The government has now declared Thursday a public holiday following the visit by Pope Francis who arrives in the country on Wednesday evening.
State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said in a statement the government has decided to dedicate it as a national day of prayer and reflection.
“The Government of Kenya has declared 26th November 2015 a Public Holyday and a National Day of Prayer and Reflection.
As we are privileged to be hosting His Holiness the Pope at the time, he will set the tone for the day,” Esipisu said.
Earlier, the government had said there will be no holiday but instead asked employers to give their employees time to attend events planned during the Pope’s two days visit in Kenya.
The Pope is expected to preside over an open mass at University of Nairobi grounds.
He will also lead the youth in a forum at the Kasarani Stadium in which youths in their thousands are expected to attend.
Most Kenyans have expressed their interest in attending the historical events when the country is hosting a Pope 20 years after the last visit by Pope John Paul II.

Can you trade during a public holiday? Of course, the markets are 24/5, however, you might want to look at other types of assets to trade, like indices in the EU or UK, and commodities. Remember that developments in other countries like the UK, Asia or Europe could have an effect on USD crosses. When the United States takes a public holiday, the banks and the financial sector are closed and the government does not release any new economic information, meaning that there is a lack of market data to drive USD prices up or down.
________________________________________________________________
Normally we’d be announcing the NFP news on the first Friday of the month, but in July, the release is on Thursday the 2nd, because the United States celebrates Independence Day on Friday the 3rd. The NFP is more than likely to have an impact on the USD and Gold prices, so remember to adjust your trading calendar for the new event time. Later in the clip we have a great tip about what happens in the trading markets when a big economy has a public holiday.
On Monday the 29th, Germany announces its harmonized Consumer Price Index for June at 12:00 GMT, previously at the level of 0.7 percent. If there are any unpleasant surprises during this release, the Euro could be pressured, because deflation is an unwelcome trend hanging over monetary policy makers and investors alike. The crisis over Greek debt talks is also a big factor in the Euro price, because the country is set to run out of money by the end of June without a new debt deal with its creditors.
On Tuesday, the main trading event is at 09:00 in the UK, when the Treasury announces its Inflation Hearings Report at 09:00. Traders are looking for insights into inflation expectations for the UK economy, which is sensitive to consumer price trends as it struggles to recover, so there could be a knock-on effect on the GBP crosses, depending on the signals sent by the Treasury.
The big trading news on Wednesday July 1st is at 14:00, when the US announces the ISM Manufacturing PMI for June. How is the important manufacturing sector doing in the world’s largest economy? This question will be answered on Wednesday, and the information could have an impact on the USD, so it’s worth attending this event.
On July 2nd it’s NFP day, the most highly-anticipated trading event in the markets, which use the information to take a reading on the health of the US economy for the previous month. The new jobs number is released at 12:30 and the benchmark to beat is 280,000, which was reported in June. A better-than-expected number would be a signal for the bulls to take a run at the USD, and a worse-than-expected number would bring the bears to pressure the world’s most powerful currency.
On Friday July 3rd, as mentioned earlier, it’s a holiday in the US, so attention is on Spain and the Euro at 07:30 when Markit releases the Services PMI report.

In a decision that could spark nationwide outrage, the BJP Government in Goa has dropped Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 from the list of public holidays. Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, has not been marked as a holiday in the current year's calender, released yesterday. The decision has triggered strong reactions from a section of legislators in the state. Interestingly, Gandhi Jayanti disappeared from the list of commercial and industrial holidays released on a day when the Mahatma's statue was unveiled in London. Gandhi Jayanti has been celebrated all over the country for decades, with the entire nation gratefully recalling the services of the Mahatma, who led the struggle against the British rule through non-violent means. Though the government is yet to formally clarify the rationale behind the decision, a senior official from the General Administration Department said it had the approval of government.Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was not available for comment on the issue.
Independent opposition legislator Vijay Sardesai said it was all the more surprising that dropping of the Gandhi Jayanti came just the day after the Mahatma's statue was unveiled at Parliament Square in London. "It is strange that back in the country his birthday is being dropped from the list of holidays. Is this nationalism or the BJP's sense of civility?" he said. The list which was released yesterday has retained all other holidays. Condemning the decision, Goa's lone Rajya Sabha member Shantaram Naik said BJP leaders claim they hold Gandhi in high esteem and started worshipping him in recent times, but actually denigrate him on every available opportunity. Naik alleged that in the name of 'Swachh Bharat', BJP perhaps wants to obliterate the name of Gandhi in whatever form it exists, adding that he would raise the issue in Rajya Sabha tomorrow. When Manohar Parrikar was Chief Minister of Goa, the government had sought to scrap a few public holidays, including Gandhi Jayanti, Good Friday and Old Goa Feast, but had to give up the move due to public outcry. In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Anand Narasimhan and Tanvi Shukla, panelists -- Sanjay Jha, Spokesperson, Congress; Dr Aijaz Ilmi, Political Analyst & Member, BJP; Ratan Sharda, Author & RSS Ideologue; and Prof. Mridula Mukhrjee, Professor Modern History, JNU -- discuss the issue -- in Goa, Gandhi Jayanthi is not a public holiday. Congress alleges casino lobby is behind the Govt's move.
