Wildcat formation describes a formation for the offense in gridiron football in which the ball is snapped not to the quarterback but directly to a player of another position lined up at the quarterback position (in most systems, this is a running back, but some playbooks have the wide receiver, fullback, or tight end taking the snap). The Wildcat features an unbalanced offensive line and looks to the defense like a sweep behind zone blocking. A player moves across the formation prior to the snap. However, once this player crosses the position of the running back who will receive the snap, the play develops unlike the sweep.
Defending against the Wildcat is straight forward, but the defense does not always identify that a play will use the Wildcat, and preparing to defend against it may take practice time away from other preparation. If a defense interprets the Wildcat as a regular sweep play to one side, it may reduce its defense of the weak side and make it easier for the running back to advance the ball by running to that side.
The wildcat (Felis silvestris) is a small cat native to most of Africa, Europe, and Southwest and Central Asia into India, western China, and Mongolia. Because of its wide range it is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List since 2002. However, crossbreeding of wildcat and domestic cat ( Felis silvestris catus) occurs in particular in Europe and is considered a potential threat for the preservation of the wild species.
The wildcat shows a high degree of geographic variation. Whereas the Asiatic wildcat is spotted, the African wildcat is faintly striped, has short sandy-grey fur, banded legs, red-backed ears and a tapering tail. The European wildcat is striped, has long fur and a bushy tail with a rounded tip, and is larger than a domestic cat.
Genetic, morphological and archaeological evidence suggests that African wildcats were domesticated probably 9,000–10,000 years ago in the Fertile Crescent region of the Near East, coincident with the rise of agriculture and the need to protect harvests stored in granaries from rodents. Until 2007, twenty-two subspecies were recognised. Since publication of results of a phylogeographical analysis, only five subspecific groups have been suggested, including the Chinese mountain cat.
Madden NFL 16 is an American football sports video game based on the National Football League and published by EA Sports for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Madden 16 introduced the new game mode "Draft Champions" to Madden. The game was released on August 25, 2015 and is the final game with the St. Louis Rams before their relocation to Los Angeles.
The game was announced in late July 2015 on the EA Sports website. On May 13, 2015, EA announced that, like Madden NFL 15, Madden Ultimate Team fans will be able to purchase the Madden NFL 16 Deluxe Edition, which will include the game along with $50 worth of Ultimate Team packs, for an extra $40. It was announced that EA will be working extensively on aesthetics, with new player spotlights, dynamic goals and achievements, and innovative on-the-field and off field cameras.
EA decided not to have players vote for the cover athlete through a traditional bracket, but rather through collectible cards in Madden NFL Mobile, or through Ultimate Team on the console devices. On May 4, 2015, the four finalists were announced for the 2016 game cover: New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson, New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. The two finalists were announced on May 12 as Gronkowski and Beckham Jr. On May 13, Beckham Jr. beat Gronkowski for the cover of Madden 16. Notably, Beckham Jr. is also the cover athlete for Madden NFL Mobile, as of 18 January 2016.
