Singer Avril Lavigne said she’s seeing progress in her treatment for Lyme disease, which struck her last year while she was on tour. Her treatment regimen has included multiple antibiotics and ample rest.
“I'm about halfway through my treatment,” the Canadian singer said in an interview with ABC News’ Jesse Palmer. "I'm doing a lot better. Seeing a lot of progress. ... I'm just really grateful to know that, like, I will make [a] 100 percent recovery."

Sorry for the lengthy video! I just have a lot of symptoms that I needed to go over haha Here's just a summary of my experience with Lyme disease so far, starting with the first onset of symptoms, getting diagnosed, and where I am right now with treatment. Back in October of 2015, the Hadid family supported their mother, Yolanda Hadid, and her journey battling lyme disease at the Global Lyme Alliance inaugural gala. Now, with the airing of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills episode from that night, we finally get to hear Gigi's touching speech for her mother.
Neither Yolanda nor Bella, nor the other housewives in the audience could hold back tears as Gigi introduced her mom.
"Tonight, we are honoring the person that, more than anyone I know, is hope for Lyme disease awareness, my mom," she said. "For your fight, for your passion, and for making your journey one that will help so many, I'm so proud to honor you with this award."
That evening Yolanda also announced that both Bella, 19, and Anwar, 16, were also diagnosed with the disease in 2012.
While she herself does not have it, Gigi has used her presence in the media to help increase lyme disease awareness. In addition to speaking at this event, she also donated her winnings from competing on MasterChef to the Global Lyme Disease Alliance.
She actually delivered the speech last year, but it didn't air until the March 22 episode of during this week's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, honouring her mother's struggle with Lyme disease.
The short segment is an eye-opening look into the family's dynamic as other members also suffer from the disease.
Gigi delivered her personally-penned speech through teary eyes, and extolled the difficult times her mother has gone through with the illness. But, she also credited her mother with remaining inspirational along the way.
Afterward, her mother, Yolanda, took the stage accepting an award. She thanked Gigi for exceeding all her expectations and her family for staying by her side.
"I know this hasn't been a walk in the park," Yolanda said. "I don't know if it's heart-breaking or heartwarming ... it's kind of in between."
Hear the speech and be prepared to get a little misty-eyed.

This is the story Erica Valker's story battle with Chronic Lyme Disease. Three years ago she was happy, active and seemingly healthy. Erica has now been debilitated by Lyme disease and multiple co-infections that have her fighting for her life.

Lyme disease, or Lyme borreliosis, is an emerging infectious disease caused by at least three species of bacteria belonging to the genus Borrelia.Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto is the main cause of Lyme disease in the United States, whereas Borrelia afzelii and Borrelia garinii cause most European cases. The disease is named after the town of Lyme, Connecticut, USA, where a number of cases were identified in 1975. Although Allen Steere realized that Lyme disease was a tick-borne disease in 1978, the cause of the disease remained a mystery until 1981, when B. burgdorferi was identified by Willy Burgdorfer.
Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere.[citation needed]Borrelia is transmitted to humans by the bite of infected ticks belonging to a few species of the genus Ixodes ("hard ticks"). Early symptoms may include fever, headache, fatigue, depression, and a characteristic circular skin rash called erythema migrans (EM). Left untreated, later symptoms may involve the joints, heart, and central nervous system. In most cases, the infection and its symptoms are eliminated by antibiotics, especially if the illness is treated early. Delayed or inadequate treatment can lead to the more serious symptoms, which can be disabling and difficult to treat.

Back in October of 2015, the Hadid family supported their mother, Yolanda Hadid, and her journey battling lyme disease at the Global Lyme Alliance inaugural gala. Now, with the airing of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills episode from that night, we finally get to hear Gigi's touching speech for her mother. Neither Yolanda nor Bella, nor the other housewives in the audience could hold back tears as Gigi introduced her mom. "Tonight, we are honoring the person that, more than anyone I know, is hope for Lyme disease awareness, my mom," she said. "For your fight, for your passion, and for making your journey one that will help so many, I'm so proud to honor you with this award." That evening Yolanda also announced that both Bella, 19, and Anwar, 16, were also diagnosed with the disease in 2012. While she herself does not have it, Gigi has used her presence in the media to help increase lyme disease awareness. In addition to speaking at this event, she also donated her winnings from competing on MasterChef to the Global Lyme Disease Alliance. She actually delivered the speech last year, but it didn't air until the March 22 episode of during this week's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, honouring her mother's struggle with Lyme disease. The short segment is an eye-opening look into the family's dynamic as other members also suffer from the disease. Gigi delivered her personally-penned speech through teary eyes, and extolled the difficult times her mother has gone through with the illness. But, she also credited her mother with remaining inspirational along the way. Afterward, her mother, Yolanda, took the stage accepting an award. She thanked Gigi for exceeding all her expectations and her family for staying by her side. "I know this hasn't been a walk in the park," Yolanda said. "I don't know if it's heart-breaking or heartwarming ... it's kind of in between." Hear the speech and be prepared to get a little misty-eyed. -

“I'm about halfway through my treatment,” the Canadian singer said in an interview with ABC News’ Jesse Palmer. "I'm doing a lot better. Seeing a lot of progress. ... I'm just really grateful to know that, like, I will make [a] 100 percent recovery."

Back in October of 2015, the Hadid family supported their mother, Yolanda Hadid, and her journey battling lyme disease at the Global Lyme Alliance inaugural gala. Now, with the airing of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills episode from that night, we finally get to hear Gigi's touching speech for her mother.
Neither Yolanda nor Bella, nor the other housewives in the audience could hold back tears as Gigi introduced her mom.
"Tonight, we are honoring the person that, more than anyone I know, is hope for Lyme disease awareness, my mom," she said. "For your fight, for your passion, and for making your journey one that will help so many, I'm so proud to honor you with this award."
That evening Yolanda also announced that both Bella, 19, and Anwar, 16, were also diagnosed with the disease in 2012.
While she herself does not have it, Gigi has used her presence in the media to help increase lyme disease awareness. In addition to speaking at this event, she also donated her winnings from competing on MasterChef to the Global Lyme Disease Alliance.
She actually delivered the speech last year, but it didn't air until the March 22 episode of during this week's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, honouring her mother's struggle with Lyme disease.
The short segment is an eye-opening look into the family's dynamic as other members also suffer from the disease.
Gigi delivered her personally-penned speech through teary eyes, and extolled the difficult times her mother has gone through with the illness. But, she also credited her mother with remaining inspirational along the way.
Afterward, her mother, Yolanda, took the stage accepting an award. She thanked Gigi for exceeding all her expectations and her family for staying by her side.
"I know this hasn't been a walk in the park," Yolanda said. "I don't know if it's heart-breaking or heartwarming ... it's kind of in between."

What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease—or the Great Imitator—is caused by a bacteria called Borrelia burgodorferi, which causes signs of severe damage to your skin, joints, heart and nervous system by tick bites. It's transmitted by blacklegged ticks that have been infected, which usually feed on wild animals like mice, deer, foxes, and horses. Celebrity singer Avril Lavigne told abc news, good morning America, in an interview about her fight against lyme disease. Dr Phil has also covered the topic of how do you get lyme disease and how does lyme disease spread.
Where is it located?
Lyme disease is normally found in infected blacklegged ticks, which reside in wooded and grassy areas. In the U.S., these ticks are found along the northeastern coast as well as Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Northern California. Although the disease can affect people of all ages, the children and the elderly are the most vulnerable as well those working outdoors such as firefighters and park rangers.
How will it kill you?
Lyme disease has different stages which at first show symptoms similar to other diseases and can be misdiagnosed as the flu. Symptoms include fever, chills, and sweats as well as a facial drooping and the development a large skin rash called Erythma migrans. As the disease progresses, the bacteria affects your nervous system and results in memory loss, poor coordination, and a decrease in concentration. It also leads to the development of arthritis in the knees, heart problems, and eventual death if left untreated.

What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease—or the Great Imitator—is caused by a bacteria called Borrelia burgodorferi, which causes signs of severe damage to your skin, joints, heart and nervous system by tick bites. It's transmitted by blacklegged ticks that have been infected, which usually feed on wild animals like mice, deer, foxes, and horses. Celebrity singer Avril Lavigne told abc news, good morning America, in an interview about her fight against lyme disease. Dr Phil has also covered the topic of how do you get lyme disease and how does lyme disease spread.
Where is it located?
Lyme disease is normally found in infected blacklegged ticks, which reside in wooded and grassy areas. In the U.S., these ticks are found along the northeastern coast as well as Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Northern California. Although the disease can affect people of all ages, the children and the elderly are the most vulnerable as well those working outdoors such as firefighters and park rangers.
How will it kill you?
Lyme disease has different stages which at first show symptoms similar to other diseases and can be misdiagnosed as the flu. Symptoms include fever, chills, and sweats as well as a facial drooping and the development a large skin rash called Erythma migrans. As the disease progresses, the bacteria affects your nervous system and results in memory loss, poor coordination, and a decrease in concentration. It also leads to the development of arthritis in the knees, heart problems, and eventual death if left untreated.

So, while I have been witness to several ID physicians (and others) malignantly spreading misinformation about Lyme-literate doctors, I wonder what they make of their own ivory tower guy suggesting I have this risky and unnecessary procedure? ... Many find the gross mishandling of Lyme Disease by members of the CDC, IDSA and NIH ; morally reprehensible....
