On Monday the 29th, Germany announces its harmonized Consumer Price Index for June at 12:00 GMT, previously at the level of 0.7 percent. If there are any unpleasant surprises during this release, the Euro could be pressured, because deflation is an unwelcome trend hanging over monetary policy makers and investors alike. The crisis over Greek debt talks is also a big factor in the Euro price, because the country is set to run out of money by the end of June without a new debt deal with its creditors. On Tuesday, the main trading event is at 09:00 in the UK, when the Treasury announces its Inflation Hearings Report at 09:00. Traders are looking for insights into inflation expectations for the UK economy, which is sensitive to consumer price trends as it struggles to recover, so there could be a knock-on effect on the GBP crosses, depending on the signals sent by the Treasury. The big trading news on Wednesday July 1st is at 14:00, when the US announces the ISM Manufacturing PMI for June. How is the important manufacturing sector doing in the world’s largest economy? This question will be answered on Wednesday, and the information could have an impact on the USD, so it’s worth attending this event. On July 2nd it’s NFP day, the most highly-anticipated trading event in the markets, which use the information to take a reading on the health of the US economy for the previous month. The new jobs number is released at 12:30 and the benchmark to beat is 280,000, which was reported in June. A better-than-expected number would be a signal for the bulls to take a run at the USD, and a worse-than-expected number would bring the bears to pressure the world’s most powerful currency. On Friday July 3rd, as mentioned earlier, it’s a holiday in the US, so attention is on Spain and the Euro at 07:30 when Markit releases the Services PMI report.
