008, auto sales in China were expected to grow by as much as 15–20%, resulting in part from economic growth rates of over 10% for five years in a row.
Although swift, continued growth in China is often predicted, others predict China's export-dominated economy will not continue such growth trends because of wage and price inflation and reduced demand from the United States. India's oil imports are expected to more than triple from 2005 levels by 2020, rising to 5 million barrels per day (790×103 m3/d).

On the face of it, it looks like any state-run oil industry. Engineers, managers and traders, all help extract, refine and distribute oil, which makes its way across Syria and Iraq as well as overseas. But this is no state-run company. This is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant's (ISIL) lifeline - a business that provides the armed group with more revenue than any other source. Oil helps to fund its war in Syria and Iraq, as well as to provide electricity to the 10 million people living under ISIL control. But despite the oil trade being targeted by the US-led coalition against ISIL, the business continues to thrive. And many people are increasingly asking why. Russia has accused Turkey of buying oil from the armed group. Ankara in turn threw this allegation back at Moscow because of Russian support for Bashar al-Assad, who is also accused of buying oil from ISIL. And to complicate matters, ISIL oil is also being sold to other rebel groups in Syria, most of whom are opposed to ISIL but have no alternative sources of fuel. So who are the individuals and groups involved in refining and selling ISIL's oil? And where does that oil end up?

wn.com/Inside Story Who Is Buying Isil's Oil
Amid low oil prices and burgeoning budget deficits, Saudi Arabia annonced it was considering listing the state-owned oil giant Aramco on the Saudi stock exchange.
Aramco is the world's largest company in the oil business and the backbone of the Saudi economy.
But the oil business is not creating enough cash these days. Even with the low oil price, the numbers associated with Aramco highlight why this could be such a significant initial public offer.
Saudi Aramco has crude reserves of about 260bn barrels of oil, which is more than 15 percent of the world's proven oil reserves. If it went public, it could become the first listed company valued at $1 trillion or more, analysts estimate.
Saudi Arabia's $98 billion budget deficit is seen by many analysts as the main reason for the listing, but Saudi officials inists it is part of an attempt to diversify the economy beyond oil and have the private sector play a biger role.
So, will auctioning off a slice of Aramco give Saudi Arabia more time to weather the oil price storm? And how can the Saudi economy deal with the low oil price?
We speak to Fahad Alturki, the chief economist of Jadwa Investment, about oil, Aramco and a trillion-dollar IPO we thought would never happen.
Also on this episode of Counting the Cost: We take a look at South Africa's weakening rand and why the jittery currency is posing huge questions about the government's economic direction and putting financial pressure on everyday South Africans.
We also look at Wanda, a group that has just bought a major stake in the Hollywood studio behind Batman and Godzilla. It is owned by China's richest person, Wang Jianlin, and is fast becoming a media powerhouse. So what will be China's role in the global entertainment industry?
