Blagaj is a village-town (kasaba) in the south-eastern region of the Mostar basin, in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It stands at the edge of Bišće plain and is one of the most valuable mixed urban and rural structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina, distinguished from other similar structures in its urban layout. Blagaj was most likely named for its mild weather patterns since "blaga" in Bosnian means "mild". Blagaj is situated at the spring of the Buna river and a historical tekke (tekija or Dervish monastery). The Blagaj Tekija was built around 1520, with elements of Ottoman architecture and Mediterranean style and is considered a national monument. A 360° virtual tour of the latter can be seen here.
Vrelo Bune is the source of the Buna river is a strong karstic spring. The river flows west for approximately 9 kilometres and joins the Neretva near the village Buna. The historic site of the Old Blagaj Fort (Stjepan grad), on the hill above Blagaj, was the seat of Herzegovinian nobleman, Stjepan Vukčić, and the birthplace of Bosnian queen Katarina Kosača-Kotromanić.
Vrelo Bune is the natural and architectural ensemble at the Buna river spring near Blagaj kasaba (village-town) and a part of the wider "Townscape ensemble of the town of Blagaj - Historical and Natural Heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina", southeast of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is impossible to separate the natural values from the cultural and historical heritage of Blagaj, since its distinctive quality is in the coexistence of the natural and the man-made, in the integration of the physical structure into the landscape.
The Buna river is a short river in Bosnia and Herzegovina and it is a left bank tributary of the Neretva river. Its source (Bosnian: Vrelo Bune), a strong karstic spring, emerging from hugh karstic cavern beneath a high vertical cliff. This region is specific for the diversity of its above-ground and underground hydrography. The source of the Buna river is the finest example of an underground karst river. It's one of the largest and most beautiful springs in Europe, producing approx. 30 m3/s with extremely cold and clean water.
Bosnia and Herzegovina (i/ˈbɒzniə ənd ˌhɛərtsəɡoʊˈviːnə, -ˌhɜːrt-, -ɡə-/ or /ˌhɜːrtsəˈɡɒvᵻnə/;Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian Latin script: Bosna i Hercegovina, Bosnian and Serbian Cyrillic script: Боснa и Херцеговина; pronounced [bôsna i xěrt͡seɡoʋina]), sometimes called Bosnia-Herzegovina or Bosnia & Herzegovina, abbreviated BiH or B&H, and in short often known informally as Bosnia, is a country in Southeastern Europe located on the Balkan Peninsula. Sarajevo is the capital and largest city. Bordered by Croatia to the north, west, and south; Serbia to the east; Montenegro to the southeast; and the Adriatic Sea to the south, with a coastline about 20 kilometres (12 miles) long surrounding the city of Neum. In the central and eastern interior of the country the geography is mountainous, in the northwest it is moderately hilly, and the northeast is predominantly flatland. The inland is a geographically larger region and has a moderate continental climate, bookended by hot summers and cold and snowy winters. The southern tip of the country has a Mediterranean climate and plain topography.
The Bojana or Buna (Albanian: Bunë or Buna; Montenegrin and Serbian: Бојана, Bojana) is a 41 km long river in Albania and Montenegro which flows both into the Adriatic Sea. An outflow of Lake Skadar, measured from the source of the lake's longest tributary, the Morača, the Morača-Lake Skadar- Bojana system is 183 km long.
The river used to be longer, but due to a rise in the level of Lake Skadar, the uppermost part of the river is now under the lake's surface. The river initially flows east, but after only few kilometers reaches the city of Shkodër and turns to the south. On the southern outskirts of the city, the river receives its most important tributary, the Great Drin, the greater part of which became its tributary after changing course during a flood in 1858 and now brings ten times more water than the Bojana itself (320 m³/s). After flowing around the Peak of Tarabosh, it passes through the villages of Zues, Bërdicë, Darragjat, Oblikë, Obot, Shirq, Dajç and Goricë.

Teferič je ušao i u našu dragu sevda(h)linku- »jel ti žao Banjaluke, Banjalučkih teferiča, kraj Vrbasa akšamluka…«. Throughout its history the region of Herzegovina has been the meeting point of different cultures and civilizations. Today the country has a lot of natural beauties that attract more and more tourists each year. One of the magical places that take us back to the past is Blagaj, situated only 12 km away from Mostar. The small and magical village of Blagaj is located on the river Buna. The Buna spring is one of the largest and most beautiful springs in Europe and probably the best example of underground karst river. Buna flows out from the cave beneath the cliffs of 200 meters high and independently creates a dark blue-emerald green river, which runs for about nine kilometers to the west and flows into the Neretva River near the village of Buna. The beautiful scenery and rich history had bee...
In Mostar, the site of many tragedies in the latest Balkan conflict, an ancient Sufi temple stands at a sacred point of natural beauty. The waters and this faith have defined Mostar for a thousand years, but have they helped the town heal from modern tragedies?
This video is about Tekija Blagaj Dervish monastery. Another place with Turkish influence situated at the spring of Buna river. A short distance away from Mostar.

If you drive from Dubrovnik and Metković towards Mostar, turn east in Buna and soon you will find yourself in Blagaj. Blagaj -- a haven of peace and natural harmony, is located only three kilometers from the Mostar airport. The town is located at 43o 20' latitude north and 17o49' longitude east. Due to the proximity of the Adriatic sea (around 45km) and its low level above sea, the climate is Mediterranean with very long and hot summers. The average annual temperature amounts to 17oC, the summer temperature to 26oC, and winter temperature to 8oC. In the silence of the Dervish house's garden, cooled by the freshness of the wonderful Buna, you understand why Blagaj was the focus of interest of historical personalities, Roman nobility, Ottoman viziers and kadis, Austro-Hungarian officers and...
