Nicaragua is rapidly moving ahead with a plan to allow Chinese company HKND Group to build a huge canal connecting the country's Pacific and Atlantic coasts.
The $40 billion Nicaraguan canal project is expected to begin construction by the end of 2014 and could be completed by 2020. Beginning at the Pacific coast port of Brito, ships will cross Lake Nicaragua, before snaking through the jungle towards the country's Caribbean lowlands and the town of Bluefields on the eastern Coast.
The 286-kilometer-long canal will be more than three times the length of the Panama Canal. It needs to earn $1 billion annually to turn a profit, meaning it would have to immediately draw half of the Panama canal's current ship traffic.
The Nicaraguan canal will measure 83 meters in width, 27.6 meters in depth and is designed for 400,000-ton-class vessels whereas the Panama Canal only allows vessels with a capacity below 150,000 tons. The Nicaraguan canal will accommodate large LNG carriers and oil tankers from the US and Venezuela heading toward China. The canal is expected to generate annual revenue of at least $5.5 billion, and could capture 4.5% of global cargo shipping traffic.
The HKND Group will pay Nicaragua $10 million a year for 10 years and gradually transfer ownership to Nicaragua over a century. The project is said to be able to double Nicaragua's $10 billion GDP by 2018. The deal also allows the company to build tax-free side projects including ports on Nicaragua's Pacific and Atlantic coasts, an oil pipeline bisecting the country, two free-trade zones and a cargo railway and an international airport.
However, environmental experts argue that the canal project could cause profound ecological damage to the country.

Windmills designed to generate power for future generations.
Nicaragua needs to turn to alternative energy.
The country has successfully put an end to rolling blackouts that frequently left the country without power for hours, but the government is struggling to pay energy costs.
Oil prices have peaked at more than $147 during the last year.
Nearly 80 percent of the oil Nicaragua consumes is provided at a discount by Venezuela.
President Hugo Chavez is a close ally of the Nicaraguan leader Daniel Ortega.
Now energy-starved Nicaragua is turning to wind as it tries to reduce its dependency on oil-based power.
In 2008, the country began operating 19 windmills.
It's part of Nicaragua's efforts to reduce its dependence on oil-based energy to just 3 percent by 2013.
The 126-metre (410-feet) high windmills, installed by Suzlon Energy Ltd. of Pune, India, were set up on the edge of Lake Nicaragua.
They sit in the shadow of the twin volcanoes Concepcion and Maderas on the lake's Ometepe Island, and have become a tourist attraction of sorts.
The country has also turned to geothermal power from volcanoes, hydroelectric power generated by rivers and sugarcane based ethanol.
Those sources provide 34 percent of Nicaragua's energy.
Construction Manager, Jose Angel Prati Engineer, is behind the idea, but expresses concerns about the long term financing of the green policies.
"There is a business philosophy of renewable and green energy. But of course you also have to find a financial balance. Because you cannot keep the dream 'save the planet' if you don't have good economic support."
Energy Minister Emilio Rappaccioli says the $90 million project contributes to 6 percent of the country's total energy needs.
"Even if (oil) prices remained at current prices and even though we are producing oil, from here to about 6, 7 years, we will not be using oil to generate (energy)."
Rappaccioli says the project will save about $9 million a year in fuel costs, at current prices.
The lead developer on the operation is Arctas Capital Group LP of Houston, Texas, which says it is in advanced stages of development for another 40-megawatt installation.

A lucrative deal struck between Nicaragua and Taiwan is forging an alliance in the face of fierce Chinese opposition.
Nicaragua is fighting Taiwan's corner as the tiger economy seeks its own representation in the United Nations despite threats from mainland China.
At the same time, Taiwan continues to plough investments worth hundreds of millions of U-S dollars into Nicaragua's struggling economy.
Taiwan-run factories such as these provide succour to an ailing economy.
Nicaragua, still recovering from the ravages of civil war, needs foreign investment and job creation.
Unfortunately, the conditions for workers employed in such places have raised international concern.
But any factory job is highly prized in a country with more than 50 per cent unemployment so people are prepared to put up with the low wages and lack of job security.
Taiwan is one of the biggest investors in Nicaragua.
Nicaragua's president Alberto Aleman recently visited the most famous of tiger economies in Asia and returned with deals worth 150 (m) million U-S dollars.
The financial boost has its own price, and a politically sensitive one.
China has threatened allies backing Taiwan in its fight for recognised economic independence.
Nicaragua's government has responded with cool disregard for China's disapproval.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
"Excellent relations, being consolidated further. They support us economically and we support them in the international forum, we support their right to a place in the United Nations."
SUPER CAPTION: Alberto Aleman, President of Nicaragua
Taiwanese money is deeply rooted now in hotels, construction, and in the country's overall economic infrastructure.
The labour is cheap and export markets close to Nicaragua include that of the lucrative and stable U-S.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
"The support and, at the same time, the consolidation of the union of Central American countries - we are not going to get into individual characteristics but all five countries - and Panama, are looking at how to consolidate and fight against unemployment and poverty in our head land."
SUPER CAPTION: Alberto Aleman, President of Nicaragua
This prawn farm is just one of the ventures currently being developed.
Taiwan provides the necessary knowledge to make such operations work.
Elsewhere across the country, and around the capital Managua, construction is underway for further Taiwanese business projects.
The two countries' alliance is one with high political and economic stakes but, for the time being, one strong economy is steering a very fragile one into safer waters.

Matagalpa is located in the northern region of Nicaragua at an elevation of 2,300 ft above sea-level. It is surrounded on all sides by lush, green mountains. The year-round average temperature hovers around 80 degrees – a full 10 degrees cooler than the other main cities in Nicaragua to the south.
Although not as large as many of the bigger cities in Nicaragua, Matagalpa has the second most active economy next to the capital Managua. This is in part because of its main exports of coffee and beef. Its location in the mountains near many nature preserves and cloud forests has also contributed to a thriving economy that has grown out of eco-tourism. Because of its size location and community, Matagalpa has become the perfect home to Vaya Volunteers and its guests.

Cigar Review No.37, pt.2 - Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Gran Consul:
Joya de Nicaragua was Nicaraguas first cigar brand made for export by Nicaragua's first cigar company - Nicaraguan Cigar Co., established in 1968 by Juan Bermejo and Simon Camacho.
The company succeeded instantly. Unfortunately, Nicaragua was currently under the control of then Dictator Anastasio Somoza. Somoza made certain to take control of any industry that brought money in. A Nicaragua Cigar Co. grew successful, he smelled another opportunity. Where there's cheese, there will be rats.
Somoza gave then owners, Bermejo and Camacho an ultimatum - pay back all of the loans outstanding, taken to form the company (an impossibility within the given time-frame of 40 days) or forfeit 70% of the company to the Nicaraguan government - which was Somoza.
Somoza owned over 40% of all businesses in Nicaragua. Under his control, Nicaragua Cigar Co. did flourish because, after all, if you're going to make money, the business had to thrive. He declared Joya de Nicaragua the, "official cigar of Nicaragua," although at the time, there weren't many other Nicaraguan cigar brands around but for those by companies just building their early foundations and a few others also produced by Nicaragua Cigar, Co., like Rosalones. Somoza also managed to have Joya de Nicaragua declared, "the official cigar of the White House," after meeting with then President Nixon. Finally, he had a new factory built in order to further the growth of the company.
Many were unhappy with Somoza's stranglehold on the Nicaraguan economy and on Nicaragua in general. The Sandanistas Popular Uprising took place. in 1978, the factory, along with so many of Somoza's other properties, is burned down. The uprising is the start of what became a full-blown revolution in which some 50,000 souls are lost. On July 19th, 1979, the Sandanistas Party seizes control of Nicaragua, booting Somoza out of power. The Somoza family dynasty came to an end and Anastasio fled to Paraguay, where he was assassinated anyway, shortly thereafter - by another rebel group... Escaping your fate is not easy.
The Nicaraguan Cigar Company factory was rebuilt and still stands there today. However, with the Sandanistas in power, Nicaragua's businesses were nationalized, resulting in Nicaragua Cigar Company becoming part of the "Oscar Turcios Chivarria," state-run enterprise.
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan places a full embargo on all Nicaraguan goods in order to stifle the resources of the Sandanistas Party. For the United States, this means Nicaraguan cigars are now illegal! For Nicaraguan Cigar Company, this means they just lost their biggest customer. Civil war erupts and the Contra revolutionary movement begins. For over 6 years, Nicaragua is at war with itself.
The economy is decimated as constant battles and skirmishes are fought, many times right in the tobacco fields. All Nicaraguan based cigar companies close their doors - all but one. Nicaragua Cigar Company continues producing Joya de Nicaragua among other lines, keeping itself afloat through contracts with several European clients. Nicaragua's national cigar is now Nicaragua's only cigar; the world's only cigar.

Spanish/Nat
With crippling debts of over 8 (b) billion U-S dollars, the Nicaraguan government is struggling to recover ten months after Hurricane Mitch tore through the country.
A recent 35 percent price hike on the cost of public transport is the latest in a series of increases aimed at tackling the spiralling debt.
But with 86 percent of Nicaraguans classified as poor or living in conditions of abject poverty - according to a recent government report - most cannot afford the increase.
The raise in the cost of public transport is the latest in a series of increases the leadership of President Arnoldo Aleman has announced this year.
So far electricity, water, telephones, bread and other basic products have increased.
The new prices on Nicaragua's buses have been received wearily by a population already struggling in a country crippled by a massive foreign debt.
In a poll carried out last week 42 percent of the population thought that bus prices were already expensive.

wn.com/Nicaragua Economy Suffering Due To Hurricane
Only 13 percent thought a price increase would lead to a better service.
Now, users will pay C$1.75 cordobas (15 U-S cents) in the centre of Managua, up from C$1.40 (12 U-S cents).

Spanish/Nat
One of Nicaragua's richest men is convinced his country will recover from its legacy of poverty and corruption to become the region's most prosperous nation.
Manuel Ignacio Lacayo returned to Nicaragua after several years in exile.
While he says he has no political affiliations, he hopes the new government will create stronger measures to fight corruption and boost the economy.
Manuel Ignacio Lacayo is a busy businessman.
The engineer is the head of several companies in Nicaragua including Nissan and Coca-Cola making him one of the country's richest men.
He spent several years in exile during the Sandinista regime.
Back in his native land he says he has no political affiliations and plans to stay in the country forever.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
I have no political affiliation. I have an open mentality. I talk to the Sandinistas, I have Sandinista friends, I have liberal friends. I have friends in all parties. So, for me no matter what happens I'll stay in the country.
SUPER CAPTION: Manuel Ignacio Lacayo, Financier
While the top financier enjoys a life of wealth and prosperity most Nicaraguans live in poverty.
Nicaragua is undergoing a deep economic crisis and the democratic government of Violeta Chamorro has failed to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
Lacayo blames high-level corruption for the country's woes and calls for stronger measures against it.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
There's no magic wand. It's a long term issue. There must be stronger legal measures by which a person who is proven to have misused public or private funds, who had embezzled will get a harsh penalty and that it be enforced. Penalties here are not enforced. People here buy lawyers, they buy the judges and are set free.
SUPER CAPTION: Manuel Ignacio Lacayo, Financier
Next month Nicaraguans will elect a new president.
Former Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega is among the contenders.
Although he remains a highly controversial figure Lacayo believes Ortega has changed for good.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
I believe that the Ortega of today is one that has already mingled more with the world of businessmen and foreign investors. Before he perhaps limited himself to the Soviet Union's ideal in which the concept of free enterprise was not part of the game. He has become more sophisticated
and he also has money to defend.
SUPER CAPTION: Manuel Ignacio Lacayo, Financier
Lacayo praised Ortega's main rival Arnoldo Aleman who's heading the pre-election polls.
Opponents believe Aleman could bring back old "Somocista" ways, referring to the hardline regime of former dictator Anastasio Somoza.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
Arnoldo Aleman has been accused of somocismo and that he will bring back the people from Miami. I don't think so. Arnoldo Aleman is a very clever man and very capable and I don't think that will happen.
SUPER CAPTION: Manuel Ignacio Lacayo, Financier
Lacayo believes his country has enough potential to overcome poverty and emerge as the region's most developed nation.
Although he's worried about the organisation of the upcoming elections, he hopes voters will make the right choice and put in power the man who will lead the country to prosperity.

Nicaragua entered its fourth day of protests against the government and the economic effects were already being felt throughout the country.
Businesses have been virtually paralysed and there are food and petrol shortages in the interior.
Many fear a total social and economic chaos if the protests go on.
Government workers and anti-riot police have been clearing road blockades in Managua after three days of demonstrations against the government's economic policies.
But scattered roadblocks were still in place.
Many Nicaraguans walked to work and school Wednesday.
In the capital, public transportation has been virtually paralysed.
Some commuters -- although sympathetic -- were annoyed.

The Panamerican highway and other routes to neighbouring Central American countries were barricaded in places.
With trucks unable to pass, food prices began to rise in the capital, Managua, and markets were running low on supplies.

Taxes and prices of basic consumer goods have increased under President Arnoldo Aleman's administration.
The president, who called the protests a "total failure" on Monday, described them as "disturbing" on Wednesday.
Down at the market they couldn't agree more with him.

On Tuesday, President Aleman's government rejected a proposal from protest leaders for internationally mediated talks with the Sandinista party.
He called on the Sandinistas to end the protests but he yielded on a demand for legislation protecting land rights of small farmers.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
"I don't call that giving in but the better the law can get so that we solve once and for all the huge problem of property ownership then... I give in. I accept for the peace of Nicaragua."
SUPER CAPTION: Arnoldo Aleman, Nicaraguan President
Aleman had sent a proposal to the country's National Assembly that would give 100- thousand farmers title to the land distributed to them earlier.
But the Sandinistas claimed that high interest rates related to the land transfers would soon force most farmers from those properties.
Some political analysts think Aleman was following the right steps towards reconciliation, but that might not be enough.
SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
'I believe that the President did well by showing flexibility, but I don't think that will be enough for the other side to end the protest.'
SUPER CAPTION: Carlos Fernando Chamorro, journalist, former Sandinista and son of former president Violeta Chamorro
Aleman sent two more initiatives to the assembly Wednesday that dealt with the issues of property rights and farm debts.
On the streets, no direct confrontations between demonstrators and police have been reported so far.

TRAVEL PANAMA: Culture, Art, Nature & Resorts
Siya and I love to try all different types of travel. So, when Transat Holidays invited us to Panama to try one of their Sun Savvy Collection, we said, "yes of course." However, resort travel doesn't mean you have to stay within the perimeter of the resort. You can get out and experience the true culture of a place by taking part in day excursions. How about you? Do you ever stay at resorts? What

Culture, color, cuisine, art, dance, music — Fontbonne University celebrates international students from 22 different countries during the school's annual International Bazaar.
http://www.fontbonne.edu/admissions/international/
Video Transcript:
Today is our 4th annual International Bazaar.
We will have cultural exhibits. We'll have henna, and then we'll have a number of performers including a West African drum group, Japanese taiko group as well as a flamenco dancer from Columbia.
So, what's great about this 4th annual International Bazaar is that we have people from the community bringing in great food from their local ethnic restaurants. We have our students who are showcasing their countries. We have vendors coming in to sell us things from Nicaragua, from Peru, from Africa.
Diversity is part of our mission, and it's what we do. It's just who we are and so there are people here from various walks of life and we want to celebrate those people, no matter where they come from or who they are.

In which John Green talks about the many revolutions of Latin America in the 19th century. At the beginning of the 1800s, Latin America was firmly under the control of Spain and Portugal. The revolutionary zeal that had recently created the United States and had taken off Louis XVI's head in France arrived in South America, and a racially diverse group of people who felt more South American than European took over. John covers the soft revolution of Brazil, in which Prince Pedro boldly seized power from his father, but promised to give it back if King João ever returned to Brazil. He also covers the decidedly more violent revolutions in Mexico, Venezuela, and Argentina. Watch the video to see Simón Bolívar's dream of a United South America crushed, even as he manages to liberate a bunch of countries and get two currencies and about a thousand schools and parks named after him.

Staying in Nicaragua has been great so far. The beaches, the sunsets, the food, but the best part of traveling is almost always the people you meet at hostels, on buses and at bars.
When I walked into my hostel in San Juan Del Sur this guy was playing one of my favorite Brian Jonestown Massacre songs and I had to ask him to start from the beginning.
Enjoy.

My name is Steven, I am 29 and I am a Culture Bum. I moved to China in 2014 to be an ESL Teacher and I absolutely love it. You can transform a nation!
Imagine living in a decrepit, unsafe hovel made from waste material on top of old mining tunnels that could explode and sink any moment. Imagine having no water to drink, no safe place to raise your children, no food or clean water to give your starving baby. Imagine your children never learning to read because they have to drop out of school to support your family. Imagine living in constant fear that your “home” will one day be destroyed.
This is what it is like for the hundreds of families living in the poverty stricken high-risk zone of Santa Pancha in Malpaisillo, Leon, Nicaragua. These families live in such poverty they can barely meet their basic needs for food, have little access to safe, clean drinking water and are in desperate need of safe housing. Our goal is to build 1000 new homes costing $5,200.00 each.
King's Ransom Foundation, Dani Johnson and Food For The Poor have teamed up to bring these families out of their destitute conditions through the construction of a community center and double-unit homes with sanitation, access to potable water and sustainable chicken farms.
The Santa Pancha Village Community Development project will provide a new way of living for hundreds of residents. Each double-unit home will be equipped with two bedrooms, a living room, a personal sanitation unit and a connection for potable water.
The Community center will be built in the central part of the village for easy access by the residents and will serve as a place for educational, spiritual, cultural and social activities promoting community development.
Together we CAN transform this poverty stricken village into a safe, thriving community!

What are your thoughts? What type of traveller do you consider yourself?

Spanish/Nat
Nicaragua's health service has been partially shut down because of striking medical staff.
More than two thousand state-paid doctors have been on strike for more than a week asking for a 10-fold increase in their salary.
The government has called their demands "unrealistic" and has given doctors 48 hours to return to work or risk losing their jobs.
Public hospitals in Nicaragua came to a halt Friday as striking doctors admitted only emergency cases.
The doctors continued to care for patients already inside the facilities, and maintained partial admission at Managua's maternity and paediatric hospitals.
But at "Berta Calderon" Women's hospital, many patients were not being taken care of by staff doctors.
Some doctors however said they supported the strikers' demands but were providing care to patients.
SOUNDBITE (Spanish)
"We all agree that doctors' wages are very low. We all agree that doctors' salary should be increased. But going on strike, letting mothers and children die is not the way we are going to get it."
SUPER CAPTION: Francisco Delgado, doctor
The strike by over two thousand government-employed doctors has also shut down local health clinics across the country.
The striking doctors are asking for a 10-fold increase in their wages, a demand that the government called "unrealistic."
President Arnoldo Aleman said the government had already approved the 1998 federal budget and could not change wages until next year.
But representatives of the striking doctors said the strike would continue until the salary increases were granted.
SOUNDBITE (Spanish)
"We don't want to go on strike. We didn't want to go on strike. We wanted to negotiate, but the minister simply wouldn't sit down and negotiate. If the government is going to keep this situation going, I don't know. What I know is that whatever happens here will be the ministry's problem. The ball is on their court, not on ours. We have already stated our demands, which are clear."
SUPER CAPTION: Carlos Torres, striking doctor
Doctors at public hospitals earn an average monthly salary of one thousand cordobas (100 U-S dollars) per month --just twice the minimum wage.
The strike was illegal Friday by the government.
It has given doctors 48 hours to return to work or risk losing their jobs.
SOUNDBITE (Spanish)
"There won't be any sanctions or punishments as long as they go back to work within 48 hours, which we think is enough time to reinstate normality so that we can start negotiations."
SUPER CAPTION: Roberto Moreno, Labour vice-minister
The government has said that doctors are justified in asking for pay raises, but is blaming previous administrations for the "wages of hunger" paid to them.
Patients continue to wait outside hospitals with little sign of further negotiations.

As a completely student run effort, UC Davis' One Health presence in Nicaragua is in itself a respresentation of the inspiration the founding veterinary students had. The project is a way to break free from the traditional curriculum and carrer path and forge ahead in an exciting and emerging field. It represents an exciting way for programs to showcase student-led acheivement, the interdisciplinary collaboration between students, and that education doesn't have to stop at the classroom.

Travel video about destination Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is a fascinating country in Central America bordered by Nicaragua and Panama, a natural paradise between the Caribbean and the Pacific.Located at more than a thousand metres above sea level, San José, Costa Rica’s capital city, not only boasts an idyllic location in the heart of Central America’s coffee country, but also an enviable climate. The extent to which Costa Rica joins with European tradition can be seen in the Teatro Nacional. The coffee barons, to whom the glorious development of San José is owed, created taxes for the export of coffee beans and thus funded the construction of the magnificent building. In a fertile mountain valley at the foot of a volcano, is Turrialba, a town that radiates a serene calm but once was an important station on the route of the Jungle Train from San José to the Atlantic coast. The crater of the Poas Volcano is surrounded by the dense green of a rainforest and overlooks the north western Meseta Central. Although it is one of the country’s most active volcanoes, it is the most visited, as visitors can go by car almost to the edge of the crater. The Rain Forest Aerial Tram is Costa Rica’s most popular tourist attraction, a ride on an open gondola through the jungle. A journey of discovery amid a canopy of trees, hovering at treetop level through the solitude of nature. Fascinating nature, joie de vivre and colonial history are omnipresent on this land bridge between North and South America, Costa Rica is surely one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Costa Rica is a small country in Central America bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Caribbean Sea to the east.
See in Costa Rica
================
Wildlife - Costa Rica is world famous for having an incredibly high level of biodiversity throughout its tropical forests (this covers what you may hear referred to as rain forests, cloud forests, and dry forests). There are tropical mammals such as monkeys, sloths, tapirs, and wild cats as well as an amazing assortment of insects and other animals. There are many many birds (both migratory and resident) - more on that below. With 25% of the country being national parks and protected areas, there are still many places you can go to see the abundant wildlife and lush vegetation of the country. Just like anywhere, the farther you get off the beaten path, the more likely you are to see a wide variety of flora and fauna.
========
Bird Watching - One of the most wonderful activities for people who love nature is bird watching. You can enjoy bird watching in many areas of Costa Rica. Due to the great diversity of climates, temperatures and forest types in Costa Rica, there is a wonderful variety of birds, with over 800 species. Some helpful books available on bird watching are Birds of Costa Rica by F. Gary Stiles and Alexander Skutch (Cornell University Press) or An Illustrated Field Guide to Birds of Costa Rica, illustrated by Victor Esquivel Soto. These books can be found at certain bookstores in San José or before coming to Costa Rica. They are both heavy books; many people tear out the plates of the Stiles & Skutch book to carry into the field and leave the rest of the book in their car or room. Plastic cards with the most common birds are available for many areas and are sold at gift shops.
Volcanoes -Costa Rica is one of the most seismologicly active countries in the western hemisphere, and as a result several volcanoes have sprouted over the years- most notably volcanoes Poas, Irazu, and Arenal.
Beaches in Costa Rica
============
Costa Rica is a country with an extraordinary wealth of things to do, but regardless of your travel interests, you're going to want to spend time at one of the country's great beaches. The lion's share of beach tourism is concentrated on the Pacific side, in the Central Pacific region near San José, the Nicoya Peninsula, and in the dry tropical forests of Guanacaste. Less touristed, but no less beautiful are the beaches in the tropical rainforest of the southern Pacific coast near Corcovado National Park, or on the exotic, rastafarian, eco-tourism paradise of the Caribbean side.
Fishing
========
Costa Rica has some of the best Sport Fishing in the world and is the first country to practice catch and release fishing. The Pacific side has incredible fishing for Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Tuna, Wahoo, Roosterfish, Snapper, Grouper and more. The Caribbean side is famous for big Tarpon and big Snook. Over sixty-four world records have been caught in Costa Rica. Half day, Full day and Multi-Day Trips are available.

After feeling refreshed and rejuvenated from the beautiful beaches of El Salvador, Macca and Brianna got back to doing what they do best – backpacking around and experiencing all a country has to offer, this time in Nicaragua.
Nicaragua came with the tag as being a bit of a favourite amongst other travellers, so Macca and Brianna we’re extremely excited to see what it had to offer and whether it lived up to its reputation for themselves.
What they discovered was a country of unparalleled beauty, kind and generous people, and enough adventure activities to keep any adrenaline junkie happy.
In this episode Macca and Brianna try out volcano boarding for the first time, hike to the top of El Hoyo before swimming in a crater lake, spend a night on the tiles in San Juan del Sur, even manage to pick up a new travelling companion, before finishing off zooming around the island Omtepe.
In the end, Nicaragua truly lived up to its reputation, and it quickly became one of our favourite countries in the whole world. Next up, we went to go and see what Costa Rica had to offer.
